Vince:
Try to find Bruichladdich 2001 1st edition- 15 year old. Pronounced Brook Laddie. In Gaelic means raised beach. Should pay about $60.00 a bottle. A Islay.
In Japan this 1st edition is going for huge money. Over 400 pounds British Sterling.
I got my bottles for drinking and investment.
Friends- go get yours.

That is a fine malt. If you enjoy that, you should check out the malts by Laphroaig. Mmmmm all are extremely good!

I finally know how to pronounce the name of that thing. Brook Laddie. Thanks malone. Raised beach. We raise a lot of beaches in America. Then they all get married and continue to give women a bad name.

I swear I can smell those wings and things Vince cooked up.

Had a barbecue with friends this Sunday since sunshine returned (Hurricane Arlene dumped some rain on a good portion of the Caribbean, but little else). We tend to do it more Caribbean style, with a lot of fresh fruit (mangoes, guava) and side dishes that are popular in this end of the world. Instead of potato salad there is more of a rolled and baked potato fritter that is dipped in different kinds of chutney or barbecue sauce.

Nothing takes the place of New York steaks grilled on a good barbecue and First Cook’s assistant FuManChu, my golden retriever, has never argued with me about that. His job is to make sure all dropped food is placed in a convenient receptacle (you never have to tell him twice), to keep the Cook (me) advised of any potential sneak attacks by scavengers, seagulls or Fu’s favorite, pelicans. At seaside barbecues in the islands, a sentinel with keen eyesight who doesn’t charge by the hour, is invaluable.

While being the barbecuist, I think it’s almost as important to have a good smoke and something to keep you from getting too thirsty, while minding the barbecue (a downfall in having a sentinel that doesn’t charge by the hour is that his (Fu’s) sense of decorum is eventually overwhelmed by great smells and he has been known to try and collect early and often -- sometimes the cook overdoes the Scotch and the sentinel really amkes out like a bandit). However, My wife invariably busts him doing this, and marches him over to the Gazebo and gives him a talking to (I get those too, and can sympathize).

This weekend I’m trying some 19 year old Cadenhead Lochside which IMO is a delicious whiskey; delicate and sweet with a soft, peaty creaminess. I believe the original distillery in Speyside, Scotland is out of biz, so there is no more of this for sale, except for the occasional bottle that turns up.

I always try to match the stick to the drink and with a Scotch Whiskey like this one a Sancho Panza Belicosos (Torpedo) is just about right, when you already have a face full of smoke. These have wrappers that are like oily silk, with a rich, dark color. I can taste wood, a lot of spice, and it has that easy draw for lazy smokers like me for large mouthfuls of rich smoke.

Dessert is a large chocolate tort that my wife made, Port, for those who enjoy it, goes great with Chocolate Torts (Taylor’s Vintage Port 1994). For dessert, we burned Punch Punch Corona Gordas (they were rated 91 by CA in 2004) These are nicely rolled cigars and feel very soft between the fingers; have earthy flavors, and leather and develops into a power cigar. Great way to watch the sun go down when you are stuffed.

As a short addition to my previous post, it seems that I have a new tenant outside the backdoor to my office: a small brown duck who built a very comfortable looking nest, smack underneath a rocking chair that Fu and I like to plop ourselves on, mostly to admire the view of the bay and watch clouds stream by. I would not have noticed the new tenant (and apparently neither did my barbecue sentinel) but for the fact that there was a short twittering when we plopped, as the two of us watched the duck waddle out.

Of course, Fu and I were the last to know that this was a "momma duck", she was building a nest and laying eggs (my wife and both girls, were very emphatic about this) -- no plopping in the chair for now and no cigar smoke (ducks to my knowledge have no sense of smell), or hole digging (this being bad for ducklings that are sure to appear) -- I wasn't sure who the "digging" applied to, exactly, and thought about asking, but having been down this road before, said nothing.

So, Fu and I moved (without the chair) to the other side of the back of the house. With my luck, all the ducklings will probably be female, speak French and NOT smoke cigars.

Cian:
Your closing statement is exactally why early man invented strong drink. Centuries ago this happened.
I can see them talking to other and say " Lets dig a hole and hide this booze - the women are coming" Their sons while playing 12 years latter- dug up a barrell, and as kids will do " They said- we found pops booze- lets try it."

I have my Don Carlos #3 calling my name & I need to get some pants on, of all days , I am Working today , Fathers day no less, how did this happen, it must have been a moment of weakness , a friend is manager of a startup venture & they need a few bodys in the next few weeks to get the ball rolling, well he asked if I could come in on the 19th & lend a hand with the cooking for the day, well sure I said you al;l know I love to cook, well I didnt look at the calender till I got home & found out the 19th was fathers day Dammm, , oh well, I will be fixing chicken for the masses of shoppers who will be running in the store to pick up last minute items for fathers day , I should be at the cigar shop fixing up fathers with Cigars ,(NOTE TO SELF) , next time check the callender before saying yes or No !

Hey vince! I just started working in a kitchen! Just thought you'd like to know that there is a fellow cook in here

im cooking too :D
but nothing good, just easy food for the week here. I am making 4lbs of taco meat. Got to have those soft tacos all week. nothing easier than heating tacos in the microwave after work.

Oops!!! Looks like Vince is "chickening out" today. :eek:mg: :sm_angel: Yeah, too bad you didn't look at the calendar. You should be getting fed with your feet up, instead you'll be feeding the world and tieing up chicken feet all day. :cryinlaugh:

It's a tough job, but somebody's gotta do it. The ex-Navy cook just can't help himself. Well, at least no one that eats from Chef Vince's kitchen is going to be complaining about their Father's Day meal, just look at it that way. Your labors will be rewarded.

As for me, I'm wishing that all the dad's have a good day, of course, including mine. I may give him a call. I'm not much for knee-jerk holidays. I love my father all year round, and just spoke to him recently. I hate getting to work and having people give me dirty looks when they ask me if I called my mother or father on these days, and I say no. I guess that means if I didn't call my mother on the national holiday instituted by The American Sugar Coated Guilt Institute it means I don't care, right? Enough of that crap. But for those of you who are "observing" or "celebrating" this Hallmark moment, good for you and have a great day.

As for me, not being a father, although some might say I'm a real mother :cryinlaugh: , I'll be out in the yard doing some manual labor if it doesn't rain, or some computer work for my sister's law practice if it does.

I had a 7x38 Flor de A. Allones Seleccion Privada during the wee hours of the morning, so I guess that counts as a Sunday Morning cigar. The flavor was wonderful. Got a couple of these from one of my many internet cigar friends a long time ago, and this was the last one. It was wonderful, and thank you to whomever sent it. They sure do stand up to a long time in the box.

Have a wonderful day, all youse foddas, and all the ladies across the land, too. Vince, don't work too hard, see you when you get back to the boards.

closing in On 6:30 Pm, just got home, did nt need to cook supper today, I ate chicken & asian pears all day, not cooked together , the chicken was breaded breasts , covered with basil & tomatoe sauce , sprinkles of shreeded mortzellia cheese , not bad, but not as good if I would have made it from scratch , the microwave oven is killing everyones taste buds , fast & easy is what people want , no more spending hours making a traditional Sunday Supper, Dammmm I sure do miss the good old days !!!cook all day saturday & them on Sunday it was a piece of cake , just warm it up & EAT, I did get in 2 cigars today the Don Carlos #3 is a must in the morning , & I got a short break just after 2 & time for a monte #2 Especial, a small corona that went well with the coffee , sitting outside the store , nice brease & some GREAT looking Babes comming & going in & out of the store , lots of jigglies & swish & sways , I love summer & the No Bra halter tops , eslecilly when they just walk down the isle with the frozen foods & the Cigar butts pop out hahahahaha ! , dammm lady you could poke out some ones eye with that ! hahahaha !!! yes it was a Good day .
I have it on good athority the Summer solistes concert by Edgar & johhny Winter will be on the radio ( NPR) tonight at 9 PM, I plan to have my coffee & a Masterpiece & be in the car about 8:55 & get ready for the great music I will be listening to for the next 2 hours, I try not to miss any of his shows , I did record one a few years ago off the radio but the quality isnt all that good , one day I will break down & BUY one to enjoy it over & over again.
Right now I think I hear a Bauza torp. calling me from the Humi , dont worry little fella I will be there in a few minutes , the coffee is ready & I will pour a snifter of my new bottle of Glenlivette 15 YO, oak finish .
checked the scale still holding at just a hair over 255, down from 417 in 14 months , Barb is doing OK, getting a little nausia when she eats , so she is cutting down the portion size & eating one more time a day to get all the protene in she has dropped 26 pounds in 3 weeks , soon even the floor of the bathroom will notice there isnt as much weight in the shower ! hahahaha
Enjoy, Vince
