Oh yes, Cian, I am located about 15-20 miles north and across the river from West Point in Southeastern Dutchess County, not all that far from the Connecticut border. 20-30 minutes of driving would bring me to Connecticut. The Hudson Valley has long been known as one of the Top Ten train watching spots in the world because of its vast wide open spaces and incredibly beautiful scenery. You name it, when it comes to outdoor life, it's all up and down the Hudson Valley. I look affectionately at West Point every time I ride Metro-North's Hudson Division to and from the city. I could go on and on about the Hudson Valley. Every state and every place in the world has its areas of wondrous natural beauty, and The Hudson Valley is still The Jewel of New York State.

Well Good morning to you Mister Jaun Epstine , I hope you had an Enjoyable Passover , That Prodomo must have been a good one, it has you loose as a goose or did the corn squizings do that?? maybe a little of both?? , well the weather has finally broken into a nice spring, I was able to sit on the back deck & fire up a nice Qban Monte #2 torp yesterday afternoon, Finished the day at the cigar shop with a Partagas serie D #4 again a Qban , I have my Don Carlos ready to fire up as soon as I get off the computer , this morning, time for Car talk on the radio so I got to go ! How ya doin' Big Feller? That Perdomo Reserve "X" lasted from 2210 hours until 0050 hours this morning, and knocked the crap out of me for the last hour and a half of the smoke. Two hours and forty minutes!! That's a football game sized cigar. It was fun and delicious.

Spring hasn't exactly sprung here yet, still cool and breezy and Ah heerd tell we be due fer a Nor'Easter sum tahm soon. :eek:mg: :flush:

Oh well, that just makes bourbon/rye season last longer. :sm_angel:

YOUR FATHER WAS SIX FOOT TEN? :eek:mg: :eek:mg: :eek:mg: :eek:mg:

That was HUGE back in 1847!!!

Sleep well and hope your day goes well tomorrow. You should have bet the Kentucky Derby. I hear a 50 to 1 shot won. If I had put just $1,000 on that baby, all my life's troubles would have been over. Oh well, The Good Book says don't gamble, so I don't. :dunno:

I had a nice Hamilton's House Churchill this evening. Two years after their purchase, they're still an easy drawing, great tasting smoke. What did I pay for that box, thirtysomethingwithshipping?

Yes, it is Mother’s Day, but yesterday I played golf in brilliant sunshine, 82%, with a slight breeze (when you live smack on the equator temperature does not usually vary more than 5 degrees year round; from around 78-83% in the winter to 80-85% in the Summer). Smoked a couple of Sancho Panzo, Escudero Honduran Double Maduros during play. I think these are very good golf course cigars, as they continue to burn even when you don’t smoke them for a little while.

I had the monthly poker party at my house in the evening, after dinner. We play in my office and FuManChu (golden retriever) keeps track of how much I’m losing. A friend of mine from Nassau (cigar/broker) was in town and he brought his wares for sampling. Hooo haaaa. We went through quite a few sticks but in the end, we all agreed that the smoke of the evening was a Partagas Serie D #3 LE. It started off with a very distinct taste of sweet tobacco (that very Partagas flavor), cedar, slightly creamy dark chocolate, and a hint of fresh leafiness. Throughout this cigar, the flavors merged closer and accented each other; none dominated, all complimented.

As strong tobacco flavor receded, chocolate and cedar were very evident. By the 1/3 point, my mouth felt like it had been spritzed and coated with creamy dark chocolate. IMO dark chocolate flavors tend to be sharp, but this was a mellowed and creamy taste, with lots of cedar notes. My wife, looking in from time to time (probably to make sure that we hadn’t set fire to the back of the house) commented that she was sure there was a herd of contented dairy cows in the back, from all the “mooing” going on.

IMO Fine cigars call for Scotch. I broke open a bottle of 18-year-old Glenmorangie Single Malt Scotch Reserve, that my father in-law gave me for my last anniversary. This scotch is made from premium Highland barley that is malted and dried over peat fires (tastes like smoke) and is distilled partly from the distillery's private water source, at Tarlogie Springs. It is actually distilled twice in copper pot stills; finally aged in oak casks. If you like Single Malt, IMO this is a treat.

* * *

Vince, I would be the first to acknowledge that I’m PW’d. My wife was raised in Europe by old tradition French parents; she loves to cook, (excels with Caribbean dishes which have lots of seafood, i.e., shrimp, game fish, lobster, etc.,) shop, travel and has a flaming temper. She curses beautifully in English, French and Italian.

We are all her possessions (kids, house, dog, boat, etc.,). I was 43 when I married; she was 25. 10 years (December 31, this year) and 2 kids later, she can still wear her honeymoon bikini. I, like you, am blessed with a great spouse and on this Sunday post, after reading yours, I wanted to respond. I wouldn’t have it any other way.

MOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!! I'm great at cow.

Sounds like a great time was had by all. It also sounds like your dog is ready to form an accounting partnership with the Aflac duck. Judging from the duck's latest commercial, I think they have similar skills and could probably corner a decent percentage of market share. I'm sure certain major corporations could use a little help with creative accounting these days. :D

Glenmorangie is one of my favorite single malts, I love the smokey peaty ones, Laphroaig is the smokiest of them all, I like the 10 Y.O. havent had a taste of the 40 Y.O. YET ! ( havent found any one to buy a bottle to let me have a taste hahahaha ! )
SO she still fits in the Bikini , Pictures we want pictures ! hahahaha ! just ask Bloof, ( he is shy but as you noticed I am not )
The Partagas Series D is one of the best lines to come out of Cuba that I have smoked in a long time, I have never had a bad one , good smoke , great draw & a wonderful taste , with a great scotch & a fine strong coffee nothing could be better !
BUT 80 Degrees all winter & all summer, what do you do for Irritation? we have the wind, the cold, the snow & ice to deal with from the Middle of October till the end of April to deal with every year, we look Fwd. to spring, & putting the heavy winter coats away, we sit outside the cigar shop & look for the first stiff nipple of the spring, ( last thursday at 5:35 PM was the first sighting this year ) there is a Bride shop just up the street so we get a lot of Prom shoppers & wedding gowns , bridemaid dresses to get looked at by a whole bunch of different sized ladys & some hookers at times going for that Formal look !( one of my favorites hahahaha )
went to a Night at the races last night ( yea I did post that all ready) got up early today & went to the mother in laws for Mothers day, Woppie, , thats all I can say about the day, but I have had more fun watching paint dry & grass grow. , well we just got home about an hour ago & I did have a few fine smokes sitting outside today, drank a lot of coffee & some good Irish whisky, ate a little bit of chicken & a piece of Peach pie, Yummmmmmmy , now I need to reload the pocket humidor, refill the travel mug with strong coffee & hit the road for our Sunday night Cigar ride ! Enjoy, Vince

Hey, everybody, Vince said he's making chicken and peach pie, with Irish whiskey, coffee and cigars for dessert. We'll be right over.

The Chicken was supurb, , moist & tender, falling off the bone , the breading did seam a tad salty, dont know why , I guess I must have added the salt twice, that will teach me not to imbibe to much Irish whisky when I am cooking! the Peach pie was to DIE FOR , flakey crust & a great home grown peach taste, I dont know where the peaches were grown but they were most execelente ' a mix of Yellow & white peaches from some place in the southern hemisphere I guess, a nice blush on the skins, I saved all the peals & stones from the peaches, boiled them with a little sugar & white wine & water , , cooked it down to a thick syrup, added some beaten egg whites & then froze the entire mess, OHHHHH was it goood , sweet with a nice peach flavor & just an undertone of the wine , next time I will put it in an ice cream maker to keep the ice chrystals to a mimium , & I think I will use a low quality Champagne next time instead of a good bottle of May wine , hey why not ! All in All it was a good Mothers day for me , but I am disapointed in my daughter, no card for her mother or a call, she is on my $hit list & will hear about it for sure ! she better have a great excuse for this one ! OH I FORGOT ! BS will not due, I know her boys got her a card & flowers, ( I paid for it ) I will keep you posted on the action ! , time for me to hit the shower ! Enjoy, Vince

Vince,

You must put something on the posts in the Sunday smokes. Whenever I start reading, I get a craving for a cigar, if I don’t already have one burning; now it’s a chicken sandwich. I’ve got a Partagas Serie P No. 2 going here. This is their latest Cuban offering and should be a big hit. Very nice smoke like anything else Partagas does, if you like their sticks. Good smoke, flavor stays through and through ‘til the end; strong and sweet and burns great.

I think, because my wife is European has a lot to do with her staying slim (other than her doing Pilates, Yoga and swimming 3 or 4 times a week). She was not raised with all the junk and fast food, etc. that is everywhere in the U.S. Consequently, although like every woman I’ve ever known (and a lot of guys, myself included) she loves chocolate and drinks wine, but doesn’t really care about McD’s and Dominoes, etc.

It helps that she is 5' 11" and was a competitive swimmer for Team-France.

As far as irritation goes, I think you have forgotten about hurricanes. Those are some kindn of wicked storms. We haven’t had one in the Virgin Islands since ‘89 and I hope we don’t again. All the storms that hit Florida last year, were just tropical depressions here; still rains a lot when that happens the wind blows, etc.

We generally spend December in Chicago, IL for the holidays (I do a fair amount of business there) and I own a house locally. My kids love the snow and downtown Chicago and the Northshore is gorgeous at that time of year. We all get “good and cold” so are ready to go back to USVI. Don’t you think that’s irritation enough?

Bloofington may be right about FuManChu. But if I see Fu hanging out with any ducks I’m going to take his calculator away and hide his supper dish.

5'11" Dammmm I am excited , I love tall ladys !!! Your a lucky Man !
food cravings can be a sign that you are reading to much into the posting or I am just a great story teller, you pick which one it is ! hahaha !
Dammmmm Chi town in December, are you CRAZY? hahahaha
but I guess if you need to conduct business you do what you need to do, as far as snow, well if I never have to shovel it again in my life I will be happy !
Partagas , one of my favorites , I have a 3 pack of the series D #4 from Cuba in my humidor right now , saving one for Friday night at the cigar shop .
I do know about the Hurricanes even here in Pittsburgh it gets a real mess when the last little bit hits here, , we got slammed a few times last year, nothing like Fla. but we did have a lot of damage & some flooding of the streams & some of the low areas arround town, I am about 20 miles NW of the Point ( where the Mon & the Al come together to make the O) , we had local flooding that lasted a few weeks , some of the damage still hasent been fixed in some areas.
it is a wonderful day here in the Burgh , the sun was out, the sky was blue & I cut the grass , showered & was at the cigar shop by 1PM , had a great 5 year old Fuente Cannone , Maduro & a Kenya AA coffee, it hit 82 today just a wonderful day, even with out the single malt ! I am saving myself for Friday ! hahaha, yea like I need to be saved ! Time for me to get ready for the morning, lots to do Thursady, & staying out of my wifes way is the most important thing I can do , so I will be up & out of here right after breakfast, hope I get all the things on the to do list done before I get out of her way, she will be baking , so I stay away, any time she is in MY kitchen I get out ! hahaha
Enjoy, Vince

Cian, Vince's posts always make me hungry, as if the food was in front of me. He's kidding himself if he thinks his posts are benign. They drive me crazy. I feel like I'm standing outside a fine restaurant on a cold day with no money.

Vince, could it be that those peaches were the now famous Asian "donut" peaches that have recently become popular in this country? If they were white and orange, or whatever the other color you said was, mostly flat with a donut-like depression going almost, but not all the way through, then that's what they were. My ex-girl with the pug introduced me to them. She had some good qualities, taught me a lot about home improvements, introduced me to donut peaches, could cook up a storm like someone else we know :dunno: :sm_angel: and I fell in love with pugs.

Three out of four ain't bad. :cryinlaugh: :cryinlaugh: :cryinlaugh:

No the peaches were your average round peach, some did have white flesh & some the yellow?pink ? what ever color peaches are , I have eaten the dounut peach a few times , I found the flesh to be a bit dry & mealy , it could have been from improper storage or a long time in transit, but for the amount of usable flesh on them I would need a lot of peaches to bake a pie , I love the peaches from Georga about August, BIG , JUICY & full of flavor , the remind me of Breastesses !hahahahaha
I had a great day at B&B yeasterday, 7 cigars & 2 were Qban, a good part of a bottle of Single malt & lots of coffee , went to bed with a buzz from the nicotene & booze, woke up at 9:15 AM to the phone ringing, got a job offer, I dont know if I will take it or not, I am meeting him this afternoon to talk $$$$$$$ , right now I dont want a full time job, 2 or 3 days a week & no more than 6 hours a day, lets face it , I do have an immage to uphold ! hahahaha !
Enjoy, Vince

It was a busy week here in Freedom Pa, , both my wife & I went to the doctors , took my mother in law to her doctor, ( well I dropped off my wife to take her while I want to the cigar shop ) , & on Friday the 13th , I celebrated the anniversary of my birth many years ago, hahahaha, a total of 7 cigars for the day 2 QBANs , this weekend is the nationality days in Ambridge, they close off the main street, & all the different churches & orginazations celebrate the nationalits, with all kinds of Home made food , wine & music, hey just my kind of place, any thing you can think of from the Armeanian Coffee to the Cakes from Zanzabar , with all the great food from the old world, & some from the new world, American Indians didnt have a food booth but did have stuff to sell, , I had a few grape leaves at the Greek booth but my wife had a little of everything , spent a ton of cash, & smoked some fine cigars there, started the stroll down the main street with a Masterpiece , Listened to the Pittsburgh Banjo Club play for a little wile ( of with I am a Member ) lets just say I own a banjo, , it is a 4 string Tenor banjo, a strummer I am not, only 4 strings & I have 4 fingers but I just havent found out where to put the fingers !!
I have some chicken in a plastic bag along with some vidalia onion, crushed garlic ,whole grain Mustard,a few drops of Truffel oil & a dash or three of Balsamic vinegar some extra virgin olive oil, a little salt & fresh ground black pepper & a dice of red bell pepper & a shot of tabasco , all sitting together getting happy, they will hit the grill some time this afternoon, about 4 pm , by then I sould be ready to cook !!!
My wonderful wife was very good to me on Friday, a bunch of Cigars a total of 48 , & she did a great job picking them out all by her self !!SHE knows what I like , but they dont sell that in a store hahahaha !well not here in da Burgh anyhow ( that I have found anyway ) & a bottle of Glenmorangie Medera wood finish & a bottle of Jameson Irish whisky , she is way to good for me !!!!!
The sun has been shining but the temps are still a little cool , it did hit 80 one day, to be honest i like it on the cool side , light winds & blue skys low humidity, , I can sit out on the back deck or in the Qtr.Deck & smoke anytime I want, & right now , I want to go have a cigar, I didnt get my morning Don Carlos in yet & it is past 1:30, I had to go to church this morning & take photos of the Conformation class The minister realy knows how to get me to the church, get me to do a job for him & the church, otherwise I would have gone to my favorite place for Sunday morning, Saint Matress & listen to the words of Father Pillow & the songs of my snoring !!, but he stopped her last week & asked me to do this, & sent me an email to make sure I would be there , so I didnt get my morning mug of coffee or my DC#3, so as soon as I get off the computer I will get the coffee & the cigar ! maybe a weeeeee dram to boot ! Enjoy, Vince

Good afternoon Vince, and all the folks. You really have been smoking quite a few cigars lately, so I'm sure it didn't hurt to miss the morning DC #3. :sm_angel:

And you're still driving me crazy with all those food descriptions.

I like it cool too, but that's too much to hope for. Although it's been a cool spring so far, you can feel it moving in, and any day now . . .

BAM!!! Kickin' it up to notches previously unknown.

I got a surprise call from the firm that put my assignment on temporary hold recently after eight and a half years of being there just about every week. They suddenly got tremendously busy again. Who knows how long it will last, but I was glad for the call. Ya gotta make hay while the sun shines.

While I was at work, I did take a couple minutes to celebrate by going to Phatash's web site and getting 10 Hemingway Classics for $52.95 and a box of Mayorga Maduro Churchills for $49.95 plus shipping. They're running some nice specials. The price on the Hemingway Classics is even better than they were giving last fall, and I haven't had a Mayorga Maduro in a while. I still won't because I'll need to age them for at least a year before I have the courage to smoke one.

:cryinlaugh: :cryinlaugh: :cryinlaugh:

I'm here at home working on a document for my sister's practice and having some Pappy Van Winkle's 15 year old Family Reserve bourbon, but no cigar. I'll be in bed soon, and it's up and out to work later. It's great to have a job and be an American. :cop: :birthday:

Ahhhhh the chicken was heavenly, that truffel oil did the trick, I picked some fresh chives to garnish the plate, they have buds on them but not ready to open yet, Tasty little morsels !, I also made a little bit of Caulifower with butter & vadillia onion , it was soooo sweeeeet I topped it off with a little Sunday special Kona coffee, made in the Freedom Press pot, not good to the last drop, Better to the last drop !! & we finished the Greman chocolate birthday cake, & now I am uncomfortable , I ate to much, should have passed on the cake till later, but Barb wanted to wash the plate & cake saver, so I went ahead & ate it, , Dammm I am paying for it now, wish I could barf or some thing to make room, I gotta learn , DONT OVER EAT ! how stupid can I get????? ahh that is a retorical question , no need to answer, I all ready know How stupid I can be ! Thank you, But I did hear all the light bulbs clicking on & all the come backs to fallow so save it I all ready know it ! hahahaha !
I picked up a FIREFIGHTERS parking Only sign, for my Nephew , he made the Honor roll twice so far this year, for him anything higher than a C is reason to celebrate, the first time he made it I got him a years subscription to PLAYBOY ( he is 16) & his mother said it was OK, & his dad loved the idea, then he could read it also ( look at the photos) like we all do hahahha
I want a cup of coffee & a cigar right now but I am so full I dont think I could enjoy the coffee so I will take a break & try to burp a few times before I make the Kona . Time to Down load Lunch hahaha ! Enjoy, Vince

Another Sunday smoke. It’s been stormy here with some and a lot of overcast. There’s one Holland America cruise liner tied up at Havensight (very large ships and typically carry upwards of 2,000 passengers), but when the sun goes out of the Caribbean, blue water turns Atlantic gray. The temperature stays about 72%, but this lone ship is still buttoned up, as the latest squall just ended.

Happy Birthday Vince. I’ll burn a Partagas Lusitanias (Cuban) in honor of that day. Usually, I’m a Cohiba Siglo guy (can’t beat them for spice and just overall flavor, IMO) but this is a seeegar (as jedi mastersVince and Bloofington might say). It is a double corona 7 5/8 x 49 and takes about 2 hours to smoke. This is one of the greatest sticks I’ve burned in 10 years I’ve been puffing. Bloof: I think you have to age this one until your social security checks start, for safety sake.

My inlaws arrived for a visit Friday afternoon and my father in-law (whom I’ve mentioned before and has been smoking cigars for over 40 years) brought in quite a sampler pack of great Cubans. Of course, without labels I have to take his word on some, but I’ve smoked enough to know quite a few by taste and texture.

After doing the usual greetings with his grandchildren,my wife and probably half the neighbors, FuManChu and several pelicans who like to roost in the backyard or in the pool, (the French make it sound like a chowder and marching society and are really noisy when they greet each other) he grabbed me and off we went to my office. He set this carton that he brought from Paris on my desk, proceeded to check my humidors and cigar cabinet (it’s like being a 12 year old kid in my bedroom, again), and only then did he begin laying out the sticks. I think this is the most enjoyable time: before we light up and haven’t quite decided what we are going to smoke. Anticipation of the event is almost as good as doing it. My wife refers to this as “grown men playing cigars”; per usual she and her mother are standing in the doorway of my office shaking their heads and looking at all the sticks spread out over my desk. My father in-law then separates the smokes by groupings and selects 2 to smoke; the Lusitanias. We light up.

This has to be the greatest double corona I’ve ever smoked. I’ve had double coronas Opus X by Fuente and Cohiba and they are fine smokes. My father in-law calls the Lusitanias “majestic”. It is slightly veined and oily. It has flavors of nuts, pepper and wet earth. It also has an aroma of leather, cedar, pepper and cocoa. It truly gets better and different as you smoke it down. The last third was very powerful, with notes of chocolate, wood, leather and exotic spices. It has a perfect draw: billows in your face with almost no effort.

At the end of 2 hours my wife came back to tell us it was time for dinner. I know I was just plastered to my chair. These sticks are not for beginners and will just level you through sheer tobacco power. Since we were going out to a local restaurant for dinner (my father in-law loves the jerked pork and chicken with mango dishes they serve in the islands), my wife asked if we could join the rest of the family or should she just wheel us out and dump us in the car. “We both answered simultaneously: “yes, dear.” And then everyone laughed. I had to help him up. But we made it. I think I’ll wait until later this evening before lighting up anything else.

cian.

Just stepped out the door a short while ago to retrieve a box on my front doorstep that was probably delivered yesterday morning. I didn't get up until well after noon and never bothered to look. Just as the pre-delivery e-mail said, delivered on 5/21, right on time, and as Freddie Prinze would have said, my box of Mayorga Maduro Churchills and another ten-pack of Hemingway Classics are . . .

looooooooookeeeeeeng goooooooood!

Now of course, I have other Hemingway Classics to smoke while these calm down a bit, and the Mayorga Maduro Churchills, well, I won't be smoking for today's track meet, but whatever meet is on next year at about this time, I'll be able to light one up then. If anyone is looking for a strong cigar with bold flavor and low priced, Mayorga Maduro is one such cigar. Happy May 22nd America. We can celebrate what's still good about this country, and pray for our boys and girls overseas.

Have a great day everyone, and especially Big Vince in Freedom, PA. Or is that Big Slim?
