Sunday Morning Smoke

Fathers Day on the Screened in Porch. The weather was perfect, mid 70's low 80's. I put a boneless leg of lamb on the spit. That is after it was absorbing the Greek Rub (Oregano, Dill, Sea Salt, Black pepper, Olive Oil) that I applied that morning. We ate about 1800, Lamb, twice baked pototoes, corn on the cob, fresh Boli bread, bottle of Sonoma Cty Pinot Noir 2002. After dinner it was one of my new favorites, AVO #3 Maduro and a couple of snob glasses of AW Hersh 16 yr old Bourbon.

Wow!!! :eek:mg:

Now BigTom's doing it to me. Between you and Vince, I don't know who's place to go to first. Heyyyyyyy, we gotta get you two together to do some kind of Food Network tailgating thingy.

:dunno: :sm_angel:

Food, cigars & scotch, count me in !

Vince, next time I’m on the mainland I will definitely give your shop a call. I’d love to chat with you for a few minutes.

Bloofington: Your piece on Duchess County was great. Adrienne (my wife) emailed it to her brother in France. You are now a cigar writer on at least 2 continents.

Malone: Amen to that. As a senior member for the PW crowd the following says it for me:

----

An Irishman who had a little too much to drink is driving home from the city one night and, of course, his car is weaving violently all over the road. A cop pulls him over. "So," says the Irish cop to the driver, "where have ya been?" "Why, I've been to the pub of course," slurs the drunk.

"Well," says the cop, "it looks like you've had quite a few to drink this evening." "I did all right," the drunk says with a smile. "Did you know," says the cop, standing straight and folding his arms across his chest, "that a few intersections back, your wife fell out of your car?"

"Oh, thank heavens," sighed the drunk. "For a minute there, I thought I'd gone deaf."

----

I played golf on Saturday (I don’t take FuManChu to the golf course..not that he behaves badly, but he gets so involved in the game that he will fetch your ball back (no matter which ball) and that is against the rules and offends just about everyone. I smoked a Sancho Panza Extra Fuerte and a Padron 3000 through the rounds. I think these are two of the best golf course cigars, if you like full bodied, spicy cigars with lots of earth flavor. They burn beautifully even when you put them down to hit out or to concentrate on your putting game (or as my friends put it...”when did YOU get a putting game!”)

Sunday was Father’s Day. I did ok: couple of pairs of socks, some new t-shirts from my children. Fu gave me a book on poker (how to count cards and stop losing money). Now, in the first place I didn’t even know Fu had a wallet, let alone a place to carry said wallet. My kids and wife thought this was hysterically funny. Fu said nothing, but pulled his visor down further so I probably couldn’t see him snicker.

We joined some friends at Frenchman’s reef (Malone knows all about this area) for dinner and dancing. My wife danced my *** off. In between huffing and puffing to the jitterbug, East Coast Swing and the Tango (I am so bad at the Tango that my wife compares me to a gooney-bird trying to evade a shark attack.), she usually takes pity on me (once she stops laughing) and I get to slide up to the bar for some good scotch and a cigar.

I got out a Juan Lopez Seleccion No. 2, a robusto, that goes very well with a smoother Scotch. It is woody, with coffee and spice notes and has a slightly sweet maple flavor. For a Cuban this is an affordable smoke and fairly easy to get. I actually smoked about 3/4 of it and was talking with a couple of tourists, when my wife swooped down on me and drug me off to the dance floor. Even gooney birds can have fun.

Was that Frenchmans Reef on St Thomas ? There use to be a great Bar at the Marina where the Tacky Cruse Boats pull in.

Big Tom,

Yes, it is St. Thomas. There are lots of bars there and the cruise ships pull into Havensight now, since anywhere up to 4 to 5,000 of them will flood the harbor. Frenchman's Reef has many good restaurants and bars, but most are new (within last 5-10 years or so).

BigTom's a travelin' man, not much he doesn't know about the world. Thanks for your compliments on the Dutchess County story. Speaking of good storytellers, I always love yours. Too bad Fu can't stay still on the golf course, though. I can certainly understand why. All those balls flying all over the place can be mighty tempting. It's like putting a mouse in front of a cat and telling the cat to "stay."

That's funny cuz I'm going to be on a tacky cruise boat docking at St. Thomas

Looks like we have quite a fallowing here Bloof, I am glad that people read & post to this weekly rant & rave , it all started one Sunday morning when I was having a cup of Coffee & a cigar, geee I wonder when that will happen again hahahaha, the coffee is made & I am sitting here in my shorts waiting for my( as soon as I get off the computer ) morning Don Carlos #3, I am at the cigar shop today 11 to 2:30, I need a break ! the long hours are killing me hahahahahaha , the coffee shop across the street has a lady who is going to an other job & this will be her last week there , so we have a little going away party in the works, she said she will try a cigar then. Ahhh yes an other convert to the smoke !!!, I have a Cojamar sugar tip peach , her favorite fruit , I think she will stop the Vicroys & switch to a hand rolled premium cigar in less than a year , it will be nice to have some one who smells great to smoke with instead of the old waterbuffalows the shop has now hahahaha ( me included )
there was a car cruise in Beaver Falls , sponcered by the Beaver County ANTI tobacco assocation, hahahaha, I stood out front of there office on a public side walk, with a Hemmingway Masterpiece & a cup of coffee , I was asked a few times to move , but I stood my ground, when I was told to leave by some suit, I called a police officer friend , who is a cigar smoker , he told the suit, I had the God Given RIGHT as an American to stage any kind of a protest I want as long as I dont block the door Or stop people from going in & out of the office , I didnt have a protest sign , just the Masterpiece , I did have on My Viet Nam Veterans Association Vest ~ Great for Cigar smokers it has 3 pockets !, one for the cigars , one for the Lighters & one for the cutters & roach clip & yes I do roach the reaallllly good ones, I want it allll !!!!
well after 2.5 hours I was finished with the Masterpiece , needed more coffee & to get rid of the old coffee hahahaha ( you never buy coffee you just rent it ) , so I walked down the street to the coffee shop sat down a bit to BS to some of the patrons had a little slice of cheese cake & got a big cup to go, & went back to the spot I started with a CasaBlanka Jerobeam , 10 X 66 hunk of tasteless cardboard, so mild I didnt even know I was smoking , but it was a BIG, & that was my point, , lots of smoke & a few fellow smokers joined me, some pipes & cigeretts , but smokers none the less, we had a blue gray haze in front of the office of Anti Tabacco Association , some one had the idea to cover the last few letters of association & just leave the first 3 letters in place , but I knew I would get the blame for it so I asked them not to do anything to get me in trouble with the law , since I was the one who called the police in the first place , they did agree, but said they would cover it over night , as long as I am not here its OK with me !! , so I didnt get a call from any one so I dont know if they covered it or not , but it was a good idea ! well this isnt getting a bit of smoke into my taste buds so I am getting my smaller streamlined behind in gear & getting a cigar in my hand asap !!! Enjoy, Vince

:cryinlaugh: :cryinlaugh: :cryinlaugh:

Gotta love it. A police officer backing him up, too. In NYC the cop would have told you on the side that he really sympathized with you, but would have been forced to give you a $200 ticket. That is, after a squad of his fellow officers held back the crowd of 3,547 liberals screaming epithets at you. By the way, in that crowd of screaming liberals, there would have been 583 cigarette smokers.

:dunno: :dunno: :dunno:

Gotta love Vince, our resident water buffalo. Heyyyyyy, I thought you were down to elk status at this point?

Great story vince!! It sounds exactly like something I'd do as well!

Bloofington, you really know how to hurt a guys feeling. Here I am a card (ACLU) carring liberal. You know I would have been right beside my buddy Vince If I could have. I am crushed. How narrow minded of you! I am almost in tears, you know how sensative we are.

Hey Tom, between the 2 of us we would have had almost a Qtr. ton of cigar smokers hey maybe over that Qtr.ton( I am at 255 & still loosing ) & I am pretty sure your still over 250 your self unless you had a bad case of Montzumas revenge hahahahaha , but not a word of the incodent in the paper, I was hoping to get some Positive spin about cigars , but the Beaver County Times didnt even read the report the police officer made, he is a fellow vet , a Marine who is also a VN Vet & member of the Beaver County Viet Nam Vets like I am , so its good that Marine backed up a Sailor in the face of a souless brooks brothers suit . Semper Fi ~ Smokem if you got em ! & if you dont , I will share my last double corona, who has a K-Bar to cut this bad boy !????? hahahah Enjoy, Vince

We could have literaly "Blocked" the sidewalk. It is a shame it didn't get any press coverage. You guys will have to do without me this weekend. I have a ship to ride. We are getting underway Friday and they still don't know when or where I will be getting off.

I usually get off about 4 or 5 minutes after I get in hahahahaha

OFF to sleep hahahaha

Hey kids what time is it ??? why it is Sunday morning & time for the Sunday Smoke !! I am sitting here at the computer looking out at the yard & see a Groundhog poking his/her head from under the tool shed , cute little bugger, I wish there were more of them, they just eat grass, then I wouldnt need to cut it again hahahaha, I thought about getting a goat , but you need to take care of them, & a Groundhog is self sufficant , no need to do any thing with them, maybe it would be cheeper just to cover the entire yard with astro turf !
I had a wonderfull breakfast of tofu & eggs this morning remind me to add a lot of Tabasco next time , the weight has hit a standstill, just over 255 , looks like I need to increase my out put,
( code word for Exersize) , but I dont see that happening any time soon, it is going up to 94 today, I will be in the Qtr.deck all day , if not here in the house , enjoying the A/C I have my Don Carlos #3 waiting for me & as soon as the coffee is done I am headed out to the Qtr.deck to set fire to it !
Barb is not doing as well as I did , she is getting a little nausia every time she eats now , & hasnt lost as much as she wanted in the first month, I told her just relax the weight will come off. , it is hard to believe but this August we will be married 35 years , & havent killed each other as yet!!!, my Tux was a 43 Tall her dress was a 10/12 , now we have both had gastric by pass , what is that saying about us? are we fat & lazy , yep you bet ! am I a WONDERFULL CHEF, Yep you bet, combine the 2 & you get 2 over weight Fatt Asses , but soon we will be the next Arnold & Maria hahahahahahahahaqha !!! , yea I can see me in a suit talking with an accent that isnt a Pittsburgh accent & Barb having her cheek bones sticking out hahahaha
we did go for out standard Saturday night Cigar ride I found an Opus X in my humidor, I dont know how my brother missed this one ( he is always raiding my stash ) so I did have a nice smoke last night along with a big mug of decalf, we got in about 11 pm , with the price of gas going up I dont know if we can keep taking the cigar drives & listening to the radio in the car much longer even at 20 miles per gallon a 3 hour ride takes up about 5 gallons of gas , maybe we will just cut back to a 2 hour ride & save a little gas .
No great Sunday meal planned for today, grilled cheese sandwich for lunch & Veggie tofu stir fry for supper , I did have a great plate of Shusi for supper last night , the tuna was fantastic, just let the heat of the mouth cook it , Yummmmmmy , the smoked eel was good but needed a little more zip to it or somthing , not as good as the last time I had it , Barb hates raw fish, I tell her its all in her mind , tuna ,salmon, shrimp, all just fine with a little rice & wassibi .
My daughter had a dance compitition in Ohio Saturday morning, she & the boys drove out Friday night , stayed over night & got up early the next morning to compete , the groupe the yonger one was in did finish #1 but the song the older one played on the piano & my daughter & son danced to didnt place , . Oh well they will be back next year I hope .
Ahhh yes the coffee is done & have MUST get a big mug & head out to the Qtr.Deck with my buddy Don Carlos , Enjoy your Sunday
Vince

I guess my Sunday Morning Cigar was that Hemingway Classic I finished around 0100 before heading off to bed. It was perhaps the best tasting Hemingway I've ever smoked. Whatever they did to get these cigars back to pre-2000 taste levels, I hope they keep on doing it?

As for ground hogs, I haven't seen the two that used to occupy my backyard for a long time, and not at all this year. They might be dead for various reasons. One of the most common animals for road kill around here is ground hogs. Poor things.

"More people, more scars upon the land."

Enough sadness. Maxine is approaching 17, and is probably about 17 pounds too. I have to get a scale. It's amazing how all the beautiful, athletic cats I've had lived relatively short lives, now the fat, funny looking one just keeps trundling along with no end in sight. It's already brutally hot and humid here, guaranteed to hit at least 95 before the day's over. The front yard was done two weeks ago, the back yard is getting that jungle look again. I'll have to do something about that, if not today, then soon. But then it'll be time to do the front again, and that's the part that the neighbors and criminals can see, so you can "see" my dilemma.

:cryinlaugh: :sm_angel: :cryinlaugh:

The final day of the U.S. National Track and Field Championships to select the team that will go to The World's in Helsinki is today from 1700-1900 hours on ESPN2. Yesterday's telecast was incredibly exciting, with one major sad note, and perhaps end to a brilliant career, so not so sad after all. I may have a cigar for that, or I may be out in steaming weather workin' on the weeds. :dunno: :cryinlaugh:

I love sushi too, eel, tuna, salmon, you name it, lots and lots of wasabi too. Take good care of that wife, Vince. Good wives have always been hard to come by, and these days they're impossible. And forget the accent and suits, we love you just the way you are.
