Ah Yes Sunday morning.....Jan. 15, 06. An Onyx Reserve and a cup of Costco whole bean coffee. It is not unusual for my cigar to out class my coffee.....LOL. After church and a sunny day......I just don't think it can get any better than this, well here on earth anyway. I sure hope great cigars are our reward when we leave. :D

5:20 Pm , Sorry for the late post I was busy this morning & had company this afternoon & since the game was on I had to listen to some of it, but with 2 minutes to go I had to take a bathroom break, well I saw the fumble & the missed field goal, & was happy for a win no matter how sloppy it was , a guy from Ambridge did win 50 large , yep $50,000 on the opening drive touchdown, dammmmmm what a way to spend the day, winning big & the Steelers pulling one out of the fire ! Ok enough with the football , lets get back to the Sunday posting, Breakfast was tofu & one egg, a pot of Kona & out the door I went, off to New Castle Pa,for a POD cast, you can pick up the link on http://www.burghhefers.com
got home just in time for the kick off ! , this is the 6th instalment of "Blowen Smoke" if you get a chance you might want to take a listen , you can email your thoughts to the web site or call
(206)-203-HERF & leave your comments on the machine , we would love to hear from you !, yes I know that isnt a Pittsburgh area code, it is in Washington I think but this is the number we got the best rate on so thats what we used.
the grandsons are here & I got to make supper with help from the older of the 2 , he is 10 & wants to help do everything, well I made spanocopitia (sp?) ( spinich & feta cheese wrapped in phillo dough ), the kids will eat spinich that way but not any other way?? go figure ! I like it raw in a salad myself , with a hot bacon dressing & hard boiled eggs , yummy
there will be a lot of celebrations in the Burgh tonight & I will be sitting right here at home with the rug rats , no need to be out & about with all the drinking going on , I dont need to get into a traffic accident when some drunk comes running a red light , so we will stay in tonight , better safe than sorry. I have a feeling some of the drunks will show up at the Qtr.deck tonight, so I better be here to let them in ! hahaha ~ you all are welcome, just bring your own beer, I dont have any ! , I do have a lot of whisky & coffee but no beer. since I dont drink it any more I dont buy it any more.
I need to loose 8 pounds, then I will hit a total off of 200 pounds, , I started at 417 now at 225. , I go back to the doc on Tuesday, should be all ok I did get some blood work last week & should find out Tuesay, but if anything was way out of wack he would have called , I HOPE anyhow !, I feel good so I hope it is a good check up, but I go to the eye doc on Thursday, lazer on the left eye again, damm it is hell getting old, but getting old is better than not getting old !!
I hope to have extra good news by next Sunday, I had an offer for a job , & I did except the offer, I havent signed anything as yet , but I will be the Factory Rep for Tabacalria Tropical for Western Pa . "On the road again , I cant wait to get on the road again" , thank you Willie Nelson .
I have been sipping a fine single malt since 3:00 today ,
Aberlour A'brundh, cask strenght, 121 proof , smooth as a new born babys bottom , great aroma, wonderful looking legs , great color & fantastic taste with a viscosity like Honey ..... dammmm goood weeee drammmm . well the phone is ringing & the drunken fools are calling all ready, the heat is on in the Qtr.Deck & I am ready for the onslot & a verbal replay of the game, Time to get off the computer & out to the Qtr.Deck,

Enjoy, Vince

ps welcome to the zoo foodislife

Great posts cian and vince!

And cian, my parents will be storming your beaches on Tuesday - they just left yesterday on a cruise and should be in St. Thomas in two more days!

Yes, the Steelers are one step away from The Big Dance. They did Ol' Coach Sgt. Slaughter proud today. By the way, I DO think at least a few of those drunks WILL be showing up at your quarterdeck tonight. Good choice staying in. You'll be safer, the ones that show will be safer, and tomorrow morning, you can send them on their way with a nice breakfast and a note to the wife.

4 of the 5 that showed up just left in fairly good shape, #5 is sleeping in the Qtr.Deck tonight , I have his keys !, he will be in no shape for breakfast in the morning, I covered the floor with a plastic sheet & left him a bucket , I dont think he will be able to hit the bucket, thats why I put down the plastic, dammmmm fool .
he showed up in the bag, with a bottle in his hand, we took it off him , it was empty, didnt want him to hurt any one with it, , But now he is in the arms of Morphius & should be there all night, but if he gets up he will be in trouble, I locked the front door, the grandsons are sleeping in sleeping bags in the living room, I dont want him to trip over them ! So I hope he sleeps all night, with all he drank he should sleep all day !
the boys will be making breakfast for me & the Boss , so I have high hopes for a tofu omlet !
well it is almost 11 pm, I need to turn out the lights so the rug rats can get to sleep, No school in the morning so it will be a fun dayfor us all. Enjoy, Vince

GO STEELERS

I see they had an Amateur Night in Pittsburgh yesterday.

Sunday Morning, 22 Jan. '06 10:45 AM
Good morning you all who read this thread, it is a wonderful Sunday morning here in the Burgh, the sky is a bit cloudy & frosty this day but I am comfortable with a cup of Kona by my side & a fine cigar waiting for me when I get off the computer & out to the Qtr.Deck I am starting to feel a lot better than I have since the last surgery & am starting to get on Barbs "last nerve" So I will be getting out of the house SOONER than I thought , just to save the arguements that I see comming if I dont get out asap hahahahaha
I got up this morning & made French Toast for the 2 of us she was happy & that is all that matters, all you married guys know what I am talking about, when she is happy everything is fine, but when she isnt , NO ONE is happy, can I get an amen from Fu on that one ! hahaha
I have a pizza crust rising right now, a Broccolli & cheese pizza for supper today , a white sauce made with ranch dressing mix & some Hot pepper cheese to go on top, I havent been doing a lot of bread but i am just HUNGRY for Pizza today , I will srtech it out thin like a real NYC style pizza but I dont have a coal fired oven to cook it in, but it will go in the oven as HOT as it will go , that will give us a thin crispy crust, I hope, I like the Chicago style Thick Pan crust but I dont think I could eat that any more , so I will work up to it , NYC STYLE just till I get my fix of Pizza today !
Boy do I miss the Sunday pot roasts & related "company" meals !
I cant remember when the last time I fried a chicken! dammmm that sounds good too. hummmm , maybe next Sunday ?? hahaha
The Burgh Hurfers anniul NOG & Grog was Yeasterday at Alleghney Smoke Works in Blawnox Pa. a great time was had by all, my LAST batch of Brandy was not as good as it had been in the past, so I added a bit of honey to take away the bitter taste , it was OK but not like some of the batches i had made in the past & now I have gotten rid of the still, my brother owes me way to much money for me to give it to him so I took it apart & sold the copper ! , dammmm I hated to see it go, But such is life , First it was Ole Angus McStudd who went to the auction block, now the still dammmmm whats next ! NO NOT THAT hahahaha !!!
we have been blessed with some very mild weather here in the Burgh so far this winter, so far only 16 inches of snow, we average 40 a winter season so it looks like Febuary & March will be getting out to clean the drive way a lot more that we have so far this winter season. , Last winter we had 35 inches by December , so I guess we are making up for the over load of last winter !
I had a busy week this past week, I went to the Opthlomogilist (fancy name for the EYE doc) , got a lazer treatment to the left eye & an injection in it also, , dammmmm that hurts , still having a lot of blured vision i the left eye, but I can see the BIG E on the eye chart now, hahahaha I go back in 30 days for a check up & then 90 days for more photos of the inside of the eye, , they give you a small injection of dye to enhance the photos, , turns you Urine a Bright floresent Yellow/Green, hey look I can write my mane in glowing color hahahaha
ALL the drunks from last Sunday night made it home safe ( some not till Monday Morning & his wife has not allowed him to forget that yet, ) I dont think he will be out & about tonight regardless of what happens in Denver today ~ Good Luck to the Steelers anyhow, I dont think I will be watching the game, not that I dont want to be a foot ball fan , but I do have a life to live & it is not centered on sports, I will be cooking about 4/4:30 so I am not even worried about missing or seeing the game today, man is not a total sports junkie, we do have other intrests in life, I will be enjoying a fine cigar sipping the last of thepot of Kona & sipping a fine old single malt & fireing up a cigar this afternoon with some Jazz on the CD player or the radio what ever I find to my liking. To be honest I hope I dont get to much company today, they will want to watch the game or at lest listen to it , but I just want to chill out & relax today, I had a tuff week hahahahaha
There was no school for the kids this past Friday but the teachers had to go in , so I got the honor as it were of "Babt Sitting " the rugrats , we went to the barber & got a hair cut for the boys, & then out to lunch, at the Blue Violet Cafe, the coffee shop across from the cigar shop, I feel sort of sorry for the help there, I am bad enough by my self let alone a 10 year old & an 8 year old with me,
so there the 3 of us sat 8, 10 & 12 years old ( me in my adolesent state) but the bad part is I have a drivers licence & can by my own cigars & whisky, , , not allowed to smoke in the coffee shop & I do respect that wish, but cant wait till they open the smoking deck out back, but I have been know to BYOB & have a little taste in my coffee( But NEVER when I am driving or with the rugrats ) , the owners father likes my home made wine & brandy .So as long as I bring him a "little tase" its all OK !
it is about time I go out & turn on the heat in the Qtr.Deck , brew up a third pot of coffee for the day & figure out what I will smoke today, should it be a Cuban I got yesterday or an Opus X that has been in the humi since '03 that I found last week in the wrong humidor, I dont know how it got there , but it was dated 1/03 on the tag, Oh well , it could have been one of my friends trying to pull one over on me or I could just chalk it up to a scotch induced misplacement , what ever it was/is I just think I should smoke that one today, as soon as I figure out what I will have after it & what to have to drink with it, & there are so many varribles I must consider that it is giving me a head aches just trying to think about it, SO I will not do any more "thinking " today hahahaha Enjoy the day !! Vince

Ahhhhhh, time to go upstairs and brew a Freedom Press of La Minita from Costa Rica. It's a bright, beautiful, Championship Game Sunday here in Dutchess County, NY. The temperature hit 60 degrees yesterday, and the winds hit around 50, taking down a 15 foot section of my back fence. Hey, it was leaning from the last time the winds hit 50, like last week, during the huge rain storm. One day the whole fence will come down, because it's old, dilapidated and needs replacement, so God actually saved me some work yesterday, that's 15 feet less than I have to knock down myself.

Praise The Lord. Hey, it really works. Now, how about a million----, . . .

naaaaaaaahhhhhhhhhhh, it doesn't work like that, and besides, Vince told me a few times I'm already rich, and look, with wisdom like this:

"all you married guys know what I am talking about, when she is happy everything is fine, but when she isnt , NO ONE is happy, can I get an amen from Fu on that one !"

Yup, you got that right buddy, so why quarrel with a wise man. I'm RICH!!! Okay, so now that I know I'm rich, I'm going upstairs to make that coffee. Shame about Vince's still.

This winter sucks. Last year at this time, we were waking up to temperatures well into the minus column, but now we're having an early spring. I guess I'm saving on heating bills. Hey, no wonder I'm rich, I'm saving on heating bills. Hmmmmmmmmm, may be time to go check out ordering some cigars. Hey, I may be in foreclosure, but Vince says I'm rich, and the furnace isn't going on NEARLY as much as last year.

Hmmmmmmm, let's see, what was that address again, dubya, dubya, dubya, dot, . . .

Coffee on the boat was Peets' Garuda blend. This is a full-bodied blend of coffees from the Indonesian islands. IMO, it has nutty qualities with a taste of earth. The beans come from Oceania and Indonesia, and have different flavor characteristics, a result of the kind of coffee production used on islands in the Archipelago (up to six different beans are used in this blend). Some of the coffees are produced in the "natural" or dry method; other coffees are "washed," which creates more acidity and a refined flavor to the blend.

It is time to make a cigar run to the British Virgin Islands (the holidays always put a dent in my cigar cabinet). Le Madame and one of her sisters who arrived for a visit, are in Puerto Rico (Old San Juan) shopping. After all the holiday expenditures it was obvious that my wallet was going to take a hit again. As they were leaving for the airport, I brought this to Le Madame's attention. She gave me one of her brightest toothy smiles, a big kiss and glided out the door, her sister (laughing) in tow along with my daughters. In the words of the immortal Elayne Boosler: "When women are depressed, they eat or go shopping. Men invade another country. It's a whole different way of thinking.”

Later, I pondered this as FuManChu, (my golden retriever and companero) and I cast off, sailing to Roadtown on our quest for cigars. I wore one of my Christmas gift t-shirts that says: "Follow your dreams, except the one where you’re at school in your underwear."

I sighed. In my household, no female above the age of eight listens to anything I say. As George Burns observed: "Happiness? A good cigar, a good meal, a good cigar and a good woman - or a bad woman; it depends on how much happiness you can handle."

As I related all of this to Fu, he listened very solemnly and never once interrupted or threatened to go shopping. As Dave Barry says about dogs: “You can say any foolish thing to a dog, and the dog will give you this look that says, "My God, you're right! I never would've thought of that!”

4 cruise liners were pulling into Havensight, (joining two already there) today, as my first mate and I made our escape from the crowd. In the sparkling sunshine, it seemed like the blue green harbor water was dotted with hundreds of small shiny pinwheels, as chop from departing skiffs, boats and liners collided with new arrivals, forcing the foam at the apex of the waves into different and more complicated patterns as the current moved everyone and everything through the harbor.

I lit up a Bolivar Belicosos Finos (vitola is Campana). This is a full body, full strength complex stick, that comes with a dark chocolate wrapper. It has a rich aroma and complex flavors. Rolling the smoke in your mouth, the rich earthy flavors mix with a slightly sweet cocoa under tone and of course the Cuban spice that is always present. IMO, it is not a smooth cigar as a Montecristo #2. IMO it is a power smoke. A fine sailing cigar, with a long finish.

We have a 2-3 hour sail to BVI. Fu is in his accustomed spot near the bow, acting as official greeter. My cell phone rang. It is my wife checking on the whereabouts of the two unsupervised male members of her family. Yes, I said, we are under way. No, Fu is not drinking Scotch. For that matter, neither am I (but I will).

As my favorite Irish philosopher, Emo Philips said: “Do not meddle in the affairs of dragons, for you are crunchy and good with ketchup.”

Amen to that Vince!

I think it might be time for a Victory Cigar & drink & Pre Super bowl get together , now all we need is who, where & when, the Qtr.deck is open anytime, if you all want to come here, or at B&B cigar in Rochester, I do have a key to the front door hahaha, & maybe some sleezy bar or strip club , who cares as long as there is drink & cigars a little skin showing is ok with me, IF THE SKIN ISNT ON A DUDE , come on show a little class hahahaha!

I was at my daughters last night so no drunks to contend with at the Qtr.Deck , amen !

Cian, get Fu on the boat & head up the Mississippi you can stop in Rochester Pa, right at the Beaver River, no need to go all the way to the Burgh ! hahahaha, any one else, PM me for directions
Enjoy, Vince

Vince and Bloofington: Great posts!!(I did, however, laugh the most at Vince's ode to 'what to do when the wife gets upset'). Vince, thank you kindly for your invitation to explore the Mississippi. Knowing the habits and abilities of my first mate, FuManChu and myself, we would probably arrive for your Super Bowl party sometime in early April.

Perhaps no one says it better (or worse) than Joan Rivers regarding the current state of matrimonial bliss and habitation. "I'm a double bagger. Not only does my husband put a bag over my face when we're making love, but he also puts a bag over his head in case mine falls off."

now that Joan Rivers got a face lift ( number 9 ), the small cleft in her chin is her belly button ! she shouldnt need a bag, just a Gag , but with the right posisition you could gag her & "Do " her at the same time hahaha after all old ladys need loven but just not as often,
Cian , Fu & you are welcome anytime, April is fine with me, but the rivers are still high & some times a bit of ice still flowing from the upper Allegheny , if the winer ever gets here, by this time last year we were solid ice, but now Nothing, it has been in the 40's most of the month, I will bet Fu wouldnt know what to do if he had to lift his leg & it froze to the flag pole hahahaha , I will bet he wouldnt want to go in the water here hahahaha water temp at the point this morning was 37F. That will make the testicals go into hiding for a few days hahahaha
I felt like a little celebration this morning so I made some Kona , I always save the Kona for Sundays , but this morning I thought hey why NOT !!
I have the Turkey carcase in the pot from Christmas , took it out of the freezer this morning & it will be soup some time about 5 pm , I made 3.5 quarts for just the boss & my self, so pull up a chair there is a lot to go arround ! Enjoy, Vince

Keep it up Vince, I hope everything works out for you in that Eye surgery department. I had a very busy weekend, and Monday was spent working a poll for our very busy election, so today is the first chance I had to read some of this stuff.

A very long day, but it was worth it to make sure our democratic election was just that - democratic. It always amazes me how many new people vote every time we do this, it is so good that people realise what a privelige it is that we have the freedom to go and vote, and no body can tell us how to do it. I think we all need to think about that once in a while, and make sure that we remember to thank those responsible, and then to make our graititude heard at the ballot box.

There you go, my little message of the week!

hah!
I smoked a big a$$ camacho to celebrate the steeler win! Been real busy this week. Been trying to free up some time for the Q deck Vince. Not sure about this week or not yet.

There is nothing worse than being interupted during a good cigar..well, ...maybe leprocy....maybe....

& I just HATE it when I am taking a dump & the wife starts to ask me a question , dammm thats why I close the door, to meditate & read playboy hahaha,, I dont want bothered when I am on the can.

the Scotch & Irish whiskys are taking a big hit this week, as it is way to cold to do much more than sit in the Qtr.Deck & sip coffee & whisky with a nice big fat cigar , I had a Huge Cuban Monte "A" last night with a snifter of A'Brunadh & a mug of Christmas Celebration coffee from Hickory Farms , I thought I might as well drink it now, no reason to keep it till next Christmas, & it was a celebration of sorts, still celebrating the win on Sunday, & the new Job is working out fine, havent had any Huge sales but I will soon , all ready have one new client on board & orders from an old customer .
we got about 1 inch of snow last night, but it was the thunder & lightning that made it a little spooky , strange weather we are having, winds of 25 to 35 mph , dropping the wind chill into the single digits, , now is when I wish I had double the insoluation in the QTR.DECK, my feet got a little chill last night, I guess I need a foot stool, to keep my feet off the floor !
well I need to get dressed 7 get out of the house, even if it is only as far as the Qtr.Deck, but the boss is balancing the check book & I dont want to be here when she opens the credit card bills hahahaha, damm charge cards , the cigar shop always has something I want to try, or just need to replace in my personal stash, , some I want real bad, some I just NEED! you know what I am talking about? some times no matter what you smoke you just need to smoke that certain cigar , like when you have rice crispys for breakfast & you taste buds want raisin bran, you end up with raisin bran for lunch , but it just dosent hit the mark, you know that your taste buds wanted it for breakfast & lunch just didnt cut it , , for those of you who are driven by there taste buds will know what I am talking about, for you who are not driven by your taste buds you wonder , What the H3ll is he rambling on about ? duhhh !
dammmmmmmmed if I know ! hahaha

Enjoy, Vince

Sunday Morning just before 11 am 29 Jan.06
it has been a warm & quiet week here in the Burgh, we have had temps in the 40's all week, not a typical Jan. for sure , & the menu has shrunk as my waist line has shrunk, I am DOWN TO 217 that is 200 pounds less than I was in April of 04, my new underware are 40-42 , , I was in a 62 & it was TIGHT , dammmmm I feel good , the only problem I have had is with the iron suplemt I am on , it has me clogged up tighter than a 12 year old virgin on prom night in West Va. hahahaha, I hate that feeling, I am cutting back on the iron, I just need to GO ! hahaha
Supper today will be turkey rice soup, I have it in the freezer from the last time I made it so now I need room in the freezer, who knows what I might want to cook next so I better get this on the stove to make room !
I sat in the Qtr.Deck last night with a super strong mug of coffee & a Te Amo bellicoso, my first Mexican cigar of the year, I took a bag of decalf cafe expresso coffee ment to make a full 12 cup pot & made a 20 ounce mug full, ahhh the advantages of a FREEDOM Press pot , let it sit for 5.5 minutes & pressed, thick on the pallete like maple syrup, strong enough to stand up with out the cup ! GOOOOOOD coffee, it stood up to the cigar & the A'Brunadh single malt , I have noticed since the last surgery I am loosing a bit of my taste buds, cant put a finger on it but ever sice I got home I have needed more & more flavor in everything, like the little taste buds have gone to sleep on me, I even notice the aroma of some thing has changed, likee my Saturday night smell good stuff , that I splash on , ( since I dont shave , I cant call it aftershave hahaha )
well it just dosent smell like it did before, my wife said I am full of crap, , she is right again hahaha but I think it has a different aroma but she said No it is the same as it always was, & I know she is NEVER WRONG ! how about it FU, can I get an amen to that ? hahaha ( I know that Fu has never met my wife but I am sure he is aware of the fact that the wife is Never wrong ! )
Mike is back in the hospital, he is having a lot of adjustment problem & was getting very adjetatted & lashing out to anyone in arms reach, I have a few bruses to show for it, but I know it is not Mike but his brain injury that is doing it, dammmm I sure miss the old Mike.
I have my Sunday Mug of Kona & I will be headed out to the Qtr.Deck in a llittle while with a Diamond Crown Maximus Dbl.Corona , nothing special to celebrate but what the hell , it is Sunday & I am alive, what more reason to celebrate do I need? hahahaha ! Enjoy, Vince
