I am not much of a rum fan, got a bottle of the 10 cane , ahhh its ok as rum goes but I want the Smoke of Islay !

Vince, don't get too excited about testing your bathroom scale with barbell plates. Unless your barbell plates are by Eleiko, the Swedish company that had those famous Olympic sets in use during the 70's and 80's, or one of the other VERY EXPENSIVE barbell makers, who machine their plates to exact weight, and CHARGE for it, chances are it's the plates and not the scale.

When I was bodybuilding during the 70's, I often found it fascinating that after a record left during a powerlifting contest, the plates and bar had to be weighed. Guess what? NOT EXACT!!! The lifts frequently had to be adjusted. That was when most powerlifting contests were held in gyms, YMCA's, etc. I'm sure they have more money today, to spend on the fancy barbell sets that really DO weigh 803 pounds when it's supposed to weigh 803 pounds.

I put 4 - 50 pound plates & the scale was at 200 right on the nose, with a 5th plate it was 252 , when I had the plates on one at at time they were right on at 50 pounds, they are York plates that have a nice coating on them , Black & Gold , I was at the docs again & on the digital scale in the office I was 215.8 & all I had on was my size 40 undershorts, no glasses, no wrist watch, & I took a good dump before I went in & made sure I emptyed the bladder , I even cut my nails & made sure I didnt have any lint in my belly button hahahahaha, I should have gotten my hair cut before I went but I didnt have time hahahaha ! maybe I should have blown my nose before hahahaha . I am still loosing a little bit each week & I hope to stop soon, the lighest I can remember being was 203 & that was back in the late 70's , so if I am at 217 or even 219 , I beat my goal of 235 , I thought I would never see that ! Enjoy, Vince

5 Feb. 06 Super bowl Sunday
Good morning to all of you posters & readers, it is Super bowl Sunday in the Burgh , for the 6th time in 40 years the City of Pittsburgh has a team in the biggest hyped Football game of the year , right now we are 4 wins & one loss & I hope they win the one for the Thumb this time , when the Steelers Lost the last time they were in the Super bowl I won the pool , with Pittsburgh driving for the final score I had the right numbers on the pool if the score remains the same & the steelers loose I win $1000.00, if they score & win the game, I loose the cash, well I wonder who I was pulling for in the final minutes of that game. ME , hahahaha yes I wanted the score to stay the same, & why not it put a grand in my pocket , I have some DIE HARD Steelers fan Buddy's that said NO they would want the win more than the cash & I say BULL$HIT
I will take the cash anytime, like a bookie , they don't care who wins as long as they make some money . So this time I DID NOT get on any football pools at all , I don't even know if I will be watching come game time , I do plan on having a nice quiet Sunday with the grandsons out of town with there father this weekend I am free to do as I want & I think I want to relax , sip a lot of Kona , sip a weeee dram or 2 of some fine old malt whisky& smoke a few cigars & listen to some Mozart, Bach & a little Benny Goodman today .
I will be making a small beef roast later today , nothing special , no chicken wings or chili & salsa with chips for the game, just a Nice laid back Sunday Supper
I have the pot of Kona working all ready , I have my Cuesta - Rey travel mug filled & sitting at arms length filled with the light roast coffee , My Sunday treat . I went to the end of the drive way to get the Sunday paper out of the tube , I wish they would go back to the old system & put the paper in my door , I am a lazy old fart & don't want to get dressed to go get the paper, I want to open the door & there it is between the screen door & the regular door, but NO I need to put on pants & a jacket , along with shoes to go out & get the dmmmmm paper , If I don't go get it , my wife will & then I hear about it all day long how she had to get dressed before breakfast & go out for the paper, so I make sure I do it so I don't have to hear it all day.
we got a light coating of Snow over night & according to the National Weather Service we should get 1 to 3 inches of the whits stuff, it rained all day yesterday & the good thing about that is you never shovel the rain !!! Not that I would be out moving snow , my motto is God put it there , let God remove it , but she want s it gone, so I let her , hey knock your self out sweep shovel, what ever you want, I have a system, I get a bag of calcium chloride & sprinkel it over the snow, it melts & I am DONE . but it stains the walk way & it kills the plants on the side of the walk way , SO WHAT, they will grow bak & the next rain will clean the walk way ! she wants me to get a bucket & a brush & clean the stain ( a white film of salt ) WHY, WHO cares what the side walk looks like, well that opened a whole new can of worms hahahahaha
I have to make her French toast this morning & get the beef ready for the oven so I better get to the kitchen & make my magic , have a great Superbowl Sunday , time to make the donuts
Enjoy, Vince

FuManChu, my golden retriever, and I left for the harbor early in the morning. This being Super Bowl Sunday, I thought we would get our business done before the game. After brewing a pot of Columbian Supremo, I rummaged through my humidor to find a corresponding smoke. Fu is wearing his bandana and visor (with help, of course, as he has good intentions but, alas, no thumbs) and I am wearing a t-shirt (given to me by my daughters) that says: “Therapy helps, but screaming obscenities is cheaper.” Le Madame obviously had a hand in this.

The coffee is Columbian Supremo which is medium strength and sweet with a pleasing flavor and delicious aroma. The name Supremo comes from the size of the bean. Supremo beans are slightly larger than Excelso, Extra, and Pasilla beans. The brew has a touch of acid but is sweet and rich throughout; having a broad flavor range that includes orange and floral notes. Both aroma and finish have a slight bitter edge, which is rounded and softened as the coffee cools in the cup.

It is a lovely morning in the Caribbean. Sunny, a little chop in the bay, temperatures near 78% with a light wind that whips invitingly through the hair and around your face; water birds skimming just off the surface of the wave foam, hunting for breakfast. My morning cigar: Montecristo A (vitola is Gran Corona) is a smoke that almost always impresses by its size and power. This is a huge cigar amongst cigars and IMO is definitely for an experienced palate. The Monte A is true to the Montecristo philosophy of full bodied aromas dominated by scents of earth and damp wood. IMO, the cigar gets more forceful and pungent as you smoke it, and finishes in a rich haze (2 and ½ hours later) of wood, earth and glorious spice. The construction is superb.

I do a lot of my work (paying bills, reading reports, writing and preparing the occasional article) on the boat in the forward cabin where the captain’s chair is set. It is comfortable, with a clean view of the harbor and all the goings on. My companero FuManChu knows the way by heart and when he is tired of barking at pelicans, seagulls and colorful bikinis on speed boats dancing by, he makes his way up has a drink of water and plops on my feet for a snooze. Sometimes I muse about what goes through my companero’s mind during our travels. As George Carlin puts it: “When your pet bird sees you reading the newspaper, does he wonder why you're just sitting there, staring at carpeting?”

My cell phone rang. It is Le Madame. Yes, I tell her, I will be home soon. The dawg is fine. No, I have not been drinking (mixing Grand Marnier in coffee does not count in Ireland). I hang up and stared down at Fu who, upon hearing my wife’s voice, woke right up and gave me that knowing look that we male members of the family have in common. As Benjamin Franklin said: “There's a fine line between fishing and standing on the shore looking like an idiot.”

P.S. Bloofington - you are really too kind. I look at the exchanges between you and Brother Vince in the early going on the thread and I still laugh. Picstr, thank you for the kind words.

Before you said it, when you mentioned the slogan on the t-shirt, I said to myself, "Cian's wife." :cryinlaugh: And to this day, after over 14 years of drinking real coffee, Colombian Supremo is still one of my all-time favorites, perhaps Top Five. Any real Cuban Montecristo is too big for me, :rotflmao: so you can keep the 9 1/4x47's. :cryinlaugh:

Good Morning Vince. I am glad you liked the Picture of the smallest Steeler fan. Well after 4 or 5 trys I finally figured out this BBQ thing. I have been trying to cook those Pork butts like the natives down here in Virginia have been doing for years and years. Sat morning about 9 or 10 I rubed this pork butt with a mixture of about 10 or 12 secret ingredents that you can get from most "How To Grill" cookbooks. I heated up the big stainless steel grill on the back porch, Put the drip pan under the center section and placed the now red piece of meat on the center of the grill. It took about two hrs to get the outer two burners to keep the heat at 225, accorting to the installed thermometer, so as not to cook this BUTT to fast. I checked it about every hour or so to keep the temp steady. I don't know how those guys who use charcoal keep the temp right. They have to be watching those grills constantly. Anyway at 5 PM my daughter calls and says that we should come over and help her and my grandson eat this big pan of lasgina she made. So I go out and check the BUTT, its at 182, I was hoping for 190, but itis close enough. Off comes the BUTT, wrap it in tin foil set it out to cool. I get home about 8 pm. The BUTT is cool and ready to chop. The problem is it is just not done enough to pull apart. So I slice and chop untill it all in a pan for the frig. Sunday morning is time to put the choped up BUTT in the crock pot for the final stage. Chopped pork, cup of Big Daddy Rays BBQ sauce, cup of Apple cider vinager and turn on the pot. The family showed up about 3 pm ready for some BBQ. Big Kyser rolls, lots of cole slaw, slice of cheese and some Texas Pete. A meal on a bun. By the way, I thought the officials did a great job calling the SUPER Bowl. It was a pretty good day.

Tom, I have an easier way to get good and tender butt (man does that sound wrong, anyways). You smoke the butt for about 3-4 hours. After that you gain not much more flavour from the smoke. Then wrap that puppy in tin fiol with a good bit of beer in it and put him in a pan (just to hold the juices in). Turn the temp up to about 300. Make sure the tin foil is tight about the meat and doesn't let the steam escape easily. Then just roast it for a couple more hours. Basically you are braising the meat now. The steam will be at 212 degrees and not be cooking it too fast. Do this until you reach the desired texture of the meat. A meat thermometer works ok, but your eyes and fork will be the best judge of doneness for good Q. If the meat falls apart when you take a fork to it, its done. I just tried doing this method for the past few times I have had the smoker out and it works great. I smoked a whole pork shoulder in only 6 hours yesterday and it worked better than I had imagined. Good luck.

25F here in the City of Champions today, it was freezing cold with winds about 25 miles per hour , Great Parade for the Champs some stupid school adminastrater called off school so the kids could go to the celebration !!, not a good move, hey if the parents want to keep the kids home fine, but for the school to call it off , what kind of a message are they sending to the kids, hey they dont call off work when there is a parade, you go, to the parade you dont get paid that day, simple, but the teachers get a pass on it & will add a day at the end of the term , no money lost, but ig your a kid working at a basic teen age stock boy job or flippingburgers & you take off to go to the parade you dont get paid for it, , I think it should be up to the parents & not the school, some of the kids want to go to the parade & some will go to class, , ME I watched it on the 6 pm news, I did what I was supposed to do today, I went to work ! I could have gone to town for the parade but I did the adult thing, I did what needed to do , I went to work.
just my rant for not going to the parade hahah dammm it !
Enjoy, Vince
