What Did You Smoke Today

Brenda, how would you compare the Don Carlos Cameroon with the Hemmingways?

The Don Carlos has excellent construction. Smooth, flawless wrapper. I rarely have burn issues or draw issues with these smokes. Very rarely. It's a smooth smoke. I only smoke these every so often.

The Hemingway is a spicier cigar. Don't get me wrong I like cigars with a bit of a bite to them. This is why I smoke so many Short Stories. They are full of flavor and perfect with coffee in the a.m. I do have burn issues with Hemingways. Does this have anything to do with that they are figurados? maybe.

Hemingway's a better value. But, if I had my choice to a free Don Carlos or a Free Hemingway, I'd choose the Don Carlos.

I smoke Hemingways way more than any other.

I HEART Short Stories.

They are both fantastic.

I've never experienced any burn issues with the Hemmingways (SS, Classic, Signature).

The only perfecto that had burn issues was my Gurkha Centurian XX. But that happened only once.

So, the DC is a bit milder than the Hemmingway? I'll have to give it a try one day.

Me thinks because it's a figurado it's wrapped tightly at the head. I usually have to use a poker to open it up.

I smoked my first RP Edge today. It was one of the ones without cello (I heard they are different, somehow). For the first inch of the cigar, I can honestly say I had not smoked such a terrible cigar in a long time. :x After that, the flavor profile really changed (i.e., it didn't taste like poop), and then it was pretty good. And it's definitely got a kick to it. I will have to try another one at some point.

Haha Aubrey! The Edge is awsome glad it turned out to be a good smoke for you. They are a fav of mine.

What kind of Edge did you smoke? Maduro or Corojo? I find the Maduro less than stellar but the Corojo I could easily smoke every day.

Smoked a Juan Lopez Corona yesterday, nice densely packed box press, lovely taste, some chocolate and some coffee to it. I would definitely buy another, this seems like it would age very well.

It was the corojo...it was weird, though. After the first inch, it was a great smoke...Now, if only I can get someone to smoke the first inch of the cigar for me next time I get one...wait, on second thought, that's gross.

You probably just got a bad cigar. The Edge is a favorite of mine, and I've never had a problem like that. I prefer the maduro though.

Last night I had a SS at work. I was driving so I did have a bit of trouble with the burn/draw at first. It has to be the figurado press because once I got past the shaped foot, it was a smooth, creamy smoke. I'll have to clip the nub thingy off my next one and see what that does.

Anywho, its been at least a good 8 months since I've last had one, and I'm glad that all the cameroon and Hemingway talk came up now. These are some great old friends I'll be visiting a lot more often.

Yesterday afternoon, I got to smoke a little Cohiba Red Dot. It was a good smoke, but a wee bit harsh - we will revisit them in about 4 months or so, and see if there is an improvement.

Had a Perdomo Reserve Cameroon tonight, very enjoyable.

acharpe: don't give up on the Edges, they are great cigars! Like inaquagmire said, it was probably a just a rare bad stick.

I will definitely give the cigar another try. With all of the good words that many have had about it, as well as hearing a little more about it on the podcast yesterday, I will have to try again.

because of this discussion i had to go out and try an edge yesterday.

i thought it was good. no burn issues.

i didnt get to catalog it but i seem to remember that i liked the aftertaste a lot. oh... it was the maduro

I love both of them and just finished a corojo this morning. After all this talk and going a couple days not smoking I have to say that was one heck of a good cigar. Bottom line: RP just dont make no junk! lol!

Had my first c.com cameroon. These are great smokes.

If you haven't tried the Cuban label yet, I would strongly suggest it. Those sticks are fantastic and consistent. I'd be tempted to sit a box back for a few years and see how they smoke.

La Aurora Preferido Platinum (Thanks, Craig!). I may have to revisit my list of favorite Cameroons because that is one awesome cigar!

I managed to smoke two cigars this afternoon, and it made a nice comparison. The first was an LGC Series R Toro, thanks Adam, I coudn't hold off any longer with that one. A little bit strong yet, I am thinking it was still a little fresh.

Then I finished a Vintage 90 that was sitting in my smoking shed for about a week or so. Very nice!!!
