What Did You Smoke Today

Okay, I had one of the "conterfeit cuban" cigars that JR was selling in their store when I was there (you got a fresh rolled Perdomo with every 3 bought). In my defense, the blond that was pushing them was very convincing - I couldn't help myself - I'm only human.

Oh yeah, it kind of sucked. LOL - oh, but you'll like the one I gave you Scott! Sorry man.

I decided to have the Joya de Nicaragua Antano Gran Reserva I had left and it was tasty but seemed a little young yet. Was a little bitter like pipe fluid but that petered out about a quarter of an inch in. Good after that so I'll have to pick up another to compare.

I decided to leave work early last night and meet some off-duty firemen at the bar. I smoked a Opus belicoso, a couple Bolivar PC's, and when I got home I smoked a Siglo VI. All in all not a bad night. Kinda hard to talk though!!

Hey Capt,
That sounds like a lot. Do you really taste the last few cigars when ou smoke that many in a night?

Call me a wuss but after a half or 3/4 of a cigar I am done for the night. I still have cigar mouth the next day. Anyone have a good way to fight the dry taste in your mouth the next day or should I just suck it up and stop pissin' and moaning?

My father stopped by this morning, with a coffee from Dunkin Donuts and a few cigars for me since I won't see him for a while. Anyways, to make a long story short, he gave me a Partagas Spanish Rosado to smoke. He had one also. This was one unbelievable cigar, and one of the finest I have ever had the opportunity to smoke. This cigar has a great flavor, a taste of chocolate, a nice even burn followed by a strong, but even, spicey finish. One fine looking smoke! Construction can get a little loose the last inch or so.

I definatley recomend it, if you haven't had one, get one! Definatley one for the humidor.

How many cigars (on average) do you all smoke in a week? Also, I've read all the text book answers of what to look for in a cigar (characteristics, construction, etc.) What sort of things do you look for in a cigar. What makes it memorable?

i used to smoke about 5-6 a week in the summer but now its a bit nippy outside so ive cut back to about 2-3. what makes a cigar memorable is particularly unique flavor and or very strong. proper burning is somthing i would expect from any decent cigar so if it burns right, thats what it should be, it doesnt make it stand out in my head.

I've just discovered the Joy of Cigars and have been smoking about two a week. My problem is: I like them all!

I just feel that without a developed palate (just like with a good bottle of wine) all of the subtle flavors are lost on me. I have a lot of homework to do.

everyone starts there.
I've been smoking seriously for over a year now. Sometimes a couple a day sometimes only one. Rarely smoke during the week.
I have noticed that when you smoke 2 or three in a day, you can tell the different nuances between them...it just takes experience to develop your palete...have fun...thats what counts :D

I smoked a ton of cigars in SC. I can't even remember all of them. I had an Ashton Aged Maduro, several Boli PCs, a Joya de Nicaragua Celebration, a PSD4, a REO, a La Aurora Preferido, and probably a bunch more that I can't remember.

I'm gonna take a break and not smoke for a few days.

Brenda, all my smoking friends think I am nuts for doing this, but next time you have a couple hours, smoke two cigars at the same time. Preferrably smaller corona or robusto length. Alternate puffs, and see if you can spot the differences. you don't have to smoke the whole cigar, and I wouldn't recommend expensive cigars right away either. Take one of your usuals, and something you have never tried. You'll be amazed at the differences you find. Good luck!!

Capt, that's a good idea. Gonna give that one a try myself. I've done the comparison one after another, but never at the same time.

6-8 a week depending on my shifts at work since I only smoke there.

The palate thing takes awile. I've been smoking cigars exclusively since June and even in that short a time I have developed a decent palate. Not on par with Alex or Castlecrest for sure but respectable. Cigars I first started off smoking are absolutely disgusting to me now. Another thing is, I started off smoking at least ten dollar cigars like Cognac infused Gurkhas and Cohiba Red Dots. All but one of my favorites now are under 6 dollars. Price has nothing to do with likeability. Don't make that mistake. Smoke what YOU like, not what the industry wants you to like.

Since I'm up at school I usually only smoke 8-10 each week, unless I go watch football with Calibus...then I kill 5 or 6 in one day

But today I only had time for a couple of Cuban Cohiba Minis, since I'm studying my a$$ off for tomorrow's Butchery final.

And I already have tomorrow's celebration smokes all set: Cien Años Churchill and DIPLOMA :D

Brenda, don't worry about your palate. We had a discussion about that recently. I've been smoking cigars for nine years, and couldn't dig what others were saying about flavors until at least two years in, and that's not at all unusual. Just enjoy them, forget about whether or not they taste like horse saddle leather or creme brulee. One day you'll be smoking one, and it will hit you. From then on, you'll understand, but don't let looking for flavors in all the wrong places ruin the experience of just plain enjoying the meditative, relaxing effect of kicking back with a nice cigar.

As for how many, over the years, my average is probably about two or three a week, depending on what's happening with my asthma.

I had a Juan Lopez box pressed torpedo. I was trying to recapture the first one I had which was excellent but I'm losing hope of that now. Had a bad metallic taste for about the first half then that passed into a delicious chocolately nut flavor but as soon as I got to enjoy it, that passed back ito the metallic taste again. I wonder if this has anything to do with the soil composition? Later I had the old standby quickie, a Fuente Exquisitos maduro. That was good as always.

Bloof, I'm no doctor but you should talk to your doctor about the Advair Diskus. My dad lived off of his nebulizer and emergency inhaler until he started that and hasn't had even a wheeze since. Its very expensive without insurance but doctors always have these around if you can't afford it. Its in daily doses so there's no sample packs.
