What Did You Smoke Today

Glad I could be of service, Axe. I buy the heck out of the natural, I really don't remember smoking a maduro yet. Just remember, X-mas is right around the corner!!!

A couple of Cigar.com Cuban Label torpedos and a Romeo and Julieta 1875 Churchill.
72 degrees, breezy, sunshine......a great Sunday.

i had a cao l'aniversaire. not bad, it maintained a nice flavor for a long time, i had to bust out the old roach clip to smoke it down till i was done.

"Vengeance" made by Rocky Patel (or so the box said). The band just had the name and made in Honduras. All I know is it was good. Way up there on my list. Anybody else know anything about this stick? Alex? Was very similar to the maduro Edge only a little bit lighter. A little later I had a maduro Exquisitos.

My tobacconist has according to Nish Patel the largest selection of their cigars in the country for a store. Plus Rocky Patels are some of the best made cigars I've come across. I've yet to have a bad draw or a cigar unravel. And all of their cigars are reasonably priced yet packed with flavor. Also, most of their lines are strong and full of body--the way I like my cigars.

Another reason is that I prefer torpedo caps and they seem to produce the largest assortment.

edit- My god I just read that and I need to call them up and see about becoming a rep  I'm really just a fan

Quagmire,

Rocky makes a lot of different stuff for different people. Chances are this is not a line he makes for his catalog but rather a line he makes for an indipendent distributor. One such cigar is the Reo by Rocky Patel that is distributed by US Cigar. That name may look familiar to you as they were the distributors for Oliva Series X and are now in litigation with Fuente over the use of the X in a trademark lawsuit.

Quagmire, if you have not had the Reo yet, you must track one down. One of the best cigars I have had all year. You are correct abou the quality with Rocky, he is anal about his cigars and that is a good thing. The best part about how particular he is when it comes to quality is that there are a lot of seconds of his vintage line which can be had at a great price just for a small cosmetic blemish. Go to http://www.cigar.com/cigars/default.asp?cmd=list&brand=RP2 for more info on the seconds. Best value out there for the Rocky Fans.

Let's see, the last couple of days I've had the Consuegra #17 Superiore Naturals in the mornings and then a CAO Brazilia Gol, a CAO Extreme Belicoso, a Pueblo Dominicano torpedo, and an Elogio Belicoso for the afternoons.

Anyone have sugestions for cigars that are comparable to the Patel vintage cigars. I like the qualities of the Rocky patel vintage cigars but I always want to try something different.

Quagmire is the one to answer that, he smokes the most Patels I have ever heard of... Quag, I think you should buy some of their stock......

Last night I had a Savinelli Liga Especial torpedo. I had saw the rating of 91 on the 10-4 cigar insider on cigar aficionado and though I would take a stab at it. For $4.25 a piece I could not go wrong. The burn was nice and even. Clean white ash with a touch of grey. The draw was awesome. It seamed like the cigar almost smoked itself. The wrapper had a nice lightly oiled sheen to it. A pleaseure to look at and hold. The even though it was described as medium bodied by CA I thought it was more on the mild side. It opened with ceder then to unfold with leather, and toasty nuts. It had slightly spicy finish but not bitter. The kind of finish that hits the back of your tongue about 30 seconds after you exhale. It was an enjoyable cigar but I would like the leather and toasty nuts to be not as subtle as they were. It was an enjoyable cigar I would recomend. For those of you who like a mild cigar with some spice on the finish I would buy a box. You can't argue with the price.

Phisherman,

I used to tour with Phish back in my days of patch pants and.... well anywayt hat is a story for another time. (Yes for those of you who know me, I was a hippy in my former life  )

If you like the RP Vintage check out the celebraccion or antano by Joya de Nicaragua. Very comparable, especially the celebraccion. Great smoke for the $$$$$

Also, see above post I made about the RP Vintage seconds. Those are a great value.

Am I to understand that the Fuentes, who were so taken aback when that California wine company sued them for using the word "Opus" in the name of a cigar, are now trying to sue someone for using the letter "X" in the name of a cigar? Is THAT what I'm hearing? What a world we live in. :dunno:

I enjoyed an Ashton Aged maduro and a Padron 4000 today while doing absolutely nothing on my day off!

Had a Camacho Havana yesterday.

Back to reality tomorrow for a 16 hour shift!

yes Bloof you heard me correctly. A sad state of affairs indeed. That reminds me, I have to go trademark the number 4. I always liked that number. Later guys.

This is ridiculous. Can I be sued for being named Alfredo by restaurants all over the world that serve Fettucine Alfredo?

:duh: :dunno: :duh:

That depends on which vintage you're referring to whether its 92 or 90. I don't much care for the 1992 so have no comparisons on that but the 90 is indeed similar to the Antano. I have never had the Celebraccion so I don't know about that. Another good comparison in my opinion is the Punch Rare Corojo and--don't flame me on this--the diploma. The diploma has more character though I will admit.

Another reason I'm so loyal to Patels is that I drive for a living and its hard to drive and correct a burn at the same time. With Rockys I don't have to worry about that because they ALWAYS burn straight and true.

I like the RP edge maduro very much....had one last week.

Had a diploma on saturday and an ashton on sunday.

The ashton was my first and it was very good....

don't have to say a word about the diploma :D

Oh man. I had a little tour around the city last night. Started out with a Cusano 18 Maduro (be looking for these online soon), followed by a C10, had a publo dominicano, and a black pearl.

I liked the 18 maduro though it was a little bit young, and the C10 is always a favorite.

However, the Pueblo Dominicano rocked. I am always skeptical of a 10.00 cigar but this baby was worth every penny. I am buying a box asap.
