Good morning , it is Sunday 7/28/13 a damp cool morning here in da burgh, we have had a wonderful week, it started out hazy hot & humid & ended cool wet & windy ,I have all the windows open & the a/c OFF for a change , the grass got cut Friday & the yard looks great, we have had so much rain the past few weeks the low spots in the yard are getting soft & starting to show signs of fish starting to inhabit them ! ,The Robins are loving it as worms are getting forced out of the ground & littering the yard with easy to get meals for the birds. it is a bit over cast right now & looks like rain, & since all my joints are sore I can say rain is coming hahaha, yep I am getting to the point that the joints tell the weather better than the national weather service, , they might be able to forecast over a greater time period, But I know when its time to close the windows before the rain drops show up ! dammm its H3LL getting old
breakfast this morning was a grilled cheese blintz, with corn salsa & fig jam, hot sweet & tasty, the coffee is a pot of Indian Malabar, roasted last Thursday to a medium dark color .I don't know if I will get to the Kona today, there is a lot of the Malabar to drink, & I have a lot to do in the kitchen today , there are 2 steaks in the marinade all ready , corn to go on the grill & a ton of veggies to grill. Every summer I make a grilled veggie salad , zucunnie ,yellow squash , eggplant, peppers onions, tomato's, garlic, Yams, celery, & what ever I can toss on the grill & then when it all cools I add some cubed cheese & some dressing with an EVOO base & something sour , be it lemon juice or sour cream, maybe some lime juice or aged vinegar maybe some of all of them. who knows.......
The Grandsons are back from vacation & I haven't talked to them yet, hope they had a great time....
we have been getting a lot of new product in from the Vegas show & it is a challenge to know what to put out & what to hold back, if I Dump all of it out at the same time I think some of it will get lost in the shuffle , so I plan on adding just a few new items every Friday & see how it sells .....
I want to go to the pistol range this morning but with all the rain we have been getting I am afraid it will be a mud hole ... I don't need that ....... But the sun is out the shadows are covering the yard & the wind is out of the SW clouds are few & far between so it might dry out soon, but I need to focus on the kitchen & the gun range can be put on hold .... AND I have a LOT of cigars to smoke & some 15 YO single malt to taste test, But that will be for later tonight after 8 or 10 cigars to mess up the taste buds plus a ton of garlic on the beef , & some roasted hot peppers , by the time I get to the scotch tonight it might as well be watered down blended scotch ,,,, Naw I think I might know that ! hahaha Enjoy, Vince
 
Jut joined the forum last night. I live in Colorado now, but grew up in Hershey and went to Pitt. Hail PITT. Also used to attend a UCC church out in Dorseyville. Huge Steeelers & Pirates fan. Sitting here in the Denver airport, heading off on a work trip amd have been enjoying this thread. Nice to get the reminders of that crazy weather! I'm glad I'm flying East and can enjoy a smoke with a Yuengling again :) Cheers!

Another fine week of cigars for the summer series. Today it was another Diesel Unholy Coctail, but no Guiness, just a mild lemonade to cleanse the palate. Only 3 more left. :(
 
Good morning , it is Sunday August 4 2013 a cool wet morning here in da Burgh a low last night of 53F & rain over night left us a bit of Fog this Sunday morning, like a London or San Fran morning with out all the noise of the BIG City.... ,all in all it was a good week here , a below average temp all week making it nice & no need to run the A/C , ,I even had on LONG pants last night at my daughters graduation party , she completed here Masters at Duquesne Univ. here in da Burgh, so now she has a student loan to pay back & 2 sons getting ready to go to school out of state or out of the country in less than a year for one & 2 years away for #2 , , time to lace up the work shoes & get back to the grind stone !, it was so much different when I was younger ,working all day & heading to Job #2 & #3 was a "piece of cake " ,but now dammmmm I am to Frigging old for this stuff..... But love every minute of it ......
the wife made a pot of Kona Peaberry this morning ,,,, N I C E coffee , I didn't know we had it in peaberry, I thought it was all gone , but she just picked up a pound last week & surprised me ,I might pass on the don Carlos #3 this morning & go with a Contaband Monte #2 or Partagas series D #4 Bth in short supply in my humidor but with a great cup of coffee you need a great stick with it , & its way to early for a scotch, BUT it is 5 o'clock someplace ! a wee dram of 16 YO Laugavaluin Might make it even better hahaha
#1 grandson has got his destination for Columbia SA & will be leaving before the end of the month as an exchange student ,Going to miss him , but #2 grandson will be driving in Jan. so I will get a lot more time with him then, , he should be a better driver as he isn't distracted as easy as #1 ,BUT our taste in music is different it might be a trouble spot ,,, something I think we can work out .... "NO RAP" & that's it , & as little country as Possible with the exception Of Willie Nelson. Bring on the Rock, jazz, show tunes & classical & everything in between, keep the Noise to a low rumble & I am happy.
the Shop had a good week, But with a SLOW start , Tuesday was DEAD in the water, could have stayed home & did just as good, BUT the rest of the week was above average & built every day , I am going to relax all day today & Monday moring I have a lot to do , the Doc. at 10 AM & the grass when we get home , ,I think its about time to get that job farmed out to a lawn service , the wife is getting to old for this ! hahahaha .hay isn't that what grandsons are for? , I cut my grandmothers grass all the time ...... she made me lunch I cut the grass then went to the pool till it closed ... got a ride home with my Dad & & went to bed, the next day back to the pool ,,, ahhhh yes the days of youth,,,,, when I wasn't working at my grandmother's Bistro I was at the pool or at the river , or riding my bike, playing baseball , basket ball , football or what ever sport season it was , NO TV , No games on the Computer( like today ) , dammm we didn't have color TV when I was a kid , we had 4 stations in Pittsburgh , a CBS , NBC, ABC & public broadcasting, PBS.... No cable, every on had an Antenna on the roof, & if you had one that you could turn by remote control you might be able to get the Youngstown Ohio stations , that showed the same programs as the Pittsburgh stations ... then you were BIG TIME hahaha
I have a sirloin defrosting in a little wet rub, that will be hitting the grill later today along with a few Tons of summer squash , dammm it is growing like weeds , but a tasty weed at that ! ,it will get a little EVOO & some seasonings , & get slapped on the grill ,a little watermelon will fallow & then its back outside for a weeee dram, coffee & a Cigar ! , looks like a BUSY day hahaha ,Enjoy, Vince

God morning it is Sunday Aug.11,2013 a cool sunny morning here in da Burgh, a cloud covered night made it hard to see the shooting stars last night , but maybe to night will be cloud free,
this past week I wouldn't wish on a member of the talaban or AlQida, , , it all started out when one of the cigar distrubiters we deal with charged my personal card for a shop order, & since it was the first of the month I pay all the bills & BINGO , 9 BOUNCED checks @37.50 each, , it was all made right but my wife is so upset that happened, she is afraid to write a check or use the credit card, ( maybe that's not so bad as I think about it ) hahaha , well it got all taken care of but now she cant balance the check book & that has her frustrated , so after dealing with all that DRAMA , a friends house gets broken into & they loose over 100K in art , collectables & jewelry , as well as a black powder Colt revolver that has never been fired , still in MINT condition, all gone , a trip to the local pawn shop turned up a few of the less expencive items , but his Grandfathers gold pocket watch means more to him as a keepsake than the money it was worth, AND to add to the busy week my grandson is leaving for Columbia SA & we had a big going away party for him Saturday. He is an exchange student ,for his last year of High school..... I am going to miss him a lot , I will miss his Monday Night Piano lessons as I went to have a cigar & a weeee dram of Irish whisky with the teachers husband ,but that tradition will not change , Monday night at Toms will still be on the list of things to do , we can listen to his wife play instead of my grandson ,,,it will be a little better hahaha
the Shop is full of cigars from the Las Vegas Show, with more coming every day, I am Running out of room, & the back deck at the shop has a nice frame work & rail system with a lattice top , gives a little shade BUT the sun sets are right in your eyes (depending on your position ) , we have a bunch of tables & chairs & hope it will cut down on the people who don't stay as the 18 seats inside are full . ,,,,,, it has been a BUSY , action filled week capping off a Hostage , swat team suicide , just 5 doors away from the High School , seams like some people just cant handle the booze , Drugs & the want to end it all ,,, so they get all high ,& don't have the GUTS to put the .357 in the mouth , so they get a hostage , & force the swat team to shoot them as they come out the door with an AK47......... no guts, why force a police officer to shot you when you don't have the GUTs to do it yourself!

the cabbage rolls are in the crock pot & should be ready about 4 PM, with all fresh produce coming to the market I have been having a great time cooking this past week, Grilled Veggies , veggie this , & that , noodles pasta made from everything from the garden , & everything is still warm from the sun when you get it , never seeing a fridge, or even a truck, Just pick it & hand deliver it,,,, cant get any better ! & its FREE !!!!!! , share the Bounty, My Garlic is about ready to pick, & the chives have been on every ones table all summer long .Now the tomatoes & summer squash are on my porch every day & I haven't had a Hard bowel movement all week hahahaha ,,,, Summer Roughage ,,,,,, , it is H3ll getting old nothing works the way it did 40/50 years ago ! ,Some of the time a Good Dump is better that a good meal, both make you feel better but the dump makes more room for more good food !
, we started out with a pot of Zim-Bob-A-Way® medium dark roast coffee,, I will be glad when its gone ,,, a bit flat & lack of taste, but the cheese omlet & slab bacon made a nice breakfast & the Kona & Don Carlos #3 will make up for it for sure . Enjoy, Vince

Good morning , it is Sunday aug25,2013 a WONDERFULL day here in da Burgh a blue sky, temp in the mid 70's , low humidity a warm breeze out of the SW , a GREAT day to sit on the back deck with a pot of Kona & a Don Carlos #3, I might even crack open an 18 YO scotch today, haven't had a drop in over a week, last week I was in such discomfort I didn't want a drink, I passed a kidney stone last Thursday, which was my 43rd wedding anniv.,So we got to celebrate in the ER at the local hospital , as I lay on the gurney & a strange lady is inserting a catheter with my wife seated to my right , ahhh yes a 43rd anniv. to remember, a great looking, FEMALE total stranger playing with the family jewels & the wife watching how it s done ,,,,, , well the stone(s) passed & the UTI is being taken care of I hope , with medication & the flow max has opened things up a bit & I am going just fine now , passing a kidney stone is like pissing a razor blade ,,,, dammmmmmmmmmm it makes me shutter just thinking about it ,, so that why no post last Sunday,,, lets get going I have a few things on my mind that I better get down before I forget !
GRANDSON #1 is in Columbia SA doing his Sr. year in HS there, Grandson #2 is enjoying being the only child here at home , we have the new covered back deck at the cigar shop all ready for action, the tables & chairs are out the ferns are all over the place there is solar lighting in all the plants & the bricks for the fireplace have been delivered but the zoning officer hasn't approved the plans yet as we decided to move it from one side of the deck to the other , well it just happens to be 2 different addresses & the building permit needs to be revised, 2 buildings sharing a common wall between the 2 & we have extended the back deck to cover both buildings , but the city said we need a building permit for BOTH addresses , just an other way to get an extra 50 bucks of out cash. , well you cant get anyplace with out the grease the moves the world, it is called CASH , Greenbacks, payola & if you ask me its BULL$HIT..... ,,, if I didn't like the availability, of electric lights & indoor plumbing I would move off the grid but dammm I would miss a lot of BS & have to deal with my wife 24/7 & that is BS I don't need ! hahaha , I have watched a few episodes of mountain men & that is NOT for me , I like my hot & cold running water, a gas fired furnace that I don't need to cut wood to run, the same with the stove ...... & NOTHING they have that I want more than My indoor Plumbing.
Last night just about 9 PM we saw the space station pass over head , it took less than 3 minutes to go across the sky , from tree line to tree line , ZOOM ,,,, faster than a speeding built hahaha .
I plan on a slow relaxed day doing little or nothing , other that making a rack of ribs on the grill today I have nothing but cigars & coffee planned , breakfast was a 7 cheese egg with bacon & garden tomatoes plucked off the vine just before we ate it , the coffee was a Black & Gold Mix from the coffee roaster in New Brighton Pa , nice flavor but my wife likes hers on the thin side , & I want a MUG O MUD , coffee you can chew ! , but the pot of Kona I will be brewing will be a little lighter than the Columbian I brewed last night , it was a THICK WONDERFULL coffee medium dark on the roast , 2.5 ounces of Corse ground coffee 12 ounces of water at 199°F in the press pot for 3.5 minutes......... almost thick enough to chew hahahaha , well I need to get in gear 7 get some things done as I didn't do much of anything last week other that Tick off the wife , but I am so good at that I can do it when I don't feel up to anything else, ..... Good Morning it is Sunday the FIRST day of September 2013 School has started for most of the public schools & the kids at the bus stop all ready are getting on my nerves,,,, the bus gets going at 7:10 & they are at the bus stop before 7AM & they are LOUD, even with the windows closed & the A/C on they wake me up. a few years ago I was all ready up & out the door but now I try to sleep till 8/8:30 before I get up but dammmmmm they are aggravating, I guess getting old means getting grumpy , hahaha , I am turning into my Father !!!
It is HOT , & Humid the temp is 78F & the Humidity is 98% , you walk out side the morning due clings to you , almost to the point you can chew the air ! I will be grilling a nice set of Porterhouse steaks some time today with grilled summer squash & grilled corn on the cob, I hope it rains soon & cools everything off before & stand in front of the HOT grill. Breakfast was a cheese stuffed Crape with a grilled banana & sour cream topping , a pot of Columbian & a sliced peach . The Kona went in the press pot last night in cold water & I will be pressing it soon , & drinking it with out heating it , should be just right to go with the Don Carlos President I have set out for today ,the #3 will be saved for next Sunday, , I have been watching the Don Carlos President get a slight BLUM for about 6 months now & today is the day I turn it into a pile of ash ! , I might even pour a weee dram of 18YO Macallen . Might hahaha, YEP I will !!!
the grandsons are as fine as frog hair, #1 is settling in with his host family in Columbia SA ,the school is a little tuffer than he had expected, the Spanish is much faster than he was used to & he needs to think in Spanish & not translate in his mind, But I am sure he will get it in a few weeks , #2 grandson is loving being an only child , getting all the choirs that he & his brother shared.
High School football started Friday night & sales at the shop showed it , the place was almost empty & sales were off 35% ,it was a HOT & HUMID evening & I guess that after a grulling game sitting in the bleachers every one was to hot & tired to come in for a cigar ! , I guess Friday night sales will be low till HS football is over . Just like last football season , but Sunday sales should make up for it since the Pros play & in the summer we don't have Official hours, some of the guys show up to watch the game But I never go in unless they have a problem. , its nice to trust the customers , they watch each other !
I have a lot to do today, I have a nap to take some time this afternoon, I want to get to the range & shoot the .357 I just got back from the gunsmith, , had lighter springs put in it, the double action pull is now lighter than my old single action pull was , & the single action is wonderful for targets, cant wait to try it out .,BUT the Humidity is a KILLER , I get mist on my glasses when I walk out the door. ,maybe the target practice will get put off till Monday ... the Nap sounds great ! & the Don Carlos is calling so I better get going & turn the A/C on in n the Qtr. Deck, give it an hour or so to Cool down & get rid of all the humidity THEN I can sit , relax, & get into the Sunday morning smoke, But with the time it is Now, it will end up a Sunday afternoon smoke !
 
Good morning , it is Sunday Sept. 8 2013, a warm muggy day here in da Burgh, & since we are in the Pittsburgh area, & about 20 miles NW of the Mustard bowl ( Hinze Field with all the yellow seats) , & the 6 time super bowl champions will be kicking it off in a few hours, I plan on being at the gun range as I am hoping every one else will be watching the game , I feel its time to send some hallow points down range & try out the new ear plugs ,this getting old BS is getting on my nerves , gone are the days of the steady hands & good eyesight, now I need to practice what used to be natural. 40 years ago I would just stand toe to toe & settle it , now I need to get closer just to see who it is hahahaha , after the cataracts were removed from both eyes, & the lens implants put in , I am still in trifocals to see stuff, , , dammmm its tuff getting OLD, but I guess it beats NOT getting any older,,,,,,
, I have some Chicken in a marinade right now , it will go on the grill some time later this afternoon, along with a baked potato with sliced onions & all wrapped in bacon, , it should be a nice Sunday meal for the wife & my self, , she got her beef fix last night , as well as her pork fix & chicken fix, & her sweet tooth was taken care of all at the same stop, ,,, Pigs 2 Peaches, a local BBQ joint was the seen of the all out attack of the Q, , we got the combo plate , a little of EVERYTHING , Brisket ,pulled pork, pulled chicken, ribs, baked beans, green beans with bacon, biscuts & corn bread & for dessert, Peach Cobler , Peach bread pudding with a bourbon sauce, the OMG peanut butter & chocolate Cupcakes, I didn't have room for the Slaw, or dessert, so we brought the dessert home & went at it later in the evening ,,,,,,, KICKED MY @$$ GOOD
Not much else has been going on , the shop is holding its own, the grandsons are back in school, But # 1 grandson is in Columbia SA as an exchange student, he will be there till the end of May or maybe till August, his Student Visa expires on Aug 20, & who knows he might see if he can stay & go to a University there , he seams to enjoy it there slipping from Spanish to English when he is on Skype with out missing a beat,
#2 grandson is getting to pick up all the choirs they shared, he is not a happy camper hahaha , but the Big dog is all his to play with now & he said that makes up for it , but how much can a 10 year old 204 pound mastiff play ?
I did not make it to the Grange Fair this year , less than 3 miles from the fair grounds, I could smell it & hear it , but I did see the fireworks , but I missed out on the PIES , they make a raisin cream pie that will knock your soxs off, the Coconut custard is great & the peanut butter cream pie is just short of being in heaven, the fruit pies are fantastic also, the black berry is killer as well as the apple, peach & cherry, the only one I missed last year was the ruebarb , & how that happened I have no idea, but I missed them all this year, OH well , maybe next year hahahaha
time to put on the pot of Kona, & fire up a Don Carlos #3

I hope you had a better time at the range than I did watching the Steelers lose like they did. Those pies sound great to me also. Maybe we'll visit there next year in late August to early September to go to the festival. I'm wanting to go in early to mid August to catch the Little League World Series in Williamsport though. I missed visiting with you again when I was there in late June to early July but I did get to stop by the shop with my Dad and have a smoke in the evening. I guess I just missed you.

I try to get out of the shop by 6 on T,W & T , Friday I am there till 10:30/11 or later ... but I try to get out asap ! it is a long day , I open the doors at noon or before , some times as early as 11 , depends on what I am doing & if I have to $hit or not hahaha , that takes time !
Sorry I missed you, the guy working should have called me & I might have been able to come back . next time tell the guy to call me if I mam not there ! Enjoy, Vince

Good morning it is Sunday 9/15/13 a COOOOOOOL bright day here in da Burgh, went into the lower 40's last night & I was a weeeee bit chilly when I got up this morning looking for a high in the low 70's today maybe only high 60's , what ever it is I will take it , glad the HOT Humid weather is past for an other year, now the leaves are going to fall & make the yard a blanket of color, & my wife will be all over it to clean it up, dammm how much more of her OCD can take ? hahahaha , we took down all the "Summer " decorations yesterday , changed the welcome mats at both doors & changed the garden flags to the Fall Motive , I told her it was still Summer till the 21st but she said she had to do it NOW....... so we did it NOW..... I wish she was as exact on timing with other things .......
With the older grandson in Cucuta Columbia & the younger one getting stuck with all the family choirs I haven't been seeing much of them , But he will be driving soon & I plan on getting a LOT of cigar time in the passenger seat with my Brand new driver , taking me places . Since it is a cool day my wife wanted the oven fired up today 7 a beef roast is all ready in , , Low & slow braise , a tender Juicy roast ,
the shop has had some strange days this past week , one day I had average sales but I only took in 50 bucks in cash , all the rest was credit cards & the next day , No credit cards at all..... Go figure .
Friday we had the sales rep from Crossfire cigars in the shop, it was a good night a bit on the cool side but we all had a great time insulting the rep ! , & he gave back just as well,,,,,,,, it was a good time !
our local Cyber school has hit the news as the founder is under enditement for using taxpayer money to pad his own pockets, , & the county Brass , local state reps & even our congressman were given political donations from some Dummy company set up to make pay outs & pay a board of directors who did nothing & the good old tax payers funded it all, @$$hole's all .
, With all the trouble in the middle east , I think we as a nation should be energy independent, we Sell all the north slope oil from the Alaska pipe line & don't use a drop here in the USA , we import oil from the middle east & fund the very people we are fighting against ....... the Dept. of Energy is a BLOATED government agency that has never lived up to its duty to the American people ,to become energy independent , its time to shrink the foot print of the federal state & local government & get back to the town meetings & a vote of the people, NO PAY OR RETIREMENT for elected offices. , all of them should be part time & no frills , you help the country as you would a friend , & the rewards are knowing you did what was right, not to line you own pockets, ,,,, I miss the simple times of the of childhood, not knowing of the BS our parents were going through ,it is H3LL getting old but it beats the alternative ........ time to fire up the pot of Kona and light up the Don Carlos #3

When I was there a girl was working and she didn't know much. She was nice and polite but had zero cigar knowledge, which is understandable. She said it was her first day.

I'll be sure to come in when I'm up there again while your there and no I won't have them call you to come just to see me. When your off, you're off. I won't mess with that.

that girl was there to clean & the regular guy didn't show up, , she lasted 3 days , cute but not so informed about cigars .
 
God Morning , it is Sunday9/22/13 a cool but sunny day here in da Burgh a high of just 62° F is the predicted high today, so it looks like I will be in the Qtr.Deck & not on the back deck watching the traffic go by .... we got our Flu shots yesterday & I feel like a bag of Dog $hit this morning , my arm hurts, &my eyes are puffy & my nose is running, just a reaction to the shot I hope, But life goes on & on & soon it will end, but not to soon !,
We got to Skype with our Grandson in Columbia yesterday, he is enjoying his stay & is not ready to come home any time soon, he has a maid & a driver to take him to school, & is enjoying the country and everything it has to offer.
#2 Grandson is enjoying being an only child for a while, but now he has all the stuff to do that they shared. he is not a happy camper about that!
I had planned on going to the pistol range this morning , but I just don't feel like I can take the punishment of the noise right now, MY head is hurting & I need to wipe my eyes every few minutes , so I am going to stay home & maybe pass on a day of cigars also,,,,, dammm did I say that, I must not be feeling all that well with out realizing it , my mind is in a passive non thinking mode ( like always ) &I never know what I am about to say when I sit down to type this BS every Sunday (God willing ) from a few years now ) about 10 years I think , I would need to go back to the first page of this long list & I think it was about 2003 we started on this merry go round ,,, lots of BS has hit the screen in all those years hahaha , new people stop in & comment , some stick around , some never say anything just read, & some pass over it week after week & never stop to see what the H3LL is going on !
the shop was a busy place on Thursday & Friday it was a ghost town.... dammm high school foot ball, , every one was at the game , But I am OK with that, as it gets closer to winter we will pick up & fill the place with Smoke !
right now I have a sirloin in the fridge sitting in a bath of oil , herbs & lemon juice , it will get tossed on the grill later today along with a few sliced potatoes & onions & I think we will have fresh glazed donuts for desert,,,, if I feel like glazing them ...... if not they will be plain ! , maybe a little jelly on top, who knows what I might feel like later today,
OH DAMMM I almost for got ,,,, last Monday I was coming home from My buddy Toms place when I had to sneeze, . it was a fast BIG body jerking sneeze, I hit the travel mug into the steering wheel & knocked the top off , Dumping Not all that hot (thank GOD ) into my lap & all over the seat, , dammmmm that is an uncomfortable drive all wet & with out coffee ! glad its only a few miles from home !
Friday morning I had a laser treatment on my left eye, I had a secondary cataract on the implant I got in 2009 , 2 weeks & I get zapped again but this time in the right eye, ,,,, dammmm its tuff getting old, but it beats the idea of not getting any older & just ending up in a pine box !
I think it is time for me to get off the computer & get dressed , maybe do some thing about this chilled feeling & puffy eyes, I think a good dram of single malt might be in order, I am not sure about the cigar right now , but a snifter of scotch & some Jazz might make me feel a little better .
