Good Morning , it is Sunday, the 21st day of April 2013 & a Happy 62nd. Birthday to my buddy Mike.... after a a day of 80F+ last Thursday we had SNOW yesterday & a heavy frost last last night ,, will some one PLEASE shoot the groundhog or at lest get a letter of apology from the rodent !! ,,,,, with all the rain we have had the grass is getting green & needs to be cut all ready ,,, way to early in the season to start , I need to get all the branches & twigs that have been wind blown in the yard out asap ,I have a landscaping program planned for the outside of the Qtr.Deck this year ,it is looking a bit worn & tired & it needs some TLC & maybe a bit of paint , but that will be NEXT year ,, my wife is wanting the windows washed BUT I say NO WAY ,they have a nice yellow brown stain to them & filter out a lot of light , they stay UNWASHED ,, as soon as I feel up to it , I will be cleaning out all the STUFF that has accumilated over the winter , , get everything out & run the vacume , clean the exaust fan . that should be enough cleaning till next spring hahahaha
I have a slab of ribs defrosting in the kitchen sink & they will be getting some heat later on today , quick bath in some Boiling salted water, a medium smoke with apple wood chips & then a bit of direct heat & some sauce on the side, a few grilled yams & that is todays Sunday evening meal, lunch will be skipped for sure today I got up late & we had cheese filled blintz's with sour cream on the side & right now I am Full......... the wife is Grinding the kona for todays pot ... we had a pot of Indian Monsoon with breakfast, I think it was roasted a bit to dark & we were tasting the roast & not the coffee as much but the wife liked it & since she is the one I cook for all was well, this Kona is a LIGHT roast ,the aroma is wonderful & I am all ready with a Don Carlos #3
we got some great news & some sad news & it is the same news, , My oldest grandson is going to Spain for his Sr. Year as an exchnge student ..... great for him , bad for me & his piano teacher , his mother is all beside herself her BABY is leaving , his little brother isnt all that happy as he will be picking up all the chores that need done .this will free up my monday nights & thats some thing I look fwd t all week, a driving lesson for him & piano lesson for him , time for a cigar & a whisky with his teachers husband & since the grandson is driving I can have more than ONE whisky..... he isnt leaving till some time in August so we have some tme to make plans for My care & recreation on Monday nights when he leaves hahahaha ,Number 2 grandson has his art lessons on monday & I do drop him off , but it is only 2 blocks from home & there is no place to smoke in the winter or the rain at his art lesson , , there is a tavern close , but He cant drive for an other year ( he will be 16 in Jan ) so I geuss I am back to square one & will need to rethink this OLD AGE BS & having the time of my life with the grandsons,,, they might not like it right now , BUT I enjoyed spending time with my grandfathers, & uncles ,,, learned a lot about fishing, Hunting, cars , Brick laying & archery,, yes I learned I didnt want to be a brick layer or stone mason , , but I had a great time shooting the .22 ,shotguns , the Bow & arrow. a little golf but I never did enjoy that all that much , 7 when I quit golfing I NEVER went back . Putt Putt golf with the kids is as close as i ever got .
we got the patio furniture out last weekend & I did get some time out there this past week & enjoyed the new windchimes adding some Base notes to the stuff we all ready have up, ,the Stink bug traps are bated & out , the spray has been applyed to the deck , railings & arround the windows & the eves ,I even did the backs of all the chairs this year ......... There are a few new solor lights to go out a new wind spinner t add to the wind chimes . I told my wife that we need to cut back a bit as it is getting to look a little Busy in the back yard &before we end up looking like some of the places you see on TV, it is time to scale back a bit hahaha
Thank God Both cars are running fine , I am enjoying the Ford Escape , the 25.1 MPG back & forth to work is wonderful..... she is getting 20.2 on the Mercury Milan with a V6 I have a 4 cyl in the Escape & it has plenty of power for what I will do with it, I dont see any towing in my future, unless it is me getting towed .......
On Tuesday we are having the owner of Don Gonzalez Cigars in the shop with his master roller Pablo Ramaly, he will be there 3 PM till 9 Pm & will be in the Pittsburgh area all week ,I am not sure of his other stops .
The Cigar crawl is the third weekend of May , check it out at
www.cigarcrawl.com
this will be our 15th year ,,, lots of cigars have been smoked & lots of booze has been consumed, a GREAT number of new friends have been made & some have been forgotten over the years , a lot of new faces every year are showing up as the word is spreading & every one wants to share with there buddys back home & now we have had a few INTERNATIONAL guests come to the grand old USA just to smoke cigars with us ,,,, damm good feeling to know we are getting know internationality , I think the internet hads a lot to do with it as you can be any palce in the world & read & see what is going on some place else, I like to think my 4 years on 1460 WMBA & 1230 WBVP as a morning talk show host had a bit to do with it , but it is all word Of mouth that has promoted it to be International in scope.
the water is boiling, the kona is in the press pot & it is time to get out to the qtr.deck & fire up the Don Carlos #3
Enjoy, Vince

Good morning, it is Sunday the 28th of April2013 a wet cool day here in Da Burgh, after a 78F sunny day yesterday with a great deal of it spent in the car I was able to get a bit of sun & a lot of cigars , but with all the time on the road, NO whisky, dammmmm I might spill it , i plan on making up for it tonight !
it was a good week at the shop , we had Pedro Gonzalezes the owner of Don Gonzalezes cigars&he brought a roller with him & we had a fine evening , I cant get over how fast these Guys roll a PERFECT cigar every time , I get 1 done with a pucker in the cap & he has 5 or 6 done with out any flaws,,, I guess I need to practice a LOT more , Iguess if I had started to roll cigars when I was a kid, instead of cooking, I would be better at it now.
the local Market had a BIG sale on a TON of different things & we stocked up Big time , so today I have a pork loin in the oven with Yams & root veggies , & some sweet peppers ,I had grilled pork chops yesterday & a roast today, , lets say I havent been keeping kosher wth my love for Bacon & all things Pork,,, ahhh yes the devine swine ,my wife LOVES beef, & so do I , but a hunk of BBQ pork, baked beans ,slaw &
cornbread topped off with a great Beer , HEAVEN, But I have trouble with the carbonation in the beer & all soft drinks so I will pass on the beer & have a glass of Tea, or Iced coffee. with the weather fighting me today I was going to do the pork on the grill outside but I dont want to fight the rain so it is in the oven !
Breakfast was cheese filled Crapes, with a little Frog Jam on the side, ( FROG= FIG ,Raspberry, Orange & Ginger)the wife had Sour cream on hers . different strokes for different folks ,,,,,, Nothing new with the grandsons, just living life to the best they can getting up & going to School every day , learning anything ,,,, I wonder about that ! hahaha, well after spending the day in the car, a trip to Pittsburghs Strip district, ( named after the strip of land next to the river & Polish Hill, where most of the Wholesale produce, fish & meat comes into the city, & a lot of Shops grabbing on to the floods of consumers , & there is a Cigar shop right in the middle of it all & I was there for a few hours, I need to get out of the shop & be a customer for a bit, so I head to Leaf & Bean in the strip, or Slippery Rock cigars , & sit back & relax, well yesterday it was Jim's turn to put up with me, YOUR lucky Joe I went south instead of North !! , well last night the wife wanted to go for a ride so we jumped in the Escape , popped open the sun/ moon roof, & I fired up a a OLD Davidoff Dbl.R ,we left the house at 8:30pm, heading tward Youngstown Ohio, o a 2 lane blacktop Byway not a Highway, avoiding traffic & red lights the back country roads I grew up with, ,we got home just before 11PM & I dropped the Butt of the Dbl R still burning,in the ashtry on the back deck , it was a LONG some to start with but it lasteed ALLL evening , a slow easy draw & one relight , it was a Bit more expencive than my regular smokes But hey every now & then I do fire up a wallet crusher , some are great, some are Fine, some are good & some down right SUCK, but a lot of lower priced sticks are just as good if not better than some , My taste buds love the Bahia Maduro & they are L O W priced but I also like the Casa Fuente BUT I dont think I would smoke as many Casa's even if I had all the money I would need to do that , I enjoy the Vaieity ,I love Finding a Bouteque brand that is outstanding, I love to dig in the bargin bin looking for some thing O L D , that has been out of production for years, some times you know WHY they went out & some times 10 years of age on a Dog rocket makes it a fine smoke or at lest good. Jose Llopez trumpeta is a fine example, out of the production lines for many years I "found" a box or 2 jammed in the back of a humidor in da Burgh , , took them to the counter & the guy didnt have them in the computer , or in his catalog... hummm how much will you ofer for themmmmm they might be bad, lets open then & check, well I was ready to gamble & said I will buy them sight unseen still sealed at ONE BUCK a stick, he said Sold ! , dammm I wish I could find a few more boxes of them NOT a Monte #2 or a Partagas series D #4 But a great smoke for a BUCK. ,,, almost as good as Free cigars !
I am heading out to the kitchen to get the Sunday Kona & Don Carlos #3 ready, out to the Qtr.Deck & TURN on the Heat , it is 51F here & raining , ,I need a break !!!!!
Enjoy, Vince

Sorry No news from the Burgh this week, I will be out of town, see you all next week, Enjoy, Vince

That's Vintage Vince. He really knows how to start the day. One of my favorite coffees, and one of the world's best Non-Cuban cigars.

God morning , ir is Sunday the 12th day of May 2013 a cool cloudy day here in da Burgh right now it is only 48°F with a brisk 12 MPH wind out of the NW , not the day you would be in shorts & a T-Shirt , sitting on the deck with a cigar, s I will be heading to the Qtr.Deck a mug of Sunday morning Kona & a Don Carlos #3 ,Last week I was out of town & a weeeee bit busy last Sunday to post anything, last Saturday I drove to the Home of the Yingling Brewery the oldest brewery in the nation , but it was not for a tour but for a Blast from the past Meeting, , years ago I was verrrrry active in the Jaycees holding many local & state offices , & last Saturday I was Honored By the Jaycees International as Jaycee International Senator #72295 ........ for all the work I did & all the work I will be doing for this Orginazition, to be named a Senator is the Highest Honor that the Jaycees can bestow a member & I was suprised & humbled to recieve it , , did you ever try to give an exception speach , drunk & not ramble ,,,, well I have no idea how I did hahaha !, so you all can just call me Senator...
Next weekend will be an out of towner again as the Western Pa Cigar CRWAL will be held for year #15 , a great amount of booze will be consumed a lot of cigars will be smoked & a great deal of money will be spent on Cigars & Booze ,,,, 50 cigar smokers on a Bus , with bar & restroom , visiting 5 cigar shops having lunch & dinner at Cigar friendly establishments ,,,, I will be leaving Friday about noon & returning sunday about 6 Pm , sleeping in on Monday & getting a second wind I hope some time before I need to pick up my grandson for his piano lesson. Glad he will be doing Most of the driving !
OHHH Dammm I almost forgot, Happy Mothers day to all you MOTHERS out there , I have the Hunk O Beef in the oven for the boss, her favorite Sunday meal, ,as the world spins & circles the sun , she wants a chuck roast ,,,, not a prime rib or a Porterhouse, she wants a hunk O beef , with onions, potatos, garlic, carrots & celery , she never eats the carrots or the celery but they need to be cooked with the beef ....... , I like them so its no loss . Should be ready about 4 PM.
I am ready to get out to the Qtr.deck & fire up the #3 , sip a mug of Coffee & might get myself a weeee dram just to get ready for next weekend hahaha, see you all in 2 weeks Enjoy, Vince

heading out for the Cigar crawl this weekend, leaving home about 1PM friday, will be back some time Sunday evening, looks like No sunday morning post again this week, ,,, If I am sober enough to type I might try to post Sunday Night, But better to look out for me NEXT sunday , Enjoy, Vince

the 15th western Pa cigar crawl is OVER, , I will make it to work on Tuesday ,,,,,, like I need to be arround MORE guys smoking cigars ,,, 50 guys on a Bus all with cigars going,,,,, 6am a wee dram before getting on the bus,,,,, and one at 6:30 , a few more before we took off, ,,,, glad i had a fair breakfast, , ate a good lunch, & supper, T O N S of cigars, lots of booze, & had a great time , cant wait till next year & do it AGAIN

OK , I survived the week of detox, with a few more cigars & a little more whisky & tapered off down to No whisky at breakfast all week, to no whisky at all yesterday ,,,,, & so far I am good today, I was very busy this morning, , after breakfast (just bacon & eggs ) I needed to get out & spray for the stink bugs , Empty the traps & rebate them, we had 3 in the house last night, so it is time to go after the stinky little SOB'S,with 4 traps outside & all the windows doors & decks all sprayed , you wonder how they get in , dammmmm Bugs , & it is Sunday 5/26/13 a cool bright sunney AFTERNOON here in Da Burgh
I have a rack of ribs in the cooker , will be grilling some corn & apples later today should be ready some time after 4 PM .
the weather here in da Burgh is a little like shooting a Blunderbuss loaded with chain & nails , shooting at a weather target with all the types of weather on the chart, well you shoot & every 10 minutes or so the weather moves to the next block, we ran the A/C during the day & got FROST over night, ,,, heat stroke one day frost bight the next ,

I have a HIGHWAY SAFTY ALLERT.......... WARNING ........ My grandson passed his drivers test & is out & about on the streets north west of Pittsburgh in & near the city of Ambridge Pa ... take action if needed , be on the look out for a Black Caddy CTS or a dark red Armada ,with a teenager behind the wheel....... you have been warned !!!!

you can go to www.cigarcrawl.com & check out the photos of this years whisky orgy & smoke fest,, it was a BLAST ,,,, no sleep, lots of fun, great food , wonderful people & an ample supply of booze, tons of Cigars & a GREAT time, this year the farthest guy to travel came all the way from Japan, 27 hours of flying time including a layover here & there, seams like there are No direct flights from Pittsburgh to Japan., Now he needs to go back but it will be in a few stops between here & there a visit to a few of the tourist traps south of the Mason -Dixon line , maybe a few cigars & some 'Shine will be on his Bucket list before he heads home.
I need to get off my @$$ & get moving , I have a few more things to get done before I can fire up the press pot of Kona & get some heat on the Don Carlos #3 & a whole bunch of un-banded "specials" I picked up on the crawl ......... Enjoy, Vince

B]Good Morning it is Sunday June 2,2013 a warm muggy day here in da Burgh , I am starting to get back in the old rythem , & have been digging into the cigars I picked up on the crawl & get into some GREAT smokes & a few not so great, BUT it is the thrill of the hunt for that Perfect smoke & I am impressed with the stuff I got from the house of Emilio a Boutique distributer & makers a few of his own, s far I haven't found a dog rocket in the mix, I am finding that the off the wall SMALL companys have great smokes , so what if you never heard of them, I remove the band asap , you don't smoke the band, I don't flaunt what I am smoking ,,, so what if I have a Davidoff dbl R , or a Cohiba Behenke or if its a Marsh Wheeling ,,, its a CIGAR & we are B/SOTL. f a long time I thought the more it costs the better it will be,,,,, NO WAY, I ENJOY a 2 buck stick from the bargin bin as much as the Opus X I have with a 25 year old scotch , it depends on who you are with , & what is happening when your enjoying the cigar ,the conversation & the company are the key to a great time , & some times being alone with your thoughts is what the Doc ordered, I have spent many hours on the back deck watching the birds & clouds or listening to the rain on the awning with my eyes closed & a fine cigar in my hand, STOP & SMELL THE ROSES my friends this is as go as it gets ... Enjoy your life ,, you only get ONE.
Dammm that sounds a bit deep, almost like a guy who just came from the Doc with a bad report card ,,,, well I have out lived a few of my friends & family, & I am not getting any younger by any means , lived through a few close calls, got to retire a few times so far, saw grandson get his drivers licence & I will be teaching the #2 grandson to drive next January, GOD help us all.
A buddy just got back from Russia , he is a missionary & he brought back a few little trinkets like a FANTASTIC Vodka , all in Russian & I have no idea what it said, but dammmm this stuff was so Smooooooooth, ,I am not a big vodka drinker, as I like my drinks to have FLAVOR & cut the smoke or enhance the smoke &/or the coffee, I am not a slam the shot down the tube to get the effect, well this Vodka was an elixir that was the best vodka I have ever had, , straight in the glass, the bottle was packed in ice , but no ice in the glass, a fine sip, a puff of the cigar & dammmmm it was fine ,I don't think it will be taking center stage over a scotch any time soon , but it is an alternative to gin .
I have the Sunday hunk O beef in the oven & it should be ready about 4PM as THATS what time the boss wants to eat! , breakfast this fine morning was a grilled English muffin ,sliced tomato, bacon, egg & Swiss cheese sandwich & the coffee was a different style for a change, the wife found a Congo estate coffee that has a SLIGHT natural hazelnut quality to the aftertaste, not present in the aroma or the mouth, but only after swallowing it , weird but a great cup o Joe, I will be enjoying this a few more cups & when the pot is empty it will be time for the Sunday morning Don Carlos & Kona,, but as I remember I was given a Cigar from Russia that was made on an Island about 90 miles from Fla., I think I might give it a once over & see what the KGB is smoking !!!
not a whole lot going on here in da burgh, the Pirates are looking like this just might be the first time in 21 years they win more games than they loose, the Pens, are one game down in the playoffs & one of the Steelers got stabbed in the arm & stomach when a few @$$holes tried take his SUV from him ,but he didn't have the keys & they we so dumb they didn't know how to hot wire it..... dammmm even the thugs are getting stupid !!!
That's about all I have right now, time to make the press pot of Kona & fire up that last gift cigar , who knows it might explode or et me high , , I just hope its a good smoke, Enjoy, Vince

Good morning , it is Sunday the 9th day of June ,2013acool over cast day here in da Burgh Not much going on here in da burgh ,just a week of the Same OLD BS , get up , go to the shop, come home, go to bed, next day , do it again, now there are the little distractions , like a cigar here & there a weeee dram &a pot of coffee, ,& last night , my little brothers youngest son turned 21 ,,,, yes a few drams passed the lips last night but only one cigar , I lit a Fuente Canonie a 8.5 x 52 maduro that I sparked up at 8 PM , & at 10;50 PM I still had a 2.5 inch butt ,,,,,, saved it for God knows what reason, kind of short to relight, & it sat outside all night , But it was so dammm good last night, ,but in the light of day I think I will toss it out.
My mother in law broke her hip last week, she is recovering but doesn't understand what is going on , she has been in a nursing home for 8 years I think, has no idea who anyone is ,in diapers, dammmm I hope my wife doesn't get like that,, my mother in law is the youngest of 13 & all her brothers & sisters ended up with Altzhimers ,so if it is heredity I get to go through it all over again in a few years , she is a little forgetful now , but nothing like her mother , but her mother started to show signs about 12 years ago, & went down hill fast, I tease her telling her she can share a room with her mother at the nursing home & I can move in with our daughter & her family ( never going to happen), I will go to a retirement home , have my own place , smoke cigars sip scotch & drink coffee in the living room, in my underware, , if I live at her place , no cigars, & pants are a must,,,, dam ,I guess I will just stay here till the undertaker comes to get me .
well lets have a break form the BS & lets get on with the day, breakfast was grilled Tofu with apples & bananas a nice glaze of Chipolte Tobasco &the coffee was a great pot of Congo something or other , what ever the stuff is , it is GREAT coffee, rich full & a smoooooother coffee I have never had . & it enhances a cigar & a weee dram also, , But since today is Sunday , the press pot is out, the Kona is at the ready & the Don Carlos #3 is waiting ........ all in good time my friends , I need this therapy session every Sunday & I am not ready to get on with my day.
I have 2 NY strip steaks in a plastic bag with a little olive oil, herbs & a tiny wedge of cheese & a splash of red wine . They will get a side of Grilled Vadillia Onions, roasted corn on the cob & baked apples for desert . That ought to keep the boss happy , she is getting her Sunday Beef & I get to make some thing other than a POT ROAST
it is almost 11AM here in da burgh &I have a lot to do today , , yep a lot of cigars to smoke coffee to drink & a meal to grill , time to get started.... Enjoy, Vince

God morning , it is Sunday 6/16/13 , Fathers day, but if today is fathers day , mothers day SHOULD be 9 months from today, , , , I guess when they were figuring out the holidays with the greating's card company some one didn't do the math right ! , so happy Fathers day to all you Fathers out there....
I got a nice letter & certificate from the local YMCA , nominated by my daughter for being a Good Dad, so now I need to get a frame & hang it in the Qtr.Deck, right next to my Jaycee International Senatorship. She was 40 last December but she is still Daddys little girl.
It is a cool foggy morning here in da Burgh 66°F & the PORK Loin is on the smoker , yes PORK for fathers day , not the Hunk O cow that my wife wants ever Sunday , yams in the smoker along with onions, garlic, carrots, Celery , a few herbs & a little chicken stock on the hickory chips , cold beer in the fridge, & it should be done about 3:30 /4 PM
before I got to make breakfast this morning I found a box on the chair , a few sampler packs of Cigars waiting for me , from My wife , the Ashton Cabinet will supersede the Don Carlos #3 this fine Sunday morning, & the DC#3 will get bumped to second place in todays rotation, fallowed by blind eye pull from the travel humidor, it needs restocked & water levels checked , so I will open it , close my eyes & feel for what ever I find will be the next stick.
We had a good week at the shop , I shipped a few boxes out of the county & since our sales tax is 1% lower here than where they were shipped on 180 cigars he saved $2.00 in tax but spent $12.00 in shipping,,,,, "SMART" hahahaha that should get me a few customers., he could have spent the 12 bucks on gas, picked up the cigars , & sat in the lounge & B.S. for a few hours..... & maybe bought a few more sticks when he was there,, I am always looking how to sell just one more box of cigars a week, the more I sell the lower the cost per cigars it costs me to smoke what ever I want hahaha , gotta look out for old number one ! Time to pour the Kona & light up the Ashton Cabinet Torp.
Enjoy, Vince

God morning it is a H O T humid day here in da Burgh all ready in the mid 80's & heading for the low 90's & the humidity is at 67% , so I will be spending most of the day comfortably in the Qtr. Deck, the A/C is on & I am waiting for it to cool off the Ribs are ready to go & the corn on the cob will be getting a long cool soak before they go on the grill with the peach cobbler to get that "smoky" flavor, the boss wanted the hunk O beef, but its just to hot to fire up the oven & I needed to make room in the freezer so the Ribs came out & that's the end of her argument, I get a win Finally !!! BUT I know I will pay for it in the end .
I made her a nice breakfast this morning , of fresh OJ, a cheese blintz grilled in butter& topped with Sour cream & orange zest, her comment was where is the eggs & bacon? Nothing like starting out the day with her...... 43 years this August loving every minute of it !
Sure I make fun of our relationship but it is a FUN time here ,, after 43 years you get used to the Abuse ! , That works both ways hahaha
Yesterday was the 11t. Anniv. for my daughter & her husband , I am sure they are feeing the effects this morning I found a photo of the big day ,every one was in t shirts & shorts, her kids & his kids & dammmmm we were all smaller, younger & better looking back then ! well I was still a lot larger back then , that was before the gastric By pass, I still have my Father of the bride T Shirt some place .
the shop did well this past week, I had a banner day on Friday , with all the golf outings & weddings the demand was high this past week , & it was about time !!! we did get a few orders in via the phone & internet , since we don't have an active web site just a face book page that I never pay much attention to , unless you call the shop on the Land line (724)774-5166, I never get the order, & have your Visa or master card ready I don't take discover or American Express.... my price ,,,, dammm I have no idea, , sure you can get the cigars some places cheaper , but coming into King Beaver Cigars you get insulted by EVERYONE , staff & customers alike , & on mail order we include the hostile vibes from the shop at no extra cost, so even if you pay a little or a lot more for the same cigars you get the Hostile Vibes tossed in as a No cost Bonus ! hahaha
Last night was a full moon a Super moon of sorts, supposed to be 30% brighter & some other % closer than a regular full moon But I didn't see any difference at all , I can get drunk & howl at the moon no matter if its full, or not .last night it was cool & refreshing after 11PM & I sat out on the back deck with a cigar , a mug of coffee & a snifter of Glen something or other ,,,,a highland single malt, its to warm for an Islay malt ,,, it was a nice QUIET night as the Boss was inside watching TV , the only sounds were the traffic the wind chimes & the creaking of the rocking chair & an belch here & there,,,,
The Guy who owned the farm next to me has sold everything & retired, the Cows are all gone & big ole Angus McStudd is gone to the Butcher, but his frozen sperm will be fathering a few more generations of champion angus cows & bulls, what is going to happen to the pasture next to me is all up in the air, for over 35 years all that has been beside me was the Cow pasture ,,,,, I HOPE they don't build homes there , it is so nice having NOTHING there to tick me off, , I know what ever happened there it would be Quiet, Now who knows what will go on,,,,, I might be moving to a retirement High rise if we get a shopping mall ,dammmm progress,,,,, I would have loved to have lived back when you saw smoke from some one's campfire it was time for you to move on.... as I get older I find I get angry at stupid people, as a younger man I laughed, at stupid stuff, now my reactions are different & ask them what do you have between your ears, $HIT for brains?
Dammm I am a cranky old man today I need to get out to the Qtr, deck fire up the Don Carlos #3 , sip a nice big mug or 2 of Kona & have a wee dram.
Enjoy, Vince

God Morning , it is Sunday June 30,2013 a warm wet cloud covered day here in Da Burgh, we have had Rain the past 5 days in a row, with the same prediction for the entire week, the Yard is getting to look like the cow pasture next door & since the cows are gone the field is over grown & looking wild with a "back to nature" look about it .I miss watching the young ones bounce around & playing , BUT I don't miss the odder , depending on the way the wind was blowing ,at times it was a little tuff sitting on the back deck with a Great cigar , , so when the wind was wrong I passed on the good stuff & had a dog rocket to match the smell from the field !!!!!
Breakfast this morning was a few cheese blintzes & a grilled banana , all topped with sour cream & a pot of Sumatra dark roast coffee( the Kona will go in the press pot after I finish this posting ) the A/C is going on in the Qtr.Deck as it is HHH, hazy, hot & humid .
I have the strip steaks in a marinade of EVOO, soy, red wine , crushed garlic, crushed ginger ,bell peppers, & hot peppers & a bit of parsley, & who knows what ever fell out of the spice locker this morning ! I will be grilling some corn on the cob , in its husks, ,making a small salad with fresh greens out of the garden & If I feel like it I might core a few apples & add a pat of butter, a stick of cinnamon & a few grates of fresh nutmeg, a sprinkle of sugar & wrap it all in foil & toss it on the grill , a crustless baked apple ,I have some black cherry's , & I might add a few of them to each apple when I get them ready for the grill. Sounds like a plan.
Last night we went to the fire works display on the Ohio river ,between Rochester, Beaver & Monaca ,the show was FANTASTIC, a 20 minute extravaganza of color & SOUNDS,I think it loosened a few filling's !!! , ONE thing I wonder about is WHY people bring their dogs to a fireworks show? , some of the dogs freak out , some just want to hump the next dog, some want to fight , ,,,, I understand people love them , I loved my dogs when I was a kid , But now I don't want to clean up after any animal, No cats, no dogs, no birds, they all $hit & unless they clean up there own mess I don't want them. Sure I play with the dog down the street, & I feed my daughters Horse that she tells me is a dog , a 204 pound drooling machine that takes up the entire couch, answers to the sound of the can opening or a faint wiff of anything that resembles food ,he is getting old with an average life span of 10 to 12 years for a Mastive, he is all ready 12 & showing signs of old age, , the joints just don't work as well as they did when he was a Pup, & I think his hearing is going to some extent ,,, when I slam the front gate he used to bark & come to see who & what was going on , but now he just lays on the floor & waits to see who will come in .
The grandsons are getting on with summer, both are taking classes at the cyber school over the summer 7 the older one will be heading for Columbia S.A. for the school year , he is going to be an Exchange student for his Sr. year, a great oppertunity for him getting to live in Columbia for a year , but my Sr. Year was a great time as far as I can remember ........ he might have a great time & I hope he will as long as I don't become a great grandfather when he is gone hahaha .
I have been smoking some great cigars the past few days , sort of digging into the depths of the humidors & pulling out some grand Old sticks , last night it was a 12 year old Padron maduro , a toro size , watching the fire works , puffing on the cigar & sipping a little coffee it was a great night, ,I also "found" a Hemmingway short story tucked between a few contraband Monte #2's ,,,, dammmmmm good , I have no idea how long it has been there ,but what ever it was time wise , it was worth the wait.
the Ambridge HS basket ball team is heading to Las Vegas for a tournament this season, & had car wash fund raiser , so I took my Escape down for a quick wash and donation, , I sure hope they play better basketball than they wash cars, , No one touched the roof, I have a sun roof & it never got wet!!!!! , with a 6-6 center washing the wheels & tires the 5-5 point guard was doing the tops ! Way to go coach !!!!
We had a good week at the shop a lot of sticks & boxes went out the door & the shelves are in a rearrange me mode ,,, cant let the customers get complacent , make them Look for the favorite sticks & maybe the will find something different & give it a try.
It is time to make the Kona & get the day of relaxation started, Don Carlos #3 at the ready & the Dave Brubeck CD's are loaded & ready to go. Enjoy, Vince

God morning , it is a HOT HUMID wet morning here in da Burgh, we have had High humidity & rain all week & the weather man said its just getting started ,, Thank God for A/C, I would be looking for a cave to hide in If I didn't have A/C ,its too hot to sit on the back deck , even with the awning ,But at night the rain on the aluminum awning is so relaxing ,sitting out there with a cigar , a scotch & a cup of coffee, I don't even put on the music , Just listen to the rain . ,,, I think there was a song about that years ago!
Well some news from the family, my Daughter graduated with a 3.775 GPA for her Masters at Duquesne Univ. , now with a $125,000 student loan , I hope she can pay it off before she gets a loan to send her boys to school ,,, Grand DAD is tapped out !!

the shop had a good week, sales were brisk, & being open on the 4th was a good idea as sales were up 100 % over last year,,,, last year we closed on the 4th !!!
we have been getting a lot of guys coming in & not having a clue of what they want, ,,,, some thing mild , do you have Cohiba? , sure they are $24.00 each , are they Mild? NO WAY , full body@$$ kickers..... hey you asked for a cohiba , that's what you got , you want a mild stick I have them but a cohiba is far from Mild, you want to start with a Macanudo , or a Montecristo white, I don't care if you don't know anything about a cigar, if you want to try it just ask, I an more than happy to help, but if you want to be the Big Man & tell me what you want & then try to light it before you cut it , & wonder why its not drawing, ,,, it show me you have been getting your cigars at the gas station , a Cutter I never new you needed a cutter , yep that's 5 bucks for the cutter & an extra 10 for being an @$$hole !!!
Breakfast was a Big Omlet with Irish & Swiss cheese, chopoltli peppers , tomato & onions ,a little bacon on the side & toast, with a pot of weak @$$ed monkey blend that finished about 5 different coffees that were just a few beans of this & that, not enough to make the 10 cups of water I had in the pot , should have dumped out a few cups of water & made do with a better but smaller pot of coffee, ,the wife liked it, said it wasn't as strong as the Tar I make all the time , ,,, any way how would she know with a pint of cream in her cup ! hahahaha
Since it has been so DAMMMMMM warm & humid I have decided to go a little lighter on the Sunday Meal, , the grill is getting fired up & the Italian Sausage , Corn on the cob & Zuccunie ,will all get a bit of heat with some peppers & onions to put on the sausage . I am taking the lazy way out today, I should be doing a London Broil, or a pork loin , on the grill but dammmm it to hot to worry about it , just slap the stuff on , turn it a few times & its Done, with the absence of marinade & temp checks to make sure its not over done or under cooked , , I need a break today!.
I have a nice selection of sticks to work on today , the Kona will be paired with a contraband Monte #2 for starters, after a break between cigars I have a Padron 1964 maduro Princippe & by then it will be time to cook, after the sausage & corn I have a God Of Fire toro & after that I will be digging into the humidor for something for our Sunday night cigar ride, , last night I had a contraband Fonseca corona that lasted about 90 minutes on out Saturday night jazz cigar ride as a local NPR station plays jazz on Saturday nights from 8 till midnight, so I take advantage of the sounds & the coffee & cigars & hope the wife dosent talk to much hahahaha like that will ever happen ! ,looks like I have a lot of stuff to get ready for today, & get the A/C on in the Qtr.deck before it gets too hot , Enjoy, Vince

Lsten to the rythems !!!!

Good morning , it is Sunday7/14/13 a HOT sticky morning here in da Burgh & I have a honey do list to get on asap, , the Boss needs a 3 pound bag of almonds & gas in her broom errr car , yes her car, & I need to stop at the hardware store & get a new lock set for the back door, ,the bolt popped off & now the dead bolt is all that hold the door closed , who ever tried to get in got past the one lock but didn't get passed the dead bolt , we took the grandson to the fireworks display @ the community days celebration,& when we got home we found the door scratched a bit & when I opened it the lock was broken,,,,,, no one got in , but the damage to the door & replacing the lock will be all on me as the insurance didn't come up to the Dedictable
I have been wanting to change it for a few years & get a T handle instead of the nob, so now is the time to do it .....
Breakfast started out a little slow this morning , I had a pan of sausage on the stove & forgot to turn on the gas !, ,wondering why I didn't hear the sizzle hahaha , well the fire did help a bit & the eggs were over easy for the boss & mine were scrambled , a slice of watermelon & a pot of coffee that the wife made , & I have no idea where it was from or the roast, she got up about 45 minutes before I did ,,, all I know , it was weak & watery........BUT I smiled & drank it ..... no reason to start a fight ,,, dam I got to learn to Keep my mouth shut. & after 43 years I still haven't hit the point on that bell curve to keep me out of trouble!
I have a sirloin to go on the grill later today , yams on the Grill also , with a few greens & some FRESH HOME MADE banana ice cream for desert , I have the bananas in the freezer & will be dropping them into the ice cream maker after the grilling is done, everything is prepped & ready to go , But when I get the almonds I need to get Chocolate sauce , whipped cream ( to lazy to make my own ) & maybe some cherry's to add a dash of color .
As we were heading to the fireworks last night I pulled out a Diamond Crown Torpedo for the drive, , it has been in the humidor a L O N G time & smelled fantastic, & the taste was mild & mellow BUT just at the half way point the wrapper POPPED with a loud SNAP & about the first inch of the cigar was wrapperless , it just went POP & dropped off the stick right into my lap ! , well a $19.00 stick should never do that , H3ll a 3 buck stick should not do that , a Gift from the cigar angels , they must have needed a laugh..... ha ha ha , the laugh is on me , I finished it anyway a different tast with out the wrapper , but soon it was back to the part of the stick that had a wrapper & all was fine.
we are looking at a FORCAST of 90 here in da burgh today & I will be in the Qtr. Deck , a/c on full & the lights Out & music on.
I haven't watched the news but I see on the net Zimmerman was found not Guilty, ,,, must have been the same jury as OJ had....,I don't know one way or the other what the jury was given by the attorneys for & against him, I didn't watch much of the TV trial, & haven't made up my mind one way or the other , I see some people are happy & some not at all, , I am Indefferent to the entire mess & some of my friends don't understand How I can be indifferent to the subject, & not pick a side, some of them being for the acquittal & some wanting him in Jail..... dammmmm cant we all just get along > a quote from some guy , Rodney King I think. But my brain isn't as sharp or fast as it was a few hundred years ago hahaha .....
got a lot to do & this isn't getting it done , Enjoy, Vince

Good morning to all , it is Sunday 7/21/13 a Humid overcast day here in da Burgh,, if the temp gets as high as the prediction , I plan on staying in the Qtr. deck all day, but I have a 4 pack of pork chops to go on the grill some time this afternoon , a little bit of summer squash will get the same treatment.
Breakfast this morning was a grilled bagel with eggs , bacon tomato & lettuce& some Asisago cheese , the coffee this morning was a pot of Brazillian grown medium light roast mixed with a few spoons full of dark & light roasts that were the bottoms of the bags, not enough to make a cup of any one of them but all together it was a good way to get rid of the leftovers ........ not a great blend, but not a bad mix ,,,,, so with all the heat & humidity I am thinking about an ICED Kona later today, BUT I plan on making the ice cubes from the Kona itself, that way it will not get watered down,,,,,
The grandsons are on Vacation this week with there other grandparents , on there way to the outer banks with some cousins , visiting their Grandmothers sister & her husband who lives on the Inter-coastal waterway in a HUGE house that could pass for a small hotel but its just the 2 of them all year unless the family comes to visit, ,,,,,, MUST BE NICE .
the weather has been Hot & humid & the dammmm sales have been so slow I could have phoned it in, , & just as we are going to find out who shot JR, I get a customer & I miss the ending of the show...... dammmm customers!!!!!
the car is heading to the body shop in the morning, a little DING on the front fender due to some one hitting it when it was parked on the street in front of the Barber shop when I was getting my summer shearing . Sure He/She stopped to see who's car they hit , hahahaha ..... so my 500 deductible comes out of my pocket ,,,, dammmmmm that's a lot of cigars & scotch I will not be getting anytime soon !
Almost every Sunday I relax ,smoke a few cigars ,listen to music & cook,, But Today I must Hide out as the wife is going to cut the grass,,,, since it has been raining , she tells me it getting cut today one way or an other, so I say have at it ,,,, I will make the iced tea for you ! Can't weight or is it wait for Monday, NO it MUST be done today... OK have Fun.
I know I am going to pay for this !!!!!! ,,,, time to brew the Kona & get some of it in the ice cube tray ..... Enjoy, Vince
