Good morning it is Sunday 1/18/15 a cool wet day here in da Burgh the snow is still covering the ground & there is a light fog just hovering over the field next door to me , a nice way to start the day,,, the sky is gray & the wind is light out of the SW bring the temp up above the magic 32F , the weather man tells us we might hit 40 today ,,,, works for me !
Last Thursday I went to the bowling alley in Aliquippa Pa , for the monthly meeting of the Beaver Valley cigar club,,,, I rolled a few cigars answered a few questions & let some of the members try there hand at a chance to roll there own cigar ,,,,,, made a few bucks to cover the cost of the tobacco & got a LOT of free drinks ......... I needed a long time sitting with a pot of coffee before I went home ! . I thought I would be home by 9, but didn't make it till after 11..... & I had one of the BEST ham & cheeses sandwiches,, yes Cheeses, 4 different types of cheese, from crumbled Blue to a soft cream cheese flavored with white truffle oil & some aged Swiss & sharp Irish whisky flavored chedder, , the bread was a toasted herb bread with a light toast on it & the ham was shaved right off the bone by hand & a dipping combo of grain mustard, a different one with a garlic Mayo, and a tomato based , almost black sause that was nothing like ketchup that I have ever had, & of course I had to ask for the recipe & the cook said he had made it out of his head & didn't have any idea what was in it , could have been the water out of the mop bucket that gave it the color hahahahaha , who cares it was good ! hahahaha
& yesterday I went to the Slippery Mermaid for Shussi with my daughter & 5 of her girl friends ,,,, a rose amoung the thorns ,,,, that was me hahahaha , I thought it was a gang of cats eating raw fish & everyone was ripping on some one who didn't show up for the cat fright , hahahaha , well 3 bottles of wine & a fond fairwell I left the " ladys"to rip on some one else & it might have been me for all I know ,,, as a joke I left the waiter a stack of silver Eisenhour dollars , now the dressor is not leaning to one side anymore hahahaha , they are a Heavy coin, but since they are the sandwich coins & Not SILVER they just don't have that rig when you flip them.....
Coffee this morning is a quick blend of Starbucks Pikes place coffee & some medium dark roast Columbian , not enough of either to make a full pot on there own..... .& breakfast was a toasted bagel. with cream chees & a bit of smoked salmon. I am holding back for the supper at 4 PM , CHICKEN , yes chicken, NO HUNK O BEEF today , I have some boneless skinless breasts , red peppers onions garlic & sweet potato to get all done in some fashion that is what is sitting on the cutting boards right now, how & what I am going to do ,,,,,,, well I haven't decided yet, got the thinking cap on & will be looking in the fridge & pantry to see what Enhancements are available .....
This mornings Cigar will be a Padron 1964 Princippe maduro , since we are having chicken today I want to wake up the taste buds ........ what to smoke next?????? we will cross that bridge when we get to it .....
The wifes car needs its mandatory yearly state inspection ( money maker for the state & local garage ) , she puts less than 5000 miles a year on her car, But the state wants there pound of flesh in the cost of the sticker that tells everyone we paid the tax & the car is "SAFE" to drive , what about that loose nut behind the wheel ? hahahahaha
, well it gets dropped off tonight & picked up some time Monday after noon, IF I drop it off tonight I don't have to get up with the birds to be there when they open , they get to it when they can, & call when it is ready to pick up,,,, pay the tribute to the state & I am good for an other year......
, it is time for the pot Of Jamican Blue Mountain today , the Kona is saying hey Dumb@$$ I am over here ,,, but since I am NOT making the hunk o beef , I might as well change the coffee as well as the Sunday Morning Smoke..... Enjoy, Vince

Good morning it is Sunday 1/25/15 a cool overcast day here in da Burgh, a light mist is falling & there is a bit of fog over the area , not a DROP of blue in the sky , its all gray , & to go with the gray mood the hunk o beef is in the oven & I am smacking my lips over the roasted chicken I had hoped to have today , BUT happy wife ,, happy life , so the chicken will wait in line & Monday it will top a bed of baby spinach with a home made vinigarette made with Garlic mustard , olive oil & what ever else falls out of the pantry & chill chest. . Yesterday we went to El Toro for a little Mexican food , I had the crab enchaladas & the wife had the beef enchaladas , what else would she have,,,, if its not beef , its just OK , she loves her beef, I just wish I could get her interested in a little "sausage " hahahaha
I was a bit lazy this morning & we had asiago bagles & the morning coffee was the Winter blend from Charbuck$, , not one of my favorites , tastsed like cinnimion was added to an average coffee, nothing outstanding at all... the KONA will help & it will be going on soon, but this mornings coffee was a a looser IMHO ..... this Sunday moring smoke will NOT be the don carlos #3 but a Dbl. Corona from the Bahamahas , a Graycliff white band with a shaggy foot ,,,,, had one Friday & it was a nice mild smoke so to start the day , it will be smoked with the Kona & maybe a weee dram to warm up the attitude since it is so gray outside.
The shop was SLOW all week but we did get a little bump on Friday not as good as I had hoped for , but a small stone in a Big pond still makes a splash.... ,

Last night we picked up the grandson after he finished his job, & I let him BUILD the rack to fit behind & over his toilet, , he needs a lot of shelf space so this was the easiest place to start, his apt. is nice & roomy but NO counter or shelf space, there are a few closets , but no work areas , , so we are slowly adding stuff to help out , the Microwave oven is sitting on a TV tray , soon to be replaced with a cabnet when I find one hahahaha !

Every year for the past 10 or so we have been getting a flock of artic birds migrating north in antisapation of the coming spring, the geese going one direction the artic turns an other & BIRD $hit all over EVERYTHING there are people in the parking lot at the local shopping center buying all kids of leftovers at the bakery & deli & feeding the dammm birds , my wife has a white car, & it looks like it was in a war zone with the windshield , hood & trunk all covered with "Bullit "Holes , MY GRAY Escape looks worse , since the light colored Bird$hit stands out on the dark gray,,,, the side walks & trees are dripping with it , , but it will only be a few days & the Birds will be $hitting on some one else ! , at lest you can eat the geese hahahahaha

with all the UPROAR about the deflated balls , why isn't the media looking into the rising of the Jehadests in this country, a football game isn't as importaint as our way of life & freedom we have in this country , & some low life from some mid east $hit hole wants to come here & DEMAND we allow him to do what he did in his native country, well it is against our laws we have the Constitution, Bill of rights , Congress , Court systems all in place but they want exempt from our laws & have there own system......... just go back to where ever you came from & enjoy the brutality , we are FREE here , Just listen to the words of the wife & every thing is fine,,,, happy wife happy life hahahaha . I am sure a few men would scoff at me for that but the fact is we have been married 44 years & I found out long ago if you bring her flowers & cook for her she will be gratfull & cut grass I clean snow from your car, you bring candy & flowers & you MIGHT get lucky & be allowed to sleep in the bed & not on the floor or the couch hahahahaha ....
the local wild life has been a bit confused this year, the turkeys are all flocking in the field & just wainting for spring, the deer have made it through an other hunting season & are starting to show signs of a spring birth rate & a New crop of meat on the hoof for next year....... , I haven't seen to many rabbits this past year, with the influx of the coyotes, they have taken up a more Hidden exestance , ,,,, time for a Coyote hunt , I bhave lived here at the same address almost 40 years & we never had a wild life problem before , BUT when I moved here it was all Rural Farm land, & nature took care of it self....... now the population has gone wild, there are shopping centers where the meadows used to be, where are the deer going to go but into your back yard,,, the influx of people has upset the natural order of the animals coming & going , the deer don't look both ways before crossing the street, & BAMMM 2500 bucks in body work & some meat for the freezer hahahah ,,,, in the time I have lived here I have seen ONE BOBCAT , a few fox, & a lot of deer, Turkeys, skunks, possums ,raccoons, rabbits & squarrels ... there are a few hawks & a nesting pair of eagles in the area so we know the eco system is fine the rivers are now clean enough for game fish & Bass Masters had a tournament in da Burghs 3 rivers & I guess it went well so the area is clean & the pollution from all the steel mills is gone & so are most of the mills , & all the jobs but the air is clean ,,,,, a fine balance between jobs and clean air.... not for me to figure out , let the guys from Big Business & government figure it out..... no matter what they come up with ,,, it will be WRONG for some one ..... ,,,, Some times I feel like moving off the grid & exploring the wilds of the tropics....... BUT I do enjoy the comforts of home ,,,,,,

Time for the Kona & the Graycliff. , Enjoy, Vince

good morning , it is Sunday the FIRST of Feb. 2015 a month into the new year & it is Cold & snowing here in da Burgh , we are not as bad as New England , the frozen tundra of Lambeau Field , but it is a bit of a pain in the @$$ , there is No place to toss all the snow. the pile is Shoulder high on both sides of the drive way & the back deck is getting smaller as the snow can only get shoved off one end as it is higher than the deck on 2 sides,,,, Winter is Here ! BUT I still cant get my wife to move south ! Not even for a few months out of the year. ......
Breakfast this morning was a cheese Blintz with black berry jam & a pot of Starbucks winter blend ,,,,,,, not a favorite of mine the flavor is almost "canned" . but I am making a dinner of Stuffed Pork chops today , NO Hunk O Beef , after 40 plus years I think I have worn a small hole in her armor & she is allowing me to make something beside Beef, for Sundays .... AMEN .... At my Grandmothers is was always chicken & pasta on Sundays So the "menu" of no change has been a part of my life,,,,,,,,, But I don't like the Boredom of No change menus , I love to challenge my self to come up with Different ways to make something,,, anything , Different , But it is a "tradition "here to be BOREING , & safe ,,,,,,
Last night #2 grandson went to the mid winter semi formal with a date and Tux.....
dammmmm they are getting old right before my eyes

Yesterday was the NOG & Grog gathering at Allegheny Smoke Works in Blawnox Pa . a well attended gathering of cigar smokers , getting tuned up for the 16th.annuil cigar crawl this May. it was also my buddy Bob's 49th Birthday ,,,,,& I am old enough to be his father hahahaha

I SEE ON THE NEWS THAT THE tOWEL HEADs have taken an other head this time from a Japaneese citizen...... How long are we going to let this go on ,,,, when the USA was a Young Nation & the Barberry pirates wanted President Jefferson to Pay for safe passage of US ships he sent the Marines in & not the money ........ If islam is a religion of peace why cant they get along with everyone else ? , they don't even like each other as the sheites & sunnis fight like cats & dogs with each other as well as the infedels , of witch I am glad to be .....a Christian can live next door to a Jew, Buddist , Shinto, Hindu agnostic & atheist or what ever But add one muslim & the war starts,,,, its my way or die , what kind of peace is that ? I know why they are so up tight , No booze, no strippers , No PORKCHOPS no BACON, ......... NO BACON !!!!!! that is all I ever needed to hear , don't want any parts of NO BACON......... What Blackjack Pershing did before WWI kept the musliums insergents in the Phillipenes Quiet & respect full for generations , what to do is a tuff choice ,,, but sooner or later it will come to an all out war , & like the Borg of star treck fame it will be an all out war, Resistance is Futile all I can say to that IS "BULL$HIT"
I hope there is a Peace full alternative to that problem But I don't see on any horizon.

time to get off the computer , get dressed , grab the snow shovel & dig my way out to the Qtr. deck & turn on the heat,,,,,, it is going to be a LONG weekend I might as well Enjoy it hahahaha
Enjoy, Vince

Technically it's Monday morning as I write this, but my Sunday morning cigar was a Romeo y Julieta 1875 Cetro No. 1, along with a cup of freshly-ground Eight O'clock Colombian Peaks. Neither is especially remarkable, but both were just what I needed for a pleasant beginning to the day.

My lady is recovering from whatever bug (probably influenza) is going through her family, so there was nothing to do but stay home, do a little long-overdue housecleaning and wait for the Super Bowl. (The game was okay, the commercials disappointing.) I replaced the batteries in my digital hygrometers and salt-tested them; once they passed at 75%, I decided to run a second test using a 65% Boveda pack, since that's the RH I prefer in my humidors. I tossed in my little analog hygrometer alongside the Caliber IVs -- out of all the analogs I've gotten ("free" with humidors or as bonuses with cigar orders) over the years, this is the only one that has actually worked. Looking through the lid of the little plastic test-box just now, I see it's dead-on 65%, up from 35% (ambient room RH) when I began the test. Amazing!

When the housecleaning became too boring to continue, I took a break and read a few chapters of a biography of science fiction Grand Master Robert A. Heinlein (he was also Navy, Vince, Annapolis Class of 1929). Finally it was time to watch the Super Bowl commercials ... I mean, the big game. Since the action on the field couldn't manage to hold my attention, I came here and decided to resuscitate a few long-dormant threads. (In fact, nearly all the threads except this one seem to be dormant. No one here to welcome a newcomer, except a couple of auto-posts from Lash.)

Now it's the wee, small hours and the Rebellion I'm smoking (don't recall the exact vitola description, it's approximately a panatela) is nearly done; this stick doesn't impress me as much as I thought it would, but it was a freebie with an order from JR so I have no real reason to complain. Maybe its siblings will improve with a few months' rest.

RE: The "don't call them Islamic terrorists" Islamic terrorists: is our current Resident (notice what I did there) soft because of his own Muslim upbringing, or does he just need to grow a pair -- and a brain? Right now I am look for good-guy grown-ups on the world stage, and the only one I see is Bibi Netanyahu ... so of course our Resident doesn't like him. Almost two more years before we can end his Residency at 1600 Pennsylvania and get a new tenant who may-or-may-not do a better job -- what am I saying? Almost anyone can do a better job than this superannuated schoolkid, although some of the likely candidates may not be much better.

Off to bed. I think I'll sleep in late; after all, I'm not a groundhog.

Hello Camo, it is nice to see some one reply , & I do like the resident comment... now on with the BS
good morning all from the Burgh it is a warmer day to start than it has been in a long time over 40F all ready & I have already picked up the grandson & taken him to work & brought his laundry home for the Boss to wash & dry it so he will have clean sheets & blankets for his bed tonight, The don Carlos #3 is in the ashtry all ready & the morning coffee was a pot of Columbian , the kona is in the press pot & I am getting ready to have a cup before I head out to the qtr.deck for a morning /afternoon of cigars & coffee, the wife is watching CBS Sunday morning with Charles Osgood , & switching back & forth to QVC, I don't know what she is buying today but what ever it is , I know it will make her happy, ,,, might be a new pair of shoes or something for the yard, she was asking me about some 6 foot tall wind spinner made out of brass & L.E.D.'s , it was under a C note & she tells me it would look good by the bird feeder,,,,, what ever makes her happy & since she buys me fine cigars , I have no problems in what she spends her ( OUR) money on ,,,,,, happy wife, happy life....
Breakfast was just a bagel today , the ribs are in the smoker & the yams will get a touch of smoke later today , NO BEEF AMEN.....
the shop was SLOW all week, dead slow , on Tuesday I didn't break 100 bucks ,,,, not going to cover the gas & electric if that keeps up,,, the entire week was way below the norm,,, even Friday ( my best day of the week ) the sales were well below average..... no one wants to come out when the wind chill is below zero....... Spring is just around the bend hahahahaha
we have a DA in this county that is not running for re election so there is a mad dash of lawyers all running for the job, 4 D & 2 R so far,,,,,,, I guess the retirement & other perks are to good to pass up, nothing better than a county job to pad the retirement pay check,,,, unless it is a state or fed job......... more people living off the tax dollars........ I don't know why I am complaing about that , I get a nice check from uncle sam every month,,,,,, Navy , post office & SS, along with my Steele workers check, investment income & the stipend I get from the shop ( Cigars & coffee money ) I am doing OK..... 40 plus years as a chef, never staying long enough at any one place , to get a vested stake in the company & when I ran my own place I didn't charge enough to fund a retirement plan for myself , but I did get some small investment help & it is turning out a lot better than the BIG bucks drexel burnium & lambert took off of me , thank you michael milkin
( lower case as I see fit ) but that is all water under the bridge & I have moved on & am enjoying life, every day is a celebration of Cigars, coffee scotch & some of the best chow on this planet.......... So I don't have a Lincoln or caddie , I don't have custom made suits or vacation in luxury suits all over the world, I am happy at motel 6 & enjoy visiting the small towns in the area, exploring new cigar shops & sipping some rare old scotch,,, I cant afford a Rolls Royce but I can afford a bottle of 30 YO single malt whisky at lest one a year........ Sure I do drink Kona coffee, but only Sundays , BUT I am happy with what ever God gives me ...... attitude is the key, be happy with what you have & W O R K for what you want or think you want, , when you get there & see what it cost you in time & effort , then you can figure out if it was worth it ....... No more 100 Hour weeks for me , No more 60 hour weeks for me ,,,,,,,, , I am happy with UNDER 40 hours & don't care about making a BIG paycheck... it is the time of life to sit back & enjoy the fruits of my labor the past 50 plus years,,, I started washing dishes when I was a toddler & have stayed close to the kitchen all my life & have never looked back & said I should have done some thing else..... sure I took breaks from it , worked in sales a few years ( and bade BIG BUCKS) but always came back to my roots in the kitchen , teaching some one to cook is a lot of fun and personal satisfaction for me.........
I have a few Cigars picked out for today , I am really enjoying the JD Howard line so I will get one in todays rotation, an ISOM might make it into todays mix , depending on what I want after the JDH. I haven't selected a scotch for today as of now , but I am leaning tward some thing from the highlands today & bypassing the Islays Don't know why just a taste thing..... , Maybe an Islay later today....... Qtr. cask might be a good night cap today...... well I have a few things to get done & now is the time , Enjoy, Vince

Colombian followed by Kona, and a Don Carlos -- Vince, you know how to start a Sunday!

I love watching fledgling politicians compete for a vacant office. It's a bit like seeing a litter of kittens work out their relative positions, biting and hissing as if it all amounted to something. Unlike kittens (of which I am quite fond), I could almost condone stuffing the lawyers into a sack and tossing them into the river; we have entirely too many of them, and only a precious few seem to be worth their keep. Entirely too often, they morph into politicians ... which is de-evolution if ever I saw it.

But I'd rather play with puppies. They grow up much more likely to be faithful, useful companions with good manners when properly socialized early enough

I began my Sunday with some Eight O'clock Colombian Peaks fresh from the burr-grinder, and a deliciously mild (and mildly delicious) Casa Torano robusto, while I read more of the Heinlein biography. Then time somehow got away from me. Now it's nearly 2:30pm and I still need to wash and gas up the car before I pick up my lady for dinner and a movie. No idea what we'll go see this evening, but we're both anticipating the 50 Shades movie next weekend -- her because it's a romance, and me because I hope it will give her some ideas. (I actually gave her the book trilogy as a reading assignment, and already it's starting to pay off.)

Just about every Sunday starts with DC#3 & Kona , I fallowed it up with a pardon anniv.64 maduro principe, ...... after the BBQ ribs & yams I think I will be heading back out to the Qtr.deck & a ISOM of some sort, & a snifter of single malt ....... haaaah yes its great to be off on Sunday & Monday ! Enjoy, Vince

Vince, enjoy your Sunday and Monday off -- but enjoy working the rest of the week too. I'm retired, and have entirely too much free time on my hands combined with too little money to do all the things I'd like to be doing.

Ah the pitfalls of retirement- everything goes up more than Social Security. I'm also virtually retired, but I can't find enough time to get everything done

I have been retired 12 years now ,,,,, 4 years at 1460 WMBA radio talk show host & 8 at King Beaver Cigars , just " part time" noon to 6 Tuesday thru Thursday but Friday I am noon to midnight. but I try to get out of the shop by 10:30 or 11 , it is a tuff life but some one needs to do it hahahaha

Something we have in common besides cigars and coffee -- I worked in radio from 1968 until retirement in the 1990s, including some of my military service. (American Forces Philippines Network, Clark AB, 1973-74, while assigned to the "parent agency" 13th Air Force Directorate of Information. Also baby-sat civilian media when our POWs returned from North Vietnam via Clark; gave Peter Jennings his wake-up calls.)

I worked mainly as a deejay in various formats, also did some news and public affairs programs, programmed a couple of times. Finished up as production director for a combo that included a mostly-syndicated AM talker -- Beck, Limbaugh, Hannity, others. Since retirement I've some done voice-overs and guested with local talk hosts. I miss the business, but I'm mostly happy just being on the other side of the speakers these days.

I can't listen to most local music radio -- no personalities. Looks like talk is the future, at least until someone decides it's time to re-invent Top 40.

Good afternoon it is Sunday 2/15/15 a COLD sunny day here in da Burgh,,,, we hit MINUS 24 wind chill last night with a minus 6 air temp,,,,,, dammmmm its COLD,,, but not as bad as Boston..... or Buffalo ..... n the hunk O beef is in the oven & I just got back from taking my grandson to work,,, it was minus 1 when I left to pick him up & now it has "warmed" up to a plus 2 heat wave hahahaha , breakfast was sausage & eggs & the coffee was a Indian monsoon estate coffee & of course the Don Carlos #3 for the ride to pick up the grandson , I stopped at Charbuck$ on the way home & got the boss a gingerbread latte & BDL eSPRESSO FOR MY SELF ,,,,,, the line was around the building for the drive up so I went in & NO LINE !!!!! I fallowed the DC3 with a maduro H Upman toro & finished it on the ride home ..... that's why I am late getting the Sunday morning post up, more of a Sunday afternoon report. . the shop was a mixed bag this past week last Tuesday was off the charts, & the rest of the week was slow until Friday ....... closed today but I might go in just long enough to add water to the humidors & smoke a cigar , it is way to cold to try to heat the Qtr.deck today so I am stuck in the house with the boss all day ..... until it is time to pick up the grandson later tonight ,,, looking at a low below zero again after sundown..... he lives about 1/4 mile from work & has been walking both ways , but it is just to dammm cold to be out ,,,, so I am the taxi driver & noy only helping him & keeping the wife quiet so he isn't out in the weather...... happy wife ,,,, happy life..... & I get to have a cigar in the car...... a win win , in my book.
GLOBIAL WARMING MY @$$.
Valintine's day was a big win here , she got a box of French mint candy , & I got a 15 pack of media nolche maduro cigars , 5 montecristos, 5 H upmans , & 5 R&J 's ,,,, haven't had the R&J yet , but it will be the go to when I go to pick him up tonight.
we had a white out yesterday for about 20 minutes , we were on our way home from the grocery store & had to pull over as I could not see past the hood of the car.... lucky we were able to get into a parking lot at a local strip mall, & wait it out , the skys were clear when we left & with in 1 minute everything STOPPED .... lots of maulti car pile ups & cars running off the road, lucky we stopped in time to avoid the mess, got home & cleaned out the drive way & stayed in the rest of the day........... watched a little TV & played on the computer a bit , watched the Orginal Saturday night live ..... & hope to catch the 40 anniv, show tonight,,,, 40 years of some of the best & worst TV I have ever seen,,,,, no one will ever replace Jim Balushi or gilda radner , they were the best........ RIP ,,,
weather update,, plus 4 & climbing hahahaha winds have dropped fro the 40 MPH gusts we had last night to the steady 10 MPH we have now,,, my car is out of windshield washer fluid & it is just to dammmmmm cold to refill it , maybe Monday when the temp gets to a plus 10 I might refill it hahahah
even the mail man is saying he was COLD , we got a delivery today on Sunday... a package from QVC . my wife ordered some firefly wind chimes last week .... it could have waited till Monday but they were trying to get caught up with the packages & delivering by truck instead of the carrier bringing them on Monday .... OT & big bucks for the extra day & hazardous working conditions ,,,,, the mail will go no matter what. I wish the social security was as dedicated, we are still waiting for the July check for her mother , calling the local office the regional office & they say it is being worked on ...... 7 months to get a check from the government,,, if I owed the IRS they would be hitting me with pelenetys & intrest but if they owe you , its a different story.....
well its time for the kona to go on & I might start the car & sit in the drive way & have a cigar,,,, the roads are OK but I can heat up the car a lot faster than the Qtr.deck ,,,,,, might go back to charbucks if I could smoke there, BUT NO way,,,,,,, I guess I will go to the shop & see how cold it is there , set the temp at 65 when I left & the heaters are on in both walk ins set at 70 ... should be fine for a cigar ,,,,,, Enjoy, Vince

Cold and very windy here all day. I lit up a pipe and went up to get the paper around noon, but they didn't deliver it. Snow is drifting and no chance of hitting the freezing mark here until next Sunday. Yesterday when I went out I noticed the fan isn't working in the car---not looking forward to fixing that in this weather.

good afternoon ... I got a slow start today And am sitting in the Qtr. deck puffing on my second cigar of the day,,,, started he day with a ISOM SigloII , now i have a San Cristobal Dbl. Corona ,,,, Breakfast was a pot of Kona & bacon and eggs with almond bread toasted with butter & orange marmalaid , then it was off to the grocery store that didnt get done yesterday, and since we were out I didnt have time to cook so we stopped at a local dinor for take out, I had a poached salmon salid & the wife had a piece of broiled cod with a salid , we both got a slice of pie, hers was a peachberry & I got the blackberry, ,,,,,, great stuff & no work !!!!!

The oldest grandson had a syst removed from his chest on Thursday & is doing well at his mothers place , he will go back to work in a week or so....

we had about 8 inches of snow last night & the temp went below zero again & the battery on my Escape went dead , so I had to use the wifes car for work on Friday,,,, not good. Not allowed to smoke in her car....... walked to the cornor store last night to get swiss cheese & lottery tickets & there computer wa down , so it was a waist of time but I did get a nice walk in & a cigar, ... the local repair shop wa not able to come & jump my car & I hope they can get it monday , I have jumpper cables but I am just to dammmm lazy to get out there & do it .... with all the snow piled up on both sides of the drive way , I cant get her car close enough to jump it,,,, my battery in on the right side & hers is on the lef , the cables are just a foot short of reaching , & I dont want to disconect hers to jump mine,,,,, so I will wait.......

we have a new Omaha steak shop in one of the strip malls & they sent out some welcome to the shop cupons & we filled the freezer & spent a few hundred bucks on steaks chops , burgers, & Dogs, some cheese cake & fish, all portion controled packages & will be eating well for a few weeks,,,,, I hope....

with all the sub zero weather & wind chills dropping to 25 below , it has been COLD & not much traffic at the shop,,, we did OK but nothing like we should have done .
Today is the first time in the Qtr.Deck all week. just to dammmmm cold to go out.

I am listening to the radio & the announcer is telling the audiance to turn off there phones,,,,,,,, how stupid are people? , if your at the movies , church, or any place that is full of people why do you need your phone? are you a doc or some one who is in the need of constant phone service? if so DONT go to some place where you will bother the other people. use some common sence people.

not much else going on ..... cleaning snow & freezing my not so fat @$$ off .... still glad i am not in Boston . ENJOY Vince

Monday morning Up date, last night we hit a record low for the day with a MINUS 12 Air Temp & Minus 28 Wind chill.......... dammmmm it is making my nipples hurt hahahaha

Good morning it is Sunday MARCH first 2015 & March is coming in like a Lion, it is snowing here & has been most of the morning , started about 2 AM here & has not let up since, we have about 3 or 4 inches of new snow right now with more on the way , the Poor people in Boston & all of New England have my Sympanthy, & it snowed in Vegas ,,,, Tuff $hit for them hahahaha , makes up for all the heat in the summer ..... with ice on the rivers here & looking tward the spring thaw , the people down river are in for a WET spring , I haven't seen this much ice on the rivers since I was a kid I remember going with my Dad (This was way back in the 1950's) , to get a 8MM movie camera so he could film the ice flow on the Ohio River ...... & now I am older than he was back then,,,, Funny how you remember the good times & forget the hard times ....
well breakfast was just a bagel & coffee , nothing special got a lot of snow to move today & it is still coming down...... I do have some Pork chops defrosting & they will be hitting the heat later today , the cheese cake is sitting on the kitchen sink drain board defrosting for a treat after the chops & baked potato , I will be chopping up some bacon with onions to top the spuds with a little butter & sour cream & a few sliced Hot Peppers just to warm the blood a bit....
the shop had a fair week & since Friday was the last day of our winter specials I decided to extend it a little longer & added Kristoff Cigars to the line up , & next Friday I will add some thing else for a week & see what happens ,,,, every week I have been running a special on one brand m changing every Friday & giving 20 % off sticks & 25% off a box for the weeks featured brand, some weeks went UNNOTICED , so that brand will be saying good by to all the shelf space it was getting,,,,,, Some brands will get that extra space,,, you need to stop in & check out the humidor , or do your own research,,,,,,,
I have been spending much time in the Qtr. Deck this winter , it is just to Dammm cold to heat the space , the room is only 10 X 12 & the 6 foot 220V base board heater is big enough to do the job , but it takes so long & I haven't got the time to wait for it So I have been skipping the Tuesday nights in the Qtr. Deck & going to a friends house & smoking there cigars & drinking there whisky ........ but as soon as the weather breaks we will be HERE .

the grandsons were here for supper last week & after devouring a bacon wrapped Tenderloin they settled in for a nice visit ,,,, at 19 & 17 they are becoming young men & not Children ,,,, it is hard for the wife to take it , she still sees them as Baby's ....... Both of them have great outlooks on life & both are hard workers & good students of life , the oldest decided to forgo any more piano lessons & nixed the carrier of music in favor of some thing not as tuff to make a living with .... now I think he wants to be an English teacher in a Spanish speaking country,,,,,,, & all he needed to do is move to Fla. Texas Or California But he wants to go back the Mountains in Columbia where he went to High school as an exchange student .......

I had to replace the battery on the escape as the MINUS 25 F sucked the life out of it & when it was in the shop it got a change in the oil to full synthetic & is running a lot smoother & cooler ( Not as cool to NOT be hot enough to keep you warm on the cold night cigar rides ) & last night was a grand ride, CharBuck$ was the first stop & off we went for over 100 Miles & going NO PLACE ... Just ridding & smoking a Fuente Cannone , sipping coffee & listening to the radio , verrry little talking witch was kind of nice , no having to explain anything & no getting yelled at for gliding through a stop sign on a deserted 2 lane 20 miles from anyplace ...... ,, we had no route picked out & I kept changing the direction traveled the closer we got to home & 2.5 hours after we left home I dropped the butt of the Fuente in the ashtray on the back deck as we went in the house in time to watch the 10PM news....
Todays coffee was a pot of Columbian AA & I don't know if I will be getting to the pot of Kona & the Don Carlos #3 anytime soon . There is a LOT of snow to move.......... with more on the way.

on a sad note to end todays BS we mark the Passing of Leonard Nimoy
AKA MISTER SPOCK ,,,, a poet , photographer, & actor...... LIVE LONG & PROSPER

Enjoy, Vince

Good morning it is Sunday 3/8/15 a chilly day here in da Burgh , but we have a blue sky & some clouds & for the first time in a long time the over night temp stayed above 32F But we did set a record on Friday with a minus 6 & the wind chill was minus 18 ..... that will get your attention if you go out in your robe & slippers to get the morning paper hahahaha
So far this morning ,,,,,, after re setting the clocks to SPRINF FWD. I managed to get the Cheese blintz on the table with some black berry's & sour cream, the pot of Kona is ready & the Don Carlos #3 went down so smooth with a pot of Indian Malibar , next cigar in line today is a 10 YO Bahia white band Churchill, And MAYBE a weee dram might be in order this afternoon ,,,, just to take the chill off ! hahahaha ., I plan on making chicken & pasta today haven't thought about the sauce yet, but the pasta will be fresh made & the chicken will be part of the sauce , but I haven't decied if it will be cheese , cream, or tomato..... ,,,, maybe just oil & garlic..... it all depends on what the Boss wants & that's a beef roast , but it is frozen , didn't take it out of the freezer last night ( Because I wanted to have some thing different)

the shop has been picking up a little this past week , I had a few good days , noyhing out of the ordinary but better than we have been having , But Friday was a bit of a disappointment , not that it was bad , but lower than I had hoped for , I opened about an hour & a half early & it did have it merits , but the afternoon was FLAT ,,, NO ONE came in in over 3 hours, but as soon as I started to mop the floor....... you guessed it .......
& we did get a disabled vet who came to town for a job interview & had his wallet lifted on the Gray hound , & with no ID he wasn't able to have his Mother send him any money Via Western Union But we got his all squared away & back on the road to upstate NY , if he sends the money great, if we got took , so what , Not many jobs out there for a one leg man..... & if all he can do is scam ,, he worked hard for the 50 bucks ..... time will tell......
The Grandsons are doing well & the wife is Micro managing everything ,,,,,, as always she needs to be in charge ,,,,, so I let her as if I had any say about it hahahaha
I have been sipping a few different scotches this week , a 12 YO Bowmore bottled by James McArther that has a very heavy Bourbon after taste & we sipped a 6 YO Leadig that was pale in color but bright in complexity for a Young whisky& I did pull the cork on the 33 YO Brundiahabhain ....... dammm I am going to miss that bottle ..... ... I haven't figured out the next one to open but I might grab the 16 YO Laugavulin just for a taste comparro to the Distillers addition of the same vintage of Laugavulin. .... But I might just twist the cap off some blended swill & get hammered as the wife will be watching the Good wife & revenge on TV tonight ,,, so I will be in the Qtr. Deck as not to disturb her TV watching or reading the Sunday Paper..... it is ALL good , this year it will be 45 years together , & I give her space as she give some space , it all works out just fine.....
I plan on getting to the car wash some time today , but I hate the long lines ,,,, I don't want to do it my self so I might wait till late tonight when the lines are gone & get out for a cigar ride to the car wash,,,, just remember to close the sun roof hahahahaha
with all the freezing & thawing my back deck is moving up & down ,,, more this year that it ever has , the back door is sticking on the deck barely open enough to get out , the ramp to the Qtr. deck had to be moved as it was blocking the bottom of the door, & we just cant have that ! , Ice in the gutter & down spouts , melting snow turning to ice on the walks , & the FIRST Crack in the walk since it was put in ..... 2004 till now & NO cracks,,, But this winter snapped it .......

I don't know about you guys & gals out there But I am starting to stock pile ammo & food,,,, ( along with the Booze & cigars ) , the hell with money , what good will it do you when no one wants it, so trade of goods will be the next cash ,,, & if I am wrong..... so what I will die a happy man......

I was much happier when Ronnie Ragan . was in the White house, ... I didn't agree with him 100% but he had the BALLS to take action & say some thing about the way things were, the islamist marxis we have today needs to get the BALLS they cut off Bruce Jenner , & the defalted balls form the NE Patroits , & take some lessons from BIBI & PUTIN & be a LEADER & stand up to the trouble makers , back when I was just a kid there was a guy with the Napolian complex living in my area , he was small but wanted to run everything , including my lunch money , I was 2 years older than him & about 15/25 pounds heaverier, & 4 /5 inches taller but he wanted my lunch money ...... he tought by getting me at the bus stop to pay up he could get everyone's lunch money......... well it never happened, just by my size no skill I had him on his back with me on his chest......... we need a President to do just that,,,, as Teddy said, ( I think it was) Speak soft & carry a BIG stick.....
BTW the little bully was killed in a jail break a few years after......
we need some one with BALLS to stand up to the bullys of the world,,,, not to replace them but to keep them from taking more than they have all ready,,,, keep the peace,
when you replace a dictator the power gets spread around & you never know who will grab more power than the faction , you want to put in place ,,,,, so keep the statis Quo , & don't let the bullys destroy the people , as they will try to expand there area & start bothering the guys down river & up river < & before you know it WW# 3.... Iran should never have a NUKE ,,, that would be like giving a 10 YO a book of matches in a fire works factory.

it is about time for me to get back to doing what I do best,,,, smoking cigars , sipping coffee & listening to Jazz & not bothering anyone until they bother ME
Enjoy, Vince

Good morning it is Sunday 3/15/15 the day after PI day & I celebrated with key lime Pie . one of my favorite flavors of pie, second to Blackberry , peach, cherry & apple, Butterscotch is in the top ten , along with Egg custard, & banana cream , & almost any fruit between two layers of pie crust, or one bottom of crust & a topping of anything that is good with the filling, from a hunk of sharp chedder with the apple pie to the whipped cream on the Key lime ... , the Crust should be made with PUE LARD, a bit of salt, flour & ice cold water, , worked as little as possible & into a HOT oven ...... I do like Pie better than Cake , BUT baking a pie inside a cake,,, well how could it get any better?
the weather as broke & I see some funny looking Brown/green stuff peaking out of the snow,,,, I think it is called Grass. ???? hahahaha
I do see a lot of Mole damage all over the yard in places I can see the grass,,, looks like the summer will be a rebuilding year for the lawn..... or we could just cover it all with Astro-turf........ ,,,, then I could get rid of the mower hahaha
Todays Hunk O Beef is in the oven with onions, celery , carrots ,garlic & red bell peppers
the Yukon gold spuds go in later ...... can fight city hall forever & not give a little ,, so she gets her beef & I get peace & quiet..... rather have piece , but I will settle for it on her terms, the heat is on in the Qtr. Deck & I have a ISOM COHIBA Churchill brought back by a Doc. Friend who went to Havana last weekend to tend to an old relative .
it will be the Second smoke of the day as I will be enjoying my beloved Don Carlos #3 with a mug of Kona first..... ahhhh yes it is Sunday !!!!
We had a little excitement in the area last night & I missed it all. the little store down the street got robbed last night , the Dumb @$$ smiled right into the security camera , so it is a matter of time before they pick him up..... , But it did get the cops away from the DUI check points & I was able to make it home with out being stopped, .... I was NOT drinking anything but coffee last night , & had my seat belt on for a change , I just don't like being stopped for no reason other than it is Saint Patricks Weekend & the green beer was flowing & the bar crawls were all over the county ,,, I see the need & understand the reasoning behind traffic stops BUT I don't want to be bothered , as Franklin said those who choose to give up a little freedom for safety deserve neither.....
I do support the police here in the township & they have a long hard row to hoe ,,,, I see both sides of the debate & I am conflicted on what side I am on .....

With all the BAD weather the shop was slow , slower than usual , but I am confident the Cigar smokers will return after Easter & the Golf season starts up again .....

The grandsons are getting along with there lives & haven't seen much of them this past week, @ 17 & 19 the last thing they need is a Grandmother micro managing them, & that's what they get when she is around, ,,, Me well I treat them like I did there mother, a playmate not a figure of authority hahahaha ,,, Just a big kid at heart & I will die like that ! later than sooner I hope

I think I will get my car detailed soon the tobacco clipping on the floor are getting deeper & the glass has a "TINT" of Brown haze ..... about 1/8 of an inch thick ! hahahaha

the bagel I had for breakfast is starting to wear off so it is time for me to get the Kona in the cup, grab a slice of COCONUT Custard PIE & get on with the days festivitys ,,,, Enjoy, Vince

Vince, you know how to live!

Looks like the rain here has finally ended for awhile. I started the day with an Oliva Vieja Mundo corona, something I'd never seen or had before; for those who don't know, it's closer to a petit corona in size and come with the head already clipped, in a cardboard package of ten. I grabbed it in an auction on the Devil Site, taking a chance simply because it's an Oliva. Turns out it's a pretty nice little smoke -- a bit rough-looking and not really in the same league with its better-known siblings, but mild and moderately tasty. Certainly nicer than a lot of little cigars I've tried, this might make a nice fishing companion.

The caffeinated accompaniment was Eight O'Clock Colombian Peaks as usual, but the pre-ground version -- I'm in the process of moving, and the grinder and coffeemaker are already packed. I brought water to a boil on the stove and used a little Melitta pour-over funnel that hasn't been packed yet; this is how I'll be doing it until I'm settled in the new place. Maybe it will encourage me to cut back on my coffee consumption -- or maybe it will just get me to unpack the coffeemaker until my last day here.

Following the Sunday morning talking heads, and it's fun hearing Hillary's defenders spin her use of a "homebrew" mail server in her home to handle all her e-mail, both official and unofficial, while SecState. Her critics claim doing so was patently illegal from the very beginning, her defenders say she did nothing wrong. But if she signed a form declaring under penalty of perjury that she had already turned over all official e-mail and other documents before she left State, she's in a potential world of hurt since she has already admitted she still had them on her server two years later. Personally, I hope it's enough to sink her Presidential aspirations, because I think we've had enough Clintons and Bushes in Washington for a generation or so. Besides, I can't buy her excuse that she didn't know she could have two separate (official, personal) e-mail accounts on a single smartphone but had the tech savvy to run her own e-mail server.

I'd probably set up my own server if I had anything to hide too -- or maybe just for the fun of learning how to do it -- but I'm too busy to bother. (But she wasn't?)

Good news from my doc this past week. I had slacked off on diabetes management and allowed my A1c (three-month "snapshot" of blood glucose) to go far too high; but it was down considerably three months ago, and down again this time around. Nothing to it -- a little more walking, a little less pasta, plenty of restful sleep every night. But I've always been lucky as Type 2 diabetics go; keeping my BG down has never taken a lot of work, just a little attention.

Sunny skies and warmer temperatures, just what I need to lift my spirits! The patio beckons, but so does the open road. My lady is under the weather, and I'm feeling restless, need something to occupy my time until she's over The Drastic Whatever -- and I need a break from packing anyway. I think I'll get the car washed, pick out something from the traveldor (most of the other cigars have already been packed for moving) and take a drive in the sunshine.

Hope your day is a good one too.
