Good morning ,, it is Sunday 6/21/15 , Fathers day ..... I always thought fathers day was 9 months before mothers day , but I guess I am wrong again hahaha , it is a hot humid rainy & down right CRAPPY day,,, I was allowed to sleep late this morning & didn't have to make breakfast , for the Wife & myself,, she took care of it ,, ( an asiago cheese bagel , lightly tossed with a bit of cream cheese & a little salmon left over from yesterdays Shushe,,,, & there was a pot of green tea to wash it down with , I have switched over to the Sunday morning Kona & all ready finished the Sunday Morning Don Carlos #3 , I do have a Davidoff Winston Churchill Corona go with next mug of coffee,, & since today is Fathers day I have over ruled the Hunk O beef or even a steak today ,,,, since its my day I picked the menu & will do all the cooking inside as it is to dammm humid to much of anything outside , 100% humidity & a nice wet downpour , the wind is light but I just don't want to play in the rain ,,,, so I went to the store yesterday & picked up a SMALL package of VEAL ,,, a light dredge in flour, an egg wash & some bread crumbs, a hot pan with butter & a few seconds per side & a squeeze of lemon into the pan & its ready,,, buttered noodles & broccoli on the side & a nice glass of some fermented grain from Bavaria with a snifter of a smokey scotch from Islay & a cigar from an island in the area just south of the tip of Fla. some Jazz on the CD player the phone turned off & I will be looking at the inside of my eye lids only opening them to find the ash tray & my drink ..... Sounds like a good day ,,,, so let it rain or do what ever mother nature has in store for us , I am ready for it .... unless the power goes out & the A/C shuts down I will be fine .....
A buddy bought a town house not to far from me & is moving Monday , so Monday evening we will be smoking a cigar on his new deck overlooking the woods & a small waterfalls , just a great location but it is 3 floors & steps no matter what you want to do up & down ,,,, I am way to old for anything more than a ranch style home , the 2 steps up to the back deck & 3 to the front are about all I want ...... no vertical living unless there is a ramp or an elevator hahahaha
the shop was a real mixed bag,,, sales were up on Tuesday & Friday we saw our share of kids & moms getting Fathers day gifts ,,, and yes there were a few MILFS & even a few Gmilfs ,,,,, just because they are grandmothers dosent mean they are not hot anymore ,,, dammmm some of them look better than the daughters hahahaha

I woke up to a bottle of Glen Farclauss 21 yo Single malt scotch sitting on the kitchen table...... No I haven't pulled the cork YET. But I plan on getting into it shortly ,,,, its not even noon here yet........ but it is 5PM some place hahaha

So today is the longest day of the year...... but we cant see the sun as the cloud cover is 100% & today is the day I try to balance an egg on its end,,,, but with the price of eggs going through the roof over 3 bucks a dozen now I will pass on breaking any that don't get cooked ,,, the outbreak of bird flu has caused a huge rise in the wholesale price of eggs & chicken as so many were killed by the flu bug & slaughtered & turned into Compost,,, the profit went up in smoke ,,,,,,

I am a supporter of the second amendment & believe in conciled carry BUT there comes a time & a place to rethink my position & I have weighed the thoughts of a lot of pro & anti gun people & still believe that an armed citizen trained to use deadly force can supprize & defend unarmed citizens from a CRAZY @$$HOLE ,,,, had one person other than the shooter with the proper training & mindset The body count would have been a lot less & there would be No need for the taxpayers to fund a judge & jury for the DUMB SOB in South Carolina ..... some namby pamby liberal will say he is sick, & needs help ,,, he needs a dose of what he gave out ,,,,, Maybe Bubby will get him in jail....... one can only hope.
this Wendsday is the sentencing of the Boston marathon bomber ...... I wonder how long the liberals will keep that piece of garbage out of the gas chamber ?
Damm I was in a good mood but looking back on the week & looking fwd to next week I guess I have made a mess of my thoughts today,,,, I need to relax & get my mind right ,,, time for a cigar yea that will help ,,, Enjoy, Vince


 
We got to downeast Maine about 3:30 PM yesterday and the stepson and his mrs. arrived about 4 PM. I cooked dinner and shortly thereafter we went out for a cigar. We had a PDR 1878 capa maduro robusto each. It started raining over night and finally slowed to an occasional drizzle at around 5 PM. A totally miserable first full day for our trip up here.
 
GOOD MORNING , IT IS SUNDAY 6/28/15 a cool wet morning here in da Burgh, we had a small tornado touch down a few miles east of us yesterday , , lots of downed power lines & trees a few homes were damaged but no loss of life Thank God . We are about 20F cooler today than the average temp (82) & the sky is covered with clouds at 100% , how ever we did have a WONDERFUL FULL Rainbow in the sky last night about 6PM .... RAIN , Rain & RAIN , that's all we have had this past week, the moss is starting to grow everyplace that is in the shade . & the weather man tells us MORE of the same this week.... the yard is a swamp & the rivers are overflowing , & out west they are Dry as a bone ..... it is a cycle of misfourtain , designed to perplex us into thinking we might NOT be in charge of anything , & globial cooling & warming are NATURAL ...... if not please explain the coming & going of the ice age? ... OK enough BS,,,,,,

Sunday morning cigar was a Cuban Monte #2 that has been in the humidor since 1962 the band had popped off a few years ago & it is showing a lot of damage from being picked up & moved over the years , the foot was cracked a bit & the cap was loose & the 4th of July is just around the bend,,, so it was TIME , & the coffee was a Tanzanian Peaberry , as I thought the Kona might be to delicate & be over powered by the monte ,,, but over the years it had mellowed & was as light as a feather, Not that Bold tobacco flavor I was expecting , but a dark ash & a smooooth body & a glass of scotch might have been GRAND with it ,,, but I was sitting very comfortable & didn't want to start drinking at 8 AM ....... wanted to BUT was to LAZY to get up hahahaha. Breakfast was cheese blintz with apple butter & a Costra Rican estate coffee But I forget what estate,,,,, the Kona is in the press pot & the DC3 is V cut and waiting for me ....
since it is only going into the low 60's today there is the traditional hunk O beef all ready in the oven.
Not much going on at the shop, the grandsons are busy with life & not much time for the old folks ,,,, number 1 grandson is getting ready to go back to Columbia SA , this time for a 5 year plan & a degree in Spanish ,,, #2 will be a SR in HS this fall & is looking for a quick way to the top in the computer world, I wish the best for both of them...


the more I see from the government the less I like it ,,, IF I wasn't tied to the comforts of life ,,, like a/c & hot water & the like I would move some place set up a solar roof & get my cigars all packed away & tell the tax man to KMA ,,, maybe just get a sail boat & & tell the world to KMA ,,,, but I have had enough of the sea from my Navy days ,,,, BUT I might change my mind & say to H3LL with it all & go for it ..... But nothing to soon.
The Justices of the Sup. court have spoken..... To bad for the USA ,, but since Gay Marrage is now OK in all states ,,,, I want to see the first one in an islamic setting hahahaha
well I have things to do , cigars to smoke coffee to sip & potato's to peal

Good morning it is Sunday 5th of July 2015 , a warm wet day here in da Burgh. We celebrated the 4th with a 5th & cigars , a burgher on the grill with onions & peppers , some zuccunni fresh out of the garden & some fresh made iced coffee . We did get to see some fireworks when we went for a ride last evening , there were so many areas with fireworks that the boss thought the traffic jams would be to much so we kept to the highways & then after dark we did get back on the secondary roads & watched for deer, bunnys & other wild creatures to dart out crossing the road.
I did have a fair night but nature called early & after I got off the toilet , the bed was all ready made so it was off to the kitchen & a mushroom & cheese egg baked in an onion shell, can you say GAS? hahahaha
I have a nice set of Pork loin chops ready to go on the grill some time today, with corn on the cob, & some garlic bread ,,,, might rip up some lettuce , but then again maybe not .... we will figure that out when its time to eat.
I have been moving stuff around & found 2 humidors jammed in the Bottom of the TV Cabnet, Glad they were empty since they were dry as a bone , so now I will be seasoning them some day & fill them with smokeable sticks .......
I have a small change of plans today , No Kona, No Don Carlos #3....... so this morning it will be Brazillian Jacu Coffee & a ISOM Partagas series d #4......... not a bad way to start the day..... My wife picked up a few sticks from a catalog at a real LOW price , & they were not bad ,,,,,,, you notice I didn't name them...... I might end up passing them out to the kids at starbucks , I love coffee & cigars but am not a top smoker of coffee flavored cigars ....they have there place & I do smoke them a few times a year. After a BIG meal when there is no coffee .......
The grandsons are busy & getting ready for the next adventure of life & I am getting ready for the next adventure of Retirement ,,,,, still thinking about hanging it up & starting to sleep late & go to bed early,,, eating at 4/4:30 & driving in the left lane at about 30 MPH with my turn signal on .......

with all the political BS going on in this world & feel like getting off the grid , stop watching TV & listening to the radio , I am just TIRED of the BULL$HIT. from the trouble in Grease to the clintons foundation, & the actions of our congress , courts & white house
I just say I have had enough bad news for a lifetime ,,, so I loose myself with pleasures of the cigars, coffee, single malt Whiskys & CD's .... no BS from the talking heads .

Good morning it is Sunday 7/12/15 a warm overcast day here in da Burgh. we have been having a wet summer feels more like the Pacific NW than it should . the yard is a sponge & we are loosing trees almost every day , roads closed as the crews remove the up rooted trees & when they come down the power goes out , , No power , NO A/C ,,, so I have been spending a lot more time on the back deck than I have in the Qtr. Deck , cigar consumption is down, its just to hot & humid to sit outside & smoke a fine cigar ,,,, the humidity is just making it uncomfortable & causing the wrappers to Snap Crackel & Pop .... , just like a bowl of rice crispys ,, & believe me when its to hot for a snifter of single malt , you know its uncomfortable,,, ,, I even switched to ICE TEA instead of Hot coffee, But Sunday Breakfast did include a press pot of Kona , & a visit from my great friend Don Carlos #3 , and speaking of breakfast it was a Swiss cheese scrambled egg with a slice of dark German whole wheat toast. & today is MY DAY OFF FROM COOKING ,,,,,, we have plans to go out today , so no hunk O beef or grill time in the heat ,,, a nice A/C place with a great wait staff & kitchen help.. but the wait staff will be loosing its best worker the end of this month as My grandson will be returning to Columbia SA for a job & school. a 5 year program so the next time he is home will be a LONG TIME , I have a round trip ticket back home waiting for him if the need comes up, like a death in the family but short of that he will be gone for 5 years this time .... who knows what will happen between now & then & if he will come home then,,, he might just stay ,,,, who knows ?????
I have a few things to do today beside cigars & what ever , , I need to attempt to rub out a scratch on my daughters car that my grandson did last week, & need to get a little silicon seal on a few self tapping screws on the back deck as we had a new gutter installed & the hangers were not in the orginal spaces so new holes were made & a few of them drip when it rains ,,, so I will take care of that today ,,, I hope.....
On a much more personal note , I have a short plan for my 45th wedding anniv. coming up Aug.15th... I want to take the wife to the Rock & Roll hall of fame in Cleveland Ohio. ,,, But she isn't sure if she wants to go , BUT I don't have a plan B to celebrate with...... What to do ???? 45 years of a confusing life with a wife ..... they make everything complicated ,,,, some things need planning & time to get off the ground, $$$ needs to be set away for the trip, a reservation need's to be made for a hotel , sure its close enough to drive but I want to relax & not have a 2.5 hour drive home after a long day in Cleveland..... ,,, she still cant commit to going ,,,, so I should just make the plans & tell her , pack a bag we are going..... NOW.
A good week at the shop ,sales were good , & I had some time to sit relax & listen to the music , a great mix of down time & customers .... ,

I have a free day today nothing to do but what the wife asks for , , she is reading the sunday Paper & I have a few cigars that have been calling my name for a few weeks & today I might listen,,, an OLD ,,,, O L D ISOM Davidoff Corona that has a tint crack on the foot that is getting bigger so I want to fire it up before it gets bad,,,, there is a Hemming way maduro Masterpiece in the same condition ,,,,, maybe BOTH hahahaha , & why not,,, I am tired of "SAVING" a cigar for a special day,,,, dam at my age every day above ground is a Special day ,,,,, so today I will smoke them BOTH & might have a little Mexican cauctus juice that spent some time in a dark old barrel, and is now the color of a deep dark honey & a slightly smokey nose ,,, it just might make a good pairing for the Davidoff , but the Hemmingway will have Coffee, at room temp & maybe a weee dram on the side I have a nice YOUNG Brundahabbine that just might be the correct spirit for that cigar today or maybe an Oban ,,, I do want some thing light ,,,,, hummm maybe some Gin ,,, its been a long time since I pulled the cork on some gin.......... But I do like my Islay SCOTCH.

I know Berney Sanders is a socialist , he is honest about that , & that makes me like him better than anyone else running on the D party, & a circus is in town on the R side of the ticket... GOD help us
I need to clear my head thing about all that BS coming out of Europe , Washington DC , the middle East & Africia ,,, from same sex partners , and the bunch of luni tunes called a church protesting at Fallen Hero's Funerals, Thank God for the Paterate Riders who shield the grief striken familys from this bunch of Misguided @$$HOLES

Hot day again here today Vince. I know what you mean about saving cigars for that special occasion as well as every day above ground being special. I don't know why everyone is so worked up about the sex things going on- what will be will be- leave them alone I say. There are many more important things to be concerned about. They should hold the republican debate with all the candidates under the big top and bring a few elephants in too. I'm a Bernie fan and so are my grandkids. I think he would bring in some progressive changes that the country really needs and make America and better place. Trump's anti-Mexican rhetoric is way to reminiscent of what happened in Germany in the 30's and is bringing out the white supremacists and crazies to his rallies. Not sure why cigars crack in high humidity, but I must be doing something right as I don't seem to have much of a problem. I've heard many stories of Gurkhas exploding, but have yet to experience it while smoking at least a hundred of them. I'm still trying to catch up in my veggie garden from my late June vacation. This year has been difficult and I don't think it will be a good year. The snap peas are starting to produce and a growing taller than I ever remember. I'll be having some for dinner tonight and will be delivering many to the neighbors. It's the only crop that looks pretty good except for the weeds.

I want to get this off my shoulders right away,,,,, END GUN FREE ZONES NOW. I am a nobody , just a guy working every day trying to provide a service & lend a little hospitality to the masses, BUT EVERY DAY I CARRY ...... 99 % of the time it is a small 5 shot .38 no extra ammo, strictly DEFENCIVE , if I want an officencive wepon , It would be a belt feed 12 gage .... OR BIGGER . Ok that's the rant...

a good week at the shop , a few bumps in the road with some of the people who I need to deal with , but it will all work out when I retire AGAIN..... sales were good & the weather was fine , I was able to leave the A/C & open the doors , making it a haven for the fly's, but a rolled up newspaper took care of some & the room freshner spray got the rest hahaha
This coming Saturday will be the going away party for my grandson as he is going back to Columbia SA this time for 5 years ( his time line ) ,,,,, Going to miss him a lot .... I have a little money set aside to send him if some thing comes up & he needs to return on short notice , I have his plane fair ready.
since it is so dam hot out I don't plan on cooking outside , it is a quick pan meal , chicken breast in butter, & microwave red skin spuds & a some light dressed greens with a BIG glass of iced tea.....
I have been digging deep in the humidor this past week & smoking some GRAND old cigars , a few 75th Anniv. Montes & the last of the Partagas 150's in the humi, I guess its time to start on the 160's . a couple of ISOMS of different vintages & sizes , some GRAND some so- so .I think the best smoke I had all week was the Don Carlos #3 that I just finished,,,, & the next best smoke will be what ever is Next hahahaha , I live for the moment & try not to dwell in the past but then we all are living in the past... as soon as I type some thing it is History, it is the past, just a nano second but still the past..... & by the time I post it & you read it ,,,, HISTORY.....
a cheese omlet graced the breakfast plate this morning , a slice of bacon & a piece of toasted Dark German Wheat bread with a dab of apple jelly & a pot of medium dark Sumatra coffee...... the cold pressed Kona was a great back up to the DC#3, I will be heading out to the Qtr. Deck as soon as the A/c catches up to the outside temp & starts to cool it ,,,,it was all ready 88 inside & only 84 out,,, so when it gets below 80 Then I will head out for the next cigar of the day,,,, what ever it might be

Good morning it is Sunday 7/26/15 a warm clear day here in da Burgh. This mornings cigar was a Padron anniv.64 Princippe maduro & the coffee was Kona a nice way to start the day , breakfast was bacon & eggs with a slice of dark German style wheat toast ,,,, still with some of the entire grain in the flour , giving it a nut like texture . I have a big slab of Cod soaking in a mix of whole milk & 5 spice powder , it will get a tempora batter & deep fried later today with some red fingerling potatoes ,,, I wanted to grill the fish but I was over ruled by the tasting judge & since it is going to be a HOT day here in da Burgh I think cooking inside is a little better than standing over a hot grill outside .
I have the a/c on in the Qtr. Deck for later today I was comfortable on the back deck early today but the temp & Humidity are going up.
To cool things down a bit I have a peppermint cake in the fridge & that should go well with the fish & fries
Last night was a going away party for my grandson,,, he is leaving Wed. for Columbia S.A. .... this is his second time there , last time it was for a year , this time it will be for 5 years ,,,,,, I will miss him a lot & wish him well he is a YOUNG MAN now not that toddler I took to the zoo,,, & sat in the audience when he was Learning to play the piano, now an accomplished player ,composer & all around good kid he is going back to finish his studys & get on with his life. I wish him well.
Number 2 grandson is going to be a Sr. in HS this year & is looking at a few schools for Computer Science & Partys ,,, party with the computer geeks ???? sounds exciting.

the shop was a mixed bag, the weather was nice all week & sales were good for the most part , a few of the show orders starting coming in all ready & I was busy restocking the humidors , but one day , Wed. or Thur. I don't remember whish , was DEAD , like we were closed or something , I sell more by accident when we are closed than I did one day ..... such is life ...

Good morning it is Sunday Aug.2,2015 a warm clear day here in da Burgh. A good week at the shop & one week has passed since my grandson went back to Columbia SA , this time for 5 years .... a tramatic week for me ,,,, He posted a photo on face book & the smile & look on his face tells me he is Happy , & that is all I needed ,just to know he is happy & enjoying his life , he is fallowing his dream, & that is all I can ask, sure I miss him but he is happy & that's enough.

I felt kind of lazy this morning & breakfast was a bagel & a biscotti & coffee, & I started the day with a Diamond Crown #3 , a lot larger ring than the Don Carlos #3 and much lighter taste , ,,,, I miss the zip & spice ,,,,, when some thing isn't broken why try to fix it ??? so I will try to remember ,,, go with the Don Carlos #3 next Sunday & stop looking for the right one when you have it in your hand.....

There are a few chicken breasts in the fridge that will be getting close to the grill later today along with a yam & eggplant, , all grilled with a nice fresh peach for desert,

A FEW THINGS HAVE BEEN GETTING UNDER MY SKIN THIS PAST WEEK,,,, FIRST,,,, wHO CARES ABOUT A 13yo LION ,,, people calling for the hunters head,,,, BUT no one is up in arms about the killing of a bunch of Navy & Marine recruters ,,,,, WHAT IS WRONG WITH SOME PEOPLE? , the president had to be shamed into lowering the white house flag to half staff to HONOR them, , I guess I am glad my grandson is in Columbia SA , away from the madness that is going on here ,,,, he is in a small town on the eastern side of the country up in the mountains & away from all the MADNESS of being Political correct. I for one AM AGAINST political correctness, I tell it like it is ,,,, Not as off the wall as the Donald ,,, I don't have the cash behind me to be that bold & out there , if he makes a wrong move he can toss a ton of cash at the problem & it goes away , I don't have that luxury , & I must,,,, or should temper my, actions accordingly BUT I just cant ....... call it like I see it , well that can get you on the short list of not being invited to things & I do enjoy people & the interplay between 2 people from opposite ends of the political spectrum,,,, a God fearing second amendment supporter VS a winey liberal who wants to make peace with the Jahadist by letting them have an atomic bomb..... .
Some times I wonder if this is the end of time as we know it , GREAT civilizations have come on gone through out time ,,,, & is it our time to step down & let the Bugs take over ? ,,,,, to much to think about on a wonderful Day, so it is time for the pot of COLD PRESSED KONA a ISOM Partagas series D #4 , & a little Jazz ( America's Music) & maybe a weee dram from Scotland,,, there is just a sip of Glenfarclas 21YO left & I think it is time to filter it through my kidneys & liver ......

Good morning , it is Sunday 8/9/15 a warm sunny some what humid day here in da Burgh. , NOt much to say today , it was a slow week here at home and the shop, the #1 grandson is back in Columbia SA & the #2 grandson is getting ready to be a SR. in HS ,,,,, dammmmmm I feel O L D.
the wife picked up a new grill pan this past week & we made bacon & cheese omelets this morning , the pan worked just fine , the old one was USED UP , it has been a great pan but over the years it has lost its magic & started to warp , would not sit flat on the burner, or in the oven, , I thought of taking a hammer to it to see if I could return it to its old glory But she picked up a larger size of the same make & it is working just fine,,,, I have no idea where she found it .
This mornings Coffee & cigar was a mix of 5 different central American coffees from light to dark roast from high mountain estate coffees to GOD knows what coffees, , just a few beans from 5 different places all dumped together & brewed in the press pot over night with cold water, , 30 seconds in the micro wave & it is ready ..... & the cigar was a ISOM Partagas serie D #4....... Not a bad way to start the day.
the next pot will be a blend of Sumatra & Indian Coffee ,,,, I am cleaning out the coffee locker & will be re arranging the freezer next.
I have some Italian Sausage , yellow squash & corn on the cob to get grilled today , I might make a peach cobbler on the grill if the Boss wants it ....
I did NOT watch the debate on Thursday I have enough interpay with the Boss & customers to watch a bunch of POWER Hungry rich people rip each other to shreds whe they should rally behind one or 2 of the canidates & rip the top off the can of snakes under hillirys bed.
if Gen. Patraus is guilty so is she ..... what happened to the 6 BILLION , sure you can loose a few hundred thousand , here & there , giving the wrong change for a million dollar bill, or over paying an invoice here or there But 6 BILLION is a real hunk of cash,,, but hillary cant seam to find it ....... Trump might be right, its time to stop political correctness & get back to what the Founding Fathers started out with,,,, I for one am ready to pass a drug test for all well fair people,,, if you have a cell phone, drive to the bar & smoke after paying for everything with your well fair card, then you need to get off your @$$ & get a J O B ..... I have worked all my life ,,,, starting out in the family resturaunt when I was a Kid cleaning tables & washing dishes sweeping the floor & taking out the trash, I have WORKED all my life,,, I retired 13 years ago & have 2 part time jobs ever since ,,, for 4 years I put in 25 hours a week at a local radio station on air about 20 hours a week, from 9 to noon Monday to Friday you would hear my Baratone/ Bass voice on 1460 WMBA / 1230 WBVP , & for the past 9 years I have been calling King Beaver Cigars in Monaca Pa my "retirement " job.....
so you don't have a skill , GET ONE, Oh you don't like to get up early in the morning ,,,, GET a night Job,,,, FEND for your self, I believe in giving a hand Up not a hand OUT.
I am at a time in my life I need to stay active,,, I would wither on the vine if I didn't GO TO WORK 4 days a week,,,, 6 hours every Tue, Wed & Thurs, & 12 Hours on Friday ,,, open the shop at NOON , I get there about 11:15/30 & get the coffee on the humidors filled lights on bathroom some what clean, take out the trash if its needed, & get the Music started,,,, open the doors get the FLAG out ,,,,, READY to sell cigars
My daughter & grandsons all have a work ethic, I doubt it very much if any of them ever become unemployed for very long ,,, JOB SECURITY is in your ability to preform .... dosent matter what the job is, do it the best you can,,,,,, I got on the air by fate, I was working as a Board operator, playing commercials durning games & making voice over spots in the studio.... well one day one of the on air people had an argument with the station owner ,,, I was there & instead of dead air,,,, a radio personality was born,,, the right place at the right time , No raise in pay , but I didn't care ,,,, I HAD A JOB.

Good morning it is Sunday 8/16/15 a hot hazy humid day here in da Burgh. with goof on the roof ( our local weather Prognostacater) said it will be in the low to mid 90's here today ,,,, the A/C is all ready on in the Qtr. DECK but it is ok for the morning Don Carlos on the back deck with the press pot of Kona , then it will be in the Qtr. DECK for the rest of the days cigars .
Yesterday was our 45th wedding anniv. , I had planned a day going to the Rock & roll hall of fame in Cleveland, or spending the day at Erie or Geneva on the lake Ohio or going to Findly lake NY or Jamestown NY ( the wife is a BIG Lucy fan & there are a few musiums of the I love Lucy shows in Jamestown ( her Birthplace) ,,,, well the day didn't go as planned, we ended up at a furniture store & picked out a new couch & chair for the living room, it should be here Monday ,,,,, the couch only 8 years old , a recliner at both ends , just had enough & the frame snapped & the place we got it is out of business. So it changed the scope of the day & we spent a bit more than I had budgeted for the day , & way more than I wanted to spend on new furniture,,, I had not planed on spending anything on furniture ,,,,,, & that is the end of the story, funds depleted from my Cigar money ,,,,, well as they say $HIT happens ...
Breakfast was a salmon cream cheese filled asiago cheese bagel ,& the pot of Columbian AA was just a warm up to the Cold pressed Kona & the Don Carlos #3. I do have 2 Porterhouse steaks in a light marinade of Italian dressing , worchesthire , & some herbs . it will go on the grill & medium well for the wife & RARE for me , a salad of leafe lettuce bacon & sour cream, & I might add a slice of sweet onion to it , but the bulk of the onion will be grilled to a golden brown & served with the BEEF. I am in a toss up of the beverage for the nice hunk of Beef, should I open a grand old RED wine or a Crisp malty hoppy beer? ,,,,, maybe just a glass of iced tea ? time will tell.
the shop was a busy place all week but Thursday I could have phoned it in , all the rest of the week was way above average, & it was so slow on Thursday I almost fell asleep .....
Grandsons are doing well #1 is getting settled in Columbia SA , starts teaching English soon. #2 is going to be a Sr. in HS & has 2 jobs right now, one at a local tavern as a dish washer & at the local K mart as a stock boy.... plus he is doing computer work out of his home ,,, building custom computers for anyone with CASH. Both of them are motivated to do well.
For the past 40 + years there has been a cow pasture next to me & the property has been sold the cows have been gone a few years , but the field has remained Empty ,,,, last week a new road was cut in & a small shed erected with a large overhead power line running to it ,,, the word on the street is a pizza shop / restaurant with a large parking lot ....... dammmmmm its been nice here the past 40 years, when I first built here I was the only one on the road for about 1/2 of a mile ,,, now I have people 150 feet away. the traffic has increased 10 fold over the past 40+ years we have been here , NOW a BUSINESS is moving in , dammmm Progress. I was hoping to live out my "Golden" years sitting on the back deck smoking cigars sitting in my boxers & not having a care in nthew world, now the traffic is so heavy I have been wearing headphones to listen to the radio,, & my wife Insisted I put on Pants or shorts to sit outside ,,,, Dammm Progress hahaha ..... well I guess that's about all I have this week , after watching the circus on TV , I wonder if I will still be an American when I die.... the world is in a state of flux & No one I see in any political position is going to be able to Fix it ..... time to move off the grid & & become self employed, self sustaining & a hermit if you must..... I toss a middle finger to the jerks who are running for office , yes , Jerks, what can I say about the wonce wonderful democratic party, running a corrupt , lying , DISBARRED lawyer & a self proclaimed socialist for president,,, & the GOP with the big top open to the public,,,, what a circus ,,,
I am disappointed in BOTH party's

Spent a week not far from Findley lake ten or so years ago and did much of what the area had of interest, including a trip to Jamestown and the lake Erie wineries. Nice country around Findley lake and went past the Snipes farm at least once. Hot here too- buy we did get a little rain and thunder last night.
 
Good morning it is Sunday 8/23/15 a cool dry morning here in da Burgh. The couch and chair were delivered last Monday & we have a few weeks for the next chair to come from the factory,,, No hurry it will get here soon....... I hope , next will be window treatment & what ever else she wants to do ,,, I have no problem with her redecorating , as long as I can watch from the Qtr.DECK or the back deck or from the shop ,,, GO to it , what ever makes you happy ,,, I don't care what color it is , or style,,, what ever makes her happy is fine with me .
the road between my home & the local shopping center is getting a make over , wider & repaved , work starts at 9 PM & finishes about 6 am since there is so much traffic they work at night & clog up the few night time travelers,,, making it real tuff to get to $t@rbuck$ after 9 PM as the all ready BUSY road is slowed down & reduced to one alternating lane in places ,,,,,, 40 years ago when I moved here , between me & the high way was a stop sign,,,,,,, now there are15 traffic lights covering the same road.... Progress ,,, BULL$HIT .... I loved it here ( and still do ) but the Rural area I moved into has become a Suburb of da BURGH ,,,, I had a cow pasture next to me , angus beef on the hoof, ,,, no more the beef is gone & it is a field of weeds , with rumors of the wood fired oven bakery & pizza shop to be built on the site , more Progre$$$$$ ,,, MORE BULL$HIT..... the access road has been cut in & there is a small shack with power lines running to it but nothing else has happened . YET...
Breakfast was a mixed grill of onions, peppers & fresh right out of the garden , tomato & breakfast sausage , with eggs & hot pepper cheese, all washed down with a" Zim-Bob-Why", estate coffee ,,,, yep that's how it is printed on the bag,,,,, , I picked up a few pounds of it unroasted & have made a few different batches from light to dark & have sampled all of the different roasts & have not been able to pick a clear winner ,,, so I mixed them all together & that's what the final product is ,,,, not outstanding but a good cup o Joe.
there are 2 strip steaks in the fridge sitting in a light mix of herbs , spices , oil & lemon juice ,,, should hit the grill some time about 4PM or 5 ,,, when ever I get to it ,,,, some grilled broccoli & baked peaches with butter pecan ice cream to top it off ...
the shop & the grandsons are all holding on , no news is good news ,,, every thing is going well . FOR A CHANGE ,,,, AMEN !!!!
I have been digging into the bottom of the deepest buried humidor & come up with some great OLD sticks & have been enjoying a few fruits from the forbidden tree going about 90 miles from FLA. ,,, a great Partagas seried D #4 , a Monte #2 & a few old relicks from the late 60's from Punch & Hoyo ,,,, some real world class smokes ,,,, every one was a 97+ ,,, a single malt Irish , a few single malt scotches , & a lot of different coffee's went into the tasting & paring ,,, along with some delta blues , & a bit of Bach to fill the ears,,,, it was a great week.

good morning it is Sunday 8/30/15 a warm humid day here in da Burgh., Weather wise we have had a great string of warm days & cool nights & the bugs have been almost gone ,,,, BUT I never understood why Noah didn't squash the fly's when he had the chance !
^The New school year has started & grandson #2 had his Last ,, First day of High School, he is a SR. this year ,,, I remember My Sr . Year & his Mothers Sr. Year,,,, dammm I am feeling Older than I should,,, I never thought how different life would be today when I was just a Kid, never thought about becoming a father or a grandfather , & some day a GREAT GRANDFATHER, & that will make my daughter a grandmother & that will reallllly piss her off hahahaha ,

Breakfast this morning was a NY special,,, lox & bagel ... just didn't feel like cooking this morning , so a little cream cheese, a slice of tomato , sweet onion , & a nice slice or 2 or 3 of Nova lox ,,,, coffee was Sumatra ..... , stick the bagel under the broiler for a few seconds & get a nice toasty surface & that's all it needed , , build up the cream cheese onion & tomato, stack on the lox & that's all ,,,, simple ( like me ) & great flavor,,, what more can you ask for ?
I have a pork loin that will be stuffed with a veggie mix on todays menu should be ready some time about 4/4:30 ,,, depends on what time I get it on. I was thinking about the grill , but the weather man said it MIGHT rain & I just don't want to mess with the rain so it will hit the oven & then I can relax & not worry about the outside kitchen getting wet. , There is a roof but no walls on 3 sides , so when the wind blows everything gets wet & I just don't want to deal with it today... I will be in the Qtr.Deck if it rains , so I have my basic coverage , music & A/C ,,,, & a NEW Exaust fan on order! going from a 6 inch bathroom fan to a 12 inch kitchen fan ,,,, should keep the air a bit clear... I hope!
the shop did its average thing , nothing special , just a same old same old ......
The road construction season is in full swing & the detours are under construction as well as the main roads , so getting from A to B has been a real night mare ,, when I moved here 40+ years ago there were 2 stop signs between my home & the Pa. Turnpike & I -79 crossing of state route 19..... the 2 stop signs are still there PLUS 13 /14/15 Traffic lights ,,, I haven't counted them in a long time & it seams like more & more are springing up all the time! , I am less than 5 miles from $tarbucks an easy 10 minutes from my home,,, with the road work it took 58 minutes ,,,, 58 minutes,,,,, I could have walked there in 45 minutes ..... By the time we got there I had to go to the bathroom ,, to drain all the coffee & get my under ware realigned as there were tied in a knot from sitting in traffic for almost an hour...... dammmm its H3ll getting old,,, but I guess it beats NOT getting older!

the press pot of Kona went well & it is time to sit back & enjoy a cup or 2 with a ISOM Partagas series d #4 ..... the Don Carlos #3 will be #2 today ,,,,, maybe ,,, who knows if something else catches my eyes , nose & taste buds ,,,, you never know !

Vince, my wife became a great grandmother this spring and I guess that makes me a great step grand father. My oldest granddaughter got married recently, so I may be the real thing before too long. I remember when we considered grandparents old, but I still don't feel old.
 
Congraz on the new baby this spring, why is it now we are hearing about it or did I just miss it?



 
Dunno if I posted anything or not - spring was crazy and it's not getting much better. Went to the Vet's with the cat this morning for her annual. My daughter worked there part time when she was in high school and I mentioned to the doc that she was 42 on Saturday and graduated college with high honors this spring. He said time goes by faster the older you get. It does seem to be that way.

Good morning , it is Sunday 9/6/15 a HOT HUMID day here in da Burgh. The Day before Labor day , it was a S L O W week at the shop , just to dam hot & humid to have a cigar,,,,, the diehard guys were there , but the fair weather smokers all stayed home ..... I even cut back my self, this week I averaged 4 a day ,,,,, a BIG drop from my average of 10 ..... I did switch from Corona to Toro, but that isn't much of an issue, I still started with the Don Carlos #3 ,,,, so that just didn't change my taste ,,,,,
& speaking of taste,,,,, Breakfast was a nice small plate of French toast, just 2 slices of pumpkin bread, dipped in an egg wash, & grilled with BUTTER ,,,, almost like fried cake ! , yep great for the diet hahaha
the coffee was some thing new the wife picked up at the coffee roaster in New Brighton Pa , Antiquia ,,, an heirloom coffee so she was told ,,,, but so smooth & flavor filled No aftertaste , just a great cup,,, not sweet, not acid, just mellow all the way down,,, the smoothest coffee I have had in years , the roast was medium dark & it reminded me of the coffee I had at the Embers resort in Carlillse Pa , that was a GRAND cup of coffee, for sure.... some on asked if it would be harder for me to give up cigars or coffee,,,,, & my reply was LIFE . my day starts with coffee & ends with a cigar , with few cups & sticks though out the day all jammed together ,,,,, some time late afternoon , or even early afternoon I do switch to a low test form of coffee yes I do drink Decalf ,,,, only out of self preservation,,,, the heart palpatations , & sleepless nights were starting to take over & it was not any fun,,,, so I cut back on the caffine & added more decalf coffee to the pot , & soon I was sleeping sound all night & the racing heart calmed down & soon the taste buds were OK with the new brew,,,,, I switch off on the style & country of origine for the decalf & some of it is dammmmm good ,,,, just a great flavor with out the JOLT,,,, but I do miss that ....

Last week my wife & I got to Skype with the grandson in Columbia , he is having a great time ,,, started to teach English in a Spanish speaking country ,,, & talking to him in English was getting him a bit confused as he never hears English much any more & told us he is thinking in Spanish so he has to translate what we say to Spanish in his head,,,, much like he had to do when he went there before he heard Spanish & had to translate it to English ,,,, now he is just thinking in Spanish so it is all reversed ,,,, I have enough trouble with just English....

it has been H O T ,,, High Humidity & the boss wants a beef roast today,,,,, so I will be fireing up the oven & getting her the Hunk O beef, ,,, but for labor day I will be out on the grill , with hot dogs, sausage & what ever else falls out of the freezer ,,,, the last "official" BBQ day of the summer, how ever I will be grilling & chilling all winter long if I can !
#2 grandson got a job at the local K mart...... why I have no idea , he is a SR. in High school.... a job will be his the rest of the time here on earth,,,, but he wants cash in his pocket & is willing to work for it ,,,,,, GOOD for him ... he see's people collecting checks from the government ,,, he wants to be the person paying for the checks , as long as he has enough to do what he wants he isn't worried how his tax money is spent,,, I give him credit for being so open minded , BUT I wonder how long it will last as he gets up to go to work & his battery is dead from the sub zero night & the guy up the street is still sleeping & collecting the mighty check every month..... I give him credit when credit is due BUT I will place a wager that by the time he is 21 he will have a change of heart, & get a more concervative attutide ,,, who knows he might just go the other way & become more like the guy up the street,,,, BUT I hope not..... we need workers not takers.

some time today I need to get some stuff moved in the Qtr. Deck as I am getting a LARGER exhaust fan installed Tuesday ,,, the little bathroom fart fan just isn't doing the job so we are having a contractor install an "EXHAUST" fanon the end & adding an intake vent on the other end of the room, ,,, going to turn it into a wind tunnel & then I can stop hearing about how smokie it is in there ,,, it never bothers me , so shut up,,,,, but now I am having a hard time seeing the people on the couch so I figure its time hahahaha , the oold fan is right above the computer & that's where the new fan will go ,,, so its time to MOVE everything again,,,, maybe I might run the vac over the floor ..... hahahaha MAYBE is the operative word.
I have been stepping up my game a little going up in the Quality of the smoke & getting into some of the stuff I put away years ago,,, a few more AVOS are getting smoked & a few of the Davidoffs are seeing the light of day after a few years in the humidor,,, my stock of ISOM's has been taking a big hit as well, the Padron Anniv. 26's & 64's are at an all time low ,,, I have been digging into the stash of Casa Fuente's , & God of Fire as well, I haven't had a Yard Gar all week....... that will change today ,,,, its an all yard gar day after the Don Carlos , ....... Bundle city time ,,, got to reset the taste buds & remind them where they were 30 years ago,,,, looks like it will be a Marsh wheeling & El Producto Day hahahahaha

Good morning it is Sunday 9/13/15 a COOL dry day here in da Burgh. The sun is out and the clouds are big puffy cotton balls & it looks a lot warmer out than it is . The trees have started to drop a few leaves but they are still mostly green, we haven't gotten the change of season yet,,, but it is close . The Boss is going shopping with our daughter, & one of her friends & her sister, so I have the day to myself, don't need to cook for her so I will make myself some shrimp later today, Breakfast was a bagel & a Bartlett pear ,,,, so the clean up was not an issue this morning.
Grandson #2 is working at the local K mart & is a Sr. in high school, while grandson #1 in Columbia SA teaching English to the Spanish speaking people , I was able to Skype with him & he is having a little trouble with thinking in English , getting his Spanish & English all mixed up,,, I think the beer might have had some thing to do with that ! .
The shop was a mixed bag , some days were over the average & way above or WAY BELOW, the end sum for the week was just average, but had all the days been like Tuesday & Friday , dammm I could have a great month.....
not much going on , just work & family BS ,,, I haven't spent much time in the kitchen But I have been smoking a lot of great OLD cigars.... my humidors are showing wood at the bottom,,,,,,, time to reload a few of them....
I have a pot of Kona ready to go , & a Don Carlos President that is getting a nice amount of blume ,,,,,, taste buds are working overtime !

good afternoon , it is monday 9/14/15 a warm sunny day here in da burgh,,, i have spent the last few hours cleaning out the Qtr. deck and have taken a break,,, stll have a lot to do but i needed a cigar & some coffee, so I took a break..... i am smoking a T11 from alec bradly,,, a discontinued line but ooooo so good . the coffee is a medium roast columbian ......... I still have a lot to do , all winter & summer I wa out here smoking & playing CD's & now it is time to put them all back in some sort of an order & finally clean the ashtrays ,,,,,, the floor has been vacummed & the doors are wide open , the new exaust fan is working great & I am enjoying the last few warm days of summer as I have a lot of leaves starting to fall all ready,,, it will not be long untill the snow is here,,,, the furnace kicked on about 2 am ,, it did drop into the low 40's last night,,, not a happy camper about that ,,, but it is the time of the year for things like that to happen,,, heat at night .. a/c during the day...
with the change of weather the boss isnt feeling that well,,,, a sore throat ,,, I can only hope larnegitus is next,,, then I get a little break from the nagging hahahahaha

took all the empty cigar boxes to the gut across the street, I dont know what he is going to do with them but he asked for them ,,,, & he has them now ,,, about 25 or 30 emptys a BIG lawn & leafe bag ,,, FILLED to the top. they were taking up a lot of room ... I also got rid of the rocker/ recliner ... it has seen better days & the trash man was happy to take it ..... as i look arround , i see a lot of great cigars have been smoked here A LOT OF THE WORLDS PROBLEMS WERE DISCUSSED & PROBLEMS SOLVED . we will be holding our tuesday night get togethers again as soon as the weather breaks & it is to cold to sit outside & smoke ... ahhh the BS will be deep & the scotch will flow... . but it will be on alternating tuesday nights ,,,, not every tuesday as before, the first & third tuesday ,,,, from 7;30 till 10 pm .... no more late nights as I will be going to the VA wed. morning for therapy for my back... I need to be in Butler VA hospital at 7 am every wensday till 9 am , shower & come back home & go to the shop. by noon,, it is about 38 miles one way so I will be getting up at zero dark thirty to be on time ,,,

I dont feel like cooking today so I am heading to arbys for a roast beef or maybe a ruben,,,, I have no idea what the boss will want,,, so I better get done with this posting & get the roof open on the car & go get some food .... Enjoy, Vince
