Good afternoon to all & a happy new year

I am in the Qtr.Deck this afternoon with a big mug of eathopian estate something or other . no idea what it is.... what ever it is,,, it is dammm good.
I am suprized the computer out here works on line. it is so old there is no sound anymore, a 20+ year old CPU,,, I used this back when Dial up was the only option !!!! a blast from the past !
new years eve came & went, in bed by 12:20and back up at 8 am. didnt do much in cleebration,,, had a weee dram at midnight & went to bed.... ahhh the memories of the youth ,,, out all night & jump in the River with the Polar bear club in the morning,,, not hung over,,, still drunk ! but now as the next generation of crazy young people is comming of age , it is time to pass the torch & retire my childish ways hahahahaha yea like that will ever happen. I just know the body cant take it like it did 30 years ago.
We finished up the Christmas ham this morning , with some eggs & toast, a pot of kona & the last og the fruit cake,,, yes I do eat that stuff .... all that is left of the ham is the bone and a few scraps ,,, soup on monday,,,
the left over pork & sour kraut will get re heated for the last time today,, what ever is left over will go to the raccoons , skunks & crows digging in the compost pile ...
between Christmas & new years , sales at the shop were WAY behind last years numbers ...... so for the sales boosting sales the numbers tell me .... to big of a discount ,,, and the total number of stick was also lower this time than last.... by the time you pay the utilitys and the help, pay for the inventory,,, is it worth the time and effort ? I thought by now I would be getting ready to retire again ,,,, but it looks like it will be an idea put on hold again.
Got to skype with the grandson last week,,,, he is doing well and is happy,, what more could i ask for... grandson #2 will turn 18 on the 14th ,,, ... I was in the navy just after my 18th birthday,,, Idont see him doing that....

the weather here in da burgh has finnly gotten cold,,, we had the warmest december of my life and now it is in the low 30's ,,, with single didgets forcast for lows this week. ....
time for a new cigar,,, the dc3 is just about finished and i have a lot of old cigars in the humidor's that need smoked, like the next one that will be getting fired up... an isom partagas series d #4 from 2001 ..... it is time ! . enjoy, vince

Good morning it is Sunday 1/10/16 a cool wet day here in da burgh. So far I haven't had to move the snow shovel, a light broom is all that was needed & there is NO SNOW on the ground here right now.... wet and rain is about all we have had ,, you don't shovel RAIN... Amen,, the Boss had the pin taken out of her wrist on Tuesday& has good movement in the fingers ,,, just cant pick up much weight yet, No broom or shovel for her YET. , I asked the doc if she was not allowed the broom how would she get around town ? they didn't think it was funny .....
the hunk O beef is in the oven & the boss is "cleaning" the mess I made & cleaned up , but not to her specifications ...... Breakfast was a bacon & cheese scrambled egg , not an omelet ,,,,, , looser , softer & not all in one section.... just got lazy & used a wooden spoon to stir the eggs in the pan & slid them out ,,,,

I have picked up the fountain pen after a long absence ,, I did do calligraphy at one time but the years haven't been kind to my artistic nature, But after a long absence I just started practicing , & dammmm it looks OK , to many years on the key board & posting via computer the hand written letter is a throwback to much simpler time.
if there was a way to write it out , put it in the copy machine & post the hand writing to the net,,,,, BUT dammm that would take up a lot of time & SPACE on the site ,,, not that I don't have the time hahaha, about now all I have is time & little of it left ..... so I will enjoy it any way I can.... Last night we went for a cigar ride , & I stopped & picked up a Bottle of scotch , ( bet you didn't see that coming ) , I put it on the back seat headed for a cigar shop an other suprize hahaha ..... , got home with the wife and a stop at Charbuck$, opened the door to get the whisky & it rolled off the seat onto the drive was,,,,,,,, needless to say the asphalt smells much better to day that it did yesterday,,,,, , the bottom came off the bottle like it had been cut with a lazer ,,,, OH well better luck next trip ..... But the cigars are well cared for & resting in the Humidor.....

Coffee this morning is a POT of Charbuck$ espresso roast , a gift from the local outlet , the only place I tip bigger than the bill of fair,,, we spend about 8 or 10 bucks every time we go in , & the tip is a few 8 to 10 buck cigars ..... so it might add up to a 30 buck tip on a ten buck order.... but they do take care of me with a great service policy & a free shot of espresso here & there
the Kona is in the press pot & will be getting pressed in a few minutes , the BIG Don Carlos President is first up today ,,, what is after that I have no idea,,, yet.
I need to get going & fire that bad boy up,,, Enjoy, Vince

Sorry to hear that you can't handle liquor any more Vince.:D
No snow here yet, but we did get less than an inch of ice pellets a week or so ago. Pretty good and very need rain this morning - much better than snow. The pond out back is as low as I have ever seen it in the 37 years I've lived here. In the 40's this morning and may get up to the low 50's this afternoon. If the rain stops, I'll be out there smoking a cigar.

I'm dreaming of a winter without snow, but it looks like that will end next weekend (according to the weather man).

Good morning it is Sunday 1/17/16 a cold cloudy day here in da Burgh, We had the slowest week ever since opening 9 years ago at the shop it was like the street was closed & the side walks were torn up ,,,, but but one was in for much of anything, the regular guys that come in for the "adult day care & mental health group sessions" were there & that is about it , the weather was miserable. BUT I did enjoy a 50 YO Bottle of Cognac ,,,, a bit on the sweet did but 50 years in the wood the color was a DEEEEP Red-ish Black , the nose had a mild sweetness to it & the taste was almost a root beer & raisin ..... it went well with a maultitude of cigars from a PDR Chisel to a contraband Monte corona , a few different Mfg. sun grown, & a maduro or 2 all tossed in during the week. seamed to work well with every cigar I tried with it , the coffee all week was a Columbian AA to wash it all down with. great week for doing nothing at work, Bad week for Income......
the 14th was grandson s #2 ,,, his 18th Birthday ..... now there are no Baby left in my blood line,, there are 2 Babys in the family , the stepdaughter & foster daughter of My daughter both have new babys born last year , but they are not blood relitives unless you count the fact that they are in the family , & we will be seeing both of them a lot they will grow up with us , & we will love them like our own,,,, Babys are cute & I enjoy talking to them ,,, seeing them laugh & as soon as the diaper is full , go back to MOM ! so I guess I am a GREAT GRANDFATHER to the new kids on the block....

Yesterday was the Herf & Nog an annuial event to mark the end of the Holiday season at Alleghney smoke works in Blawnox Pa , about 30/35 miles from me , an event that has been going on for Years & the kick off to the Late winter Early spring smoking season...... a bit of Booze (eggnog) , scotch & home made hooch , all surfaced at the event , coffee & cigars , ham sandwich, spinach rolls , peperoni rolls & a few deviled eggs made it into my gut during the day , along with a LOT of liquids that were a bit on the toxic side hahahaha ,,,, But so smoooooooth going down hahaha . ,
we went for our Saturday night cigar ride & I was "Forced" to light up an Opus X "A" that has been in the humidor longer than I care to remember, , the price tag has been worn off from long years of storage , & yesterday I thought its TIME ,,, so a BIG mug of espresso ( about 12 shots ) from Charbuck$ & the Boss got her Venti latte with an extra shot of espresso & down the highway we went, saw a few deer crossing the road a few hundred feet in front & I slowed down a bit & BINGO the BIG @$$ Buck walked out & crossed the road 10/12 points , about 200/225 pounds , , I have seen him before ,a small blaze of white on his chest in an odd pattern is the dead giveaway , he has been around a few years past his prime ,,, but still seams to be the Boss.... so I guess he insnt past his prime YET..... 40 years ago when I moved her , the area was farm land & forest, & over the years people have been doing just what I did & getting out of the suburbs & out into the country, Turning it into a dammmmmm City ,,,, well my next moves will be to a Sr. High rise, a nursing home & then the grave yard ,,, but I am not in any hurry to get out of here ,right now, I sure would like to move some place warm all year But the wife tells me NO WAY ,,, so made if she goes first, I might go south,,,, not much chance of that happening, And I know why men die before their wife,,,,,,, they want to !
this morning I made a pot of Oatmeal with dryed cranberrys , & golden raisins, sliced up a banana to top it with ,,, the wife was Ok with it , but told me Sunday supper better make up for breakfast, & I told her it would BUT NO G.D. HUNK O BEEF, so I will be making chicken & rice , Italian style ...... But right now the Kona is calling & the Don Carlos #3 is cut & ready to fire up , I need to get my pants on & get going, Enjoy, Vince

Tough time of year to sell cigars and it's happening later than usual this winter. Cold weather came lately, then there was Christmas and now snow is coming. This would probably be a good week for you to close the shop and spend the week on a Caribbean beach. No cigar shops around here, so I buy most of mine on internet auctions. Winter is usually the time when prices bid are at their lowest, but this year it wasn't until last week that I made my first week of buying- mostly robusto yard gars for winter and early spring smoking. This may be the end of my winter buying as it filled me up to near capacity. Still looking for a couple of things on my list and some bigger cigars for summer.

I hope things pick up for you.

good afternoon it is sunday 24th of Jan. 2016 a cold clear day here in da Burgh,,, the "snowfall" of the season has come and gone,,, the hype put out by the local & national weather services was a bit over the top for us ,,, just 25 miles NW of Pittsburgh ,, we got 1 yes ONE inch of snow,,, about 20 north of me ZERO.... , the end of the world is comming & I have seen the reports with the reporter standing in 3 feet of globial warming .....we slipped that punch, dodged that bullit, & blocked the kick all at the same time AMEN ..
sales never did pick up this week, every one was battering down for the storm, that never got here ! so I hope next week will be better,,, dammm it has to be as even the regulars didnt stop , & soon they will be looking at EMPTY humidors,,, not a good sight at home or at the shop.

I am in the Qtr.deck with my old pentium 3 computer ,, the sound is off & I cant get it back on line , but the screen & keyboard are working,,, so I will be putting on the CD player & not lisening through the computer today,,, like a good boy scout I am prepaired.....
the obigalitory hunk o beef is in the oven,,, what ever she want s she gets, a happy wife is a happy life.....
breakfast was a ham, cheese red bell pepper & onion egg bake..... the coffee was Sumatra & the toast was Roman Meal anchaint grain.... I have a POT of starbucks espresso roast in the drip maker & the first cigar is a Padron 3000 maduro, that will be backed up with a 1964 anniv, Padron Princippe maduro , and by then I will be ready for the press pot of KONA and a Padron 50th. anniv. Toro .... that should get me through the day some how....
This storm is called Jonas,,, my youngest grandson JONAS just turned 18 & gets a winter storm named for him,,, I loverd the headlins Jonas is Pounding Virgina , I sure hope her mother is OK with that hahaha

with all the cold weather, & BS about the storm I havent been doing a lot of anything other than turning coffee & scotch into urine.... smoking some cigars & listening to jazz on the radio, cd and computer ,,, depending on my location.... not that i am bummed out about it,,,, i do enjoy the peace and quiet.
my last uncle passes on friday now all that is left from the oldest generation is 2 aunts, one in Flint michigan with the water problems,,, & one here in ambridge Pa ,,, ... when they go the oldest relitive will be my cousin Don in Conn. getting older by the second,,, dont know when it will stop hahahaha
last night when we went for our coffee & cigar ride, we were listening to NPR & the Parrie home companion, Garison Keler the long time MC & creator of the show announced his retirement,,, saying he was 70+ & it was Time,,,, going to miss that program... I have been a faithfull listener for MANY years .... I need a photo of him with a cigar to put up in the Qtr.Deck. going to miss all the people in Lake Woebegone his fictional home town out there on the parrie .... when the woman are strong , the men good looking and all the children are above average.
Enjoy, Vince

On that snow Vince, we had predictions of 1-3", then 3-5" and then back to 1-3" and we ended up getting nothing...not a flake.

good afternoon it is Sunday1/31/16 a warm sunny day here in da Burgh over 60F the sky is blue & a few puffy white clouds , looks like a summer day. but here we are the end of jan. in the middle of winter temp should be 35 & have snow on the ground,,, some people are still digging out from last weeks snow & I just pulled out the 3 lazer lights in the back yard , put the green & blue ones away , repositioned the red one getting ready for Valintines day, the ground is soft & a bit muddy in places where the snow melted.

I am sitting in the Qtr.deckwith the OLD computer with out sound, the key board has so many old buttons on it , at one time were all short cuts to the internet & printer a special button just for e mail , shopping , games fax, & dvd player controls and a volium control . glad it still can get on the internet..... even with out sound it is fine... I have the old boom box with some sanatra in the back ground , A Bahia maduro that has been in the humidor for ever ,,, still have a few left,,, just as good as I remember them,,, now made in Nicaruraga these were made in Costa rico & are just grand smokes .

breakfast was a cheese blintz with pear compote & sour cream,,,, the boss approved,, so it was a win. coffee was a pot of a blend from 4 different centrail American estates from 2 different countrys ,,, 2 from Hondouris & 2 from Panama .... ... abot a half ounce of each,,, & 4 cups of water. in the press pot over night..... not a bad mix ..... at lest I have the recipie for it if I want to make it again. ..... the coffee now is a Costa rican made in the drip pot & it matches well with the Bahia ....

talk to the grandsons via skype , nothing new in there world ,,, just "doing what needs done" ,,,, OH to be Young again!!!!!!

I have a few days lef at the shop before a bit of surergry on my right foot,,, correcting a few joints that have stopped bending in the right direction...... I will be off work about 10 days , & this is the right time to do it,,,, the shop was almost embarrised in the low sales for Christmas & all of January .... the WORST month since we opened 9 years ago . the shelves are full of the Christmas specials & the cigar reps want to know why I am not ordering ?????? dammm got to sell some thing to make room & have the $$$$ to buy new stuff,,,, dammmm it is tuff to pass on some of the stuff but with out cash flow you cant do it ..... the shop will be open when I am off ,, I hope the sales pick up....

NO HUNK O BEEF today AMEN ,,,, but a baby hunk O beef ,,, yep a piece of VEAL , with peppers onions celery , garlic & some veal broth. .. I will be making some noodels to serve on th side with just a little butter & some herbs ,,,, as long as the BOSS likes it .....

I havent listened to any of the debates in much depth, a snippit here & there , just what the news rebroadcasts ,,,, listening to abc, nbc, cbs & npr , a bit of cnn & fox getting a different slant on the same cuts .... I dont trust any of them!!!!! ,,, ight now I am looking tward anyone BUT clintouis ,,, just dont like her ,,,, to many people have died to trust her to run anything ,,, she cant keep her husband happy to many bodys in there past... not crazy about burnnie , cruz, trump, bush, forina , or anyof them,,, who ever I vote for will not be a vote for them but a vote agaist hillerery
,,,

Time for more coffee & a second cigar,,, change from frank Sanurta to Tangerine dream & stop singing along hahahaha
Enjoy, Vince

Good after noon , it is Sunday Jan7 2016 a cool bright day here in da Burgh,,,,

well its time for the next pill, Good night Enjoy, Vince

Just think of it as deserved R & R, Vince. Don't get to like that Oxy and I hope they did a good job and fixed the problem.

The Pills are Ok put I like the scotch much better

Ash Wed. heavy snow about 20° F having trouble seeing the barn at the end of the field the snow is so heavy.... NO cigars since the 5th , getting a little cabin fever cant get out , cant smoke, cant drink & the wife has a bug of some sort, coughing & BITCHING about everything, her wrist is 100% so says the doc, but she needs to gain strength.... she is getting a lot of exersize on her vocal cords , she is getting laringitus ,,, AMEN. I Need a break. the doc said 2 weeks at home for me , NO cigars , No booze , just stay off the foot, she removed a joint from 2 toes & now all I need to do is heal..... waiting for the bones to fuse ,,,, I cant get out to the Qtr.Deck to get away from the boss, I am STUCK here, & she is stuck here with me ,,,,, ,,,, some one please shoot me hahahaha

Polar Vortex coming in this weekend with sub-zero temps and wind. Looks like I'll be joining you on the no cigar wagon then. Got 2 in today while shoveling snow (one was a Munniemaker). C'mon spring !

here it is Friday 6 days with out a cigar,,, I did have one in my mouth for a few seconds , till the wife yelled, the temp is all of 18°F with a wind chill of ZERO ,,, not a good day here in da Burgh

6 out here this morning when I went out to start the car to get ready for the 2 dentist appointments (his and hers). Smoked a small pipe then and after the trip which included shopping (mostly groceries) I lit up a larger pipe while unloading the car, getting the mail and cleaning up the drifting snow from the driveway. Looks like the next smoke of any kind may be Monday. In the 20's now with a breeze taking it to a wind chill of around 10. Saturday night wind chills could be around 30 below. Other than gong up to the mailbox tomorrow, I'm not planning on leaving the house until Monday afternoon.

Good morning it is Sunday 2/14/16 Valintine's day a bright sunny blue sky with temps hitting all of 12° F today last night we hit minus 6 ...... to late to bring in the brass monkey.
well I did get out yesterday with a buddy for a cigar & a scotch. ahhhh it was GRAND, the cigar was a Partagas serie D #4 & the scotch was a Dbl. Macallen 12YO the only single malt in the bar... a short time at the bar , a long time at a table with my foot elevated , & a great smoke with great conversation, what we talked about , I have no idea , it was just great getting out of the house, I go back to the doc on Tuesday .....
todays hunk O beef is all ready in the oven, the Boss is outside cleaning up the snow drifts in the drive way & walk ways , we had 30MPH winds yesterday & a few flakes of new snow , but the wind left bare spots in the yard & left it all in the drive way ...... Thank you Mother Nature..... But the Sun is out & the wind has stopped but the temps are still in the Bottom end of the scale.... not a fun time here in da Burgh.

A small prayer for a friend who lost a son in a car accident last week, Brett Jula was 29 he was a dist. manager for Sam Adamas Beer in St.louis,, talk about a tuff place to sell beer that isn't Bud in St.Louie,,,, his father a good friend of mine is the Basketball coach at Ambridge HS & the day of the funeral is the same day as the Playoff game for the HS Basketball Championship.... I wish the team good luck to be there with out the coach,,, Mark Jula is a great coach , But Family comes before basketball & the team will rally around him as well as his friends & family,, I met Brett a few times & he was a great guy, lots of fun & an outgoing person you just were drawn to in a way that didn't seam pretentious , he was just a down to earth great person & he will be missed.
I haven't been to the shop for a week now , I want to go & see what is going on , but sneeking out last night for a cigar & a scotch ,,, getting the riot act when I got home ,,,, well it just isn't worth the trip..... Maybe hahahaha

I never turn on the TV at work, just Jazz on the computer , but here at home ,, between the wife watching soap operas & QVC , I am going slightly boonkers ,,,, I have been getting a few naps in , & that is Bad,,,, I will need a cold shot of reality when I get back to the shop,,,, NO NAPS ,,,, I am sure there will be a withdrawel period

Breakfast was a toasted muffin with swiss , tomato bacon & egg, along with a pot of coffee from Sumatra ,,,,, No Kona today, just isn't the same with out the Don Carlos #3 ,,,, maybe later if I get out of the house ,,, I might make a drip pot of Kona ... but as far as I can see I will be HOME all day... I haven't got dressed yet, still in my robe & slippers, have no great need to find a pair of pants & a shirt unless I am going to get out of the house .....
I just looked at the time n the computer, it is 12 Hours off, saying it is 11 something on Saturday ,,, Need to change it asap it might confuse my all ready ratteled brain,,, I wonder how that happened????
Time for more coffee & NO cigar ,,, Enjoy, Vince

There's a battery in the computer that keeps the clock running and yours is dead or on the way there. Got down to -18 here overnight with wind chills in our area of -40 and even lower. It was -12 when I got up this morning and now it is almost up to zero. I grabbed a pipe when I walked up to the street and got the mail yesterday. Spent another 5 minutes scraping up some snow that drifted on the walk and driveway. No cigar again today.

good afternoon it is Sunday 2/21/16 a warm sunny day here in da burgh,,, warm for this time of the year here, but I am sure some in Fla. would have winter coats on , it is 50 F ,,,, yesterday we hit 70 F , and one year ago yesterday the temp was MINUS TEN F ,, what a difference a year makes . I am in the Qtr.Deck listening to George Winston play music by Vince Guaraldi, makes me want to go in the house & get a Peanuts TV special on the On Demand . , I have the pot of Kona finished all ready , moved on to a Sumatra medium roast.... its OK . nothing GRAND , just a good honest coffee. the cigar is a HemingwayUntold story .... great is an understatement.....

Got the stiches out of the foot & will be going back to the shop Tuesday , this is the longest time I have had off in 9 years ,,, I miss the BS & my wife is tired of having me underfoot !!!!

I had a GREAT day with my Brother yesterday, we had a mini cigar road trip, stopping at 3 shops in the Pgh . area & stopping for cuban Coffee & then supper at a Shusui Bar. & we did find a few places with a NICE Bar, only had 2 drinks all day , a snifter of Laugavulin 16YO & at an other wattering hole a snifter of Laphroig 10YO ,,, not a bad day at all, ran into some old friends . made some new ones, all in all it was a great day, the foot is a bit tender today but it got a good work out , so I expected that ..... nothing a few asprin will not help. IF I could get the top off the bottle hahahaha. Dammm child proof caps.... what about us SR.'S with arthritus ???? dammm government regulations.

Havent had much time with skype to talk to grandson #1 & #2 is busy with his girlfriend, work & school... so nothing to tell you about them, & I havent been in the shop for 2 weeks other than a quick stop before a haircut on Wed. I was there for less than an hour waiting for my turn in the barbers chair, ,,, dammmm I look good now, all the gray is cut back to reasonable length, the beard is trimmed & I can see my upper lip !!!!! , I should be good for a few months now ,

I stuffed a pork loin this morning & it is in the oven , should be ready about 4 PM . Low and slow , covered with Bacon,,,, everything is better with Bacon, , we finished the slab bacon this morning for breakfast & the ends went into the stuffing with onions celery old bread, eggs , EVOO & seasonings a few ounces of chicken stock & a dash of cream.... the spuds will go in the pot in about an hour from now.... I LOVE my cast iron pots. nothing fancy about them , no special interior coating other than the years & years of it being used ,,, I dont think any 500 buck french pot wit any special coating can do a better job than this OLD hunk of cast iron . my grandmother gave it to my mother , & I got it from her,, she said that it was her grandmothers so it must be OLD..... , I hope to give it to one of my gransons so it can get passed down over & over .... if people in the future still cook !
, Time for more coffee & a bathroom break.... Enjoy. Vince
