Story gets better every time I read it.

Good for you. You really need to be less meek when dealing with people!

Glad to hear about the weight/health.

Today, at the dog park, I had the Hiskies, Wile E. and Coyote enjoying various scents of other dogs. I fired up a Monte #2, Jack Daniel's brand coffee, over ice and really strong. One thing about a dog park, with the aroma of poop barrels, nobody says anything about cigars!

 :cryinlaugh: :cryinlaugh:

Always good to see The Colonel around. You have been missed, both on my screen and these boards. Hope all is well. Love those dog names, Wile E. AND Coyote.

I'm here every day, several times a day, my friend. I just don't always have the wits about me for a "hunt & peck" approach to typing.

I just got back from the hospital, visiting my buddy Mike , he is still in ICU, still not awake, but moving his eyes under the lids & kicking off the covers with his right leg, no movement on the left side at all Yet!, Mike & I have been friends a long time , I will be very sad if he has a poor recovery, he will have a cigar about one a week, & spends a lot of time hitting the golf ball ( I dont golf), hit the ball & chase it, not for me, evey other sport, you hit the ball, some one hits or throws it back ! , but I do like to walk the course & smoke when its not to hot out . & if its hot, I drive the cart, & he hits the ball , , but NO ONE told me DONT PARK ON THE GREENS hahahaha!
the last few days heve been nice weather wise, but the heat & humidity is up today, a good day to cook inside & not on the grill, so I have a pot of Veal stew going right now, , a little pasta later
( made fresh of course) right before we eat, , I will take a little trip to the herb garden & maybe cut some basil & organio to add to the pasta, serve the Veal stew over the fresh pasta, a little home made Vino, & viola ,supper is served , sure wish I could eat some garlic bread with this, but to much starch is not on my menu any more , Dammmm I miss it ! hahaha
well I better get to ther kitchen & check the flour, dont want to run short when I start, Enjoy, Vince

Vince, after your week, I would love to let ya use my cabin in Northern Michigan for a nice get away. Just promise me you won't eat all my trout in the river!!! hehehe

Sorry to The Colonel. I guess I should have worded it differently. I know you're around a lot, I guess I should dig a little deeper. I just haven't seen you on the usual forums or posts. I didn't mean to imply you weren't around or something like that.

sounds great Captain, I lived in Clio Mi,( 12 miles north of Flint) back in the 60's , I promise not to eat all the trout, just the ones I catch & cook ! how far North is it ??? hahahaha
Enjoy, Vince

I am looking for a new place in Frederic. On the Little Manistee River. We just sold our place up in Pelston, which is almost to the Mackinaw bridge. My buddy has a place on the Manistee river, (in Frederic) and i absoultely love the place. I am trying to by the place next to his. Fabulous trout fishing!!!

you catch them & clean them, I'll cook them & bring the cigars & single malt !hahahaha Enjoy, Vince

Vince, gotta say that is some kind of week! I’m a big believer in Karma, despite being raised Irish Catholic (or maybe because of it). When it goes bad, it usually gets better because it’s all up from down there. You and Bloofington have definitely had challenging years (so far). May that improve. Glad to hear the health of you and your wife is good.

Since I have relocated into that age neighborhood (forcibly), I too look at my so-called bad habits and take stock, from time to time. I haven’t done anything about them yet (I don’t think they’re bad; therein lies the conflict). George Burns said it best about getting older:

"You know you're getting old when you stoop to tie your shoelaces and wonder what else you could do while you're down there."

My neighbor who lives down the hill from me smokes cigars. He left a message that he’d gotten hold of some interesting sticks. So, Sunday afternoon FuManChu and I dropped by. Fu is always interested in going to Charlie’s house. Charlie has a large green parrot named Sammy. Sammy doesn’t have a vocabulary that I’ve ever heard. I’ve asked Charlie several times why he didn’t teach him to say anything, but he’ll glance at his wife (who is from Dublin, Ireland ) and say that he just enjoys his company. ‘Nuff said.

He took out 2 Cohiba Double Corona LE 2003s. Just a delicious cigar. It had notes of almonds, coffee and rich wood. This stick is balanced, smooth, and full of flavor. IMO, There are similarities to the Siglo IV but the LE is more elegant and refined. IMO, this cigar can be smoked all the way down to the fingers without any harshness. With a glass of Cruzon rum (Big Tom: you are right. Pusser’s rum is what they serve in BVI, and a finer rum was never made. The British Navy included it in daily rations for many years). Cruzon rum is made here in the U.S. Virgin Islands, now over 200 years and flies our flag. Now, Charlie has a couple of bottles of Cruzon in his cellar that are more 50 years old. Spiced Caribbean rum with a huge Cohiba stick – a fine way to spend an afternoon.

While we were there, Charlie decided to give Sammy the parrot a bath. Admittedly, I’ve never thought about how a bird (this size and without a bird bath) bathes. My neighbor takes the bird outside, puts him on a perch in the backyard, gets out a flower watering can, fills it up and sprinkles it over him. Although Sammy doesn’t speak words, he has learned how to laugh. Very weird sound; like a recording heard out of a small, cheap speaker -- but he has been doing it, according to Charlie, for about a year.

So here we were, smoking a great Cohiba, drinking spiced Caribbean rum and watching a bird take a bath. Fu was taking this all in and just as he was about to make his move, I grabbed him and put him up next to me on the rattan settee. After that I just got “looks” from him (like when I took him to a private golf course in the Caymans. I never thought for a moment about why I had never seen any dawgs on golf courses – after that day, I didn’t wonder again). And here is this large fluffy green thing (laughing), flapping his wings, having all the fun and he, Fu was going to have to sit still and not do anything. Life’s not fair.

A squall came up while we were there, so we headed back home, since we couldn’t make it to the harbor. We settled into my office in the back. I put on some Tommy Dorsey Big Band era swing (Sentimental Journey) and pulled a Cohiba Siglo V from the cigar cabinet. The wrappers are dark chocolate colored and polished to a sheen. The burn was slow and notes of cocoa were outstanding, with the Cohiba signature spiciness kicking in after about the first third. I poured a glass of Rémy Martin's Louis XIII cognac (great cigars go with good booze, my father-in law frequently states: he’s right.)

My office faces out to the Caribbean and the squall was lashing the water into small foam flecked waves that broke onto our beach. I suppose we’ll both dream about green parrots tonight.

cian

Fantastic post Cian. I'm sure you are the envy of many a people on the board here, myself included. Sounds like a great time.

Yep, I have thought it all out, we do need to visit Cian !!! ASAP . hahaha Enjoy, Vince

Hey Guys, You just gave me a nice memory.
Me and my wife were on St. Marten and we found a small cigar shoppe with flavored rum from a local still.
Sky blue coconut rum in a hand painted bottle!
I need to get back there for another bottle. I can never drink rum again without thinking of that island.
Thanks for taking me back there for a minute.

Vince,
He still hasn't said how many that boat will sleep. I wonder if he really wants us to visit, Second; Do we have to bring Bloofington?

Big Tom, what is he going to say when we show up on his door step with a bottle of 18 year old single malt & a bag of butcher trimmings for Fu? hahaha , & as far as bringing Buff, well if he can get to Pittsburgh , I can get us both to Va . , maybe we can bring Razor king & raven & who ever else wants to go to the tropics for the winter , if I like it , maybe I will sell my part of the cigar shop & move south , but I dont see that happening any time soon, I would miss the rugrats , they are 7 & 9 now & I dont want to miss them growing up, so it looks like I am stuck in the 'Burgh for a few years , unless I hit the lottery & have them move with me !

it has been a hectic week here, my Buddy Mike had a massive stroke & is now paralized on the left side , he is still in the ICU after the heart operation , they had to put in a trache tube to help him breathe, & now the doc wants to put in a pace maker , this guy is starting to look lost & just an evil experament to see how much they can make some one suffer before they just pull the plug & move on to the next poor soul
one good thing did come up this week, when I was looking for a cigar shop in the area of the hospital I did get a bargan on a few Trinadad Rubustos, 5 of them in an trinadad ashtry for 23 bucks , thats an 8.50 cigar & 5 of them with the big ashrtay for 23 bucks, had to be a mix up in the prices , the Romeao & julitta with the ashtray was 68.50 at an other shop I just had to visit on my way home , I am going to go back & see if they have any more at 23 bucks !!!( I think the wholesle price on that unit is 38 but I could be wrong )

I was moving stuff in the freezer & found a slab of beef from April, so it will be hitting the heat today, some glazed carrots , roasted potatos, rich thick brown gravy, & a little zuccunni braised in chicken stock & fennel seed & lemon zest ~ but only if I have time when I get back from my visit to the hospital , I guess I will have to make the time up some where, looks like no time for Dominos at the cigar shop today !!!!

my Son in law was at a yard sale last week, the guy had a 76 Porche 912 in the garage & a sign make offer the car has 211,700 miles on it , needs a set of exaust pipes & a tune up, didnt blow any blue smoke , but was a bit loud, good rubber , & a sun roof, no a/c , my son in law offered 1500 , the guy said no he wanted 3500 , my son in law said the sign said make offer I did , its up to you weather or not you will take it, I didnt come to negoicate I made an offer , a week later the guy called him & said be here in one hour with CASH the car is yours , 45 minuts later he was in the guys drive way with the Cash( it took him 15 minutes to get to my place ) , so now my daugher has to learn how to drive a stick & live with a Black car with out a/c hahahaha , it looks so good parked next to her mini van & his 4 door crew cab F 350.
it is hell getting old but I guess it beats the alternitive , I have the Sunday Morning pot of Kona brewing, just ground some tanzanian Peaberry for the next pot , I have my trusty buddy Don Carlos III wondering where I am , it is getting late so I better fire one up before my lungs get to much O2 hahahaha , the weight is holding at 255 , I need a good Movement to lighten the load hahaha, my wife has always told me I was full of it ! hahahaha
say a prayer for Mike , I am going to have a cup of coffee a DC III & a snifter of scotch for him this morning & then one for my self hahahaha ! Enjoy, Vince

Vince,

Where is the cigar shop you own part of? I'm in Pittsburgh too and always looking for a new place!

the Boss is just finishing the dishes , the beef was great, now we have about 4 or 5 meals each left, it will be leftovers all week !!!The gravy was some of the best I have ever made, OH so Good, I didnt want anything but a straw to suck it up with , Yummy

Mike got moved out of the ICU to a step down unit, still not in to good of shape, he has a fever & congestion in his lungs , he is off the ventalator & breathing on his own

I picked up a few Upmans ( cameroon/with a ceder wrap) at a news stand in town , I did have a few sticks in my 3 finger case but didnt want to smoke a Camacho SLR Dbl.Corona for a 35 minute drive or the Cuban Monte #2 that I had with me , now that I have had the Upman & am at home , the Monte is looking real good about now , but I might just wait a bit & fire up a trinadad rubusto right now, , all the kona is drank as well as the peaberry, so I made a little decalf espresso & will be heading out to the Qtr.Deck asap.
the temp is in the upper 80's , depening on what news report you listen to one has it at 88 one at 87, the humidity is a little high at 65% , it is ok outside if your in the shade & not moving to much, good Dominoes weather !!

I havent run into any anti cigar @$$holes in the past few days , good thing ! ~~Mike isnt around to come bale me out hahahaha !!
you know a friend will come bale you out but a good friend will be sitting beside you saying MAN THAT WAS FUN, well Mike is /was that kind of a guy, the Doc said about 4 to 6 weeks more in the hospital if it all goes well, then to rehab for a few months , looks like I will need to be on good trems with my fellow man till he gets out of the rehab center, maybe by Thanksgiving, cant go out with out backup hahahaha !!! ( is it bale or Bail???) dammmm spellen was never a strong suit for me !
well the coffee is ready & I have a fire to start under the Fuente Canonone that my wife just brought into me, 8.5 x 52 Natural, I didnt know I had any left !! ( thought they were all Maduro ) Enjoy, Vince
