Sunday Morning Smoke

Good afternoon Vince, and all!!! I didn't make it to work last night. After encountering a period of extremely good health over the summer, going back to the days before my asthma became severe, for the past few days my asthma has shown signs of becoming severe again. No surprises, because that's what happens during the change of season, especially as the weather gets colder and windier. There are a number of factors which led to me turning back the taxi on the way to New Hamburg station last night, but I don't want to be TOO longwinded. :cryinlaugh: I simply need to get some extra rest and stay close to my nebulizer today, although I should be able to go to work tonight. As for last night's lost pay, :dunno: the Bible says The Lord will provide, and He always has, so I'll sit tight.

I did manage to smoke a Carlos Torano 1916 (6 1/2x50) last night from 2025 hours to 2214 hours, absolutely delicious. If I can figure out what those wonderful flavors were, especially that main flavor, I'll get back to you all on it. I don't remember who sent it, or how long I had it, or perhaps I got it from a sampler pack some time within the last year, but it was a GREAT cigar.

I'm watching the most inept team in football put their foot squarely in their mouths and up their butts again this week, and enjoying a delicious Freedom Press of Kenya AA from Oren's Daily Roast in NYC. Don't know about a cigar today, but it might happen. I've got to hit that nebulizer again soon, though.

Vince, you said that Dubya DIDN'T cause the hurricane, and that you're using old growth trees for your pizza oven. Don't forget, BigTom is a Democrat, and when he gets back from where hurricanes originate, he's going to have a bone to pick with you. Not to mention that he's in love with Hitlary. Boy, if I were you, I'd run when he gets back to the States. :cryinlaugh: You environment destroyer, you. :rotflmao:

As for losing posts, I can't tell you how many times I've lost posts because the system logged me out while I was on a tear. The key is that if you take longer than ten minutes or so to compose a post, FIRST copy the text, then try to post it. If you have been logged out, then you still have the text to paste back in after you've logged back on. Since it sometimes takes me two hours to compose a post, I learned that one fast. It helps, and it also helps keep you from cursing a blue streak when you've busted your butt trying to get something in, only to lose 5,000 words of typing.

So Tony Borhani's no longer in Costa Rica, huh? Where are they making the Bahia line these days, and what are the origins of the tobacco? Just curious, although I could get off my own lazy ass and do a search, huh? 8)

Here's hoping that Tom gets back soon from Shanghai. Oh right, he's not in Shanghai, he's on the coast of West Africa, where all hurricanes originate. Hey, is the next one Hurricane Hitlary? :dunno:

Ahh, Vince, Bloof, the brevity with which you communicate...

Me? I was out and about early, just got in. No morning coffee yet. Almost closer to just wait and have the coffee tomorrow. I'll probably brew some Jack Daniel's brand coffee. With that, I shall touch flame to an Ashton VSG Torpedo.

Yesterday, I finally tried one of the larger ring guage Don Lino Africa. I forget the frontmark, but when I find it, I'll post a review. If you can find these, get 'em. Very nice cigar.

Bahia are now made in Nicaruaga, what the blend is I have no idea but I do love the old ones , maybe the time , maybe the blend what ever it is my go to smoke when I can find the old ones ,
I havent been at the Country Club since it was sold & moved to make way for an office complex, so Now alll the trees are gone, & we didnt cut any of them down , just trim & top some of the hard woods , the wind would bring some of them down & then we had the big trunks to cut up & use , but that was a long time ago, before my daughter was walking .
sorry to hear about your asthma , time to get to the doc & get some stronger meds !!!!
that is a great idea to work on the post, copy it & post the copy, dammm who said you were the great domboni ??? all that typing with out any fuss to lose it , dammmmm great idea, ,
If Tom is serious about hilary mabe the next storm will be TOM ! hahaha
the lady who is across the street from my daughter had a pampered chef party today, she called me to come down & spend some of my cigar money , so being a good dad I went , had a few potstickers & some peanutbutter apple dip on crackers , fine for a snack !
My dough is ready to roll out & make the pizza, so have a great rest of the day Enjoy, Vince

Actually, since I ran out of my first and best line of defense, namely my maintenance medication, over two months ago, it's just time to get to the doctor and get some of that!!! But as I said, it's been a combination of factors.

I'm a lot better today, rested up, and enjoying the last of a glass of Booker's, 126.8 proof in this particular bottle. This is coming after one of Zaro's delicious pumpkin pies which I had for breakfast right after the Freedom Press of Kenya AA. And of course, I'm watching football.

Don't forget, if your post works the first time, you didn't post the copy, just the original. But at least if you copied it before hitting submit, you have it in your computer's memory, just in case a "timed out" page or other glitch caused your post to get lost.

And those old Bahia's, of which there are boxes still around, the Maduros and Bahia Gold's were wonderful. The Gold's were too strong for me, though. The Bahia Trinidad's were a bit too light for me, but good tasting.

While Le Madame is out shopping, I am having a large cup of coffee and a smoke. The beans are a Viennese Blend (my wife’s fave), which is a clean, medium-bodied brew balanced with spicy and smoky notes. IMO, Viennese Blend is different because it combines several roasted coffees, whose beans have different degrees of darkness. The blend combines seventy-five percent deep roasted Latin American beans with twenty-five percent dark French Roast. As far as I know, the name is in honor of the long-standing coffee tradition of Old Vienna, which can be traced to 1683, when the retreating Turkish army left sacks of green beans behind to be discovered by the Viennese.

The smoke is a San Cristobal de la Habana La Punta. The vitola is Campaña. We are staying at my in-law’s apartment in the city and I’m enjoying this smoke while looking out across a busy boulevard about 3 blocks away. It is sunny and about 80 degrees with no wind (great cigar smoking weather). IMO, this stick has rich woody flavors and a strong tobacco taste. San Cristobal’s are complex smokes with floral and mild citrus notes. I would describe this cigar as being full bodied, with strong Habanos tobacco flavors throughout the entire cigar -- maintaining a distinct spiciness. At the end you can taste heavy notes of rich earthiness and woody flavors. This San Cristobal maintained a great burn and although it burned slowly it never needed a touchup. A very tasty morning cigar that goes well with coffee, newspaper and gentle sunshine in your face.

My wife and I attended the wedding of her friend and former team-mate (Adrienne was a competitive swimmer and member of the French Team at the ’92 Olympics in Barcelona). The girls stayed at the farm and Le Madame drove the Citroen to Paris (a better description: Le Madame drove at speeds of up to 90 miles an hour, passing everybody else like they were in park -- all the way to Paris). She turns into an urban terrorist-behind-the-wheel when returning home to Europe. You can always tell: she comes out with a scarf tied around her hair (the Citroen is a convertible), large dark sunglasses; wearing chinos and a blouse.

I observed that she was “trying to look like Grace Kelly driving through Monaco with Cary Grant after a diamond heist.” She snorted at me, retorted that ”it was more of a Christina Aguilera look, Cary Grant never had a beard and if I was afraid of driving fast, “I" could wear her scarf so that I would not muss my hair. I sighed and said nothing. No cigar ride for me, this time.

The nuptials were held in Paris at a private home with a reception for several hundred. I had liberated several sticks from my father in-law’s humidor and the groom; father of the groom, myself and another guest retired to a room off the corridor and lit up Hoyo de Monterrey Epicure Especial LE 2004s. The vitola is Gordito. I had been looking forward to trying these cigars since my father in-law told me that the cigars had been released and that he had a box. This is an outstanding cigar. I did not experience any harshness in taste or aroma at any stage. The flavors that stood out most were cocoa with hints of hazelnut. There is a woody element to the cigar but it lingers in the background. The ash was heavy, thick and very dark. The cigar produces a medium quantity of smoke although the smoke is not particularly thick. The burn was even throughout and the wrapper color was beautiful. This is a cigar of exceptional quality.

Eventually, the groom was discovered missing. The door to our hiding spot opened and two Alpha females (the bride and my wife) immediately herded all of us back to the reception.

Vince: Long ago when I was very young and stupid I did jump into a haystack with a lusty young woman. What an experience that was – dust, dirt and getting poked by the sharp ends of drying hay and to top it off, the girl started screaming (long before I did anything THAT extraordinary) because a garden snake crawled across her thigh and into her panties (apparently we stumbled on its nest – so much for personal charm).

Bloofington: Your words are always too kind. I simply write about what happens in my life. You and Vince create a tapestry of images on this string that is truly wonderful.

We will be returning to the Virgin Islands on Wednesday of next week.

Ahhhhh Cian, it is your words that are too kind. The Ol' Snake In The Panties trick, ehhhhhh? :cryinlaugh: :cryinlaugh:

Any idea what the origin of the 25% French Roasted beans was? Just curious.

Your wife is a Christina Aguilera fan? :eek:mg: Too bad you guys were discovered smoking those cigars. What a waste to have to cut it short. I smoke every cigar to 1/2"-3/4" before tossing it. :dunno:

You leave me drooling over the cigars you smoke. Ahhhhh, to smoking real Cubans at least 90% of the time. What a life.

Bloofington: The blended beans used in the French Roast portion of Viennese Roast varies according to roaster and blend taste. The French Roast that I get for my wife is 8% Columbian Supremo (for body) 6% Venezuelan Maracaibo and 11% Costa Rican Tarrazu.
As to the history of the blend, there are a variety of stories, as you can imagine. My personal favorite as to how "French Roast" came to be is the following:

In 1727, the Brazilian coffee industry got its start when Lieutenant colonel Francisco de Melo Palheta was sent by the government to arbitrate a border dispute between the French and the Dutch colonies in Guiana. Not only did he settle the dispute, but also struck up a secret liaison with the wife of French Guiana's governor.

Although France guarded its New World coffee plantations to prevent cultivation from spreading, the lady said good-bye to Palheta with a bouquet in which she hid cuttings and fertile seeds of coffee which he later marketed (tongue in cheek no doubt) as "French Roast".

My friend, Le Madame is indeed a fan of Christina Aguilera and many other rock 'n rollers. She and her Ipod are inseparable (the same with my children, who listen to 50 Cent, etc.). My wife will be 35 in December and has all the tastes, prerogatives and fancies of women her age (I enjoy rock and roll and have converted Adrienne into a lover of jazz – which is more the province of older men like myself; along with Port wine which is another indulgence – I am 53. I defer to Henny Youngman on successful marriage:

"Some people ask the secret of our long marriage. We take time to go to a restaurant two times a week. A little candlelight, dinner, soft music and dancing. She goes Tuesdays, I go Fridays."

cian

She goes on Tuesday I go on Fridays, Dammm why didnt some one tell me that 35 Dammmmm years ago hahahaha !!!

Friends.
I'm back.
7:00 EST I'll be traveling PA 15 South. I'll be all through Central PA and Northern Maryland. My vehicle is black and fast- E500.
I'm in top shape, and all man.
Cigar- still a Padron 3000.
Beverage- a warm beer and a single malt. A French Sauterne after dinner.
Coffee- black.
Retired.
Malone.

So, are you Patti or are you Malone? And if you're Malone, why are you posting under Patti's name? Or, as DePau said to Spock:

Er thee human or er thee Wulcan?

Well, someone's going strong, but unless and until I hear from Malone by e-mail, I'm not convinced of anything, except that someone's playing games. If that's not true, I apologize, but this isn't the way to reappear on the forums after a two month absence. Patti is either two people, one person, five refugees from a Star Wars movie, none of the above, who knows anything? I certainly don't and after some of what's been going on throughout this entire web site lately, I'd like a little more clarity. This isn't a place for playing now you see me, now you don't. Someone needs to step up and state clearly who is who.
