Good Morning Everyone. Sunday was a great day for me. Watched "Sunday Morning" which had an Spot on Niel Diamond and his new album. Did my grocery shopping. Picked up two oven stuffer roasters for Sunday dinner and a Butt end spiral sliced Ham for my weekend with my folks in the Burg. I did one of the Chicks with a Memphis BBQ Rub and one with my favorite Greek rub (Greek origano,Dill, Cracked Black Peper, French Sea Salt and Olive oil) Shoved a half can of Yinglings up thier respective A33es and sat them on the grill at about 300 F. I then fired up a Padron 3000 (in memory of Vince) and opened up a fine bottle of Charles Shaw Sharaz 2003. About 4:30 the Gang showed up. Both daughters with respective men in tow and the worlds cutest, smartest, etc, Grandson. I am afraid I have the little tyke spoiled all ready. At 18 months he came running into the house yelling Pap Pap, Pap Pap. When he found me on the back porch he grabed my finger and led me to the frig where it just so happened I had stached his bowl of strawberries. Which I had earlier cleaned, cut up and lightly sugared. The hot house Strawberries you get this time of year are not very sweet.. We got him set up at the kitchen island with his snack and I went back to the pourch to finish my cigar and smell the chicken cooking. After dinner was finished the "Men" headed back to the Porch to watch the Steelers vs Packers, Light up three Monty #2's and destroy a bottle of Virginia Vintage Port, Horton winery. The Steelers squeeked through with thier new 2nd string QB, The port was awsome and the Cigar was every thing I knew it would be. All in All it was a great day.
Don't think I will up your way Vince, It is shut up the Trailer by the Lake weekend. Maybe during the Xmas Visit. We can burn some sticks by then.

BIG TOM ,sounds good to me, the Qtr.deck is ready , I am working my way through my 3rd bottle of JW Green , since I put the cigars on hold till after the surgery I have been sipping a lot of malt with the coffee, the trees are almost naked here & the yard is full of the fall out from the trees, so I will keep busy with the rake & smelling the burning leaves till I can get back to Burning Castros crops , one stick at a time ! hahaha Enjoy, Vince

Tom , I wish I could explain that to a lady down the street, her
husband was in the Normandy Invasion & she is totally committed to cindy shehan , has no idea that we must support the troops & still be able to say NO war , she thinks that if congress cuts the funds & all the G.I.'s will come home, but to many of them will get hit when the money drys up before they get out of town, she was all for WWII, & protested everything since, , she is anti Bush, & was anti clinton, anti Reagen, anti Kennedy, anti Johnson, anti Nixon, anti Ford, , I dont think she has been happy since FDR !!!

Enjoy, Vince
I'm in a tough spot because I'm all for war but I don't support the troops. No, no, just kidding. It's the opposite

Hang in there, Vince (with the "no cigar" thing.) Reading these threads must be torture. Cheers to you :wine:

What single malt do you drink/prefer?

I seam to be doing OK as far as the cigars go, I did put on 2.5 pounds since the 14th of Oct, MY Bad !!, but it is some thing that need to be done, it is tuff working at a cigar shop & not smoking, I stay away as much as I can but I cant let it all on my partner, as far as single malts go , I am working on a Johnny Walker Green right now, I just finished a Macallen cask strength & a Glenmorangie Maderia wood finish, next in the rotatiom is a bottle of Spayburn, I think it is the best deal in the Pa. State Store a Spayside 10YO single malt for about 21 bucks a bottle , I like it a lot . I am drinking a Columbia supermo coffee right now , got it from a Thompsons catalog, & just like all there stuff, over priced & not worth the time to brew it, dammm disapointing, but I did use the free noise canciling head set when I was using the blower on the 3 tons of leaves in the yard , so i guess I paid for the head set & got free crummy coffee, when you pour it into the cup it is Flat, no life , drab taste , oh well what more should I expect from a catalog, , , next time it will be Green mountain , or Orleans coffee co, as soon as they get back in business , I have been getting a lot of coffee from the coffee shop across the street from the cigar shop, Blue Violet Cafe , they have about 10 different coffees , 3 different every day, KONA on Sunday , & I am there for sure ! time for me to start supper, Pork tenderloin on the grill, some polenta with hot peppers & a big pile of Greens & Beans , yea baby !! get out the tabasco ! Enjoy, Vince

Thanks for the link, hey I might be related to them , same last name with out the D , some one on Ellis Island might have left it off of that bunch, hahahah you never know ! Enjoy, Vince

:D

Perhaps, but the company name actually comes from the first name of it's founder, one Oren Bloostein. Hey, ya never know. I mean, we all have one set of parents, right? :sm_angel:

Dammm there goes my inherantence ! hahaha Enjoy, Vince

More coffee stuff !1 don't yous guys have your own forum?
:barf: :neer:

yes there is a coffee section, this is just a BS session gone a little long, it helps to ease the pain of the "No Cigar" time , since I havent been smoking I cant talk about our favorite leaf but I can talk about our favorite bean , & favorite grain, " malted barlry" & after some science has been applyed to the nector of it & it has slept for a number of years in an old used Borboun barrel we have the " water of life " so you drinkers of good sour mash keep up the good work & make lots of empty barrels for the makers of the Great single malt whiskys of Scotland !! hahahahahaha
Enjoy, Vince

12 November 05
5 days & counting , surgery on the 17th, should be home that night, about 5 to 7 pounds lighter , & on LOTS of Pain medication , yea baby, so I guess I will be kind of High for a few days , till they are all gone ! , sure wish I could start taking some of them NOW, getting a little "antsy" ~~~~~ No cigar since the 14 th of last month, but I did put a Huge dent on my single malt stash , down to ONE OPEN bottle here, & ONE open bottle at the shop, , Dammmm I am in trouble, sure hope the liver is ok hahahaha Enjoy, Vince

Just think Vince, every day WITHOUT a cigar is one day CLOSER to your NEXT cigar.

We sailed to the British Virgin Islands this weekend, as it was time to pick up cigars. There was a nice trade wind behind us (about 5-6 knots), sunshine skimming across the wave tops, reflecting blues, greens and flashes of purple in the clear Caribbean Sea. By we, I mean FuManChu (first mate, confidante and self appointed food taster), the recently married Paul and myself. We dropped anchor in Roadtown (Big Tom knows this area well, probably having raided along this coast for some time) and made our way up narrow, twisting streets to my friend’s tobacco shop.

The smokes were wrapped, and ready to go. Of course, we exchanged our usual pleasantries: “I’m glad to see that you haven’t grown uglier since the last time”, remarked the tobacco dealer. I pointed out to him that as George Bernard Shaw (playwright) said: “I admire you because I've never had the courage it takes to be a liar, a thief, and a cheat!” Paul laughed, Fu woofed and with greetings out of the way, we sat down to try out his latest sticks and enjoy some refreshment.

We poured Smith Woodhouse Tawny Port (aged 10 years). Port has been made since the time of Roman occupation, and takes its name from the city of Oporto, Portugal which is still a center of most of the world's port production. The city lies at the mouth of the Douro River, which twists through rugged, wind-swept mountains and where vineyards are planted in neat terraces to prevent erosion on the steep slopes. The aging of this Port in oak casks creates a delicate nutty character which combines well with raisin and fruit flavors. IMO Aged Tawny is the most versatile Port style and is appreciated for its delicacy, complexity and balance.

The cigar: Cohiba Siglo VI (the vitola is Canonazo) which IMO is one of the best cigars ever rolled in Cuba. Creamy, smooth as silk, the smoke is rich in aromas varying from musk and spice to earthy, wood tones. This cigar is a Havana classic; a pure, perfect progression of pleasure. Be ready to spend at least an hour to an hour and a half with it (we did).

After spending a couple of hours smoking and consuming several glasses of Port (not to mention waiting out a tropical shower) we headed back to the boat. Once onboard we cut Partagas Serie D No. 2 2003 LEs (vitola is super robusto). IMO, this smoke compares very favorably to the Bolivar Royal Corona and Cohiba Robusto; strong peppery cigars with flavors of sweet spice, leather and each having a long finish. It's well constructed in a hard Rosado wrapper, burns easy and produces big clouds of smoke. It's the kind of stick you need to smoke outside because it burns with intense aromatic smoke from start to finish.

About this time my cell phone rang. It was Le Madame inquiring as to our whereabouts, and whether I had gotten Paul completely inebriated. Certainly not, I told her (as we hoisted two glasses of Hennessy Cognac Private Reserve). I observed that going out with Paul was similar to what Dean Martin said about meeting Pat Boone for the first time: “I once shook hands with Pat Boone and my whole right side sobered up." Now this caused a great deal of sputtering on the other end of the connection (we won’t go into all of that) so I reminded her of a famous WC Fields quotation: "I always keep a stimulant handy in case I see a snake, which I also keep handy."

Of course Le Madame, not seeing any particular wisdom in this, reminded me (as she usually does) that defending my self with quotations and philosophies from other men who have the same problems (her opinion, not mine) that I do is irrational. I mused over that for a few moments and used my favorite latin quote: “Heu, modo itera omnia quae mihi nunc nuper narravisti, sed nunc anglice? (Translation: Listen, would you repeat everything you just told me, only this time say it in English?)

With that, I set the cellphone down on the bench next to my seat, where the French was pouring out. Fu who had been lying on my feet, listened for a few moments then went over and barked enthusiastically into the phone. There was a pause, then I could hear Fu’s name followed by another burst of French. FuManChu, veteran first mate and my companero, put his head down and went and hid in the cabin. We laughed, toasted the Caribbean evening and made ready to sail.

I am looking Fwd. to the second week in Jan. ......., if not sooner

Cian, just great, I can see poor Fu , hiding in my mind , a great day here & there hahaha Enjoy, Vince

well its Sunday again, 13th of November, 4 days till the surgery , & one day closer to my next cigar, dammmm this has been tuff on me, I have become a hremit, I havent been hanging out at the cigar shop & I am missing a big part of my social life , dammmm this sucks , at first I didnt mind a little second hand smoke ,in fact I was enjoying it, but now it is torture , I wanted to get some before & after photos so I met one of the guys at the cigar shop to take the photos there, well I picked up a lit cigar , JUST FOR THE PHOTO , & man it was tuff to put it down with out taking a puff, BUT I DIDNT < I am going to hold out & not screw this up, no nicotene for 30 days plus & no cafine for 3 days before , the withdrawll head ache should be gone by then , hahaha
dammmmm getting old , & fat sucks , but I guess it beats not getting any older !
most of the maple leaves are all cleaned up & the patio furniture is put away for the winter, the deck looks huge with all the chairs gone, it is 10 x 20 & with all the stuff on it , there is a nice homey feeling there, but now empty , it looks like a football field , well soon the Christmas tree will go up & fill a lot of space, the ice cicle lihts are all in place but not plugged in yet, just to early, but I did want to take advantage of the great weather & get them out with out freezing my formerly fat @$$ off & freezing my poor fingers to the bone , ahhhh to live in the tropics & only worry about a few storms each summer hahahaha ! , I dont know, I did like San Diego when I was in the Navy, as well as L.A. & San Fran, Chicago was no different than Da Burgh & Philly wasnt any better , Norfolk was ok but not as nice as San Diego , but my roots are here in Da Burgh , the Grandsons are here & I dont see them enough now, it would be the PITS if I was clear across the country from them , & I dont know if I could get into the California life style, I guess I am just to set in my ways & I like the fact that there is no extra tax on Cigars in Pa. like there is on cigeretts ($1.50 a pack tax here ) , cigars , NO extra tax other than the regular sales tax on the retail price , but since I dont get them retail hahahaha !!!

The field next to me seams a little empty since the BIG BULL ole Angus McStudd was sold , right now there are 5 cows out there but no little ones , right after he was sold there were about 10 or 12 in the field but nothing since , I miss hearing him bellow & snorting , What a STUDDDDDDDD

The price of gas has come down a bit , from a high of $2.79 a gallon to a low observed last night of $2.08 , the last time I filled up it was 2.17, I guess when the profit statements came out the big oil companys cut prices to keep the customers from revolting !

No cigar since the 14th of last month , no fingernails left, no scotch left , no coffee starting Monday morning, but decalf isnt real coffee hahahaha !

Almost forgot, I marched in the Vets day Parade , it was a Wonderfull day , the sun was out there wasnt a cloud in the sky the temp was in the high 40's low 50;s & walked the entire route , I supprised my self , I might have been out of step , but not to many were in step hahahaha , there were 2 OLD GI'S from the Battle of the Bulge there , they road in the back of a vintage Jeep , there WWII uniforms still fit, a little tight , but still fit, I dont even know where my old uniform is , last time I saw it my daughter wore it to school when she was in 5th or 6th grade , (Just the jumper, & hat the pants would have been way to big hahaha !)
I dont think it would fit today , but maybe in a few months I might be able to get back in it , if I can find it ! I should ask my wife, she knows where everyting is, hey maybe W should ask her where the WMD's are hahahaha !
& that brings me to on other point , I have always supported the President , no matter what , Untill bill clinton, anyhow well I was standing up for W untill he put the medal of freedom on mohamid ali , sure he had the right to refuse induction to the service, & he did go to jail for his beliefs , more power to him, he did stand up for what he believed in , but I dont think he deserves the highest civilian award that this country gives , just my opinion .
well the chicken is thawing & I will be coating it with cheese & baking it today, as soon as It has defrosted a bit more I will cut it up, dredge ir in flour, dip it in egg & roll it in a mix of Parmagano & Romano , with a little Asiago tossed in , then about 10 minutes before it comes out of the oven a little sprinkle of feta & some fresh crushed garlic , if that dosent give me gas, Nothing will hahahaha
Enjoy, Vince
