The Matrix?
Seeing that cigars compliment a round of golf, I was just wondering how many here actually play golf.
I've been playing for 7 1/2 months now. I got into golf because of work. Well, not really related to work, but my coworkers hold a tournament every year. I went to hit my first golf ball in December of last year when everyone went to practice for the tournament. I was frustrated during the 30 minutes as I was only able to hit about 5 out of 30 balls. Of course, none of them went straight.
After the tournament, everyone came back to work with all the war stories and the "I caught a fish THIS BIG" tales.
So in March '06, I decided to get myself a set of clubs. Since I'm a beginner, I ended up getting the Jack Nicklaus Signature Series from Costco. It included a mallet putter, 5-PW steel shaft irons, 3H, 4H, 3 and 5 wood, 460cc driver, and a stand bag. All regular flex shafts. (you can find this set at costco's web site)
My handicap is too embarassing to mention in public.
Since then, I've decided it was time to move on to a new set of clubs.
What's in my bag now:
Nike Sasquatch 460cc driver (this thing looks HUGE)
Callaway Big Bertha Titanium 7-wood
Callaway X 4-hybrid (as soon as it's released this week)
Callaway Big Bertha '06 irons: 5-PW (graphite shaft)
F2 (Face Forward) wedge: 52 degree
Professional Open 56 degree wedge, brass head (homemade by a co-worker)
Putter: can't remember the brand at the moment. Got it off my friend.
Ball: currently using Precept Laddie Extreme. Will be using Callaway HX Tour 56 as soon as I have the chance to get back out on the course (got 12 of these during a Callaway Demo event)
Other balls I've used:
Nike Ignite: this ball is like hitting a solid lead rock! I hated it after 2 holes. Donated the rest on the driving range.
Callaway HX Pearl: nice and shiny pearlescent coating (yeah, it's actually made for women ). Good distance off the tee, nice spin on the short game. Consistent on the green. But was too expensive as I lost 10 of these on just 1 course!
Callaway Warbird: not too crazy about this ball
Titlelist NXT: didn't like these either. Can't remember why.
Top Flite XL Extreme Distance
My strategy for golf: HAVE A GOOD TIME and SMOKE A CIGAR! Some people I play with take the game too seriously. And I see it affecting their game. For me, I go just to have fun and enjoy the scenery. Sure, the squirrels love to steal my snacks out of my bag, but that's another story. So what if my round ends up at 140+. At least I enjoyed a lot of cigars!
So, what's in your bag? Why do you golf? Tips/Tricks? Your fishing tales?
