Who said souptime?? I'm up for souptime, that is for sure!!!

My wife made a wonderfull pot of soup on Thursday. I was downstairs cleaning up after the contractor - again! - and all of a sudden I got a whiff of this wonderfull aroma coming from the kitchen. We have been saving a couple of chicken carcasses, and they finally met their wonderfull end. Totally wonderfull, with long noodles and lots of vegies. YUMMY!!!

Good soup!!! & you left you show & tell photos here ! , ransom demand to fallow hahahahaha Enjoy, Vince

I'll start this off, therefore we can get the foolishness over with, so that substantive posters like Vince and the weekly post from The Land Of Cian and Fu can come upon us like a warm sea breeze.

I called in to the firm shortly before 2100 hours, and the supervisor said I wasn't needed tonight. So, I got about doing other stuff around the house. Wasn't going to waste the night. Got a message from her that was left a half hour after my call. I didn't get it however, until an hour after it came in. Seems they needed me after all. Oh well, too late. I'm not there, but my cigar is here, a Cuesta Rey Centenario No. 9, a beautiful pyramid shaped cigar with a light Connecticut shade wrapper.

This, in terms of construction and flavor, is one of the most consistent cigars, year after year, cigar after cigar, that I've ever smoked. Medium bodied, but no kick, sweet, tangy, with a bit of earth and light amber maple syrup. This is your Village Idiot, All Bloofy, All The Thyme Radio, 6969.69 on your internet dial, hanging out on my computer, flipping back and forth between 70's, Classic R&B, and Classic Disco as I while the night away.

Remember, at 1530 hours Eastern Time, the USA Indoor Track and Field Championships will be shown on ESPN.

Have a great one, everybody. :cheerschug: :wine:

Goood Morning Cigar world , It is a chilly snowey day here in da Burgh woke up to a nice light snow cover this morning , wind chill down to 7F but there is some grass sticking up through the snow , it isnt deep, a broom will clear the walk & drive way , I havent had my Don Carlos as yet but am working my way through the second pot of Kona this morning, & I had Kona yesterday, all day, & you know it is great coffee but , I think I will get back to my traditional Sunday Kona & drink other stuff during the week, that way I look Fwd. to the Sunday Kona , like if you have Lobster all the time soon you want a slim jim or a bratworst , so before I get to the point that the Kona is just an other cup of coffee for the cafine induced high I get , I will switch back to the rotation of the
Kenya AA , Cloumbian,Margoheppie,MokoJava ,Malabar,Santos & Peaberry, & who knows what else I might find if I look hard enough ! I got a post card from Orleans coffee Co, they are back open & ready to ship.6 feet of water in the old warehouse sort of kick the bottom out of the Business , but with all that coffee & all that water, I bet it didnt smell as bad as just all the water in other places hahahaha , Ummmmm Cofffeee hahaha, got to see some humor in it or cry thinking about it, well I look for the humor !
I have a pork roast sitting in crushe garlic & onions with a little olive oil & fresh crushed black pepper, it will go in the oven soon with some dry fruit & a little White Zin. & since I have the garlic out & crushed, maybe some garlic mashed spuds today , or maybe I should mix up a batch of polenta with cheese & garlic, for sume reason I am in a garlic mood, maybe I dont have enough gas hahahahaha !
I drove up to Erie Pa Friday afternoon for a cigar tasting that I was hosting about 120 miles North of me , it was a great drive , 2 pit stops on the way up to get rid of all the coffee & a fine Monte "A" for the drive up, what could be better, I took a thermos of coffee & Cuban Monte "A" got enough ashes to need to empty the ash tray when I got there , I had to "suffer" one of my favorite cigars on the way home , a Wonderful Rich & strong Lamperia , I do like them a lot, ( but not as much as a Cuban Monte) , but then who would'nt? I am not a snob when it comes to contraband smokes , when I can smoke one I do, I will admit the taste is great , but there are a lot of Great non Cuban smokes out there , & I guess its the mystic of the forbidden fruit that makes them so in demand , I have no problem with a fine Nicarguan, Dominican or Hondouran, My every day grab & go smoke is a Cacique Torp from Tabacaleria Tropical , replacing my old every day cigar the Davidoff Double R Churchill , hahahahahaha !!! Yea dont I wish !!
My wife was so good to me this week I cant begin to tell you how good! A small package was siting on the table when I got home from a tuff day onn the road ( hahahaha ) yea tuff , coffee , cigars & BS all day hahahaha
Well in the box was 15 Rockey Patell Vintage 92 Torps, she had ordered for valentines day & they were on back order ! as well as a 5 pack sampler of Don Carlos , dammmmmmm she is good to me & to top it off I find an other sampler in the box, 10 Hemmingways , 5 sigs & 5 classics , Dammm she is tooooooooo gooooood to me . Dammmm woman where is the Whisky !!! hahahahaha
On my drive up & back to Erie I managed to get 25.7 MPG on the OLD Sable , 120K & still going strong, I hope to get 200 K on it before I need to replace it , KNOCK ON WOOD , I havent had to do anything other than regular maintance , tires, belts, hosees & brakes , oil get changed when the carpets need vacumed , that my gage , I dont worry about how many miles I get between oil changes, I go by the amount of cigar debris on the floor, , yes thats how I do it, the place that changes my oil also vacumes the car, so when I need it cleaned out, I get the oil changed ! hahahaa , hey it works for me , I dont worry about it , by the time I get back to the shop he can tell me how many miles I had since the last change & it is always between 3 & 5 k , , the more I smoke the faster the floor gets dirty, the sooner I get the oil changed ! Now if I could just get him to clean the INSIDE of the windshield I would have it made !!!!!! , the inside of the glass sun roof is starting to get a great coating on the inside, cutting down on the glare of the sun on bright days when I just have the roof tipped & not open full. hey the car is 5 years old & I have been smoking cigars in it since the day I drove it out of the show room, I lit one up sitting behind the wheel before I pulled it out of the showroom, right out the door I went & enjoyed a cigar & a cup of coffee on the way home, but I do miss my old Tuarus, it had 213K on it , the ashtray was full & it needed tires & would need a battery soon, so it was time ! hahahaha yea dont I wish I could do that hahahaha
When I was in Erie I was able to stop at the Rehab hospital to Visit Mike, he has been there since for ever, it seams , I did see him at his home one day but he went back to the hospital soon after that & then i ended up in myself & this was the first time I had a chance to visit with him since Christmas , we had about 1 hour , then he had to go to a session with the speach pathologist & I had to get to the cigar shop for the tasting, it felt good to see him again, I do miss hanging out with him, but now it looks like he will never be able to come home to stay . he will be in a nursing home the rest of his time . Sad . Very sad. , I am so perplexed by this I love him like a brother, but then I feel as his wife said he should have never work up , living like this after all he went through , 54 Years old, the strong heart of a 20 year old & the mind of a 7 year old , to be trapped in the frozen body , no use of his right hand or leg , no feeling in the hand at all , But to remember what he did last year & know he can never do it again. SO FRIGGEN SAD
dammm I hate to wind up on a downer but that about all I have from the Burgh this Sunday Morning, the Boss just came in from cleaning up the snow, she turned on the heat in the Qtr.Deck, brought in the Sunday paper & told me to GET OUT Of THE HOUSE , BUT AFTER you get the pork roast in the oven ! hahahaha
So I better do what I am told to do or no Peace in the house today , & no Peace means No PIECE hahahaha
Enjoy, Vince

"the day I drove it out of the show room, I lit one up sitting behind the wheel before I pulled it out of the showroom, right out the door I went & enjoyed a cigar & a cup of coffee on the way home, . . ."

You are one SICK dude. And that's why I love you. And why we all love you. To read Vince is to love him. :duh: :rotflmao: :sm_angel:

As for Mike:

"SO FRIGGEN SAD"

Yes, I agree, and my prayers are with he, his family and all his loved ones, like you Vince. It really hurts to see someone you love like that, helpless and totally dependent. That's not living. May he rise to a glorious spot in The Kingdom at an appointed time.

And as for THIS part:

"So I better do what I am told to do or no Peace in the house today , & no Peace means No PIECE hahahaha
Enjoy, Vince"

See??? Proof POSITIVE that when he WANTS to, Vince really CAN spell correctly. Peace, piece, very, very good, Vince, go to the head of the class.
:rotflmao: :cryinlaugh: :sm_angel: :flush:

My wife and children return tomorrow from St. Kitts. FuManChu, my golden retriever, and I, ever mindful of the gathering storm that is approaching, reached out for the last fleeting colors of idle pleasure. We packed a sandwich, drinks and made a beeline for the boat (humidor on board). As Emo Phillips, an Irish philosopher noted: “Women speak because they wish to speak, whereas a man speaks only when driven to speech by something outside himself -- like, for instance, he can't find any clean socks.”

Cigar: H. Upmann Sir Winston (vitola is Julieta). The stick begins smooth, fresh, and mellow, but not boring. The smoke builds to a rich and complex flavor halfway through. Many Cubans cigars have that most interesting characteristic of going through different flavor changes at various stages of the smoke, that can be quite surprising. By the end, I was getting a rich, spicy smoke that was so thick I could almost chew it.

IMO, the H. Upmann Sir Winston and Cohiba Esplendido are supposed to be the best Churchills money can buy. The Sir Winston I smoked had a flawless, world-class wrapper. The draw was smooth, lit up with no problems and had an excellent even burn. The taste was very complex, with notes of wood, vanilla and a heavy dose of spice.

Fu and I settled in on the boat, after he inspected and nosed around most of the upper deck. I opened a bottle of Blandy's Alvada 5 Year Old Rich Madeira. Madeira wine is produced on an island off the coast of Portugal and IMO, is like no other wine in the world; definitely an acquired taste. Four grapes are used to make this fortified wine: Sercial, Verdelho, Bual and Malvasia (Malmsey). Usually each grape is bottled as a single varietal (but by doing a master blend, these folks create a very large flavor not found in the single varietals). These grapes are responsible for the sweetest styles of Madeira: notes of nut, burnt sugar and crème caramel. Fabulous with a powerhouse cigar.

Some dog owners have retrievers, pets that swim or have extra abilities. Fu is 14 months old and is, a cigar dawg. What is a cigar dawg? IMO, it is more attitude than ability. Fu, is my compañero, listens to most of my commentary without interruption (if I become too tedious he just gets up and looks for something that smells good, or he might be able to play with or eat), joins me in singing occasional Irish shanty songs with spot-on woofs and howls (Le Madame insists that they are more like groans and that I am killing the dawg). We are a matched pair onboard: Fu with his bandana around his neck and visor; me with my New York Yankees baseball cap, cargo shorts and a t-shirt. As males, neither one of us has to worry about shaving from the neck down and we both enjoy Homer Simpson.

FuManChu, since joining the family, has taken more than one bullet for the team. He has been criticized for and accused (even unfairly) of doing things that either me, my daughters (or Fu) all had equal motive and opportunities to commit. However, adding complications to a crime scene is usually beneficial to any group of criminals, and the girls and I gladly welcomed Fu to a lineup of the usual suspects whom Le Madame will pursue, with unrelenting fury.

While explaining this to Fu, I noticed his attention was wandering. I got out our lunch and poured another glass of Madeira. Fu was right there, closely observing the ‘division’ of the sandwich (brown bread, mashed potatoes with a layer of potato chips).

Sunset is in an hour -- just enough time for nap.

P.S. Brother Vince – Your riffs, since being able to smoke cigars again, are better than ever. IMO, not many folks can write in a ‘stream of consciousness’ and have everything come out right at the end; let alone charming and very funny.

Bloofington – I read with concern your post about being very sick. I hope you are feeling better. But, you and Vince, mixing it up this weekend on the thread; just like old times. I love it.

Yes, we're taking it on the road. Oh wait, it's already on the net. Even better. :cryinlaugh: On the 12th, I began to get a bad cold. I made my linguini with garlic and oil last weekend, 67 cloves of garlic, and it began to leave. But it stayed with me until at least yesterday, in terms of weakness and throat problems. The mild fever left a couple days ago. Asthma knocking me around a bit the past couple months, left over from the major attack on October 25th, no doubt. Overall, pretty strong, and when this cold leaves, will be even better. Thanks, and thanks for another wonderful post, Cian.

But since I live so close to W.VA. ~ PIECE SISTER , hahaha, ( good thing I dont have a sister, but I do have a few cousins ) hahahaha

Cian, Vince, Bloof and all, thanks for making this thread one of my favorite things to do on sunday.
Me? I'm afraid I can't quite compare.......smokes wise, I happen to be a rare breed of tobacconist (check me on wordage and/or spelling), I unfortunately smoke cigars when I can, smoke cigarettes when I drink more than 2 beers, and last but not least I chew tobacco..........all the time. Umm.....I'm thinkin I got the tobacco thing covered.
Anyway tonight I decided to settle in with some mediocre beer, Marlboro lights, and season 3 of "24" boxed set. 2 or was it 6 beers in, I looked in my humi, nothing but a Cigar.com Cameroon lonsdale and a couple of blue labels. I chose the cameroon, it's
been in since I bought it, which hasn't been long but it wins the award for longest in.
After smoking several cigarretes the impact (taste wise) of a decent cigar is very near astounding, I think I'm starting to understand earthy in regards to taste. The extra time in the humi was actually noticable , lots of rich smoke, easy draw, easy light, and spicy at the end. I was surprised a the diffrence between the first smoke and the last.
If I can figure out a way to stop spending money on my reef aqaurium I'll get some more.
By the way I can't recommend "24" highly enough, especially with a nice cigar.
Well it wasn't a cuban, but it was still all good.
chow,
Pic

Just stop smoking cigarettes. They're not a true tobacco product, bad for you and everyone around you, and a drain on your wallet. Cigars, on the other hand, are relaxing, even meditative, and in moderation can be a wonderful addition to your life. Thanks for chiming in. The more the merrier, although with Vince, even though he's half the man he was a year ago, he's always merry. Hmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm, . . . :cryinlaugh:
