Sunday Morning Smoke

Good Morning y'all. Sunday, for me, was a day of rest because Saturday was a day of partying. I have a nephew that is in the Coast Guard. He is in the Tidewater area undergoing training. He is going to the Gulf on one of the Patrol Boats operated by the Coast Guard. As he said he has to learn how to shoot first and ask questions second instead of the other way. Oh Vince he is a PO2 Cook.
Anyway, at two O'Clock the 3 racks of Baby Back ribs went on the Garage Grill. They were rubbed real good with a Kansas City sweet rub. Lots of Brown Sugar and pepper. At 2:30 the boneless leg of lamb went on the back porch grill. Slowly turning on the spit. I rubed it friday night with a Greek rub. Oregano, Dill, Cracked peper and sea salt.
At 2:45 I fired up the Padron 4000 Maduro. It is the closest legal thing I have found to a Cuban Cigar. Ring gage 50, length about 6.5. For me about an hour and fifteen min. cigar. A well constructed stick with a very easy draw and clouds of smoke. It starts out like a Monty Two and slowly builds in strength and flavor until you burn your fingertips.
Beverage of choice was home poured Black and Tans. It is getting close to St Patricks Day and I need to get in shape. Nephew Dave showed up about 3:30 and went straight to the Guinesses. The Bass ran out quickly so ot was straight Guinessfor the rest of the day. It is a good thing I layed in a whole case, It did not out last the day.
For dinner I opened a couple of bottles of Itialian wine I found at Trader Joes. It went great with the lamb.
After dinner it was Partagas Black Robustoes. Short, Thick, Black and Powerful. They went great with the Lemoncella I had hidden in the frig. It was a pretty nice Saturday.
Oh I almost forgot, the worlds greatest grandson was there for entertainment. He would wonder into the garage and beg cheese and crackers then dart off for some more serious playing.

Thanks for chiming in. The more the merrier, although with Vince, even though he's half the man he was a year ago, he's always merry. Hmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm, . . . :cryinlaugh:

Glad you know the difference between Merry & Mary , hahahaha

Enjoy, Vince

I invited him to cook dinner one night just to see if can cook anything other than Navy Food. :? He is right good with a carving knife. He sliced that boneless leg of lamb right pretty. It takes a long while for them NAVY COOKS to unlearn all them bad habits.

Thats why I never picked up any bad habbits ! other than smoking ,drinking , & chasing ladys , but now when I catch them I am to tired to do anything about it ! , since I have been married 35 years you would think she would slow down a bit to let me catch her, BUT NOOOOO she is still playing the game hahahahahaha
Enjoy, Vince

Hope you weren't lonely at the Q deck Vince. Been busy with doctor stuff with my mom. I'll try to free up next wed! :D

it was a quiet evening on the Qtr.Deck last night , Randy showed up about 8, we pulled the cork on one of Islays finest & fired up a few Toranio's, a little Bach on the CD player fallowed by Gato Barberri, so we had the best of classical & some Latin Jazz,
Cue Passa Hombre, it was a good evening, Hope all goes well with your Mother, see you next Wed?
Enjoy, Vince

Ahhhhhhhhh, Gato Barbieri. A friend of mine and I used to listen to him quite a lot, back in '78-79 during a certain period in our lives. Poinciana was the song.

"We love-a-makin' you dance to it, . . ."

Just returned home at 1:20 a.m. from NYC, hauling about 30 pounds in my arms. Who Else Ya Gonna Call Taxi Co. closed for the day because of the snow storm, which dumped approximately six inches on my property and surrounding areas. I guess they were thinking it might be a whole lot more. Got a recorded message on my answering machine this morning, don't know how they got my number, maybe some kind of public service announcement. It announced that due to the accelerating storm, and then went into all the local school districts that would be closed, blah, blah, blahhhhhh.

I have no idea what time the snow started, or stopped up here, but six inches don't stop Dutchess County fer nuthin', pardner. Well, it stopped Who Else Ya Gonna Call Taxi Co., so I did the seven mile walk from New Hamburg Station with the 30 pounds of groceries, dirty clothes, etc., making at least 1,000 feet of elevation, blah, blah, blahhhhh, and here I am, pushing 50, 1 hour and 45 minute walk, safe at home, praising The Lord, happy to see the hippo cat, and can't wait until I finish getting settled, pour me-self some whiskey and take a nice hot shower.

I may be in terrific shape, but I'm hurtin'. I'm old and my spine and joints are shot!!! :cryinlaugh: :rotflmao: :rotflmao: :cryinlaugh:

Yea Right, In the Snow, Uphill. :rotflmao: Who do you think your trying to BS. It was 80 degrees yesterday. I had a Padron 4000 Maduro sitting in the Garage with a t-shirt and shorts on. Six inches of Snow.

:cryinlaugh: :cryinlaugh: :cryinlaugh: :cryinlaugh: :rotflmao: :cryinlaugh:   :rotflmao: :rotflmao: :pumpkin: :pumpkin: :cryinlaugh: :pumpkin:

BigTom rocks the stadium!!!

just like Jimmy Buffett said changes in latatude bring changes in attitude 6 inches of snow in NY , 80 F in Va. Beach , but we all get old , I wonder why my father didnt move to hawaii when he had the chance back in the 50's, I could have grown up with a surf board under my arm instead of a snow shovel, well that just the way it worked out I guess , sitting here with a sweter on , when I could have been sitting here with beads of persperation on my forhead instead. , but then I would have never grew up in my grandmothers kitchen & never learned to be a chef, , but who knows i might have still become a chef in Hawaii , Oh well I am here in Pittsburgh & I love it here, but as I get older I long for the warmer weather .
Enjoy, Vince

My wife isn't even 30 yet and is already talking about moving to Florida. If I could find a job down there that pays me the same as I make here I would be down there in a heart beat.

Vince, if you had grown up in Hawaii, it would have added a whole new meaning to the term Big Kahuna. :cryinlaugh: :cryinlaugh: :cryinlaugh: Of course, now you're just Half a Kahuna. :rotflmao:

BUT , had I grown up on a sunfiled beach would have I ever got to 417? or even become a cigar smoker, I would have never had the day with my Uncle Riley & my first mashe wheeling, who knows what would have happened to me, sort of the butterfly effect, nothing would have been the same, I woulnt have ever seen the inside of a steel mill, & might have never joined the Navy , never been the chef at a country club, or met any of you guys here on the web, who knows maybe we all would have been better for it ! or worse, who knows ??? Enjoy, Vince

Vince, I think it's safe to say that you FULFILLED your destiny. :cryinlaugh: :cryinlaugh: :rotflmao:

My Daughter ever complains to me If Grandpa Orend had moved to Hawaii when you were young I could have grown up in Hawaii , but then I tell her I would have never met your mother had I been in Hawaii, & she said "SO"? hahahaha , I think she might be blond under her auburn roots ! hahahahaha
Enjoy, Vince

NO WAY.................. I am showing off this new Bod hahahahahaha , No shirt for me , just swim trunks & a BIG SMILE hahahahaha , late at night in the water, just the smile hahahahahaa
Enjoy, Vince

Ahh, Hawaii. I miss my home. Parents are coming next month to visit, on their way to Vegas.

One thing I like about Hawaii is the wardrobe: When going to an interview, a nice "business" aloha shirt (Hawaiian shirt) and slacks was considered "dress up."

When going to a family dinner, shorts and an aloha shirt was semi-casual.

Now, restaurants require shirt and SHOES. My goodness, who the heck wears shoes in Hawaii? I always wore slippers (that's flip-flops for you yankees). :p Times have changed.
