Well its off to the Qtr.Deck for some coffee & a smoke, it is raining here so i will be catching some Z's on the couch in the Qtr.Deck this afternoon for sure !

I really like this thread so I will bump it back up to the front page w/ my recent smokes.

This past wednesday a good buddy of mine had a get-together because he was being shipped to basic the next day. I gave him my CAO Odyssey (which he saved) and told my other buddy to grab me a cigar since I knew he had a few on hand and he owed me. He handed me a Cusano 10th anni. I had never had one of these, and I really enjoyed it. Very smooth, and burned SOOOO nice.

Today I went to the local cigar shop and grabbed a couple cigars. A two dollar Flor De Olivia torpedo and one of the shops house cigars made by the Olivia family as well. (I've had the Corojo version of the house blend and I liked it so I wanted to try the Maduro one).

Well anyway, me and my buddy headed to Starbucks to grab some coffee to drink w/ our cigars. I decided to smoke the Flor de Olivia and save the other for a different time. And I'm not too if it was purely the cigar or the fact that I hadn't had much to eat yet.. but damn that cigar kicked my butt, and I loved every minute of it. I'm going to have to get a bundle for some everyday smokes. Wait nevermind, I just won a bunch of cigars on cbid and I dont have a humidor. OOPs... coolerdor here I come.

Ahhhhh, the old winning cigars without a humidor trick. Yup, you're a member, alright. :sm_angel:

Good Morning to all of you in the cigar world & a new poster here Gonzo , it is Sunday 16 July,06, it is a HOT day here in Da Burgh , just after 10AM & it is all ready 80, high today is going to be 90+ the A/C is all ready on in the Qtr.Deck, I forgot to shut it off last night !
We had a little MINI herf last Friday night , a good time was had by all, a lot of great cigars were smoked a lot of coffee consumed a fair amount of single malt scotch was imbibed & a fair about of BS was spread in the pasture , all in all it was a regular Friday night at the Qtr.Deck
the grass needs cut, & I dint want to go out in this heat, so if anyone wants to trade a little bit of time for some primo cigars I do have a riding mower ............... hahahaha, my nephew is on vacation ............ dammm lazy kid would rather go to Fla. & visit his cousins at the beach & let me cut my own grass, hahaha
Had the Colon checked, every thing was fine, don't need to go back for 5 years , hahahaha it was a ting of beauty, hearing the words, a very good friend of mine had this done last year & he had a tumor about the size of a baseball , a lot of radiation , chemo & the skilled hand of a wonderful doc & he is back to being a real pain in the ass, , no CIGARS , no coffee , No WHISKY , but he is still going to the links & beating the H3LL out of that little white ball with a big stick. , the Most boring sport out there, the ONLY good thing about golf is the 19th hole !, lets face it , in any sport or team game , you hit the ball, some one hits it back or kicks it back or through it back, even in Bowling the machine returns your ball to you , in golf you hit the ball & then you get in a cart & go after the ball, you hit it again & get back in the cart to chase it again, me, I just stay in the club house & drink !
to dammm hot to cook today, so I will make a salad & grill up a steak for the boss & I to share, if I find some blue cheese & sour cream I might make a little dressing , or then I just might open a bottle of Wishbone Italian, I feel lazy today !
I have a mug of Margoheppie this morning, it was in front & I didn't feel like digging for the Kona , NOW THATS LAZY!, but the next pot will be Kona , it just wouldn't be Sunday with out the Kona !!
I will be getting the left eye cut this week ,Wed. morning to be sure got all the tests done Saturday so I am good to go , I don't mind telling you but this has me a little spooked , all the past medical actions have all been under sedation, & I don't know what happened after I get that first shot to "mellow" me out, but this one I will be awake for, "look up, look down, look left, look right" , I need to be awake for this, dammmmmm it just has me freaked out a little, H3ll no freaked out a LOT ! Oh well it needs to get done, I cant see much out of the left eye , so if I want to get back to driving soon , I better "get ER done" !
I got to spend Friday Morning with my daughter & grandsons , she is working on he masters at Duquesne Univ. in Pittsburgh , but she is taking all her classes on line , well for some reason she had to go to the school for some thing & went along to ride heard on the grandsons , hahahaha, just like putting the fox in charge of the hen house , here I am on a campus with a bright 10 year old & 8 year old, , & just because my drivers license states that I am way over 21 I am more like 11 or 12 , just a big kid at heart, well we had the run of the campus for about an hour & a half, , first stop medical building get some rubber gloves, then to science & engeneering building to get some helium to fill the gloves , then to the Student union to injest said helium & talk like donald duck , my daughter found the 3 of us at a table surrounded by students laughing & haveing a great time had she been a few minutes laterI think grandson number 1 would have gotten a phone number hahahahaha , he was wooing they ladys by playing keyboards , he has a roll up electronic keyboard battery powered that he can play anyplce there is room to unroll it , lets just say he was a hit, & the fact that both of them have bright red Mowhawk hair cuts ( ahhh yes there is some of there mother in them for sure ) didnt hurt at all.
well this is the Sunday Morning smoke & I had better get to that, I have a Monte White corona all set to be fired up as soon as I get off the computer , last week I was in New Willmington Pa , at Lords Tobacco, they had a special by 2 get one free , so I had to take advantage of the FREE cigar , if it wasnt so far I would go back every day !
dont forget to check out the POD CAST from the burgh herfers , Blowen smoke , go to http://www.burghherfers.com & click the pod cast icon
Time for more coffee & a cigar ! Enjoy the weekend , well whats left of it anyway !!
Enjoy, Vince

Now how did that happen ?? I just clicked one time as far as I know !

A) It's July 16, not July 06. Old farts can't count, I guess...

2) I have a Gurkha Grand Master Dos Capas, 8.5" x 52 ring. It may take 10 or 15 minutes of my day.

I had a Gurkha Expedition and a Cohiba Churchill. The Gurkha was suprisingly mellow as this was my first Expedition, but I must say I enjoyed the change of pace. It has become rather difficult now to smoke the red dot Cohibas after having sampled some of the ISOM, but alas, it is a burden I must carry.

:)

Go back & read it again 16 July 06 , the date is 16, the month is July & the year is 06 I think !, Military date, never got out of the habbit , sorry for the confusion . Enjoy, Vince

Vince,
Good luck with the procedure, I'm sure a tough old bird like you will be fine, you just had the colon looked through, what can they do to you going through the eye??
hahahaha as you would say!

Just had a Camacho SLR Maduro. It's been sleeping for a few months now, and was pretty good. Had some minor burn issues at the start, but those straightened out quickly. Very well rolled, good draw, typical maduro flavors, plenty of smoke. I enjoyed it, and am looking forward to my next one.

The Colonel said:
With your age and all, I thunk you were saying July 6, 1916.

Thats OK with my scatter brain thinking some times I might have ment 1916 , , thats just a few years after my father was born I think.
glad some one is looking after me, Lord know I need it !
Enjoy, Vince

First, sorry that this is not a morning post, but as you'll see my day was kinda full.

I am pretty new to this forum, but this thread is the one that really enticed me to join and post. I will warn you that my Sundays are not normally this fun.....

So today (actually this whole weekend) was kinda special. It was the annual Pittsburgh Vintage Grand Prix. This is a road race of vintage race cars that takes place on city streets. (I think it may be the only one....) It raises money to help provide care, treatment, and support to developmentally disabled individuals in the area. I volunteer to do race course communications and usually work one of the turns. It is the best seat in the house! Race cars passing by you at racing speeds, the wind tugging on your pantleg as they pass, and the sound of the exhaust just pounding in your ears.

I think the oldest car that was on the track was a 1919 Ford "T" Speedster. (I think the name was stretching it a bit.....) Some if my favorites were the '55 Jaguar XK140HC, '63 Jaguar XKE FHC, almost all the 1950s Daimlers, and....ok....almost all the cars. Seeing these old cars out racing (and I mean real racing for those cars) is pretty fun.

Since I had some time this morning, and the view from my station is nice, I lit a Hemingway Short Story and just let the moment build. Topping it off was a great thermos of Kona which was a great idea that I borrowed from Vince. (Thanks Vince! Kona does make a good Sunday morning even better!)

Well, its getting later in the evening and I think the back deck is calling me. No....wait...that's the humidor. Let me see what stick it is suggesting for the evening smoke.

Cheers!

Nice post!

Thanks for sharing your experience today, I'm a gear head, and would have loved to have experienced that! Great idea combining your volunteer duty and your hobby too, ahh coffee and a smoke!

Keep up the good work!

Back in the early 80's I was a vol. for the vintage Gran prix, I enjoyed the H3ll out of it, one year I took my Mercur XR4TI & parked it on the golf course between to old rolls Royce & an all stainless steel 1940 Ford Coupe, it is a great charity bennifit, but the past few years I havent had the time or the energy to go back up there, maybe next year !

Cyclist, you should stop at the Qtr.Deck some time , PM me for the phone or just mapquest the addy ! I am about 20 minutes North of the point, 5 minutes from Cranberry & the turnpike & RT.19

Enjoy, Vince

Vince - I can never tire looking at some of those cars. You really have to ask yourself where has all the creativity in the car industry gone. I know you have to make some compromises for fuel economy and such, but do you have to sacrifice all style just to make some extra bucks? And PM sent.

rmrdaddy - It is rare that I can make things all work together to achieve near perfection on earth. (It would have been perfection if it had been about 10 to 15 degrees cooler.....) This event is definitely a blast. I think it is the 3rd weekend in July every year (and there are other associated events like another race at a track throughout July), so maybe next year?
