:cryinlaugh:

Great post, Vince!!! We got another inch or so last night too. I'm having my coffee now, forget what I've got here. I think I finished the Colombian Supremo but I forget what I had in the freezer besides that. :duh: The first Sunday without football is always strange for me. It means I have to do some work around here. That means getting off my own butt, and quite a fine butt too I might add. Or so I've been told. :cryinlaugh: :cryinlaugh:

First I've got to catch up on this past week's All My Children episodes. I think when I stopped the tape yesterday I was in the middle of Wednesday's episode. :sm_angel:

All of my children ??? soap opera??? come on MISS ter Macho , I dont know any guy who admits to watching that stuff, well now I do anyway, I dont watch much TV other than the food network, just for Professional tips mind you & I do watch the discovery & history networks , love the Modern Marvels , & the Great chefs series on the Travel chan. again just for Professional reasons hahahaha !, I have been know to watch sponge bob when the granchildren are here !!!! Enjoy, Vince

Super Bowl Sunday: I got up this gloryous warm morning here in the Burgh & put on a pot of Freedom Roast coffee , fired up a Don carlos #3 , life is Great, I have the stuffed peppers in the crock pot & they will be ready about 5 or 5:30 depends on what time I get the mashed spuds made , the local green grocer had red & yellow bell peppers for 99 cents a pound, so I got 2 red & 2 yellow, some ground round ,rice , celery eggs onions & tomato sauce , a few hours later you have stuffed peppers !!! I think I will make a peach pie today, just for the fun of it, the peaches look nice & I havent had anything sweet in a few hours , so today looks like a good day for a pie , it is my Mother in laws birthday, & we took her a cake ( store bought ) last night , I drank a few cups of coffee & did have a slice of cake , & it had a great taste, now my sweet tooth is craving , , so I will feed it a SMALL amount of peach pie today , along with the stuffed peppers I should be fine with the weight reduction, I am holding just at 280 been there a few weeks now , need to get out & burn up some calories , but I have been way to busy smoking cigars , sipping coffee & single malt & listening to Jazz, blues & Bach !, & playing a little on line Texas hold em , & cant forget the grandsons, & watching sponge bob ! hahahahaa
My Doc took a teaching position at his alma mater back in Ohio some place so I need to get a new gastric Doc, I see one this week, dont know mutch about him , or his practice , but my old doc recomemened him & half of his staff is going to work there so I will give him a try, I hate switching Doctors , had to do it a few years ago when I changed insurance & my old doc didnt take my new insurance , Dammm if I would have know that I wouldnt have switched to the better coverage for more money & saved a Bunch of cash each month , oh well I did end up likeing the new doc, I found one who was a cigar smoker , now I have a new friend as well as a doc, but since he is moving 5 hours away , well that just sucks !, time for a road trip hahahaha ! ,
It is warm here in the Burgh we still have snow on the ground but the grass is showing through in places , I have a fresh mug of coffee & the Qtr.Deck is warm & ready for a morning round of Jazz & a little smoke from a Partagas #10 Maduro , got to get it started before the Rug rats get here ! Enjoy, Vince

There's Vince again!!! Good morning Sir and everyone reading this thread from week to week! And isn't that nice in and of itself?

You know, just to stay on topic, you notice how Vince leaps out of bed and smokes a Don Carlos #3 like it was breathing? I have to age one of those things for a year in my own humidor and I still get kicked in the head. :pumpkin: :cryinlaugh:

I try to stay a few boxes ahead, on the DC #3 right now I am only 1 box ahead, at one point I was over 15 , & with 25 smokes in a box, smoking about one box a month the ones I was smoking were over a year old , now it is just one month , I did have a dry spell on bying cigars just befor the big gut cut last april , sold off some great smokes & paid off the house , so the wife didnt need to worry about it if anything didnt come out 100% Well now I am building up the stock again, dont know if I will ever get back to the 11,000 sticks I had at the hight of the crazyness ! I had more cigars at home that I had at the Cigar shop ! Enjoy, Vince

Yes, I remember those posts about the depleted cigar collection. You did the right thing, and you still have enough cigars to smoke a BOX of Don Carlos #3 a month, did you say?

Anyway, I will be having a Super Bowl cigar, I just don't know which. I'd like to be ambitious enough to smoke a Hemingway Masterpiece, but I just got those in recently, and I can't smoke one of those until after about a year in my own humidors. Maybe a Classic, they're only the size of a Churchill and don't kick like a mule.

The great thing about being a Jets fan on Super Bowl Sunday is that I can actually relax, enjoy the game and not worry about who wins. :sm_angel:

Patriots - 41
Eaglets - 13

yes I go through about a box a month of the DC#3 I try to start each day with one, some mornings get by with out a cigar & when I go to get cigars for the shop I always have a #3 no matter what time of the day it is ,I grab some thing there for the ride home , always have coffee in the car , never Ever do I drink & drive so NO SCOTCH with the cigar when I am in the car, might hit a pot hole & spill some or drop my 200 year old Irish Crystal Brandy Snifter LOL .
Super bowl, well I dont know if I will get a chance to watch it , the grandchildren are here & Sponge BOB is king here , when the kids are here !!!
I have a few numbers on a few football pools (6 pools total )& have no idea what my numbers are, I will check them on Monday & hope I hit the big one for a grand, I will be happy with the low one I can get 25 bucks on that one, , oh well I will see monday ! Enjoy, Vince

my oh my where did the time go , well its been a quiet week here in lake woebegone , oops wrong forum hahaha, its been a quiet week here in the Burgh ! the snow is just starting to fall again it will be changing to rain later today & kick my behind if it dont freeze to a big sheet of ice over everything , I did have a few wonderful smokes this week, a Predomo Champange , very nice & I did have a real disapointment, a Griffin Maduro , I would have rather had a macanudo, it was so mild & easy not what I was looking for at 5 pm , might make a good morning smoke but at 8.50 it was more than my Don Carlos #3 so to hell with that idea, I am looking for a morning smoke that is less per stick than 7.25 that the DC#3is selling for , but I dont want to give up any taste or depth , so I think I will just stay with the one who got me here ! long live the DC#3 !!!, the 4 is ok but not as big as the 3 , it will do when I dont have any 3's but right now I am 2 boxes ahead ,my wife & I are going to baby sit the rug rats tonight , my daughter & son in law are headed out for a few hours, the WWE is in the burgh tonight & they are going , gee I wish I had that kind of time & money to go out & get a free baby sitter , oh wait I dont need a baby sitter anymore she is 32 ! my how time flys !!!
it has been a bad weekend here 2 friends passed away, one from the banjo club I belong to & a Navy buddy Chief Namith , both will be missed, & I need to show up at both places to pay my respects, , it will be a tuff Sunday afternoon. on the bright side, both are now pain free & in a much better place !I hope ! hahaha
the Sunday paper is full of adds & sales , but since I am tapped out I will by pass them all, speaking of the by pass I am down 145 pounds from last April, comming in at just about 270 stark naked fresh out of the shower & removing all the lint from the belly button cleaning the wax out of my ears & blowing my nose , cutting all of my nails , I should have gotten a hair cut, then I might have made it under 270 ! hahaha , whats this , I hear a voice from my humi, speaking a strange spanish phrase , OH no it is a Cuban Monte #2 sitting there with a big mug of fresh brewed Brazilian coffee , it seams to want me to go to it , yes I will go to it , ahhha cutter & a lighter, oh whats this Johnny Walker Green Label Scotch , my I must have done something right last night to get the wife to make coffee & pour a scotch for me as wekk as get out a smoke & the cutter & lighter, I think she is trying to tell me get off the computer & get out to the Qtr.deck so she can use the computer & read the paper with out me bugging her for what ever I can get this morning hahahaha ! time to go ! Enjoy, Vince

Vince and Bloofington,

I'm new to this forum (but now new to posting). I started reading the "Sunday" thread to its current point today. Wonderful stuff; fabulous. The back and forth between you two is great. As I read more I sat back, lit a cigar (Vegas Robaina Don Alejandro -- Cuban) poured a cup of my favorite coffee (Peet's Kenya) and chortled and chuckled my way through all 9 pages.

Bloofington -- with all due respect to your obvious writing ability, Vince has, perhaps, the most interesting and funny stream of conciousness writing style (perhaps Garrison Keillor was like this before he became well known) that I've read in some time. The two of you paint a tapestry of images so vivid that I can almost smell the pot roast, coffee and feel the snow dripping in my shoes (5 hours of snow shoveling can do that). Top that off with your knowledge about cigars and I would imagine that I will be a faithful reader, just about forever. :D

Thank you both for your commentaries.

cian

Glad you enjoyed it, Bloof & I have been cyber friends for many years, I enjoy the give & take as much as you did, I have been over the years a radio talk show host (4 years) ,a caterer all my life, my radio show was food related, I am now retired for the third time, I just keep going back for more & getting out of the house to stay from underfoot with the wife of 35 years . we started this line on a different web site many years ago & slid over to here , gee I dont know when , I dont look at dates much anymore , I write a food story for Cigar Magazine , each month, you can get it on line at cigar magazine dot com , just look in the old storys , the last printed one was called a Sunday afternoon combo I think . I am a scotch drinker & bloof is a bourbon drinker , aside from that we do like Cigars a lot . I had my first cigar in 1955 & havent stopped yet.back in the mid 60's I was the ast. chef at a local country club & grew up cooking at my grandmothers bestro , where my parents met ! so I have been in the kitchen all my life ,I was up to about 420 pounds last April, had a gastric by pass & now have lost about 145 pounds , now your up to date on me some what, you better ask Bloof about him self ! Enjoy, Vince

Cian, thank you for the nice words. Vince is indeed the more interesting of the two of us. Vince is undoubtedly one of the most interesting people, of those I've never met or have met, take your pick. While Vince is one of those I've never met, we started this in the spring of 2000 on "another web site" and thankfully it's still going. Regrettably I was not able to get on the web site this past weekend to see his great Sunday morning post and reply to it.

Vince does indeed have a rambling style that sometimes requires more than one read, but oh what he packs in there. It's great, and it's very nice to hear that people appreciate his writing and mine as well. As for me, I've been a boring old man since I was 12, and 36 years later nothing's changed.

Vince and I have also exchanged cigars and because of him I was able to taste cigars that were made when I was back in high school or not too far out of it. Unfortunately, I couldn't get his radio show back when he was on, but I'll bet it was a gas. You've gotta love a guy who can get up early on a Sunday morning and smoke a Don Carlos #3 for starters. It's too bad that our old pal Ramone2 is a bit busy these days. It was wild exchanges between he and Vince that helped get me hooked on the internet five years ago, and it has led to friendships and interests that will last a lifetime. If you noticed, Vince does know a thing or two about Garrison Keilor, and it's too bad we don't have more like Vince around this "once great republic."

I will certainly try my best to keep this going, because it's always a thrill that adds to my motivation when I read words such as Cian's. Here's to the internet chat rooms across the world, and especially to . . .

Your American Back Yard, where you can always come to hang your hat and set a spell, . . .

and be educated and entertained by the Vince's in this world. By the way, if you ever need a recipe for anything, he's the man.

In order to remain partly on topic, it wasn't Sunday morning but this afternoon, when my cigar of the day was one of those Symphony Churchills that Michaelsean sent me a while back. After a few months in my humidors, Desk Top III to be precise, this cigar drew fine, burned really, really slow and tasted wonderful. There's a review on my first one somewhere on this forum. If anyone out there picks up the Symphony Churchills, just remember it's not a one hour or slightly more smoke like most Churchills. This one burns so slow you'd better make at least two hours and savor it.

By the way folks, I can see that Cian is no doubt a connoisseur of fine cigars and coffee by the choices made to read this post.

Bloof, I am glad we have a Connoisure on the thread & not an other "common sewer " like me hahahaha, you know that R2 did come to visit me a few years ago , we went on a cigar crawl with the burgh hurfers, check out our web site at Cigar crawl dot com . he was a little scared to come by him self & brought his big brother with him hahahaha !, Yes we did have a good time bugging his Young self, Dammm what I woulnt give for his youth ! it is helllll getting old, but I guess its better that going out young when you still look good ! hahahah 1 Enjoy, Vince

Well we made it through an other week here in the 'burgh , Barb had a ruff week cleaning all the snow in the drive way here & at her mothers , now we live 10 miles from her mother, her sister who has a 16 year old son is about a half mile away, he is "to busy" to go & clean his grandmothers snow from her driveway, but he has time to come here to mooch a good cigar for himself & his dad ! I dont quite get the picture ? do you ??? , we are getting ready for a winter storm , it should hit us some time tonight , glad I have nothing planned for Monday, Barb will be washing clothes & will be late getting out to do the snow here ! hahahaha !
Bloof, I did hear from your buddy Angus a few times this week, Poor guy he was making enough noise to wake the dead ! so it will be a great spring & summer with all the new little "Angus" running in the field !He is such a stud ! over 300 last year alone, His prostait gland must be the size of a football !
We did go for a "cigar ride " last night put over 100 miles on the car & I smoked a few coronas & drank a lot of coffee , one of the guys at the cigar shop who has been comming here & mooching cigars for a few year well he paid me back big time , a pound of Pure Kona Coffee & a Freedom Press pot , Nice suprize , I knew he was good for some thing, how ever some of the moochers are going to get cut off this year, I am tired of funding there bad habbits , even keeping a few dog rockets hasnt stopped them, I guess they smoke the rockets when they buy there own smokes so they dont mind smoking them for free , well that will stop this summer for sure, one of the "MOOCHERS" wanted me to cook dinner for him & his wife, it was an anniversery of some sort, so I said ok, I will do it for the price of the food, lets both go shopping & you pay for the food, well he didnt want to Pay for the food , he was going to let me cover it then give me 10 bucks a month till he had it paid, NO FREEKING WAY , I told him to go shove it where the sun dont shine , he hasnt been back for a smoke since , AMEN !! should have told him off years ago , I would have saved a few boxes of good cigars & a few bundles of dog rockets , not to mention all the booze & food he has "helped "him self to over the years , now he comes to the shop, brings his pipe, gets a half ounce of the cheep bulk pipe tobacco for 75 cents & sits , reads & smokes but stays out of the BYOB rack & hasn't been back to the Qtr.deck ( my smoking room at home ) , but I am sure it will only be time & he will get bold again & start to mooch again, he did talk about moving back to Germany( his wife is from there ) but he cant get a passport till he is off probation , seams like he had a little trouble at work , & got into it with his co workers & boss, got a nice fine , & some "hospital" time 2 years probation, so now he is a 600 a month burden on the taxpayers , cant work so he gets Social security disability , 600 isnt enough to live on , but his wife works & they dont have any kids (thank God) , when I was working at the radio station I was making just 540 a month gross & paying taxes out of it, he gets his tax free !, I was making 6.75 an hour at the end & worked 20 hours a week, but I want there for the money thats for sure !
I am headed out to the kitchen to grind some Kona & fire up a Cuban Monte #4 or a 5, what ever the corona size is , the DonCarlos #3 is in the ashtry , a pile of ashes & sweet memories .
I dont know what we are having to eat today I didnt look to see what the Boss has got out of the freezer or if I am taking her out today , she hasent said & I havent asked hahahah !
I think I will pop the cork on the Johnny Walker green 15 year old Pure malt scotch to go with the Kona & the Monte , as Woolfgang Puc said LIVE ~ LOVE & Enjoy Life , so I do !!!!!
Enjoy, Vince

Where did the weekend go , here it is Monday morning & I didnt post my Sunday morning smoke, We had the grandsons here over the weekend & I just got to use the computer now ! , they have one at home but have to many Em ail friends to talk to & they just Hog the line all day when they are here , but it is better to have them here visiting one at a time than to just talk on the phone for 2 minutes because they are "Busy" , oh to be 7 or 9 again not approching 79 ! hahahaha , lets face it I am closer to 79 than 9 !!
well I started the day with my Don Carlos #3 & a big mug of fresh ground Kona , but you know I think I like the Kenya AA better with the DC# 3, Made Eggs & bacon for the boys & the boss , I hade one egg , & one slice of toast, to full of coffee to eat the bacon, I bet the Rabbi was happy about that ! , But not very happy about the Pork roast I made for supper !, oh it was great, nice & tender, jucy , the the Gravy was OUTSTANDING, , flavored with a little apple sauce & roasted pumpkin seed oil, it was like liquid velvet , some sweet potatos & carrots, ( getting all the beta carotine I can get ) I really had to much to eat & was very uncomfortable after we ate, but a sip of coke & great BURP & a fine after dinner H.Upman Chairmans reserve & a small sip of Taylor Floodgate port I was ready for the Board game competition of witch I lost playing "Sorry" with the 7 year old & checkers with the 9 year old, he also beat me , , I didnt try to loose, they just flat out kicked my butt !!!haha!
Got the Christmas lights down this morning & the Easter Eggs up !now if we could get rid of all the snow in the yard & drive way, I would be a much happier camper . one of the rug rats did pull a photo off the internet of Sir Winston with a cigar in his hand & printed it out , so now I need to get a new frame to hang it on the Qtr.Deck , along with Groucho & George Burns who flank a Great cigar smoker, ME ! hahahahaha , I am looking for a shot of David Letterman with a cigar to hang in the rouges gallery of Cigar smokers . I was going to cover the walls with Cigar posters but I think I like the photos of Smokers better , I have a stained glass window that a friend made me, of a man smoking a cigar , it hangs right in the front window of the Qtr.Deck, well its almost time for lunch, cant miss a meal hahahahaha ! Enjoy, Vince

A busy Sunday

My sunday morning smoke was a nice El Rico Habana Belicoso, but unfortunatly I was too tired to enjoy it. I drove to work with 3 hours of sleep (stayed over till 4am the night before because we were down 11 ambulances in Oakland). I was driving like a drunk, while attempting to enjoy my cigar, and a few sips of Peets Kenya. I survived the drive to work, and my supervisors were just happy to see I showed up in uniform and shaved for once.

A few hours later after hitting up the taco truck for some amazing fish tacos, I lit up a nice little CAO carillo. What an interesting smoke! Spicy flavors, and great aroma! Thank Fully it was a short smoke because the 911 system in Oakland was shot to hell, and I was stealing time to enjoy my smoke.

I lit up a Punch Rare Corjo on the way home to keep me awake. Driving home at 2 am after a 14 hour shift is mostly dangeros. Great smoke for the money, but not too impressive. I made it home alive to forage the kitchen for some left over pizza, and a bottle of asprin.

I have next sunday off so hopefully I can lay around, cook an amazing breakfast and drink a few pots of peets coffee.

welcome to the zoo rory , you will find the animals here some what tame till you step on a tail hahahaha ! Enjoy, Vince

Rory,

If you haven't read the previous nine pages of this thread, do yourself a favor and take a peak. Vince and Bloofington carry on in the best tradition of Ernie Pyle, Li'l Abner and Bloom County.

After reading their exchanges I almost always get a craving for coffee and pot roast; going out raking leaves or anything else these two have goin' on at the Cigar Shack. Additionally, these folks really know their stuff about cigars. I always learn something new (especially with Bloofington: He posts on many threads of this BB, writes very well and is a hoot) that I wasn't aware of by just following their threads.

I see you drink Peets coffee. I used to live in the Bay Area (San Francisco) and have been drinking Peets about the same length of time I've been smoking cigars (10 years). I just made a pot of Peets Arabian Mocha Sanani. I really think it goes well with cigars because it has a strong, pungent, winy flavor; full-bodied with complex flavors. My cigar while I read and laugh over Vince's grand kids and tales from the Qtr.deck? A Fonseca No. 1 Silk Wrap (Cuban), which for me is a fine afternoon cigar with a good cup of coffee.

Cian, I am a coffee lover, single malt scotch sipper & cigar smoker, as well as a retired chef & former Caterer , if it has anything to do with the taste buds, Man I am there !! I have never had Peets coffee but I think it would be fine, I get a lot of coffee out of Orleans coffee co. & from the coffee shop accross the street from B&B cigar in Rochester Pa, My home away from home , I am working on a pot of Kenya AA , I have a batch of Kona ready to grind in the morning( friends comming for breakfast) I dont drink Kona by my self, I guess I like to share it . A Don Carlos #3 will start the morning after breakfast, bacon, eggs, potato cakes , toast & coffee on the menu. Friday night is my night at the shop so no cigar for lunch , I will show up at the shop about 4 & close when the last customer gets out, some times it is 4 am,! depending on how well the night is , lots of BS, BYOB, coffee & pinchole ! I love to play double deck, but a lot of the times we cant get 4 to play so we just play single deck cut throat 3 hands .
it is still Winter here in the Burgh, wind chill was zero last night & it is snowing right now ! man this sucks , my wife is real tired of shoveling all the snow hahahahha !
I havent heard a peep out of Bloof , I dont know whats going on with him, I hope he is OK
I will try to get back Sunday Morning ! Enjoy, Vince

Just caught up on this thread. I've been having problems with my home computer, and at work there's been no down time lately. Thanks for the additional compliments, Cian. Vince is always entertaining. I just wonder what's going to happen when people go looking for Taylor Floodgate scotch! :cryinlaugh: You can tell by the ingredients he talks about using that he's a consummate chef. I should live so long to taste his cooking after reading Rory's post though.

Rory, thanks for joining the thread, and your first post was a combination of the hilarious to the point of laughing my balls off and a horror that scared ten years off my life! The moral of the story is either don't ever go near Oakland, or don't call 911 if you're ever there. :sm_angel:

Cian, . . .

:eek:mg:

You can get Arabian Mocha SANANI??!?!?!!?!?!?!?!? I've got to get with Peet's. I'm very happy with Oren's and Green Mountain, but I can only get the Arabian Mocha Mattari and I like the Sanani better. I tried a pound years ago, then it disappeared and I've been hankering for it ever since. People continue to give Peet's a big thumbs up, so I've got to get hip to them.

it is late Saturday night , I dont know if I will be able to post Sunday morning , so here goes ......
I had a great week but my wife didnt , she moved a few tons of snow, we got an inch or more every day this week it seams, total for the week was 12 inches , & she is Pissed off at the weather , not much you can do about it but complain !I tell her, God put it there let God take it away, ,,,
it will warm up & it will melt some day, but she has to clean it all, obsevive compulsive I guess.
I had lunch with a few friends today & sipped a 21 year old Dalmore single malt & drank a few mugs of Kenya AA , I had a small piece of beef & a Baked sweet potatoe , no desert, I didnt finish the beef, I was full !but I did smoke a masterpiece maduro, always room for a cigar !
The grandsons were here this week, it was a lot of fun took them to the local arcade spent a ton of money & got my butt kicked in air hockey again ! we all had a great time & thats all that matters but boy o boy can they spend the cash ! Good thing they dont smoke cigars, I would be broke & cigarless , since they are 9 & 7 they dont care for cigars, but I had my first one back in 1955 , a long time before some of you were born, maybe even before your parents ! dammm am I that old?????
The Boss wants a pot roast again so I will get up & get the cast iron dutch oven out & make her happy, last week the roast pork was just short of Fabulous , the apple sause in the gravy gave it a lot of body & sweetness , I dont know what to do with the beef to "kick it up a notch " , maybe a little Freedom Onion soup & simmer the beef in that, maybe a little "red gravy", then we can have a little pasta on the side instead of potatoes , I have no idea right now what I am going to do, I might just make Chicken haha !!
All I do know is that in the morning I will get the Sunday paper from the end of the drive way ( I wish I could get in delivered to the door !) & I will make breakfast for the wife & myself, after that I will be heading to the Qtr.Deck with a fist full of cigars & some CD's & a pot of coffee she will have the paper to keep her busy all day, about noon she will tell me how she want the beef & I will cook for supper, & about 5 we will eat, other than that I have no idea what is going on, nor do I want to know , she will find some thing to keep me busy thats for sure !
time for a shower & bed , maybe if I open a bottle of wine I might get lucky tonight , ...... only time will tell ! hahaha Enjoy, Vince
