Yeah, if you weren't already married to a woman WAYYY younger and even better looking than Megan. Megan's almost MY age. :cryinlaugh:

Good morning it is Sunday 24 Sept. 06 the first Sunday of the fall season, the trees have not started to change color here yet , & I still have a few green tomatos on the vine waiting for them to turn red as well as the leaves .

It is just 20 after 11 AM & for a lot of you the site is down, or you cant log on as I cant , but it is Sunday Morning & I have a lot to say , now if you dont want to listen thats fine , hey its a free country & you can do what you dammmmmm well please after all we are the Land of the FREE ! & that isnt meaning to go to macys & take what you want for free, thats not only against the laws of Man but it Violates one of the 10 comandments , which IMHO are the only laws we need ! Last week I did read a posting about the death of Common Sence & his long time friend Public Decency .

The shop is getting closer to an offical opening, stock is on the shelves & we should have a phone by weeks end , the security system will be up & operational with the phones & closed circut TV monitor of the Humidor,

Barb made a pot of Mayorgia Coffee this morning & I had a Mayorgia hi octane to Jump start my heart this morning, Dammmmm I should have went a few steps milder for the morning smoke hahahahaha , But I have a few taste tests to conduct this afternoon, I think I can be left alone when the football games are on , that way I can conduct my tasting with out interuption, I will be checking in from time to time for a score up date but I would rather enjoy this wonderfull autumn day with a cigar & a cup of coffee . speaking of Coffee the Kona is back on sale at Coscos 22 bucks for a 1.5 pound bag

Pork chops & rice are on the menu for today , there will be a side of carrots & peppers with vadillia onion & maybe a little bread crumb topping with some melted cheese if I get ambitious. hahahahah, I havent given much tought on how I am going to cook the chops , but it will hit me when I get to the kitchen, maybe I will take them outside & grill them or just pan fry & finish them in the oven,, , I will ask the boss how she wants them & thats the way I will go, better to be safe than sorry, I didnt want them fixed that way ! kind of thing hahahaha

Went to visit my Buddy Mike last night , he is doing FINE , he will be getting a new electric wheel chair the first of the month & be a lot more mobile than he is now , God Help the Neighborhood ! , he had a new cement walkway & apron put in front of the garage , he calls it his drag strip, , how fast can he make the chair go I have no idea , but the dog will not ever sleep on it again ,& make sure its tail is not hanging over the edge if you catch my drift, But I never want to be cruel to animals so I will just say the Vet made a payment on is BMW ! hahahahahahah

I keep noticing a LOT of new cigars hitting the market place, some good, some not so good, I just hope my old standby stays on the market a few more years , One of my favorites was discontinuted a little Torp. from Tabacalera Tropical call Factory Direct, the same blend is still being produced but the size is gone from the inventory , the big torp is still there along with the toro , Robusto & churchill, but I like that little Mini Torp, great for a quick smoke in the car when your stuck in traffic , lucky I have a few boxes stashed at the shop & will smoke them verrry judiciously. Back before the BIG cigar boom when cigar smokers were just that, & not a bunch of Upstart Yuppies doing it to be cool, I was getting a box of 10 Fuente Cannones for 27 bucks , that was my every day smoke 8.5 x 52 , under 3 bucks now they come in boxes of 20 & cost over 6 bucks a stick by the box & over 7 when you get singles , dammmmm Yuppies hahahahah , Now starbucks is upping the price of a cup of coffee, it seams that they are spending more per year on health care for the employees than they do on coffee beans , dammmmm thats just not right ! , But the only thing that will come of it is MORE GOVERNMENT REGULATIONS & guess who gets to pay for them, YEP look in the mirror its YOU & Its ME . stuck holding the bag again !, I dont know why we dont just do away with congress & let the Mafia take over , THEY will show a profit !!!, or some one will be looking for a new pair of cement shoes hahahaha .

time to put on the chops & have a cigar & more coffee, have a great Sunday ! Enjoy, Vince

it is 11:35 PM, I just got my pass word reset, so I am late posting this one, But I did compose it this morning , so I guess it is a Sunday morning Posting hahahaha

Well, we've reached A morning, that's for sure, Sunday, Monday, Does Anybody Really Know What Time It Is? :cryinlaugh:

I don't know how I got in to the site, don't know how long I'll be able to stick around. As we all know, my computer has issu--, errrr----, Windows ME, yeah, that's how you spell "issues."

Anyway, I'm glad to see things are progressing with Vince, and I love to hate the stories he tells about how things were before the boom. Unfortunately for my wallet, I got in to cigar smoking at the height of the boom, but not because I was a yuppie or wanted to look cool or anything. I'd had a lifelong curiosity about it, and finally tried it. I stuck with it and ended up meeting people like Vince and DocBarry, Michaelsean and lots of others, great people, horizon expanders and life enhancers all the way.

I've also smoked a few cigars, although not nearly as many as Vince and DocBarry. They've smoked more cigars in one week than I've smoked in ten years.

:cryinlaugh: :rotflmao: :pumpkin: :cryinlaugh:

Vince, keep us posted about the doings at the shop. Sounds very exciting. Maybe you could set up a little radio station in a back room, get an FCC license and reprise your old show. That would be cool. We'd all call in at once and crash the switchboard. :cryinlaugh:

Ahhhhh, if only prices were at the level that smokers like Vince knew just 15 short years ago. Amazing how the word BOOM!!! always seems to impact your wallet more than culture itself.

:rotflmao: :pumpkin: :pumpkin: :cryinlaugh:  :rotflmao: :pumpkin: :cryinlaugh:

Good Morining gentlemen - great post as usuall there Vince, and a good podcast once again too. I am guessing the site being down was why it was soo quiet yesterday then? Thats okay, I really didn't have to much to say anyway.

But about pricing - I was watching a video about cigars today, and he was talking about the real cigar boom in the late 1800's in the USA. One out of four men smoked cigars at that time and a really good cigar cost 1 or 2 dollars. I do not know how to convert that to todays wages, but I am thinking 8 bucks for a great stick like a Chateau Fuente isn't such a bad thing after all considering how much more disposable income we have today.

Anyway, it has been a great time for weather so far in Sakatchewan (say that four times real fast ) and I look forward to lots more cigar time before winter sets in! Have a great week!

Gordon

Let's see, late 1800's. There are rough formulas to figure out things like that. I will say this, that between 1966 and 1996, the price of three very familiar items to a Noo Yawker's life multiplied tenfold. They are:

(a) a slice of pizza went from 15 cents a slice citywide, to an average of about $1.50;
(b) the price of The Daily News, often looked upon and later billed as New York's Hometown Paper, went from 5 cents to 50 cents;
(c) the price of a subway ride went from 15 cents to $1.50.

Prior to the 60's however, prices, that is, inflation in this country, proceeded at a much slower rate overall, although there had been prior periods where it skyrocketed.

Speaking STRICTLY from an approximating supposition, I would say that the correlation, or the multiplication factor, from the late 1800's to now should be about 30-40. Therefore, if a top quality cigar actually cost $1-2 back then, the same cigar would theoretically cost $30-80 today, not entirely out of the realm as to where the cost is today.

Another thing we can look at to display how prices really are in keeping with "where they should be" is the price of gasoline. I'm not trying to be a wise ass or start any political thing here, but if you go back to 1973, and look at the price of gas then, and the price of gas even at its all-time high a month or two ago, it's really right where it should be.

With my west coast craving for NY pizza as bad as it is, I'd probably put a few places out of business if it were still 15 cents a slice

I know it’s not Sunday, but it’s my “Sunday” since yesterday and today are my weekend. So far I spent my off days pulling weeds from the garden, replacing some herbs, repotting plants, maintaining my massive oregano and chocolate mint patches, and trying to figure out how to get rid of the possum that’s been hanging around my yard for a while. But I’m not complaining, I’m relaxed.

This past week at work was busy the way I like it, but we lost a couple of people so there’s been extra work to do. Especially last Sunday when we had a jazz concert, bridal shower, wedding, corporate banquet, and normal lunch and dinner service. Not to mention the owners flying in by chopper for the concert. It was organized chaos and it was awesome! Not since running track and playing soccer have I felt so physically drained.
But the feeling you get at the end of the night when all the orders are in and it’s time to clean up makes it all worth it
…that and the bridal showers

AHHH yes Bridal showers, a bunch of young horney ladys all looking for MR.GoodBar, if you have a good job, & are reasonable cute & dont smell like last months sox's you might have a shot ! dammmmm I miss those days ! hahahahahaha
Enjoy, Vince

Uhhhhhhh, Axe, hello, paging The God of The Axe, come in, come in.

Uhhhhhh, not that I've ever partaken, but about that possum, didn't you just graduate from chef's school? I know some people, usually Southern folk, who could tell you what to do with it. Y'know, you've got that oregano patch, just graduated from chef school, . . .

1 Oct. 06 Good morning !!
well summer is over & I have offically started my Autumn program getting ready for winter, Saturday morning I woke up to a COLD house the furnace was off so I called the repair man & just under 300 bucks I have heat ! , Barb acted like it was my fault the furnace broke, I guess it is my fault , I didnt call for the fall tune up last week like she told me to do, had I done what I was told to do this would have never happened ! hahahahaha You just gotta love the logic !
it was rainy wet & cold here all day , things did not go right from the get go , we had to go to the Jr.High scoccor field to watch the #2 grandson play , so we sat in the rain with all the other parernts & grandparents to watch a game I have no idea how to play , other than you kick the ball & only the goalie is allowed to use his hands , But it is a fun time for the kids .
todays Menu is the OLD stand by Beef Pot roast, , since it is cold & damp out , firing up the oven will be just great. !!
We have been drinking a great Mexican Margoheppie coffee this week, a citrus undertone & a nice sparkle to the taste .
I will be heading to the Qtr.Deck soon with a Big mug of Kona & a Fonseca 898, & a new Al Hurt CD ( new to me anyway )
the NEW SHOP IS OPEN !!! King Beaver cigars is up & running , 1106 Penna Ave Monaca Pa , the phone will be in MONDAY !!!!! ,
I will post the number when I get it !

Not much else going on , other than the smoking ban for Alleghney county is going to fall apart like a wet swisher sweet, , the city of Pittsburgh can pass a smoking ban but not the county , some thing in the state consitution , saying counts have no standing in air quality or some other BS, what ever I dont care, I am in Beaver County , just 25 miles form Down town, Come here to smoke & enjoy life as you want to !

Time for me to get more coffee & get rid of the old coffee, so you all have a great Sunday . Enjoy, Vince

How's it goin', Vince. Congratulations on opening the Beaver. I mean King Beaver CIGARS!!!. :duh: :help:

Or is it Beaver Cleaver cigars? Anyway, I'll tell you what to do about that furnace. Here's what you tell the wife. The furnace was Bush's fault. C'mon, it's easy to prove all the things that are his fault, you should have NO problem convincing her of this one. You're creative.

You can never go wrong with playing Al Hirt music, either. I was listening to him play "Java" on the radio about 40 years ago. Now you're telling me there's a NEW Al Hirt CD. :eek:mg: :eek:mg:

Anyway, I did mention the word creative. You're creative. Go back to the previous page. Axegod75 needs a recipe for possum. :dunno:

Congrats on the new store Vince. Good luck bro. As for the smoking ban, I don't get it. We have one starting here in the little town I live in that goes into effect Nov.1. What BS. I am not one to whin and cry, but I want to know what happened to my bill of rights. I'm a grown ass man dog, I should have the right to pursue happiness.
I smoked myself a vintage 99 Graycliff with the old standby Maxwell House coffee. I was celabrating last night, I took my oldest daughter and my youngest one, the son, to see a Roger Waters show. You know him, he's Pink. The heart and soul of Pink Floyd. What a show. He's heading west for the last leg of this tour. They play Dark Side Of The Mooon, from heart beat to heart beat. So if you get a chance go see this show, you won't be dissapointed! The kid's were telling me, Pop's we thought you were an ol' fuddy duddy listening to this when we were growing up. Thanks dad, what a great show. Let me go to an old commercial here,
Ticket's 97.50 times 3,,,,,
Tee Shirts 35.00 each times 3,,,,,,,,
Beer's and Margarita's 7.00 each times I don't know how many,,,
Thanks dad, what a geat show,,,,,,,PRICELESS!!!!!
You get the picture. Time for some football. GO BROWNS!!!!!
Good luck again Vince.

Ah Pink Floyd!!! :wine: :cheerschug:  :cheerschug:  :birthday:

How fortunate there are some old fogies around who remember when some of the greatest music ever played was actually happening. And it's nice that some of the older fogies who actually made it happen are still doing so.

Pb, as for your Bill of Rights, since I am The Resident Chicken Little, I'll give you one of my stock in trade lines, which I also just put in a post over on General Discussion, . . .

we're dead.  :banghead: :help:

im a huge fan of floyd.

and you dont have to ba an "old fogie" to know what greatness is.
my music colection is about 70% "old" stuff. and by "old" i mean "before i was born" Floyd, zeppelin, BB King, the who...

the list is endless.

oh yea... i was born in 1980. i hope i didnt make some of you "old fogies" feel your age.

:cryinlaugh: :cryinlaugh: :cryinlaugh:

Actually, I've become aware that there are plenty of you youngsters half my age who are carrying on the tradition, which is a very pleasant surprise, to know that somehow, some way, Led Zeppelin, Pink Floyd and Co. have new fans in each generation.

Pink Floyd was my first concert and still my best. I was about fifteen and went with my dad and one of his friends during their "Pulse" tour. It was amazing, though I think they had to air out the Superdome for a couple of days afterwards. It was "smoky" to say the least.
And you're right, Kuzi about age. I've only got a couple of years on you myself.
