With my wonderful rich cup of coffee, I enjoyed an Ashton Aged Maduro. I only have 3 more that have been in my Humi for over a year. My next is going to be a Padilla Miami, then a Rp Sungrown. The rain is fallin and football is on the tube........I'll try to make the best of it

It is Sunday Dec 17 2006, One week till the celebration of the Birth Of Our Lord . , I have been very busy at the shop all week, we had our Christmas party Friday evening & it was a GREAT TIME , Lots of Beer was drank, a lot of food was eaten & a lot of wine & distilled spirits were consumed , a good time was had by all! , I Even ate a slice of the Dreaded Fruit cake , but since it had been soaked with RUM , Brandy & Bourbon I felt it was safe to eat hahahahaha ! The weight is holding at 219 , up 4 pounds from my low of 215 & a FAR cry from the 417 I was just a little less than 3 years ago , down from a Tight 62 waist to a loose 40 , but the 38 is just a little tight yet , maybe in the spring hahahaha
I was able to meet 2 Putts last night & his friend Sue , a few cold beers & a shot of scotch I had to get home to the wife & grandsons , Maybe I will be able to get back with him at the shop this noon . I will do my best to get there on time today , yesterday I was about 7 minuet's late opening the doors & there were 2 cars waiting in front for me when I pulled up. , hey I was there in plenty of time but the dammmmm bank drive up window was closed & I had to park & go inside, that took a lot longer than I thought it would , so by the time I got back to the shop it was after 12 Noon , we were set up & did a POD CAST , you can listen to it by going to http://www.Burghherfers.com & clicking the link for the pod cast , & dont forget to vote for the cigar Rumble in the bundle .
since I have been "working" long hours I haven't been cooking a lot at home this past month , but the take out business is Boooooming in Monaca Pa & any place else I stop on the way home from work ! , not that I get a lot it is just every day ! , I had a GREAT chicken cacciatore, from Pacendros & a nice light chicken salad in a tomato bread wrap from the Blue Violet Coffee shop, but today I will cook some thing here , looks like a standard Sunday with a Hunk of BEEF , even if I dont eat a lot I still love the flavor of a hunk of beef , I do like chicken, pork , VEAL,duck, turkey, Lamb, & I love sea food , but I must say that a big old well aged , & well cooked hunk of TEXAS LONGHORN , Tenderloin cooked to about 135/140 F internal temp is as good as it gets ! , a side of BBQ red beans , a baked spud , some greens with a little garlic oil & a slice of Fruit pie, HEAVEN !!!!!!!, wash it down with a pot of Coffee & a single malt , a splash of Port a slice of HEAVEN on Earth

A few line above I mentioned "working" well it isnt work if you enjoy doing what your doing , where else can you Drink single malt scotch & smoke Fine cigars & get paid for doing it ! dammmm this is almost as good as being back on the radio, But I had to watch out for the 7 words you are not to say on the air , wasn't allowed to consume scotch when I was on the air & I want permitted to light up in the studio , but I could have one in my hand & chew on it from time to time !!!!!

I havent been spending much time in the Qtr.Deck this past few weeks , the weather has been WONDERFULL, up in the 60's douring the day & with all the hours I have been putting in & just sit with the wife & BS a little before I drag my sorry ass to bed at midnight & back up at 8 AM, I do miss my 6 am get up & Don Carlos #3 But this OLD body is TIRED , so this morning I will be headed out for a weeeeee dram , a pot of Kona ( right now I have a pot of Christmas blend, but a little on the sweet side for me )

I wish I had more to share with you all this fine Sunday morning but I am headed out to the Qtr.Deck right now, & will be heading to the shop about 11:30 this morning to open up for the Steelers at 1 , put on the coffee at the shop , add ice to the beer tub & clean up the mess from last night before I open the doors for today, Time for NEW HIRED HELP , any one want a part time job !????? !! hahahaha Enjoy, Vince

No matter what he's doing, Vince has the best job anyone can find.

LIFE!!! It's worth experiencing, and few experience it quite as much as Vince.

 :sm_angel:

Vince,

Enjoyed meeting you at Brews Tavern. Thanks for the beer and cigars. Too bad we couldn't make it to the Q-deck or the shop. Will certainly try again next trip.

John

Wish I could have met up with you guys - I was out of town all day Saturday and at three separte fire calls on Sunday.

Next time you're in town, I'll see if I can't meet up then!

Side note - what ever happened to Cian?

We'd like to know. Cian was one of the most interesting reads I've ever seen anywhere, not just on the internet. I hope he is well, wherever he is, and that The Lord is blessing him and his household.

I miss the storys about his DOG !!!!!

MERRY CHRISTMAS , it is Sunday , 24 December 2006 , Christmas Eve morning , I dont know about you guys but I am Pumped about Tomorrows , I have the ham ready to go in the oven , I have all but one of the gifts ready to go , the drinks are ready the cigars are sleeping in a 70F , 70% humidity & I am ready for old saint nick to visit tonight , Christmas is for the children, & if you haven't figured out that I am just a BIG KID at heart you haven't been reading my posts to long hahahaha , my birth certificate is old & yellow, cracking on the edges, ( clay tablets have that problem hahahaha ) but I am still just a kid at heart, my Daughter never had a father she had a playmate, so do my Grandsons now , nothing I enjoyed more was getting out in the yard with the tonka trucks when they were little , now they are into computer games & that BS, but I still like to get on the floor & play with the trucks & the Hot wheels & they "indulged " me & did get some of the old toys out last time I was "baby sitting " hahahaha , yea like I am a responsible adult hahahaha My daughter has a lot of Faith in her 2 boys to watch out for me , more than me watch out for them !!!!
I guess thats what Grandfathers are for !!!

The shop has been BUSY all month, & I hope it stays that way after the New year, I know Jan & Feb are slow in the retail sector But I hope we will continue to grow , I am sure the New year will bring a few old customers back as soon as the pesky new years resolution to stop smoking is broken & they dont give up cigars for Lent ( for you non Catholic smokers , ask some one else , I have no idea what that is all about ) , I always give up the same thing every Lent , Fresh strawberry's !hahahaha
I slept in this morning & I haven't had a cigar as yet , but I needed to get this posted before noon as we are Picking up my Mother in law at the elder care home for the day & going to my sister in laws for the day , (OH JOY, Joy, Joy, ) maybe I can sneak out for the few hours to the shop at 1 to watch the Steelers on the big screen, not that I am a football fan , far from it, But I would rather watch the Football & smoke a cigar than sit in my sister in laws living room & listen to the " dysfunctional family problems "

DONT LAUGH , YOU ALL KNOW WHAT I AM TALKING ABOUT !!!!

My wife is just getting out of the shower, Hey maybe I can get an Early Christmas Present hahahaha

have a Great Christmas HO HO HO HO HO HO
and dont forget Christmas is about the Birth of Christ , not Santa
Enjoy, Vince

Merry Christmas everyone! I still have to wrap up the wife's presents and buy a couple of bottles of wine for tonight but that is about it. Looking forward to celebrating the night of seven fishes like we do every christmas eve, even though we usually do not make it to seven different types of fish dishes. Then after I get home and the kids are in bed I am going to have my first stick in a month, an opus I have had my eye on for a while. I hope everyone has a merry christmas and I 'll talk to you next week.

-Dave

Hey Vince, whaddaya mean clay tablets? I thought God carved your birth certificate into a rock with his fiery finger. :dunno: :bolt:

You might be right, this might be a "Copy" hahaha
MERRY CHRISTMAS
Enjoy, Vince

Goooooood Morning , it is Sunday 31 Dec. 06 , yep New Years Eve , looks like we made it through an other year together , so I would love to offer a little parting words of the year , I haven't thought anything out & like always I never do , so here is my last shot of the year !!

I spent the last week or so working at the shop every day , but playing with the grandsons as often as I could , geee I was lucky enough that they stayed here for 2 days & I was able to see them a little more than normal, Christmas through a child's eyes is better than I can imagine!
I did get to spend some time in the kitchen , I did a ham this year since we still have some frozen turkey I didn't want to make an other one , some baked mashed & candied yams ( yes it is all the same dish, , you bake them ,mash them then add the sweet stuff , yummy ! )
my mother in law was here for a day, we picked her up at the nursing home & she was glad to see us , who ever we were !, she has Lattimer's & has no idea who some people are, she knows who the Great grandsons are but has no idea who there mother , her grand daughter is , you show her a photo of Kendra when she was 4 or 5 she knows who that is but has no idea who she is as an adult . it is a sad way to end your life not knowing anything, , all of my wifes aunts went the same way , so I see it coming here for my wife in about 10 or 15 maybe 20 years , maybe we will get lucky & be spared the onset of Alzheimer's by a car crash or medical malpractice hahahahaha !, Not that I am in any hurry to get rid of her , dammmmm its been over 36 years we have been together , & as I always say 2 of the best years of my life, the first 2 years of our marriage, I was in the Navy & was shipped out & she was here ! ahhhh yes the good old days hahahahahaa
I plan on making ham & potato casserole today , & pork & Kraut tomorrow , got to have pork on new years day, as the PIG is always moving ahead with its head down & nose against the ground , digging for more to eat. , I might not need anything more to eat , but I am always going toward that elusive goal of what ever I am on this earth to do , in all my years I haven't figured out my place in the cosmos , maybe it was just to leave my seed for the next generation, or maybe I shaped some one life with out knowing I was a help to them. I guess I will get that answer some day . BUT I am in no hurry to find out .
I have been sipping a new single malt this past week, & it is some thing all you Bourbon lovers will like , it is a 16 Year old single malt from Glenlivet called Na'durra , it is made in a NEW oak cask not a used Bourbon cask & it has all the spice from the oak that a bourbon or rye have , I miss the subtitle oak from a Smokey single malt but I think all you bourbon fans might enjoy a little change of pace with this one,it is still all barley & lacks the sweetness of corn , but is a tad more spicy than a standard single malt bottled at Cask strength @114.4 proof , it is an asssssskicker . I dont think it will replace Lagavulin as my favorite 16 Year old single malt but some of you might like it .

the weather here has been STRANGE , we haven't had a full inch of snow yet, the temps are in the 50's be it low 50's but what what the hell it is better than the 24 inches plus Denver had all at one time ! in fact on Dec first we hit 70 F here in da Burgh , the bikes were out the convertible tops were down & I was sitting outside the shop with a cigar & coffee talking to everyone on the street in Monaca Pa , last year at this time we has snow up to our knees & my Buddy's Basset hound was making 5 tracks in the snow , hahahahaha , 7 if you count his ears hahahaha
I might need to cut the grass if this keeps up !!

I have been smoking a lot of rocky Patel's in the past week or so , the Fusion & the signature we added this week to my humidor & both were great smokes , but as far as my morning smoke of a Don Carlos #3 well it will take a mighty fine stick to replace it, I was enjoying the Nacarro Robusto for a few weeks till my stock of DC#3 was dug out of the bottom of a humidor I put then in for some long term storage & just didn't feel like digging through a few humidors to find them, dammmm that is a problem with so dammm many humidors , looks like I need to build a walk in here at home & get rid of the clutter, But that will be a long time coming , to many projects on the to do list in front of it , like replacing the faucet in the kitchen, been wanting to do that for about a year or so, I havent got the new one yet Barb & I cant agree on the style or the finish , so I told her just go & get what you want & I will get it installed, so as I see it the ball is in her coart, & I cant do anything till she picks out the one she wants !

Since old Angus McStudd was sold the field next to me has been some what empty of new baby angus beef, how ever I have been noticing a redish brown & white herd starting to build, they are beef cattle & not milkers , they seam a bit more gentile than the angus were , But very horney , I do see a lot of young studs in the field trying to strut thier stuff . No sign of the replacement for OLE ANGUS , dammm I miss his exploits & bellowing , hahahahaha , speaking of Exploits , I want to find out what happened to Cian & his trusty first mate , who is up for a trip to the V.I. & look for him ??? dammm it should be a warm or maybe HOT day , looking in the harbors for a golden retirver first mate & cigar chomping capt.
Whos in for a road trip hahahahaha !

there were a few untimely passings this year , James Brown heads the list for me , as for the former leader of Iraq , well I have mixed thoughts on how that was handled , I am not a Laywer ( thank God, I would/ wouldnt feel sorry for the person I was defending ) ) , thats just a flaw in my thinking , I guess that why I went into the culinary arts & not law or medicine , dammm had I gone to law school & medical school I could have sued my self for malpractice hahahahaha
Gerald Ford , a Football playing jock who became President of the United States, just shows what an adopted child can do is it in the genes or the enviroment we are raised in ? James Brown was a poor child shining shoes in front of a radio station, & in a few dozen years he Owned the station !!! genes or enviorment?
that is the Question I will leave you to ponder this last day of 2006, Time for a Sunday morning Smoke ! Enjoy, Vince

Happy New Year

Fantastic ramblings again Vince. I wish you and your family all the best in this new year to come! Happy New Year everyone!!

God bless you Vince. Thanks again for a wonderful leadoff to the Sunday Smoke thread, but I take issue with this part:

". . . so here is my last shot of the year !!"

Your last shot of the year is going to come at 2359 hours an' ya KNOW that!!! :cryinlaugh: :wine: :sm_angel:

you are so right as always , I had in mind not to post any more this year , but as fate will have it , here I am again ! dammmm , well I havent had a "shot " yet tonight, YET is the opertive word here, Yet, I have a snifter all warmed up with a nice dram of 16 year old Laugavulin ready to pour into it , I smoked a fine Rocky Patel Signature & an Ashton Dbl.Corona this afternoon watching the Steelers bumble there way to an 8 & 8 season, , I dont think I will have any more smokes today , But I plan on a DON CARLOS #3 early in the morning , I had planned to go swimming with the polor bear club in the river , But I am going to go to work instead, dammmmm I will miss my morning swim this new year !, Oh well I am getting a bit old for it anyway, right now I am heading to the living room to watch Garison Kealer of Lake Woebegone fame bring in the new year from the Grand Ole Opery ! Enjoy, & a Healthy & prosperous New year to you all !
Vince

Have a great one, Vince. Check out Special Ed's thread on General Discussion if you would. I have a funny feeling you'd have the answer to that.

Yes indeed, the Steelers. Not a great year for Saddam Hussein, Abu Musab Al Zarqawi or Westminster Abbey, The Tower O' Big Ben & Co.
