Goooooood Morning , it is Sunday 31 Dec. 06 , yep New Years Eve , looks like we made it through an other year together , so I would love to offer a little parting words of the year , I haven't thought anything out & like always I never do , so here is my last shot of the year !!
I spent the last week or so working at the shop every day , but playing with the grandsons as often as I could , geee I was lucky enough that they stayed here for 2 days & I was able to see them a little more than normal, Christmas through a child's eyes is better than I can imagine!
I did get to spend some time in the kitchen , I did a ham this year since we still have some frozen turkey I didn't want to make an other one , some baked mashed & candied yams ( yes it is all the same dish, , you bake them ,mash them then add the sweet stuff , yummy ! )
my mother in law was here for a day, we picked her up at the nursing home & she was glad to see us , who ever we were !, she has Lattimer's & has no idea who some people are, she knows who the Great grandsons are but has no idea who there mother , her grand daughter is , you show her a photo of Kendra when she was 4 or 5 she knows who that is but has no idea who she is as an adult . it is a sad way to end your life not knowing anything, , all of my wifes aunts went the same way , so I see it coming here for my wife in about 10 or 15 maybe 20 years , maybe we will get lucky & be spared the onset of Alzheimer's by a car crash or medical malpractice hahahahaha !, Not that I am in any hurry to get rid of her , dammmmm its been over 36 years we have been together , & as I always say 2 of the best years of my life, the first 2 years of our marriage, I was in the Navy & was shipped out & she was here ! ahhhh yes the good old days hahahahahaa
I plan on making ham & potato casserole today , & pork & Kraut tomorrow , got to have pork on new years day, as the PIG is always moving ahead with its head down & nose against the ground , digging for more to eat. , I might not need anything more to eat , but I am always going toward that elusive goal of what ever I am on this earth to do , in all my years I haven't figured out my place in the cosmos , maybe it was just to leave my seed for the next generation, or maybe I shaped some one life with out knowing I was a help to them. I guess I will get that answer some day . BUT I am in no hurry to find out .
I have been sipping a new single malt this past week, & it is some thing all you Bourbon lovers will like , it is a 16 Year old single malt from Glenlivet called Na'durra , it is made in a NEW oak cask not a used Bourbon cask & it has all the spice from the oak that a bourbon or rye have , I miss the subtitle oak from a Smokey single malt but I think all you bourbon fans might enjoy a little change of pace with this one,it is still all barley & lacks the sweetness of corn , but is a tad more spicy than a standard single malt bottled at Cask strength @114.4 proof , it is an asssssskicker . I dont think it will replace Lagavulin as my favorite 16 Year old single malt but some of you might like it .
the weather here has been STRANGE , we haven't had a full inch of snow yet, the temps are in the 50's be it low 50's but what what the hell it is better than the 24 inches plus Denver had all at one time ! in fact on Dec first we hit 70 F here in da Burgh , the bikes were out the convertible tops were down & I was sitting outside the shop with a cigar & coffee talking to everyone on the street in Monaca Pa , last year at this time we has snow up to our knees & my Buddy's Basset hound was making 5 tracks in the snow , hahahahaha , 7 if you count his ears hahahaha
I might need to cut the grass if this keeps up !!
I have been smoking a lot of rocky Patel's in the past week or so , the Fusion & the signature we added this week to my humidor & both were great smokes , but as far as my morning smoke of a Don Carlos #3 well it will take a mighty fine stick to replace it, I was enjoying the Nacarro Robusto for a few weeks till my stock of DC#3 was dug out of the bottom of a humidor I put then in for some long term storage & just didn't feel like digging through a few humidors to find them, dammmm that is a problem with so dammm many humidors , looks like I need to build a walk in here at home & get rid of the clutter, But that will be a long time coming , to many projects on the to do list in front of it , like replacing the faucet in the kitchen, been wanting to do that for about a year or so, I havent got the new one yet Barb & I cant agree on the style or the finish , so I told her just go & get what you want & I will get it installed, so as I see it the ball is in her coart, & I cant do anything till she picks out the one she wants !
Since old Angus McStudd was sold the field next to me has been some what empty of new baby angus beef, how ever I have been noticing a redish brown & white herd starting to build, they are beef cattle & not milkers , they seam a bit more gentile than the angus were , But very horney , I do see a lot of young studs in the field trying to strut thier stuff . No sign of the replacement for OLE ANGUS , dammm I miss his exploits & bellowing , hahahahaha , speaking of Exploits , I want to find out what happened to Cian & his trusty first mate , who is up for a trip to the V.I. & look for him ??? dammm it should be a warm or maybe HOT day , looking in the harbors for a golden retirver first mate & cigar chomping capt.
Whos in for a road trip hahahahaha !
there were a few untimely passings this year , James Brown heads the list for me , as for the former leader of Iraq , well I have mixed thoughts on how that was handled , I am not a Laywer ( thank God, I would/ wouldnt feel sorry for the person I was defending ) ) , thats just a flaw in my thinking , I guess that why I went into the culinary arts & not law or medicine , dammm had I gone to law school & medical school I could have sued my self for malpractice hahahahaha
Gerald Ford , a Football playing jock who became President of the United States, just shows what an adopted child can do is it in the genes or the enviroment we are raised in ? James Brown was a poor child shining shoes in front of a radio station, & in a few dozen years he Owned the station !!! genes or enviorment?
that is the Question I will leave you to ponder this last day of 2006, Time for a Sunday morning Smoke ! Enjoy, Vince
Happy New Year
