I know. That business of his radio shtick after his father in law died really brought me up. Funny stuff. No matter how sick I am, I laughed good at that stuff.

Cloudy, I lived in Clio Mich for a short time back in the late 60 's worked in Frankenmouth , a Big FLAT area of No hills , dammmmm boring landscape, I love the hills & valleys of W.Pa , I also lived ( if you can call it living In Cleveland , the mistake on the lake , dammmmmmm I am getting my self into a hole here thios morning, I guess I havent had enough coffee yet !
Bloof, we will hook up some day & you never know when some former fat guy just might knock on your door ! Enjoy, Vince

Well Good morning to all the readers posters & lurkers here at Am back & related forums, it has been a very Quiet week here at the Qtr.Deck, not a lot happening the weather has been GLORIOUS, the cigars are smoking just fine & the coffee has been tasting great, we did have a Camacho event at the shop Thursday night & a few of the local Camacho whores showed up , & I was able to enjoy the evening & we killed a bottle of Spayburn & put the hurt on a Carol Ida , I took Friday off & went to my nephews HS graduation , I broke out a box of cigars that I bought when he started first grade, shared them with him & his father , I have done this with all my nephews , I am the only one in the family with a daughter so there are lots of boys , all but 2 are cigar smopkers today, dammmm I wonder how that happened !!?????
& the 2 who dont smoke cigars are my only Brothers sons & both think tobacco is bad for you, but my brother is a cigar smoker & his wife is a cigerette smoker amoung other things hahahaha , but the other 4 are all Brothers of the leaf !,
I am NOT cooking today , I am taking the day off , today is my grandsons dance review so I will be spending the day at the high school & watching a Bunch of young kids dance , dammmmm to nice a day to be inside watching a few hundred kids dance in an auditorium that is NOT equipped with A/C!, I plan on going in & out a good deal of the day looking for some shade in front of the school, & a bench to sit on with a cup of coffee & a cigar, I am not taking a flask to the school, I havent done that in a long time hahaha .
well no food , No excitement to tell you about, no outlandish drinks or off the wall coffees & nothing exciting as far as Cigars go , so that about it for this week, who knows maybe something will happen & I will get back to you all asap !

NOW Get out & enjoy the sunshine !!

Summer has finally come to the frozen north. My father in law died on Friday, he was 87 last week he asked my wife how old he was and when she said 87 his response was “holy fu*%”. We have had tons of relatives at the house and a lot of them smoke cigars so it has been a good few days of smoking and drinking on the deck and having lots of laughs at “Dad’s” one liners and a few tears as well. I wish I could last as long as he did and still have a sense of humour and remain happy until the end. Vince everyone read your Sunday morning article and we all agree you are one fine gentleman. I look forward someday to meeting you and having a cigar on the quarter deck (I think it will be a special cigar).

Not sure how I missed this one the first time, Don, but I am sorry for your loss. Sounds like he was a great man.

Getting ready to watch The Prefontaine Classic, a big track and field event with international implications, held every year to commemorate the death of one of our great distance runners of the past, Steve Prefontaine. There might be a cigar, and then again, there might not, but it will be a good day, that's for sure. All of you have one as well, a good day that is, especially Vince.

A great track meet and a great cigar. I chose the last of the Ghurka Symphony Churchills that Michaelsean sent me a while back. This one lasted from 1624 hours to 1821 hours. I believe I may have had this one for two and a half years, and it could have stood quite a bit more aging. Definitely a robust, flavorful smoke with a kick that, despite it's cost, would be worthy of anyone giving a try.

NEW news for Sunday

I almost forgot today was the dance review for my grandson & daughter, what a pair they made on stage, he was in 3 other numbers , played Sir Elton John in one complete with glasses & a feather boa , the piano was just a prop, but he did get to lift a few of the girls on & off the piano when they were dancing, he was also in a number with the same group of girls doing a Jazz number & a classic balet number , but the dammmmm show was 4 hours long, way to many acts , & they were the next to last act when he danced with his mother , dammmm she still has it, but now there is a LOT more of her to dance hahahaha , when she was 16 & dancing the Nutcracker she was about 103 pounds , Now well lets just say Dolly Parton aint got nothing on her, But her behind has caught up to her chest, yea I know thats not a very nice thing to say about your own daughter , but I said it to her face & she agreed it was a lot easyer "40" pounds ago, she was panting like a race horse when they were done, her arthritus has slowed her down a great deal but that SPARK is still there , even at the ripe old age of 35 she can out dance some the the Sr. High girls that were in the show, no brag just fact, lets face it she was classicly trained & did it professionaly till the arthritus stopped her, , I used to tease her about being the next fred Astair, & she would tell me she was the next ginger rogers, she did the same dance as fred did but she did it backwards & in high heals ! , well there is the update & its time for me to go to bed ,

Enjoy, Vince (AKA ~ the OLDFART)

Good morning to all you Fathers , Grandfathers & All others out there in Cigar land it is 17 June 07 & it is the made up holiday ( just to sell more greating cards ) its fathers day, well can any of you tell me WHEN fathers day is, simple, 9 months BEFORE mothers day hahaha , I was suprised at breakfast this morning woth a great gift pack of Cigars from my wife , ( nothing from the daughter as yet ) 3 Emerald torps from La Aurora ,3 GrandCuvee,& 3 Leon Jemmies Coronas, , I think I will be firing up an emerald this morning as soon as I get off the computer , I made a Pot of Pappa New Geny thius morning , I was wanting some thing a Bit BOLDER than the usuall Sunday morning Kona , Disapointing to say the lest , thin & no body to it , but rather than Dump the pot I am drinking it , but I think this will be the last cup & I will make a pot of Columbian or mayby a pot of Brizillian Santos.
Well Bloofy old boy I broke down & got a bottle of BOURBON & a KY. made & bottled Heaven Hill , I just cant justify the price of Bookers or Blantons since I will be drinking Scotch & I do have a taste for Old Grandad 100 Proof the store didnt have any on the shelf & the 20 YO Pappy van Winkel was way to much , the only size of Knob creek was the HUGE SOB & over 50 bucks so it stayed on the shelf, not much of a selection , I should have went to a second shop , BUT It had the single malt Islay I wanted to try, so I just settled for what ever else they had , I have tryed to drink Bourbon many times but I miss the smoke & iodine of scotch , had I been raised drinking Old Grandad instead of Haig & Haig Pinch Bottle I might have had a different set of taste buds this late in life . Not that I am OLD hahahaha
We went for our Saturday night Cigar ride last night I I had a Prodomo Fresco robusto, we got a late start , had to run to the store for things for her mother so I just grabbed a robusto for the ride & it was a fine smoke , we ended up In East Liverpool Ohio for some reason, & ended up right in the middle of the towns Fireworks display , they were having some kind of celebration & had all the downtown streets blocked off & all kinds of games , Rides & food booths all over the place , well we got out of the traffic 7 headed home but we did stop at TIM HORTONS for a dounut , I was Not impressed good but no Crispy Cream !!!!
Now dont get you pantys in a knot it was almost 10PM & they were getting ready to close , the donuts were not as fresh as they could have been so I will reserve judgement till I get there early in the morning & have a HOT fresh one with a cup of coffee before I pass final judgement on MY taste buds reaction to the world famous Tim Horton Dounut , My first choice is & will always be Orams Dounuts , it is a ONE shop deal , family owned & has been in the same place as long as I can remember , the place is OLD & tired but the Dounuts , ahhhh yes the dounuts , I havent had one in a few months , I just cant eat them like I did before the by pass, BIG heavy filled with Custard & dipped in Chocolate frosting & stripped with a peanut butter drizzle , Dammmmm some times I wonder why I had the bypass & now I understand , way to many trips to Orams & places like it, to much time in the kitchen & not enough time outside cutting grass & staying Fit. dammmm it was FUN though ! hahaha
I will be making Veal today since it is Fathers day I making my wifes favorite meal , just maybe I will get what I want for fathers day hahahaha
We have had a KICK @$$ week at the shop lots of little kids with there mothers comming in for a Cigar for Daddy , & a few HOT mothers to boot dammmmmmmmmm , & there have been a Few NEW faces in the shop & at the Qtr.Deck this past week, some of the posters, Lurkers & hangers on have showed up for the Thursday Night at the QTR.DECK & the Friday night BYOB at the shop , this past Thursday we recored the Fathers day POD cast right from the QTR.DECK , you can listen to all the pod casts just go to http://www.Burghherfers.com & click on the link to the Blowen smoke pod cast or you can google blowen smoke podcast & sooner or later you will get there .
I did get a NEW set of Glasses this week, dammmm can I see so much better, since I have had the Surgery on the lft eye & my Visoin with the old glasses was 20/400 , now it is 20/70 , dammmm the road is Much clearer Now hahahaha & all this time I thought it was just the cigar smnoke clouding my sight !,

my wife just brought in a new pot of Coffee , ahhhhh Kenya AA , this calls for a Cigar hahahah, Have a great Fathers day to all you dads & all you guys practicing to be fathers , But remember anyone can father a child, it takes a real man to be a DADDY to the baby, But in My experence it is MUCH better being a grandfather , it is like having a new puppy, all the love with out the hassle of every day life , just spoil them & give them back to there mother, just like you mother & mother in law did with your kids !! Enjoy, Vince

Ahhhh yes, Vince, Kenya AA, NOW you're drinkin' coffee. I'm about to get things started with a fresh French Press of Java Estate myself. Yes folks, Bill O'Reilly dropped his boycott, and I have since followed suit and dropped mine, it's a French Press again. With the new president they just elected, they deserve to sell me a few wedges of brie again. Man, I miss that cheese, with Snyder's pretzels on the side.

Vince, which Heaven Hill bourbon did you get? Hope it was the ten year old, although the ten year old has since been renamed Mild and Mellow. What that tells you is that it isn't ten years old any more, hee, hee, heee!!!

As for cigars, I don't know. It may be a while. That El Cobre I had last night will last for quite a while, a vivid memory indeed. You've heard of a radio DJ puttin' on the hits? Well, last night I was puttin' on the spits during AND well after that cigar. As for today, some clerical work, and maybe a little more unpacking and throwing out, a fabulous track meet at 1600 hours, for those of you who have VS or OLN Channel, but I don't know if I want to see another cigar for a while, ha, ha, haaaa!!! Later on of course, I'll be calling Dad at his farm in Puerto Rico.

Vince, you went for a cigar drive and ended up in Ohio, huh? Talk about adventures!!! I've said it a thousand times, and I'll say it again. Where'd we be without Vince? I don't know, but if I don't get in the shower soon, my cat is going to sue me for smelling worse than a farm animal. Yeah, she's going to become MY keeper, ha, ha!!!

Have a great day every one, and remember, Safety First!!!

The bourbon is the Old time heaven hill no age statement on the bottle . ONE FULL LETER not a 5th ! , not a bad whiskey to mix but I dont like it straight up in a snifter, great for an old fashoned or a manhatten, maybe with some ice & a splash of water , but I realy miss the smokey peaty Iodine taste of a great scotch !

I almost forgot I did have a Trip Maduro from Camacho , a gift from Travis , I was worried that it would be a strong smoke & hard to keep lit but just the opsiite it was mellow & smooth, a great burn & it never went out on me , a Big diadema shapped SOB, with a wonderful ash & verrry slow burning, it lasted 10 minuts short of 3 Hours , Now that my friends is a fine smoke, a 2 dollor cigar with a 10 dollar band, it is beautyful, or was it a 10 dollar smoke with a 2 dollar band, what ever it was it was GREAT ! Enjoy, Vince

I had Friday off and spent the afternoon at King Beaver Cigars, watching Vince work. I want to say thanks again Vince. That is a great place! It was one of my best days off. I may have to play hookie more often.

After calling my Dad this morning, I lit up a Joya de Nicaragua Viajante. It is a mild cigar that is 8x50 or there abouts. Sipping coffee and smoking a cigar for almost two hours...... Paradise on Earth....

Enjoy the day all and now for the next cigar.....

Vince, any bourbon under $20 is ONLY good for mixing. The only sub-$20 bourbons I ever tasted that were good for sipping were Fighting Cock and Evan Williams 1783, the ORIGINAL TEN YEAR OLD!!! Hee, hee, heee!!!

thanks for the heads up, I will be looking for a smaller bottle of Knob the next time I am in the state run monopoly spirits shop.

Cyclist, sorry I wasnt able to stop & BS it was just a BUSY day, come back anythime !

I looked for Evan Williams the other day but they didn't have it at the grocery store. I'll have to check a few others as I'm out of Jack and after the post on how they diluted it w/o telling us, I wouldn't mind an alternative. (yea, right, like the price has absolutely NOTHING to do with it)

Winding down a very pleasant Fathers Day here in Pittsburgh. Great post Vince!

I started the day off with a phenomenal breakfast of steak and eggs - threw a dry rub on two strip steaks yesterday and let them chill out in the fridge over night. Topped up with a glass of extra pulp OJ and a large mug of Kenya AA, my morning started off right! Took a break from relaxing for a little woodworking in the garage and then back to doing nothing. Nothing that is, except for smoking a Boli PC and having a tumbler of Macallan - excellent combination!

Dinner was tasty - my wife made baked ziti. Have another pot of water boiling for another batch of coffee and I just finished sipping a small glass of Baileys.

Hope everyone had a great weekend!

other than that it has been some what quiet here in da burgh this past week , I did find my way to Alleghney Smoke Works in Blawnox yesterday & got to meet Don Pepin Garcia , smoked a few when I was there & had a great time , drank a few cups of coffee with the cigars & got to BS to a lot of old friends from the Blawnox area who were there for the day as well a good time was had by all!
I left there to head home as we were getting ready for a suprise 5th anniv. for my daughter & her husband , they had gone out for dinner at Ruth's Chris Steak house in da burgh & since the traditional gift is Wood for the 5th anniv. we had a Bonfire, & every one was supposed to bring a log for the fire , by the time they got home from da Burgh the party was in full swing, the Keg had been tapped & the fire was going & the police had been called by the old lady on the next street , & it wasnt even 9 PM yet , lucky for us the cop was a cigar smoker & with the bribe of a fine old Contraband Monte he said he would go over & have a talk with her, & we told him to invite her over with us but she refused , she needed to get to bed & some one offered to sing her to sleep which was also rejected, , funny how some people will vollinteer for some things with a quart or 2 of beer in the belly ! hahahaha
well it was a fun night & every one had a good time as far as I could tell !
I have some chicken breasts sitting in a dry rub right now , going on the grill later today, what is let over I will be making chicken salad with it , its just way to nice to cook inside today soi i plan on being on the deck most of the day , thats when I am not napping or "downloading" all the coffee hahahaha
well the Boss just told me I needed to get on the stick, under her bathroom sink there is a leak, looks like the hot water line is a bit loose at the connection, so that means I need to do some thing about it, well drop the wet towels in the dryer & call a plumber , BUT NO she wants me to fix it, , dammmmmmmm this is going to cost even more when the plumber has to Fix my repair ! hahahaha

The Bike finnaly got to the shop Saturday, it has been sitting since I dropped it a few weeks back ( in the drive way getting off of it ) , hay I never said I was graceful! well the windshield was broke & the pegs were twisted a bit & I was sore as H3LL , still a bit tender in the left shoulder, but my ego was hurt more than my body hahahah , well it is in the shop & I have no idea when I will be getting it back, they said they had a lot of work to do before they cold even look at mine, well thats life , maybe its time I went out & got a snowmobile suit for winter riding ! hahahaha
well the boss has a few more chores for me to get started on before I can cook, so I better get off the computer & on the stick, as there will be H3LL to pay if I dont, I hear doors slamming & tool box rattling , so if I want to get back here some time in the next year I better get off now & see what she is getting ready to take apart !

Enjoy, Vince ,
No rest in her soul no rest , dammmm Now I know why guys die before there wife, THEY WANT TO !
