What Did You Smoke Today

La Aroma De Cuba cetro. quite good. short. medium bodied. I was expecting more from it for some reason. im going to try another one but this time come at it with an open mind. maybe ill like it more.

i do love the band though. nice and wide.

I'm sorry to hear of your past loss. I commend you for reminiscing about him with a fine smoke, seems to be fitting for someone who must have been a good man. May he repose in ease.

Here's to your Dad, Colonel. I do the same for mine - I am sure you had great memories during that smoke.

Carlos Torano Gran Reserva last night, way too much of a cedar profile to this smoke, had a little hint of coffee but the cedar kind of overshadowed everything. I would definitely try one again but next time I will open the tube, remove the cedar and let it age that way.

Today, two CAO Braziia little cigars, one at lunch and one now, no real time for a regular size and these little guys work just fine. What to say about the taste? Damn this is a great smoke, unsure what I like better, this or the Partagas black. Both have their times and both are equally tasty in my opinion.

I like the La Aroma de Cuba's, nice medium smokes with more character than I expect from a medium, I'd buy a box of those for sure.

Colonel, thats a great way to remember a relative. Is that a hobby the two of you shared or just your special way of remembrance?

Had a Padron 1964 Principe last night - I had it in my humi for about 9 months - what a GREAT smoke. Extremely flavorful and smooth throughout.

Had a 5 Vegas and it was awesome. It burned evenly and tasted great. .

I have one problem though, and maybe its just my newness to cigars, but, has anyone else ever experienced when you get to the end of a cigar about 1/4 left and the smoke is almost suffocating. I tried to resolve it by slowing down my puffs, but every now and again I would get blasted.

any suggestions out there?

Couldn't agree with you more. I had a Principe this past Friday and it was awesome.

Had a Camacho Corojo Monarca Maduro tonight and it was excellent. Great construction, nice draw, lotsa smoke, very tasty. I'll definitely pick up a few more of these!

Al, you need to lighen up those puffs too when you get down to the nub, unless you have an asbestos mouth...

Yeah, and doesn't that always seem to be the best part too??

That is what I do - just slow things down as much as you can, and enjoy every puff.

I started the morning off with a Vegas Robaina Famoso - with a great cup of coffee. The creaminess of that stick made that a perfect combination. Smoked that sucker to the nub!!!!!

Later on I had a Oliva Maduro, which was good - normally I love this smoke but the timing was not so great since I had the Famoso first.

Montecristo Royale

Me and Uncle Ernie are hangin and smokin Montecristo Royales (tubed) and drinking rum punches. Life doesn't get any better. We took some photos and will be posting. I will be leaving for Orlando on Sunday and will be looking for cigar shops in the area. Any suggestions? It's my wife's birthday and we're celebrating in her honor tonight. These Montecristos are the bomb. Has anyone had these? We're getting ready to light up some CAOs. The corn roast plans are still in effect and its expanded to pork shoulder, coconut rice and possibly brats. Who else is interested? Go Tigers! Sorry for the ChiSox fans, but its not looking good for you or for the rest of MLB.

This isi Uncle Ernie posting for Tim. Our vacation plans are solid. Tim will be on his way to Aruba in November and I'll be in Mexico in late October. One day, we'll align our plans for Aruba. Nonetheless, the cigars will be flowing in each vacation spot. Meanwhile, Kenney Chesney plays in the background....

First looks at both the new Partagas Cifuentes and the Cohiba Black. Full details available on the blog. In summary I was not very impressed with the Cifuentes. The Cohiba was not quite my cup of tea but it scored very well. It was well made and expertly blended with a solid balance, complexity, and unique aroma. It will be a winner if you like a more robust maduro.

Nording Torpedo. Weird little cigar. Not oddly shaped or anything but it was like a torpedo that had been cut off at 4 inches or so. I figured it might be a nice short smoke.

Great construction with a nice swirl pattern. The wrapper was smooth and surprisingly oily. Nice prelight aroma. Once lit there was a little citrus taste. More acidic than citrusy, but kinda nice anyways. It put out some thick white smoke. The burn was good even though it was a little wet, unrested, and had just a wee bit of a tight draw. It had a little bit of grassiness torwards the end but not much. All in all a nice 40 minute mild-med smoke. I'll see how they do with a little rest but it was a good cigar for 4 bucks.

Smoked a RP Vintage 1990 Junior cigar after breakfast, don't know if I got a bad tin but two out of the first three of these things have been plugged, I have two more in the tin and hopefully those will actually burn.

Astral Cameroon Robusto after dinner. Not a bad smoke, construction and burn were absolutely flawless, the taste was good as well, some chocolate to it with a little hint of coffee, only problem was that it never prgressed from there, was the same exact taste from a half inch in until I let it go out. I have a few friends that turn their nose up at the mention of Astral cigars but this was decent, not worth the $5, if this was maybe a $2-$3 cigar I would buy more but as circumstances were, this was the only quality cigar I could get my hands on at a certain store that wasn't totally overpriced.

my womans dad came over last night. we had a nice steak on the grill with his Girlfriend. I wasnt feeling to well after dinner but he was interested in a cigar. So i gave him one of my recent favorites Camacho havana. i think this one was the corona size. As i was handing it to him i said "this is a full bodied cigar, i know you like a more mild to medium so if you would like something else I wont blame you." but he wanted to try it.

he didnt even make it 1/2 way through.

even though i didnt smoke that cigar i was enjoying the aroma. I think i gave him my last one so i am going out today to buy more.

Last night I sat out on the deck with a glass of tawny port and smoked a Hoyo De Monterrey Excalibur 1066 Dark Knight that I received from rmrdaddy in a pif. Since Rob only sends quality stuff in his pifs, I knew it was gonna be a great smoke and I wasn't disappointed.

I've really been enjoying the maduros a lot lately. I think I'm slipping over to the dark side!!!

Yesterday, with some nice Montecristo Havana Blend coffee - I had a RASS and a Cohiba Siglo I (thanks, buddy) - both were great smokes. It was an enjoyable day of paperwork!
