What Did You Smoke Today

Carduus, I felt the exact same way about the Tatuaje line. Nowadays those cigars are must haves for me. I am very glad I did not give up on them.

Gurkha Royal Brigade Perfecto tonight, very solid smoke. Speaking of Gurkha, anyone check the one day deal? Damn good price on a box of Expeditons. Too bad this weekend is my girls birthday.

I was very tempted to get that Gurkha deal but I already stocked up on 35 Gurkhas just a few weeks ago. It does have me wanting to order some singles though as I haven't tried that particular series out. I'm a big fan of the specials & samplers because the prices can't be beat. For example, I picked up a sampler of 20 Gurkhas for 40 bux which included the Grand Master line (Barber Poles). Today I was at the local B&M warehouse and they were going for about $5.50 apiece. This is the cheapest place in town for cigars that I've found and Phoenix is a big city. My net price was $2 each. A few of the others in the sampler go in the neighborhood of $6 each.

Don't get me wrong, I'm not cheap. Just thrifty

To keep on the subject, today after a spicy Mexican dinner (lots of good authentic Mexican food here) I lit up an RyJ Aniversario I just picked up. It was a very good cigar with a Sumatra Wrapper and Connecticut Broadleaf binder, but it wasn't able to stimulate my tastebuds after the full on nuclear assault I just put them through. Creamy, earthy, and a bit nutty but just didn't cut it for the ocassion. I couldn't detect much spice and it was a bit one dimensional. It would make a great smoke after a light lunch with a Starbuck's IMHO, or perhaps with a morning cup of Java. I will definitely be trying it again though. Wanting something with more
kick, I lit up a Corojo Label, one of the torpedos I traded some robustos for with Cloudy. Ah yes! That was exactly what the doctor ordered. The spiciness and fuller body matched perfectly with the after dinner Guiness (ok, the 2nd after dinner Guinness). This is a great cigar after a spicy Thai or Mexican meal from my experience. I'm now ready to retire for the evening with a full belly, a light beer buzz, and big :D on my face.

Have a good weekend everybody.

I have not tried that brand...

I guess I have work to do...

lets see here... its been a minute since i posted. been busy.

i had a brazilia the other day while workin on the neighbors car.
I had a Camacho Havanna after mowin the lawn on another day.
I had a punch gran puro a few days ago also.

i think thats it.

i wish it was more.

I'm smoking a Padilla Miami Robusto today. When I first smoked this cigar about a year ago, I wasn't crazy about it; however, rest has done wonders...lots of hearty smoke and rich, cedar flavors. I would definitely recommend it.

Last night I smoked a La Aurora 1495 Corona while out to dinner and a movie with my wife. Today I smoked a 5 Vegas Torpedo while mowing the lawn.

Which shop? I would like to check it out

Smoked half of a Torano Exodus Gold Torpedo today. Don't know if I will buy anymore of these, thats the third one that has not burned well. Great tasting cigar, actually my favorite of the Torano brand. I'm just sick of fighting with them.

Also smoked a Padron 64 Monarca, another dissapointing smoke. Just like the Torano, this cigar burned so unevenly that any enjoyment was lost in the hassle of constant relights and corrections.

The EO 601 Robusto I smoked this morning was good. 8)

I wonder if you got a bumm box. I absolutely love the golds for what they are = A yummy dark smoke and one of the only Torano's I currently like. I've also only had 2 out of a box burn weird on me.

Had a Gurkha Vintage w/coffee this am (a GREAT morning smoke). RyJ 1865 after lunch (good, but give me the Aniversario) and after dinner a Partagas Black Label w/a Guinness. After 2 Bravos and 3 Clasicos I've got to say the Bravo is much better. Burns better, smokes more evenly, and gives gobs of thick white smoke. I don't know what it is about the Clasico but somebody else posted here about how it didn't burn for jack. Of the 3 I had, 2 were plugged horribly (one I was able to save w/a micro-file & the other got pitched) while the 3rd had a very hard draw and didn't bring much smoke to the pallette. If you try this brand go for the Bravo. It's head & shoulders above the longer Clasico. I can't speak for the rest of the sizes but I won't be trying them.

Last week in Vegas, I indulged in a Cusano 18 Paired Maduro toro, RASS, and a Forbidden X 2004 robusto(?). OMG! They were just absolutely fantastic. But the Forbidden X just blew me away! What an excellent smoke! The 2-hour smoke was like being in heaven!

The C18 PM is my new favorite economical cigar, just beating the C18 DC by a nose.

I gave my dad a bag of smokes as well. But does he smoke them? NO. He said he wanted to save them for when he's back in Hawaii so he can really enjoy the cigars. When I departed, I also gave my dad my Xikar cutter, as he had one of those dopy disposable double guillotine cutters. He really liked my Xikar. Now it matches his Xikar lighter as well.

Montecristo Petit Edmundo...six months of rest have done wonders for this cigar. The flavors are much more apparent, and the smoke is much smoother.

4 out of 6 smoke rings

Smoked a 1495 Corona after lunch- damn I love these cigars. Had a Tatuaje Cojonu 2003 Churchill for a late night smoke. It's another great cigar, not sure if they are any better than the regular Tatuaje line but it's still a wonderful cigar.

5 out of 6 smoke rings on both.

Had a Romeo y Juliet Vintage today. Not very impressive IMHO. I still like the Aniversario best of the line w/the exception of the Habano, which I know nobody here smokes thanks to the boycott

After dinner was a Gurkha Master Select. Just like Chris said with his, it is definitely getting better with some aging. Didn't like it all that much at first but it's turning out to be quite a smoke after a little time in the humidor.

Tonight I had a 1998 ERDM Lonsdale. Had some noticeable plume, flavors of honey, tea, and cedar. Draw was very tight. Just an okay cigar for me.
2/6 smoke rings.

Smoked a CAO Maduro cigarillo w/a cup of coffee. Not much of a maduro at all IMHO, if you look at a pic of it with the full size cigars it is MUCH lighter. I just wanted a small smoke to start the day off and in spite of being short filler it burned ok. I've got to get my hands on some of the Gurkha longfiller small cigars though. I won't be buying another tin of these.

After lunch was a CAO Gold 10yr Anniv. perfecto. A nice size perfecto with a bit of a change in flavor when it got to the fat middle but nothing too complex here. It was good but not great. Matched well with a Starbucks Caffe Vanilla Frappuccino with a shot of hazelnut.

Before dinner was a Rocky Patel Vintage 1990. It was a small perfect, 4" by about a 46-48 ring gauge by my eye. This thing was a damn nice cigar. Blows the AF Hemmingway Short Story away, of which I've had 3 of and also the slightly larger Best Seller. I won't be buying any more Hemmingways but this one I will definitely visit again. Many thanks to dbrad4d who sent this with his PIF. Just had a good homestyle dinner - country fried steak w/sawmill gravy, mashed taters w/the skins, texas toast and sweet corn on the cob. Gonna head to the humi for one of my regulars (probably a Gurkha) and sit on the patio with a Guinness. I'd say this way a pretty good day :D

Torano 1959 Gold Robusto after lunch. Great cigar, no burn issues whatsoever. Saint Luis Rey Reserva Torpedo before a nice grilled dinner. Opus X XXX for an after dinner smoke. I think these need a lot more humi time, I'm going to let my entire Opus inventory rest for six months and see where they go.

Smoke rings:

Exodus - Five of six
Saint Luis Rey - Three of six
Opus - Three of six

Yesterday had a Monte 5 (thanks Rob  ). Very nice little smoke. Good amount of flavour and burned excellcent. Last Month I had a lot of trouble with my habanos' and was starting to get worried about my inventory going bad. I had burn problems and plugs galore; but this little baby reassured me things were ok. I look forward to more of them. Good mornign smoke, but could use more time resting. A little tannic for my taste.

I also had a Ashton Heritage Sol toro. Burned good, but a little light for my taste. I enjoyed it, but there are others out there that are much better.
