What Did You Smoke Today

John Wayne died 28 years ago today. I'm celebrating his life with a Monte A, The Cowboys, and True Grit.

Tonight I had a 1998 ERDM Lonsdale. Had some noticeable plume, flavors of honey, tea, and cedar. Draw was very tight. Just an okay cigar for me.
2/6 smoke rings.

I found it tight too. Hopefully its not the whole box. If the draw was better I think it would change the whole cigar.

Smoked an LGC Hermoso after lunch and a Padilla Miami Torpedo after dinner. Was going to call it quits after that but I had to fire up a celebration cigar after watching Justin Verlander throw a no-hitter. That called for something special: Anejo Shark. Damn that cigar was great, my first one and I think I prefer them to Opus.

So far this week,

Monday was an RP fusion I got in a PIF, very nice smoke, not an everyday cigar but would definately smoke again.

Tuesday was a C10, had to try one after the reviews came out. Vey good with my morning coffee. I think it would be even better after a steak dinner!

Today I am in the middle of a CAO Camaroon. Great smoke for the morning. Will definately revisit!

Yes, it had plenty of flavor. If it wasn't for the draw issues it would easily have been a 4/6 smoke rings in my book.

BTW, I had a Montecristo Petit Edmundo monday. This is a cigar that just keeps getting better and better. I'll give it 4/6 smoke rings. Some age will only improve it more.

Smoked a big bowl out of one of my Nordings today...so dang good I'm gonna have another one this evening while I chat it up with the mooks here.

In the middle of an Oliva Master Blends Series 1, what a wonderful smoke. I could smoke one of these everyday. I will probably let the remainder of the box sit for special occasions. Definately would suggest trying one.

Just finished up with a 5 Vegas A Archetype (I think thats the size) that I received from cmontgomery via a PIF and even though it was 92 degrees outside I enjoyed every moment of it. I have been looking forward to trying a 5 Vegas since they seem like a reasonably priced every day type smoke and I wasn't disappointed. It lit perfectly, the burn was excellent and even the whole way through. I'm not that great on picking out the different tastes but I can honestly say I liked the flavor, whatever it was. My only issue was that after I was half way through it, it seemed to burn fairly hot. It hadn't spent a lot of time in my humidor so it could be related to that but either way it didn't stop me from enjoying it.
For the price of a box I could definitely see having these in my future Fridgidor.

I started out my day off with an 03 Montecristo 2 which was pure bliss. Lots of rich flavors and an even but cool burn. After that, I lit into a 98 Punch Churchill. This cigar was a little too mild for my liking, but it would make a good morning cigar for relaxing with the paper and a cup of tea. My third cigar today was a Partagas Corona, I believe form 01. It has mellowed considerably but the signature spice was still present. Overall, a good smoking day.

T Nugent - the 5 Vegas "A" Series has become my daily smoke. Excellent cigar for the price. I stick to the Artisan (Robusto) size but with temps hitting 110-freakin-degrees here today, I may scale down to the Anomaly so I'm not stuck out in the heat so long. I like the Gold w/a cup of java in the morning and the Classic is another good one, but for not much more money the "A" is the one to go with IMHO.

Just finished up my first Gurkha Legend Aniversario and I'm certainly glad I have 11 more in the Humidor. I really enjoyed the full flavor. I smoked it shortly after dinner and I'm glad I didn't smoke it before dinner. I've had heavier cigars but this one surprised me with how much power it had. It was also my first Gurkha so I didn't really know what to expect. I definitely see myself trying more of the Gurkhas, I'll just be sure and be careful because I know there are stronger ones out there.

Romeo y Julieta Cabinet Seleccion robusto

Short fat dark and really nice. It's leafy, earthy, strong, and a bit spicy. It's a thick New York steak of a cigar. Well worth the relatively low price tag ($8).

Just nubbed a Graycliffe Chateau Gran Cru ... verrry nice.

I'll cut and paste some .com review comments I agree with:

This cigar draws and burns evenly, giving off a nutty aroma. Nut, wood and leather flavors end with a spicy finish. While this stronger blend has a lot of flavor, it is perfectly balanced and never overwhelming to the palate.

Pretty much sums it up. Very rich and flavorful, but ultimately rather mellow. And one of the nicest feeling wrappers I've had my fingers on. So silky you could barely feel it. Unfortunately, given the price, there won't be many more of these in the humi :)

Yesterday I smoked a Padilla Miami Belicoso and a 5 Vegas Limitada '06. Today I am smoking a Padron Executive.

Saint Luis Rey Torpedo- 3 out of 6
Illusione Petit Corona- 5 out of 6
Cuvee Grand Lancero- 4 out of 6

All in all, a good day.

With breakfast, a Gurkha Vintage. After lunch it was a Rocky Patel Connecticut that Travis sent in the bomb. Before dinner a CAO Anniversary Cameroon and now, after dinner, a CAO Brazilia.
Gotta love the weekends when you have time for smoking cigars. I usually only get to smoke an after dinner cigar during the week.
