What Did You Smoke Today

Last night I had a Gran Habano 3 Siglos Robusto that I got out of the last box pass. I had it with a few Sam Adams and I really enjoyed it. Lots of cedar flavor with a lite spice on the finish, just a bit shy of being really full bodied but very smooth with no harsness at all. I will be looking to pick up some of these for the humi so I can review one or two in the future.

I smoked a Macanudo Maduro rothchild last night. It was quite good but I have a couple questions for you guys who know a lot more about cigars than I do so far.

First, a friend of mine told me he preferred a maduro wrapper because it made for a 'sweeter' smoke. I didn't find that to be so. So far, most of the cigars I've tried in my quest to find one to be my 'everyday' smoke have been fairly mild but I think this Macanudo Maduro would be more along the lines of a medium-bodied smoke. The jury's still out as to whether I like the heavier body. My question: Does the Maduro wrapper make it sweeter or fuller-bodied?

Second question: I may be doing it wrong but while I was toasting the foot of the Macanudo, it seemed to 'swell' a bit. Nothing outrageous, but noticeable. I noticed the same thing happening with an Augusto Reyes I smoked recently. Is this a normal occurrence, am I doing something wrong, or can it be something related to, say, RH in my humi (too dry - too wet)? Or some other factor I haven't guessed at?

As always, thanks for any advice you can provide.

That Gran Habano 3 Siglos is a great smoke. I had one a couple weeks ago and will definitely be getting more. As for the Maduro question, I find that it can lead to a little bit of sweetness, but it really depends on the cigar. I haven't had the Macanudo Maduro, so I can't help you on that one.

I just finished an Illusione cg:4. Very complex, medium to full-bodied smoke. This cigar made me concentrate less on what I was reading and more on what I was smoking for sure. I don't think it was because what I was reading was boring (even though it was--introduction to legal reasoning...got to love it). I'll definitely smoke many more of these. Illusione is a fantastic brand.

i didnt like the cg:4 very much. I was told that the construction was very hit or miss. I guess mine missed.

I also didnt find the flavor to be all that great either. i was totally unimpressed. maybe it was a bad one but im not runnin out to try another.

I went to Tucson last night, Desert Diamond Casino, and saw B.B. King. I took along a Rocky Patel 1992 Belicoso.

Well, today I smoked one of those Astrals I thought might have been a mistake on my part. Boy, was I ever surprised! First, because of its size. I don't recall the auction description saying anything about the size of these puppies but they're HOOOGE! They seen to be 7 3/8 x 50. They're bigger than the churchills I'm used to.

And they're mild. You guys who like a fuller-bodied smoke probably wouldn't like these. Now I know what they mean when they describe a cigar as 'creamy-smooth'. Really quite good.

The wrapper developed a split about an inch long but probably because I didn't have them in my humidor very long so they might have been a little dry. No problem - just smoked right on through it and it was fine.

In celebration of three days worth of yard work I had a Padron 64 Maduro Torp with a few Sam Adams. Man that was a ood stick. I need to do a review of the other one I have!

Yesterday I had a CAO Gold that's been in the humi since Father's Day of last year. The extra age did it some good. A bit milder than what I normally smoke but still very nice. Today was a 5 Vegas "A" that's been in the humi since they first came out and man oh man, what a way to end the work day. I still think the 5V "A" series is one of the best bangs for the buck in the cigar world.

I'm going on vacation tomorrow morning to New Hampshire and will be spoiling myself with nice sticks, including some Graycliff Vintage '99, Gurkha Titan, and maybe even a GOF and OpusX. All have at least a year of age on them as well. I've got about 50-60 cigars in a humi that I haven't touched for the last 12-18 months and I'm finally being rewarded for my patience.

PuFf, nice to see you posting here again. Enjoy NH - best booze prices around. I make a trip up there every few months to restock. Even with gas this high- worth the trip every time.

Great poker night. I busted out, but smoked a Litto Gomez Small Batch No. 1, a Padron 1926 No. 2, a Tatuaje Cojonu 2003, and a very nice Cohiba. All the cigars were awesome, particularly the Cohiba.

After another day of working around the house I treated myself to a San Cristobal Monumento and a few Sam Adams. It burned cool and straight for about two hours. I really enjoyed it and am glad I have a few more in the humi.

Monsoon rolled through, cooled the area off. It's down to about 85° or so. I have a Bolivar Royal Corona to have beside the bon fire later.

the family took off and let me all alone until Saturday. So to ease my lonliness, I had a Monte Especial. Good cigar; but just kept going out on me.

Thanks flagman :D New Hampshire was nice, but after living in the big city for a few yrs, I could never go back to the rural life. Great to visit and cool off from the heat though.

Had 2 cigars I never tried these last few days, first off a La Gloria Cuban Series R, then a SLR Series G. Both were great cigars for the money. I like the LGC regular series, but the R is deff a step up.

Currently smoking a DPG Vegas Cubanas. Not as full as a Tatuaje or the Blue Label, but full of flavor. I like these a lot.

Just finished up a CAO Vision. It was my first and at the price probably my last. Not really a bad cigar but I expected more for the money. Wish I had a Vegas Cubanas, now that I read your post. Really enjoyed the last two I had.

Just finished a DPG Cuban Classic. This was a really good stick, I have yet to have a bad cigar made by Pepin.

Smoked a Nub Habano on the course yesterday - smooth, consistent smoke. I am always amazed when I clip it that the draw is always perfect. It seems like it is packed so tight and I expect it to be plugged.
