What Did You Smoke Today

cigar # 2 on the day
sancho panza La Mancha.
almost as good as the Cervantes, just a little warmer. I think this is due to it being shorter and a smaller ring size. ( 6.5 x 48 vs. 5.5x 44) still good smoke.

Last night I tried a Camacho SLR. Short, sweet and tasty. Burn was a little off, but that's probably my fault from storage choices. Overall, a little harsh, but could (with proper treatment) become a favorite.

Smoked two sticks yesterday- an Indian Tabac Super Fuerte Maduro Churchill Tubo (That's a long-@$$ name!), and a CAO Cameroon Robusto.

I smoked the Indian Tabac on my walk down to campus. Now, I just got these in, a box of 12 tubos. I wouldn't have smoked most cigars that quickly after shipment, but since these were tubos, I figured they were in a sealed environment, and resting shouldn't affect them. I'm not sure that my light was precisely even because it was done in the wind, and I walked and smoked in the wind as well. That all being said, this thing had the worst burn I have ever experienced. I thought at one or two points that I could detect a pleasing flavor trying to come through, but I spent so much time struggling to keep the burn on course (5 partial relights!!) that I had no time left to enjoy the smoke.

Has anyone else had this trouble with Indian Tabac? With tubos in general? Should I just write this off to my lighting and smoking conditions? Do tubos actually need to rest for a while in their tubes to even out? Do I need to store tubos in my humi? Should I take these out of their tubes and put them in my humi to even out? Or did I just get a bad apple and should smoke some more before making snap judgments? :duh:

I smoked the CAO Cameroon in the garage in my new recliner while reading (Jared Diamond's Guns, Germs, and Steel is an excellent treatise on the history and evolution of human societies). This was such a contrast to my earlier smoke. The burn stayed as flat as if someone were regulating it with a ruler. The flavor was very nice, though it did get a little hot toward the end (I was probably drawing too often since I was paying attention to the book). All in all, I would buy this one again.

Any advice on the Indian Tabacs would be greatly appreciated! Thanks in advance.

In general I would take the Tubos out of the tube and ensure they get a proper acclimation to the humidor. This way you can ensure you get they are properly humidified. I think your problems had more to do with the wind than anything else. I know that if I get a cigar burning improperly in the least bit, I can have major changes in the taste of the cigar. I would give them another chance under better conditions and with assured proper humidification.

Punch Gran Puro. That thing was DYNOMITE!!!! (aka dynamite) I'm getting a box of those when I get my cigar allowance. Perfect in every respect. Gosh it was soooo good. I'll have another tonight with a nice beverage. I can not say enough good about this cigar.

Tonight I smoked a Gurkha Ancient Warrior (my first) and I was not disappointed. This cigar was bursting with a flavor of dark rich coffee, had a wonderful aroma and a nice firm draw (I like a smoke that puts up a little bit of a fight.) The one I had was a torp. and I nursed it for about 1 hr. 45 min. I want more of these.
Nice smoke!

Those Ancient Warriors are nice. Gurkas usually are on the high end price wise but these are very reasonable. Its a shame they don't get more praise.

Perdomo Reserve Champagne

Burned excellent, first inch was nice, I thought I got a slight taste of fivespice but that might just be my undeveloped palate :)
The rest of it was a let down, bland and tasteless. I know a few people here like these, I actually got this in a PIF, this is something I would try again sometime when I am bit more confident in my palate, I am sure there is something I was missing out on, maybe my choice of drink was wrong?

I seem to have this issue with all mild cigars, it's not going to stop me from enjoying them, not in the least, I see it as a reward when I finally do develop the taste.

mild cigars are hard to taste cos they are.... mild.

you probably did have a hint of five spice. (i love that stuff)

Yesterday on my Tuesday afternoon drive home ( the only time of the week that I am guaranteed to be able to smoke a cigar) I had a CAO cameroon robusto. It took a little while to light, it didn't seam to want to get started but after that it was smooth sailing. The draw was very good and the burn was good as well. Anytime it went off course, it self corrected. I didn't have to do any correction lights at all. It was a nice box press, and a silky dark tan wrapper. The body was meduim, you knew it was there, but it wasn't too in your face. The flavour was subtle. Toasty and creamy with roasted nut hints here and there, mostly walnuts, and very smooth. I usually like more in the flavour department, It was almost too subtle much like the CAO cx2 I had last week on my tuesday drive home. Overall it was a good smoke and it stayed smooth down to the nub. It reassured me of my love for the robusto size and my faith that CAO puts out a great product, but also reminded me to buy more full flavour cigars.

free cuba churchill.

mild to medium. Great cedar taste. hints of white pepper every now and then. wonderful little cigar. i may have to buy a bundle.

I'm currently approaching the end of a Punch Pita Maduro, and I have enjoyed every speck of it. This is a good smoke, no question about it.

CAO Brazilia Gol. I love these things. This one had some draw issues though which really surprised me with it being a CAO. Wasn't too bad of a problem in the first half and was still quite good with hints of leather at first and I think macaroon/almond nuts. However, it still made me draw harder and overheat it. Because of this I had to pitch it about halfway through when it started to get bitter. Oh well, it is handmade after all.

BTW, Brazilia bitterness isn't actually bitter at all nor does it have a bite IMO--but it is a very funky taste I just can't describe.

Yesterday: 5 Vegas A double corona and a Padron 6000. The 6000 did not burn well at all and was not very good tasting. I've got a few more I'll let sit for a while before I try them again.

Got a box of Punch Gran Puros on the way!

Camacho Diploma

Last night I had my first Camacho Diploma, as it seems to be a favorite with people here. It was awesome, burned perfectly down to the nub. At first the flavor was very much cocoa, about 1/2 way down it turned ti white pepper and if you belive it a bit of mint. It was an enjoyable hour.

This paired with a few dirty Beefeater martinis was great.

Last night I enjoyed a Cusano 18 Double Conn Toro. Quite a good cigar, even if the cutter I used sucked and caused the wrapper to come loose. Time to invest in a Xikar, methinks.

Baccarat the game I believe it was 46-48 x 7
kind of flat. Just black pepper. It wasnt bad. It wasnt great. It was ok. I think it needed more time in the humi... could have been more smooth.
needless to say my search for a mild-medium daily smoke isnt going as well as i had hoped

I didn't like Baccarat The Game Robusto either.

If you like mild-medium smokes, try the Cusano 18 Double Connecticut a try. It's one of my favorites.

If you're on a really tight budget, try c.com's Cuban label. Another fantastic stick!

Yet another vote for the Cuban label, had one after lunch(torp).
I know I've got tons more cigars to try, but methinks the cuban and the cameroon is my best bet for everyday smokes.
I just love cigars that have flavors other than cigar flavor.
